A Stars Guiding Light
Star laid wake for a long time after Marco left. Truthfully, she felt awful about the whole situation she was mad, no furious at everyone and everything. Unfortunately, that had the side effect of blowing up on her best friend. Let it be known that Star Butterfly was an unbelievably bad person to handle emotional situations, one need only look at her song day for proof of that and boy was that a disaster. In fact, you could include almost any time she was the least bit emotional, as previously stated she was terrible at emotions. What could she say, she was more like her father than her mother?
She rolled over in her bed and, after a brief fight, threw the blanket off her in a frustrated fit. She couldn't sleep, she couldn't eat, she couldn't even think straight. The only thing going through her mind now was how absolutely messed up her situation was. To think that every moment she shared with Marco; every tender moment, every sad one, every single memory she had of him that she loved was all because of a curse.
It tore her up inside, Star could only keep playing scenarios in her head repeatedly. Each one worst than the last, 'what if I had actually confessed to Marco before he went out with Jackie and then we found out about this. How far would we have gone before knowing everything was fake.'
It ate her up and tore at her insides, she loved Marco, even before that love turned into more 'much MUCH more' she loved him as her friend first and foremost. 'but what if even that was fake, how do I know what's real anymore, and what about Tom? I started dating him even with the curse happening, is that real? Does that mean I really did love Tom the whole time and the curse prevented that?'
Deciding not to lay in her bed in agony over her mental and emotional crisis, she leaped out of her bed yanking her golden locks into a messy ponytail and ran out of the room. Star's run through the castle (if one could call haphazardly throwing spells as they stomped about) seemed to clear her mind and she concluded that she needed someone to talk to.
As Marco said bottling one's emotions was a bad habit since they always came back to bite you in the ass later. Getting slightly somber at the thought of the whole Marco situation, Star pushed it into the back of her mind and made off for the person that she could confide in.
Star quickly arrived at the door of Mewni's resident royal manservant, slowly opening the door making a loud creaking sound as she did so. She winced at the sound and froze peering inside hoping she had not awakened anyone. A quick glance showed that no one was in the room, and so with confidence Star strolled in and without a care in the world started to toss the room apart.
"come on I know its around here somewhere, knowing Manfred he probably kept them inside some fancy pants box." She mumbled under her breath. She soon struck a pose in thought sticking her tongue out in the process and with a sudden widening of eyes her idea struck.
"of course, use magic duh!" she said with a smack to the forehead before quickly facing her palms forward and called out a spell, "SUPER SECRET FINDING SPELL!". Magic the color of the rainbow spewed from her hand's like a geyser and washed the room, causing everything to sparkle for a few seconds before settling down and seeming to do nothing.
Star grew a frown on her face and put her hands on her hips, "man I really thought that would work..." then suddenly an object collided with her face. "spoke to soon" then another object hit her… and another… and another. Until finally she had objects whizzing around the room seemingly with a life all their own. Though with magic one could never be too sure this wasn't the case.
Star ducked her head as a giant bowl came flying towards her head in a flurry of movement. 'maybe it worked a little TOO well', taking a deep breath she quickly stood up and commanded her magic to do what she really wanted it to do. That being bringing her Manfred's cleverly concealed pair of dimensional scissors, not every secret he had in his room 'though there seems to be an awful amount of those as well, note to self-better check this out later'. Luckily, her magic obeyed her command correctly this time and a pair of ornate scissors that 'screamed' Aristocracy laned in her hands.
With a smile and a half hazard glance at the mess she made Star skipped out of Manfred's room and into the hall. 'He can clean it later; besides, I can just tell him it was me, so he doesn't panic' she thought as she cut open a portal straight to the demon realm. "time to go see tom, hope he's not too bummed out about me ditching him all of a sudden".
Stepping through the portal and ending up in front of Lucitor castle gave Star and unexpected wave of anxiety before she quickly calmed her nerves and stroll through the front gate, not even bothering to announce herself or knock. She had been here countless times before and would most likely be here countless times more, so Star doing any of those things was more of a pain in the ass formality and we all know how Star Butterfly feels about formalities.
Sooner than she expected Star ended up in front of Tom's room, surprisingly with no one bothering to stop her, which was new, deciding not to knock like before Star barged into the room words dying in her mouth as soon as she opened it. Star's face grew red and she grew instantly uncomfortable at the scene laid out before her. 'I know I have bad timing, but this is a bit too far' for there on his bed laid the prince of the demon kingdom naked, one hand on his erect penis and the other gripping his sheets as he stroked with abandon all the while quietly moaning Star's name.
If one were to look at Star right now, one could say she resembled a ripe tomato, or a red bell pepper for how much blood had rushed to her face. Quickly blurting out and averting her eyes to get tom's attention "Tom! Its Star we need to talk, can you PLEASE put some clothes on!".
This caused Tom's soul to figuratively and literally jump out of his body as one of his souls fled its flesh prison and flew out the door past an embarrassed Star. "Star!? What are you doing here? Why didn't you knock?!" screamed tom as he rushed to clothe himself.
Soon the two sat apart from each other on the bed, both equally embarrassed as they refused to look at each other. Star's Johansson blood however came in handy as she spoke up first, "sorry if I interrupted something, seems like you were doing something um… important" as she said the last part her face grew even redder impossible as it might seem.
Tom for his part had the decency to look sheepish as he rubbed the back of his head and gave an awkward laugh, "I really wish you hadn't seen that you probably think I'm a weird person now huh" this caused him to look down slightly downtrodden at the thought.
"no no there's nothing weird about it, I know boys have … needs they have to take care of from time to time." Star's confidence wavered at that part and she fidgeted in spot. Gathering her courage, she scooted next to him and grabbed his and as she looked him in the eyes, well two of the three eyes, causing him to look at her as well and be reassured. Seeing him look at her Star smiled, "besides I'm sure plenty of boyfriends do those things in front of their girlfriends, or to them at least. Though I know Marco never has…" at those words she paused.
This reminded her of why she came to speak to Tom in the first place, squeezing his hand she took a deep breath and gave him a hard stare. "tom we need to talk, about everything. About us, about this curse, about what this means, and most of all about what I'm going to do from now on; because I'm lost right now, and I need your help." She spoke confidently, unknowingly mimicking the exact words Marco had spoken to her prior.
Tom after hearing her words grew serious as he sat up straighter and gave her a small nod, "of course Star you know I'm here for you if you need me. Anytime okay?" the last part tom said with a smile as he squeezed her hand.
This caused Star to smile as she was glad, she could rely on him to be there for her, though she did feel as if a piece of her was breaking at the fact that she wanted Tom to be here with her than Marco. As usual though she ignored it and focused in on her current predicament, "good now I have some questions, what exactly does the Blood Moon Curse do? I know you explained it before but it seemed like you just glossed over it so we could hurry to sever our souls."
Tom gave another small awkward laugh as he spoke again "yea sorry about that I was eager to get it over with, having your best friend kiss your girlfriend and be in love with her kinda sucks you know." At this Star formed a grimace, yet nonetheless gestured for him to continue. "well, the short version it makes you to love each other for eternity even past death" seeing Star's solemn face he quickly continued, "the long version is that before it was a curse it was a blessing."
At this Star's visage grew confused as she tried to comprehend what she was just told "how was this curse a blessing originally? What sane person would want this?" This caused tom to sport a small grimace as he was that non- sane person.
"well Starship it was originally a blessing because that's how people saw it as originally. Think about it, if two people loved each other so much they would never want to be apart, and people or situations were threatening that then this was the perfect way to stay together, even through death." Said Tom promisingly.
"in fact, the curse, which was a blessing, was actually given as a gift to a pair of mortals by a moon goddess thousands of years ago", tom closed his eyes and folded his arms as he continued to speak, Star paying close attention as the story was now getting interesting. "you see Starship there was once a moon goddess who lamented over her loss, you see back when the gods still roamed the mortal plane regularly, she had a mortal lover. She adored him and held him dear and close to her heart, even vowing to stay in the mortal plane as until he died and to never take another lover even after his death mortal or otherwise."
Star absent mindedly conjured herself a bucket of popcorn as she sat enraptured by Tom's tale, eyes glistening and sparkling. Smirking at how he had captured her with his story Tom continued.
"sadly, fate had other plans, a fellow god jealous of how much she cared the mortal she loved and not him tricked her into killer her lover." At this tom had to stop as Star gasped hard and dropped an enormous amount of popcorn from her bucket (which seemed to be endless by the way).
Star had tears in her eyes as she sniffled, "why would he do that? Why would anyone do that? That's so cruel to not only have her lover murdered but to have it done by her own hand? That god is a monster!" Star rubbed her eyes after her last line and sniffed loudly.
'wow I didn't think she would get this involved with a simple story' though tom. "well gods are creatures of whim and fantasy and they do what they want without seeming consequence from us mortals so that's just how it goes." He said with a shrug. "back to the story though, the goddess stricken with grief called upon all her power she had and even offered deals to many evil beings if they promised to bring back her love. Sadly, he was lost forever, for no one can bring back the dead not even a god."
"And so, she went on for a thousand years watching over many couples in agony until she chanced upon a couple in need of diving intervention." At this Tom paused for dramatic effect, seeing the look of awe on Star's face.
"you see this couple were also dealt a bad hand by fate, they loved each other very much and promised each other unknowingly the exact same promise that the goddess and her lover had. So, gathering all her power she tried to change the fate of the couple, refusing to allow what happened to her to happen to others." Suddenly Tom grew quiet, as if this next part pained him.
"but her power was not enough, the fates told the goddess that she could not change their fates with her power alone. It would require a sacrifice, and one she didn't have to give." Quickly glancing over Tom saw Star curled into his blanket like a burrito, peering out at him.
Deciding to wrap up the story tom continued, "steeling herself the goddess once again gathered all her power, even as the fates laughed at her calling her foolish. Undaunted and unwavering she drew every ounce of her power into her palms and fashioned a dagger which she used to plunge into her heart." Tom had to pause again at Star's loud gasp of NO!
Nodding his head solemnly tom continued, "yes, she killed herself and as she lay there dying, she used her very essence and soul to fill the moon with her power turning it a crimson red and blessed the couple. She would not be able to change their fate, but she could guarantee they wouldn't go through it without each other."
"she blessed them to never be too far from each other, in times of need to draw strength from the other to unlock their true potential so that they might live. She blessed them to always have affection and love for each other for all eternity, and not even death could part them. Lastly, she blessed the couple to always be the perfect partner for each other, and to no matter what be able to find the other through their connected souls no matter the distance."
Tom quieted down after this until Star spoke up, mumbling from her cocoon of warmth. "what happened next?"
Tom sighed, "well the couple were blessed, and the fates were shocked to see the moon goddess sacrifice herself for the sake of two mortals. They soon came to the conclusion to respecting her strength of will and worked their power to apply this blessing to anyone the moon goddess would have deemed worthy of it. Right after they tried to retrieve her body only for the dagger to slip from her hand into the cosmos and her body to fade into Stardust."
