There was no big flash or anything when I walked through the portal, just one second I'm in the market district the next I'm outside of some ruined temple. I take a minute to look at my surroundings, from what I can see I'm in some kind of forest – from the trees it could be a jungle perhaps? – and right in front of my was a very large temple made of some sort of dark grey stone. Time has taken it's toll on the behemoth of a temple, the stone is cracked and dull from years of…whatever. There's also large and long vines growing down the sides of it, coming in and out of the stone itself. There was a large staircase that led to the middle of the temple that had a large entrance in it. From what little I could see of the inside there appeared to be the top of a staircase descending downwards.

Ping!

Given that this is your first dungeon the system has decided that it shall explain some of the rules that you must follow, along with some changes to pre existing combat conditions.

First things first, you must defeat a certain number of mobs before the boss is summoned. Defeating said boss will give you access to a return stone that will send you back to the otherworld entrance.

Second, there is no difference of time between this dungeon and the overworld. This, however, is not the rule for all dungeons. Different dungeons have different conditions, this one just happens to run on the same flow of time as Skyrim

Third, unlike combat scenarios in the overworld you can level up during battles in dungeons while facing mobs. This will not, however, restore your health and magic.

Finally, every dungeon acts as a sort of side quest. Because this is your first ever dungeon your rewards for this will be greater than other dungeon given quests. Speaking of which..

Thanks for the information system.

Being able to level up during battle could be a game changer. Those free stat points could mean the difference between life or death. But before any of that I need to assess the information. Given the rewards I am most likely facing snake mobs, though the dungeon could just be throwing me a curve ball and only having the boss be one, so I should go in prepared but expecting the worst. I take a moment to mentally pump myself up while checking on my equipment. My leather boots and armor are secured on my person, still getting used to Skyrim's body armor being one piece instead of 2, my ebony dagger I got from the Jarl is in it's sheath strapped to my side, and my leather helmet is fastened on my head. Time to head inside.

The first thing I noticed when I first stepped inside was that I actually couldn't see anything. The entirety of the interior of the temple was shrouded in darkness. A quick application of a small flames spell helped out with that immediately, but that left got rid of any stealth I hoped to have.

The bottom of the stairs held two pathways for me to go, rounding the corner to the left I was immediately greeted to the sight of what I assumed was a large room. I couldn't see all of it, only about 10-20 feet in front of me, but what I did notice was a couple of large of lamia's that stopped moving to look at me. Each was 5'9, not counting tail length, their bodies covered in forest green scales, leaving only their belly and part of their breasts uncovered that showed their humanlike skin. They wore no armor other than a helmet to protect their heads, each were equipped with that appeared to be an iron spear.

A quick application of Observe told me that they were all level 12, each with 500 Hp

I didn't give them any notice as I immediately armed myself with my dagger and ran at top speed to the closest lamia. It didn't have any time to react before I rammed my dragger through it's throat, the ebony cutting through it's scales without resistance.

The rest of the lamia, around 3 in total, hissed furiously at me for killing their ally. They equipped their spears and aimed them at me. I'm at a disadvantage here, they have weaponry that forces me to fight cautiously. I could use Flames but I don't want to expend more magic than I can expend as I need as much as possible to keep up my light source. Without that these lamia will be able to easily pick me off in the dark.

I glanced down to the lamia corpse below me briefly, contemplating I decided to sheath my knife and instead grab the spear that lay on the ground. I may have no experience with spears but it shouldn't be too hard to kill the lamia with my little to no experience. All I gotta do is keep my distance and thrust whenever I see a weakpoint. Should be simple enough.

I grasp the spear and held it close to my self, it was more difficult than I imagined, though I was only using one hand to hold it, the other preoccupied with my small flames spell. The lamia and I just stood in the room, wearily waiting for the other side to attack. A few tense moments passed before one of the lamia got impatient, or just cracked under the pressure, and charged me. She sped across the floor and was on me immediately, I narrowly avoided her thrust and countered by trying to stab her in the part of her body not covered in scales. She proved to be more nimble than I imagined because she effortlessly twisted her body out of harm's way.

I narrowed my eyes, casting a cursory glace at her allies behind her. So far they have yet to move, their motive is unknown to me. My best guess is that they're trying to gauge my strength by sacrificing their own. I looked back at my opponent only to back away quickly as she tried to bite me in my arm in my unfocused state. A few drops of what I presumed to be venom dripped onto the floor from her teeth as she looked back towards me, spinning her spear around her all the while.

This kept going on for a bit; her attacking and me narrowly avoiding the strikes, and taking my chance to attack only for her to easily evade me. I was getting very annoyed at this point, so I aimed my left hand forward and shot my flames spell at the lamia, bathing her in a small shower of fire. I stopped after a good 5 seconds. When the fire ceased the lamia itself was fine, somehow, the same couldn't be said for her spear however. The shaft of the spear had caught fire right in the center, weakening the strength of the wood to the point where it would probably break in one or two good blows, and it definitely wouldn't survive another thrust attack. The Lamia must of known this too, because instead of our usual routine she panicked and threw the spear at me. I couldn't quite dodge it in time, causing it to slice the side of my cheek. Not deep enough to warrant concern but enough to cut deeply into my skin.

-75 Hp! [925/1000]

Not wasting a breath I quickly ran towards the lamia and thrust my spear forward towards her unprotected belly. My blow struck true, the spear head burying itself into the stomach of the Lamia. I violently ripped my spear out, creating quite a large hole in her. I decided to put her out of her misery and stabbed her downed body in the throat, killing her instantly.

Wait a second, that's double the amount of experience I got from my first lamia kill. Why is that system?

You are rewarded exp based on your effort in the battle. If you get an instant kill you're awarded half the experience you would normally receive due to a lack of any true effort on your end. However, battles like this will reward you with the normal amount. And battles that tire you to the point of absolute exhaustion will award you double the amount of experience.

Does that mean every single time I've gone for fatal kills in Skyrim I've been hindering myself precisely because I try to be more cautious and go for killing moves right off the bat?

No, in real world battles this rule does not apply. This rule is only applicable to mobs fought in dungeons.

Okay then?

I let go of my spear and spun around quickly to face the other two lamia, hands stretched outwards with flames sprouting from each. The flames quickly ate at the wooden handles of their spears, what surprised me somewhat was instead of throwing them like I expected they just snapped the handle in half, each now only having a spear of half length. Not that it's an issue, I still have the advantage.

The Lamia charged me, short spears in hand pointed at me, body bent forward as they zig zagged in between each other in a snake like fashion. I back peddled slightly and swung my spear in an arch.

One of the Lamia managed to avoid the strike but the other was struck right in the side of the head, dazing them and causing them to stop their movement. I raced forward, only to jump to the right quickly as the first lamia attempted to stab me and attempting to allow her ally to recuperate. Her efforts were in vain, as I kept my pace and thrust my spear through her chest, piercing her heart and killing her instantly. I ripped my spear out of the corpse and braced myself as the last Lamia rounded on me. Her eyes screamed with animalistic fury as she charged at me, hissing with loathing all the while. I tensed, readying my spear only for her to completely blitz past me. I turned quickly and cried out in pain as her spear dug itself into my arm.

You have been stabbed! -150 HP [775/1000]

I grit my teeth and bore through the pain and grabbed her arm and held it in place with all the force I could muster. I let go of my spear and pulled forth my ebony knife. The Lamia's eyes widened in recognition of the weapon that killed her first ally and started to frantically try and pull herself away from me, her fear overriding rational thought. It was for naught, as I stabbed the knife into her throat, and into her chest for good measure. Soon enough I was left alone in the first room of the ruin, four dead Lamia's surrounding me.

Basic mobs killed (6/50), (6/100)

Oh come on how was that not worth 2000 exp? I fought both of them for a bit, though I did kill that last one without too much effort…questions for later.

I examined the now threat empty room. In the corner I found a chest that contained 2 bottles of restore magic and drank them both immediately, watching my magic bar fill back to almost full, it also had 50 gold. But more importantly it had an unlit torch. I quickly set it aflame and held it in my left hand. I walked back to the lamia's and stashed their short spears in my inventory, you never know when I'll need em.

I spent the next hour clearing out the next 3 floors of the Lamia's. They never really changed battle tactics and I just implemented the strategies I used for the first 6 to kill these ones. The first 10 of them gave me a challenge, but after that it became pretty easy to kill them after such repetitive behavior. So far each floor had around 20 Lamia's, and I made sure to kill all of them. By the time I reached the 4th floor I had completed the first main objective with a nice 60 kills.

I stopped at the entrance to the fourth floor, my torch had finally burned out. I discarded it and lit my hand aflame again with flames, but before that I should check my gains so far.

Ah, much better. I'd rather have added more SP into END but I need more magic at the moment.

I descended the dark stairs and entered the fourth floor. The most immediate difference was that the floor had lighting! Not much, barely any to see more than 5 feet in front of me but it was better than nothing. The lighting came from these weird bugs hanging off of the wall, they were fucking huge! Each as big as my hand, their thorax even bigger than that which shined with light. They kinda looked like beetles crossed with a firefly, thoughts for later.

I deactivated Flames from my hand and grabbed one of the spears from my inventory. I snapped off the tip and threw it away. I grabbed as many light bugs as I could find and stuck them to my spear shaft. Soon enough I had a makeshift light stick.

The first room I had entered was small, only housing 2 Lamia's, they were both standing around a table seemingly to be talking to each other. The Lamia's on this floor were different than the first 3 floors. Their height was the same and general build was the same, but that was where the similarities ended. These new Lamia's were sea green in color, almost blue, and their scales appeared to cover everywhere except their chest area, right where their lungs would be. Instead of being equipped with spears these Lamia were equipped with two Scimitar's instead. They didn't wear armor however, which made me curious if they were either that confident in the strength of their scales or if wearing armor would inhibit their movements. Their levels also increased from 12 to 17.

One of the Lamia noticed me immediately and rushed at me with speeds that caught me off guard. Her friend, startled, turned towards us and quickly followed her friend's lead and charged me.

My Dex combined with my Twinkle Toes perk made it possible to dodge their strikes, I danced and jumped around their calculated swings and hooks. I was genuinely caught off guard, however, when one of the lamia abandoned her scimitar's and pulled me into a full nelson and attempted to bite my neck, with her friend charging at me with intent to gut me with her sharp weapons. I panicked, leaning my head forwards and smashing the back of my head into her nose and mouth with as much force as I could muster. Her cries of pain told me it worked, I bent my legs and leaned forwards, jumping over her and twisting my body in an admittingly painful manner that had pushed her body in front of mine. The Lamia's friend was not able to change her course quick enough and ended up gutting her own friend. The horrified look on their almost made me feel bad for her, but in the end I quickly equipped a short spear and stabbed her in the face. She slithered back, howling in pain, as I summoned another short spear and thrust it into her exposed chest. Putting an end to her pain and finally killing her.

Huh, good to know. Now let's kill those Lamias~

I stabbed the last of the Lamia Hunters on the 5th floor, pinning her to the floor and I watched her writhe in agony before she went still, marking off my 100th kill.

I stood up and walked to the descending stairs that led to what I assume is the boss room, as I walked down the stairs torches lit up by themselves with an eerie blue flame. I tossed my 4th makeshift light stick over my shoulder and kept walking until I came upon a massive set of doors, easily 10 feet tall. This was definitely the boss room. I should check my latest gains and distribute my points before heading in.

I gave myself a once over. Leather armor was secured on, my ebony dagger was strapped to my right, I had some short iron spears stacked in a small holder on my left hip, and one of those scimitar's was strapped to my back.

I steeled myself and pushed open the doors and walked into a room blanketed in darkness. As I walked forwards the doors closed behind me with a reverberating boom, torches donned on the walls of the extremely large room lit up, illuminating the room in an ethereal blue glow and showed a massive room with large columns scattered throughout and revealing a boss that had me quaking in my leather boots.

A humungous snake, easily 100 feet long and as thick as a school bus. Scales longer than my body decorated the behemoth from head to…tail? Each with jagged edges that I swear looked like they could cut off a finger with no issue. It was currently curled up, but it's head snapped towards the door. It's poison green eyes contracting upon seeing me, it's slitted pupils narrowing in anger as it uncurled itself in preparation for battle. It opened it's mouth, revealing it's fangs that were as long as a sword, probably as sharp as one too, that oozed black venom that burned the floor.
