"Woah, Bakugo your quirk is so awesome!"
"Yeah I bet no villain will be able to stand up to you!"
"Man, I wish I had a quirk as cool as that"
The blond on the receiving end of his classmates' praise smirked "You damn bet it's great! With this quirk I'll raise past all you extras and go all the way to surpassing All Might!"
"Heey"
"No fair, Bakugo."
"Humph, what are you babies going to cry to the teacher now" Bakugo said mockingly "Well go ahead, that's all weaklings like you can do! Sit and cry 'til someone strong can come and solve your shit!" he let out some firecrackers as an obvious threat of what would happen if they did
No one dared say something in response to that threat, expect.. "Your quirk may be good Kacchan, but you still have a long way to beat All Might"
Everyone turned to the owner of the voice, a freckled boy with green messy hair and emerald eyes set in a frown
"WHAT WAS THAT YOU DAMN DEKU!? YOU THINK A USELESS FUCK LIKE YOU HAS ANY ROOM TO TALK SHIT TO ME?" Kacchan shouted with mad eyes of furry
The greenette's frown turned into a visage of slight fear "N-N-No! I-I'm just saying, Kacchan t-that All Might is the number 1 Hero f-for a reason! I-I mean, he saved a hundred people in a minute, while smiling all the time!"
Bakugo scowled "Humph, you think I don't know that you nerd?! All Might is number 1 because he never loses, because he's the strongest and that's why I'm meant to be up there with him, looking down on little fucks like you. My quirk is going to make me the best hero ever while background characters like the extras with weak ass quirks stay on the sidelines, waiting for the real heroes to come save their useless asses"
"All Might doesn't look down on people! And All Might doesn't save people because he thinks they're useless but because he cares about everyone! That's what a real hero does and as long as you keep acting like a jerk, Kacchan you'll never be better than All Might!" said Izuku, ever resolute about his idea of heroism especially of All Might. Him and Kacchan, even in the hero idolized world they lived in, were always the biggest hero fanboys of their young age and their conflicting ideals of what being a hero really means made them but heads regularly
"Grr" Kacchan growled lowly "What do you even know about this Deku, huh?! You haven't even got your quirk and even if you did I bet I'd be a weak ass quirk just like you!"
Izuku's frown deepened "My quirk will appear and it will not be weak, Kacchan you'll see!"
Kacchan just smiled smugly "Well 'till then I say you keep your shitty mouth shut unless you want me t-ARGH!"
Kacchan's words got cut short as Izuku's frowning eyes light up red before shooting out two small red beams that hit the blond right under the the eyes, making him fall on his back with two slightly smoking bruises on his cheeks
Everyone was surprised by this development
"Woah, was that Midorya's quirk?"
"Laser eyes? Aww man, why does everyone else get all the cool quirks?"
Kacchan got up groaning and rubbing his burned cheeks "Deku, you damn BASTARD!"
"I'm sorry! I didn't mean to do that! I just got angry and then all of a sudden my eyes just..." Izuku trailed off, unsure of how to soothe the situation his new quirk brought him in
Kacchan glared at the greenette "Well, if you and your shitty quirk wanna fight then that's what your gonna-"
"AHHHHHH, WHY IS EVERYONE SKELETONS!?" shrieked Izuku in fear
Every other kid tilted their head, or heads in the case of a two headed boy. What?
Izuku's eyes were shining again, only this time it wasn't a one-second red flash but a constant green light as Izuku gazed around frantically
From Izuku's point of view the world around took on a green hue and every people around him became a bunch of bones with outlines of their regular forms. He was understandably startled but before he could stop to process this he found himself sailing through the air
Everyone else watched as Izuku panicked, his knees shaking. Bakugo was about to say something (or more like scream something) when suddenly Deku was launched in the air
Everyone started at that, quickly looking up to see the freckled boy about 30 ft in the air but the most surprising thing was the fact that Midorya's claves seemed to have turned into skin-colored springs as he flaided them around in panic
Izuku was almost passed out of fear as he felt himself fall, hoping this was a nightmare and he was going to fall back into his real body and wake up
Well something did happen, instead of him hitting the ground directly he felt as if he jumped into his bed and rebound back up, which kind of supported his wishful thinking of his Nightmare-Fall theory, but what was different was that he didn't wake up in his bed but instead found himself sailing through the air, only this time in some kind of turquoise sphere
... Okay, he was really starting to think this was some dream/nightmare he was having as the ball hit the ground, rebounded and launched itself and Midorya into the sky again with the boy never once hitting the sphere as it seemed to keep him right in it's center at every moment
The kids looked in awe (expect Bakugo) as Midorya bounced around in this weird ball thingy and scrambled away as the ball hit the place they were in and kept on bouncing
"Woah... Hey stop!... Hey... I'm... not feeling... so good..." Izuku said as kept on bouncing of the ground, the playground rides and the even the kindergarten roof giving him a new shade of green via his face as he spinned in the air with the ball
Destiny seemed to have decided he had enough and as the sphere hit a bush near the kindergarten wall it popped like a soap balloon, leaving Izuku to gently fall on the bush in a comical position of him buried in the bush with his legs stuck in the air twitching
After the greenette got his bearings he got up and out of the bush where he was promptly swarmed by his classmates
"MIDORYA THAT WAS SO AWESOME!"
"Huh!?" Izuku flinched, startled by the sudden shout and the close proximity of his classmates
"You were so cool out there!"
"Yeah, you were just jumping around in that ball so fast and high, you were the coolest!"
"And that lazer thing you hit Bakugo with was so cool and funny too"
Bakugo stayed behind stewing and gritting his teeth as the fucking nerd got the attention meant for him, with the extras starting to get the gall to make fun of him instead of the useless bastard
Izuku meanwhile could do nothing but blush and scratch the back of his neck as his classmates complimented him on his new quirk. He was happy to finally get it but was just so confused about what it actually did
The door to the kindergarten opened and out came a male and female caretaker rushing towards the group of children
"Kids, what happened!? We heard something crash against the rooftop!" said the male caretaker in worry
"Is everyone alright?" asked the female caretaker with just as much worry as her co-worker
"It was Midorya's qurik. He had this hamster ball thing and bounced around in it and hit the roof!" responded one of the kids
"Yeah, and before that he jumped in the air with his spring legs" another one said
"And he shot lazers"
"And said we were all skeletons"
The caretakers blinked their wide eyes of bewilderment, looking at the greenette in question who shifted nervously under their gaze
"I-I don't know what happened. One second nothing's going on and then the next o-" Midorya tensed as the same feelings from the four times his quirk activated came again and suddenly everyone was looking at a bucktoothed Izuku covered in grey fur with a fluffy squirrel tail poking outside of his pants
Everyone stared at the transformed boy before-
"EEEEEEEEEEEEEH, MIDORYA IS SO CUTE!" squealed the girls
"Heh heh, nice teeth you got there Alvin" joked one of the boys
The two caretakers looked at each other unsure of what to make of this and decided to get everyone inside before seeing what is to do
"Alright class, recess is almost over so let's go inside and maybe we'll see what is up with Midorya's quirk!" called out the woman as she lead the kids inside with Izuku feeling embarrassed as girls flocked him to pet his tail and Bakugo glaring at the squirrel boy as if he wanted to blow a hole in him, which he most likely did
The teachers decided, after some other happenings that the best thing to do was to call the boy's mother, morhers always knew best after all
A little while later the door opened swiftly and in charged a green haired woman, much like Izuku's, with a slim build and an expression of worry as she rushed through the coridors before halting as she saw the two caretakers from Izuku's class and walked towards them
"Good day Ms. Midorya, we're sorry to call you over so suddenly" said the man caretaker bowing slightly
"It's fine, but please tell me what happened to Izuku" the worried mother asked
The woman caretaker raised her hands in a placating manner "We assure you that Izuku is perfectly fine, it's just... well his quirk just came in"
"Oh, really?" Inko blinked in surprise before a worried frown came back "But why is that a bad thing, is it a detrimental qurk?"
The man looked unsure how to respond "Not... as of right now..." Inko lifted her eyebrow at that "well it's just..." he sighed and motioned for her to follow them
When they entered the classroom Inko blinked in surprise
The children were spread across the room (bar Bakugo, skulking in a corner) and floating above them, seemingly devoid of gravity was Izuku with an uncomfortable expression
A boy was reaching out for Izuku " Come on Midorya, give me your hand or something, I almost caught you"
Izuku didn't say or do anything, not wanting to be thrown around the room like a floating ball anymore
Which he wouldn't have to as just as he finished that though he felt gravity come back again and make him fall to the ground with little pained grunt
"IZUKU" shouted Inko in worry, rushing to her boy's side "Baby, are you alright?!"
Izuku put on a brave face to ease his mom's worry, even if he had some tears at the corner of his eyes "I-I'm fine Mom, don't worry. I-It didn't even hurt" he said with a smile as his mother helped him up, but then as he was gently rubbing his face, his other hand that was waving around to help him keep his balance suddenly shot from the fingertips five silk-like strings that latched onto the floor, a table, some toys and even another kid's leg
"Hey" exclaimed said kid trying to get the string off
"Oh no..." said Izuku also trying to get the strings of his fingers
As this was going on Inko kept blinking at her son's apparent quirk
It was quickly decided that the best course of action would be to take Izuku to a qurik doctor to determine exactly what his quirk is before something more dangerous happened, which they did after clearing it with the kindergarten's caretakers
The doctor was frowning hard at the notes on his clipboard as if they were the most challenging puzzle in the world, which didn't ease Inko's nerves
"Doctor, is something wrong with Izuku?" asked Inko as Izuku leaned in attentively
The doctor took a moment to answer "Well Ms Midorya 'wrong' might not be the best word to describe it, odd would be a much better one. We took the primary test to determine his quirk gene and found something... peculiar" he paused for a moment "For perhaps the first time in quirk history we found that your son's quirk gene is actually sectioned"
"Sectioned?" ask Inko, not sure if she should be worried or not but that sounded pretty bad
The doctor noded "At first, we thought his quirk gene was somehow damaged but then we discovered something else about it. The pieces are not only proportional to each other but also have what appears to be an attraction field to them. When stimulated to activate the parts came together to form a regular looking quirk gene and then break apart again as the quirk deactivated, and then the final shock blow came. When Izuku activated his quirk again it was a different one and not just from the outside results, the test can also attest to that. The new formed gene was different from the first. We observed the parts more closely and deducted that the parts are slowly shifting their position. After a few hours of observing them to determine their pattern we discovered that... they don't have one"
When the doctor didn't continue Inko decided to ask the question on both her's and Izuku's mind "So, what does that mean doctor?"
The doctor looked at them in what appeared to be a mix of awe and shock "To put it in simply, little Izuku's quirk allows him to do, at least in theory, anything"
Both green sets of eyes widened at that
"Like I said this situation is unprecedented. With his quirk's gene parts shifting so haphazardly the results can end up being anything a quirk would allow a human to do, and with how crazy quirks are getting these days..." he trailed off, letting his patient and his mother fill the gaps
Both were too stunned to speak, but Izuku's awe got quickly accompanied by an unrivaled excitement
His qurk could do anything. He could do anything. He could help so many people. He could solve so many problems. He could be...
"Do you a quirk like that would let me be a hero!?" he asked the doctor passionately
The doctor just looked at the little boy with uncertainty "I honestly don't know. You aren't the first to ask that, my boy but you are the most challenging to give an answer to. Your quirk basically makes you, at the same time prepared for every situation but also unsuitable for any of them since you don't know what you'll have to work with. All I can say is that your quirk has the potential to be extremely versatile. Maybe if you work hard enough you might be able to do it" he scratched his head unsurely
They weren't the most motivational words but Izuku's young excited mind only perceived 'Work hard to achieve my dream' and that's what he was going to do
Work day and night to reach his dream of becoming a hero like All Might, a hero who saves everyone and makes then feel safe just by giving them a blinding smile
Izuku right now had such a smile, his excitement and joy burning like a raging fire, so hot in fact that his quirk decided in was to hot for his body and decided to release some of it by turning his hair into a little blaze of emerald flames, much to the panic of the two adults in the room
"IZUKU" shouted Inko
"Turn it of young man, before-"
The sprinklers went off, putting off Izuku's hair, which turned to normal and let out some steam and also soak everything and everyone in the room
"... this happens" the doctor deadpanned
Both Midoryas apologized profusely, with Izuku the most embarrassed
Well, even heroes learn best from mistakes, and Izuku certainly had a lot to learn
Greetings folks, and welcome to the first instalment of my second story Random Effect
I wanted to make this story to exercise my hand at writing comedy and romance, both subjects I personally think I utterly suck at, but I am here to develop and also to have fun
This idea just hit me one day, and I don't think I've ever seen a fic with Izuku having a quirk quite like this so I decided to give this concept a try and see if I can make it work
For those who read my other story Moon Howl you'll see that I used the past tense writing this instead of the present one, the reason being me trying to figure out which one suits my writing style more
As you can tell there will be a lot of random shenanigans of Izuku's quirk and I would like to hear your ideas for what quirks Izuku should use. I have my own ideas but I would like to include some of yours so feel free to comment or PM me and tell what quirk would you like Izuku to use
