Hey! This isn't my first fanfic but it is my first Avengers fic, so yay! I've been reading a lot over the past few weeks tho

I don't know what this is. I wrote this at 4 in the morning after waking up from a dream. It's not beta'd or proofread. Enjoy, my friends.

I don't own anything except for whatever is in my weird-ass head.

Why had she gotten the big robot?

They were at an abandoned train station fighting a new foe, as usual, and somehow she had gotten stuck to deal with their main robotic reinforcement.

It wasn't very effective to punch a robot. She had been using her gadgets to at least make it a little weaker, but to no avail.

"Well Ms. Romanoff, it's been fun, but I'm afraid you're turning into a bit of a nuisance," the robot operator declared. The hand of the bot opened up and sealed close around her left forearm.

"Shit!" She yelled as she grabbed one of her knives, trying to wedge the arm open.

"That won't be necessary." He flicked her knife away as if it were a bug. "Let's go for a ride."

The robot's feet started humming. She had known Tony Stark for long enough to know what came next, and it did not fill her with joy. She took out another knife, a bite, a grappling hook, but nothing worked. He just threw them all away.

She started clawing at the arm frantically, desperate to get out. She knew it wouldn't do anything, but she had to try.

The robot took off into the air, Natasha dangling by his side, hanging by her forearm.

"Guys, could use some help over here!" No answer. Great.

She was going to die.

"Has anyone seen Nat?" Clint asked their group between arrows.

"She was taking care of that robot."

"Have you guys seen either of them?"

"No, not in a few minutes."

"Guys! I, uh, I found her! That robot's got her about 400 feet in the air. Tony?" Bruce said from the ground.

"I'm on it," Tony answered. He turned on his thrusters and sped towards the two.

God, that robot was fast. He had already dragged her above all of the skyscrapers and was getting faster.

He flew up next to them.

"Hey Widow, I'm here to save the day." She just rolled her eyes at him. Her lips were beginning to turn blue and her skin was even paler than normal.

"Shit. Guys, the air's getting real thin up here and she's got no gear. She can't breathe, she's gonna pass out."

Tony decided to take care of the thing responsible for this mess. He shot an energy blast at the robot's head. The force knocked Nat straight into a metal thigh.

"Ow," she wheezed.

"Sorry about that Tasha."

"Ms. Romanoff, our ride's been fun, but I'm afraid I've got bigger problems to take care of." He released Natasha's arm and grabbed Tony's head.

Natasha started speeding towards the ground, with nothing to slow her fall. Meanwhile, Tony, who had gone up there to save her, was now stuck in a metal fist fight with a robot. Great.

"Hey guys, Red's freefalling and I'm caught in a fight with Metal Boy. You've got maybe a minute, 2 max to catch her," he rushed out.

"Someone else has to do it, I'm kinda in the middle of something here!" Clint yelled, followed by something that sounded like him getting punched in the face.

"Give me a moment!" Thor shouted as he threw him hammer at one of the attackers.

"We don't have a minute, she's falling and she's falling fast. Now someone catch her already or else we're gonna lose her," Tony said, a hint of panic sneaking into his voice.

"Working on it!" Steve finally said. Similar to what he and Natasha had done in New York, he had jumped up and grabbed one of their other bots and steered it towards his unconscious falling friend.

He jumped off the bot and crashed into Natasha, wrapping his tightly around her waist, holding her securely against his chest. He tucked his shield under them, preparing for the impact. They had done this move before, but never from this high up. They were barely out of the clouds. Not to mention that Natasha couldn't curl into him like normal due to her unconscious state.

"I've got her, but we're falling fast. Too fast. Even landing on the shield, I might survive it, but she's not a super soldier," Steve warned.

Tony was still fighting the main robot, Clint was preoccupied with several people (plus he couldn't help much with this anyways) and Hulk was, well, being the Hulk.

"Rogers, hold on tightly to Lady Natasha and your shield. I have a plan, my friends. But it might hurt," Thor told them.

Steve did as he was told. He held on tightly to the handle of his shield and practically wrapped his whole body around Natasha. He folded him around her and tucked his chin over her head. She was undeniably the one in the most danger here. She was his top priority.

Thor came hurtling through the sky, pulled by Mjornir. He grabbed onto the other shield handle with one hand and used the other to hold onto Mjornir. The force from being grabbed so suddenly was certainly jarring. He'd probably feel it in his shoulder tomorrow.

"We're in the clear here," Hawkeye said over the comms.

"What Legolas said, the steel idiot is down too," Tony chimed in. "Meet back at Location X."

Cap sighed. At least they didn't have to worry about getting shot out of the sky now.

Thor gently set the pair down where the team was supposed to meet. Steve carefully unfolded himself from Nat since there was no danger anymore.

"She ok? She got hit pretty hard when I was taking on Metalhead," Tony asked as he set down on the ground.

"Nat? Can you hear me?" Cap asked softly, brushing her hair back.

Nat groaned. "Ow," she whispered. "What the hell happened?"

"What do you remember?"

"Flying in the air. Tony getting me banged against a metal leg-"

"That was NOT my fault."

"-and then nothing."

"That's because you passed out. You'll probably be nursing a concussion for a few days," Bruce chimed in.

"Ughhhh, great." Nat threw her head back dramatically in exasperation, then immediately regretted it. "Ouch."

"Lucky for you Red, we took care of the bad guys while you were taking your nap and getting knocked out of the sky by Capsicle here. Let's go home."

"Agreed."

Cap helped her to her feet, his arm wrapped around her waist for support, and then walked off to the quinjet.

Pls review! I'm gonna start writing other Marvel stuff soon, but I figured this was a good way to ease myself into the fandom. I hope you enjoyed my 4am writing and that it didn't pain you too much
