Ah, Bloodborne. I have a number of people to thank me for getting into this masochistically difficult game: my long-suffering sounding board Arawn D Draven and their oneshot crossover with The Familiar of Zero, dubbed The Hunter; ThatOnePsycho and their My Hero Academia crossover The Bloodstained Hero; and shabbacabba and lisbeth00's respective Potterverse crossovers. These helped rouse my curiosity, along with the Let's Play videos of Team Four Star, into trying the game. I almost regretted it, and it took so long for me to 'git gud', being the filthy casual I was. But after a lot of grinding and frustrating moments, I did, and I found myself enjoying the game.
As followers of my sample chapters compilation the Cauldron will attest, I've been trying to start a crossover between Bloodborne and the Potterverse for some time. Indeed, this story had its first two chapters posted as Yharnam Animagus, but I decided to reuse the title of another would-be story with a different plot, Eldritch Blood, which suits the story better, IMO. The process proved frustrating, with various plots stalling time and again. This one, however, has potential.
One of the great advantages of doing fanfic with Soulsborne games in general is that the story and lore is vague, and yet rich. In other words, there's a lot to play about with, especially for fanfic, and Bloodborne in particular is ripe for such things. Witness Galatea, my first foray into Bloodborne fanfic, and a crossover with Neil Gaiman's comic series, The Sandman (plug, plug): the thought of the Hunter's Dream being stolen from the realm of Dream of the Endless was an appealing one, and gave an excuse for the Doll to meet with Dream himself.
I hope, then, that this story, while based on a specific interpretation of Bloodborne lore, will be enjoyable to those who have played the game, or indeed, even those who haven't. I have some twists in mind for this story, and I hope that one of the bigger ones will have players of the game sit in thought, before thinking that makes a lot of sense.
Anyway, time for the usual disclaimers. Firstly, there will be spoilers for both Bloodborne, and the Potterverse.
Secondly, there will be annotations, heavy annotations, and bellyachers will be treated with all due contempt.
Thirdly, for language, violence, horror and sexual references, this is an M-rated work.
Finally, the following is a fan-written work. Harry Potter and Bloodborne are the properties of their respective owners. Please support the official release. Otherwise, the Yahar'gul kidnappers will come for you, and put you in their filthy sacks for experiments by the School of Mensis…
