Tyson and Hilary are meant to be together, but both refuse to confess. As team captain, Kai steps in to lend a helping hand. However, will Tyson only make himself appear a fool?

Most of the people in the crowd rose to their feet and clapped, calling out Tyson's name, the sound almost deafening. But this time they were not cheering because of a victory, but because Tyson had earned the right to announce the official opening of the new world class beyblading training facility. The BBA had boasted it would be the finest facility in the world, and Tyson was the face of it.

But the boy only had eyes for one person. Hilary, the so-called wicked witch of eighth grade. Several years had passed since then of course, but Tyson still liked to call Hilary a witch. A witch who had cast a powerful spell over Tyson, and one the boy didn't know how to deal with. A spell called love. It was as clear as a bright sunny day, yet Tyson was as blind as a bat.

"He is so in love with her," Max said with a grin, casting a gaze in the direction of Tyson Granger. The Champion was stealing glances at Hilary, but every time she turned around, he would look away. It was cute really, but also frustrating at the same time.

Kai followed Max's gaze, a thin smile spreading across his mouth. "What? Tyson? I thought beyblading had captured his heart. Is there really any room for anything… or anyone else in there?"

Max sighed. "Kai. Everyone is capable of love… Yes, even you." He jerked his head in Tyson's direction. The poor boy was so clueless. He wouldn't know the way to woman's heart even with directions. "So, give him a nudge in the right direction."

Raising an eyebrow, Kai said, "Why does it have to be me?"

Max gave him a sheepish smile. "Because Tyson is a friend who is clueless. I could talk to him myself, but I promised Rei I'd help him out with the cooking for the children's tournament this afternoon." He took a step back just in case Kai decided to deck him. "Besides, you're team captain, and the coach too, so it's part of the job description and all."

"I did not sign up for this." Kai glanced at Tyson again, his brows furrowed. Folding his arms across his chest, he added, "What am I supposed to say to him? You know he's not going to listen. He's more stubborn than I am."

"I'm sure you'll think of something. Bye, Kai!"

Max waved and quickly ran away before Kai could protest. If anyone could talk to Tyson about confessing his feelings, it would be Kai. The boy had a funny way of getting people to admit stuff. Secretly glad that he didn't have to give the talk, Max sprinted out of the building and towards freedom, craving the warmth of the sunshine on his skin.

"…You look like you've seen Kai naked. I've never seen anyone run that fast…"

Max turned his head to the right and found Michael leaning against the wall, his arms folded. He seemed to be pulling his best Kai-impression, but he didn't have the style. "Michael. I thought you'd be inside enjoying the atmosphere." He then frowned, Michael's words sinking in. "…I've seen Kai once actually. And no – he didn't chase after me, demanding my head on his plate. He was so mortified, he didn't speak to me for a week," Max explained.

Michael chuckled. "Oh man, Kai actually has emotions?"

"Yes. He's not made of stone, you know. He is a living, breathing human being."

"… Whatever."

"Wouldn't you be mortified if you were caught wearing your birthday suit?"

Michael threw his hands up in defeat. "…All right, all right, you made your point. What are you doing anyway? I thought you would be in there celebrating the moment. I mean, I know your true loyalties lie with the Bladebreakers."

"I have to help Rei and Oliver with the food. You know we're doing the sausage sizzle. Someone must watch the barbecue, someone else puts the hot dog together, and the last person has to take the orders. It's a three-person job and it's going to be hectic. You know there's supposed to be fifty thousand people here?"

Michael shrugged. "That's a lot of sausages to be sold."

Max nodded. "I know, right?" After a pause, he added, "…Maybe you should give Emily one."

"What?" The baseball player moved a hand to his hat – something he often did when he was anxious about something… not that he would ever admit to it though.

Max had plenty of time to study the All-Starz during the break from the Bladebreakers. "Oh come on. I know Tyson has no sense about women, but I thought you'd be more knowledgeable in this area. Tyson and Hilary argue a lot about everything. You and Emily argue about almost everything. Do you see the connection?" It was always the loud and brash ones that were the most clueless it seemed.

"I'm so not having this conversation with you."

Max grinned. "You're just as bad as Tyson."

Michael turned his back. "…Whatever, Maxie."

Max didn't even get a chance to protest the use of the name 'Maxie'. Only his mother could call him that. The older American headed inside the building to avoid playing twenty-one questions with Max. Withholding a sigh, Max shook his head. "Honestly… why hide the obvious? Certainly would make things so much easier…" he murmured as he walked away.

.

Kai grumbled, sticking both his hands into his pockets, desperately trying to think of good conversation starters about romance with Tyson. They simply did not talk about women, dating, love, and other similar things. But Max was right – he was the team captain and coach and he had responsibilities, such as making sure his teammates were all mentally fit to blade. If Tyson was so in love with Hilary, then it might affect his blading and they couldn't have Tyson fall into blading depression again.

"Right. What should I say?" Kai said aloud. Tyson had returned to the dressing room where he was probably deciding what he should have for dinner tonight. "Tyson. Talk to Hilary. Seriously. Talk to her. No, that won't do. You're a champion, Tyson. That's what you claim to be. But you haven't won Hilary's heart yet." He scrunched up his face and shuddered. "No. That's something Enrique would come up with."

Did Max seriously think he could do this?

Kai approached Tyson's door and knocked on it. There was a big golden star on the door with Tyson's name in big black font. After three knocks, the door swung open.

"Hil-oh, it's you," Tyson said, his grin fading.

"Oh, you wound me," Kai replied, his tone laced with thick sarcasm, placing a hand over his heart. "Don't sound too terribly excited. I might not be Hilary, but I want to talk to you about Hilary." Kai pushed Tyson aside and closed the door behind them. He then leaned against it to ensure Tyson could not run away. The boy took a few steps back.

Tyson's dressing room was surprisingly clean. Simple, but clean. He had a bed for quick naps, a dressing table with a mirror to pamper himself before the cameras, and he had his own personal shower and toilet. Lucky bastard, Kai thought sourly. Everyone else had to share the team one.

"What's the problem, captain?" Tyson said with a playful grin.

Kai fought the urge to roll his eyes. How old was Tyson again? Apparently sixteen, but he acted like he was five years old sometimes. Kai folded his arms and pinned back his shoulders to make himself appear bigger so he could look more authoritarian. "You. You're distracted. You thought I was Hilary. I don't know if I should be offended or not."

"She said she'd be coming back with pizza," Tyson replied, his grin fading.

Of course. Pizza. How typical. The boy really had a one-track mind. "I don't care about your pizza. I care about your mental state – are you fit to play in the tournament? Your mind is elsewhere, Tyson. The rest of the team knows it too. So, why don't you do me a favour and just confess."

Tyson gave him a blank look. It was as if someone had told him there would never be pizza again. "Confess what?"

"That Hilary is important to you."

"Well, of course she is. She's part of the team."

Kai sighed. "Obviously, but she's more than just 'part of the team'. Tyson. I'm the captain and coach, and coach always knows best. I see things you probably don't realize about yourself, and I know… and our teammates know… That you like Hilary more than a friend." Why did it sound so much easier in his head? Was this what it felt like for parents when they found out their children had a crush? Had Tyson's grandfather given him the talk? Did he really want to know?

Tyson started laughing. "Me? Hilary? No way."

He tried to cover it up with laughter, but that's what Tyson did when he was uncertain.

"You're not fooling me, Tyson – and you know me. I can't be fooled." Kai folded his arms and glared, making sure to put on his best 'serious' face.

Realizing Kai was dead serious, Tyson's smile disappeared. "…Am I that transparent?"

"Well, Max brought it up first. Then Rei added his two cents. I realized they were both right. She likes you. You like her. It's as obvious as daylight. So, why don't you do something about it? The world will become a much better place."

Well, not really – the world wouldn't change – but it would make the beyblading world a little more exciting… and perhaps Tyson would lose interest in beyblading allowing Kai to take the number one spot. Yes, that sounded like a brilliant plan. He would've given himself a pat on the back if he was alone.

Tyson sighed. "And what am I supposed to say?"

Kai shrugged. "I know I'm smart, but sometimes you have to think for yourself, Tyson. Just… I don't know, be yourself? She clearly sees something about you worth liking even if you are a clown 99 percent of the time." He gave Tyson one of his trademark smirks.

Rolling his eyes, Tyson said, "That's one of the nicest compliments you've ever given me."

Smirk fading, Kai added, "Just… Ask her out to dinner or something. A movie? Go out for lunch somewhere? Just the two of you? Start small?" He tried to recall the other romantic things humans did when they were trying to court someone. Thank goodness for all those chick flicks Ming Ming had made him watch that one night during his stay at BEGA League. "Come on, Tyson. I've never known you to back down from a challenge. You can do it."

Tyson drew in a deep breath and exhaled as loudly as possible. "I'll think about it."

"Don't hurt yourself. Don't think too hard."

Tyson rolled his eyes. "Don't let the door hit you on the way out."

Kai snickered. Insulting Tyson was their way of showing friendship. Knowing it was time to leave, Kai turned his back and headed towards the door. That had gone much smoother than he thought, but would Tyson rise to the challenge of courting Hilary successfully?

As always, reviews much appreciated! I'll probably do another chapter later in which Tyson courts Hilary because that's always fun to write.
