HEY GUYS! This is my 1st HTTYD fanfiction, based on a moment from The Hidden World movie, when they first see the Light Fury and she fires a plasma blast in their direction. Just an idea I had in mind :D Originally written in Polish and translated.
Enjoy!
They emerged from a thicket of trees into an open clearing, overgrown with grass and ferns. Toothless was already there – but not alone. He was accompanied by another dragon, roughly similar to Night Fury, only... white.
White Fury? Oh shit.
'Wow', whispered Hiccup, taking a step forward to get a better view.
A twig snapped under his boot. A dragon – or maybe a dragoness? She looked quite girlish, although it was hard to get a good look in this light – she momentarily tore her gaze away from her companion and looked towards the trees. At the sight of people she growled loudly and opened her jaw. Astrid understood in a flash and rushed to remove Hiccup from the line of fire, shouting a warning. The tree hit by the plasma shattered into pieces and the force of the explosion sent the riders into the air.
The force of the impact left the girl breathless, but she quickly picked herself up.
'Hiccup? Are you all right?', she said.
There was no answer, apart from the sound of the forest and the Toothless growling. Astrid levered herself to her feet, pushing her hair out of her eyes. She looked to her right, to her left, and finally spotted the boy, in the grass, a few yards away. He was faintly visible in the moonlight, only the metal parts of his outfit and his prosthetic leg.
Ignoring the dull pain in her hip, she took a few steps towards the boy, calling out to him once more. The flapping of wings distracted her. The white dragoness, clearly displeased with the company of humans, took to the air, squawked loudly and flew off into the dark night. Toothless responded with a similar squawk, but made no attempt to chase her. Instead, he scurried towards his rider, who was still lying motionless.
Astrid crouched beside the boy and, catching him by the shoulder, gently turned him onto his back. She drew in her breath sharply at the sight of blood trickling down in a thin stream just above his left ear. His eyes were closed, his mouth parted, but his breathing was quite as normal. He must have banged his head on a stone, she thought. Typical of him.
'Hiccup, can you hear me? Come on, wake up, come on,' she said, patting his cheek. She moved her other hand through the boy's dark hair, pulling it back so she could get a better look at the wound. Night Fury shoved under her arm, which threw the blonde off balance 'Hey!'
The dragon didn't seem to hear it. He licked the brunet on the cheek with his long tongue, getting no response, so he licked again, harder. Letting out a worried murmur, he nudged the boy a few times with his nose, and it finally had its effect. Hiccup groaned quietly and opened his eyes. Stunned, he blinked a few times and tried to get up, but the girl held him by the shoulders.
'Shh. Just lie still.'
'A...Astrid?' he mumbled blurrily. His head was spinning, he couldn't focus his eyes in one place. Everything seemed foggy, and it was dark, but he managed to distinguish the shape of a girl leaning over him and a familiar black dragon beside him. 'What is it? Where...' he stopped for a moment 'That dragon! She fired at us... Where is she?'
'Flew away, but don't worry, she will be back.'
The girl got up and started rummaging through the bag attached to Toothless' saddle. Riders were in the habit of carrying necessities with them, like bandages and a canteen of water, and luckily she found a few of those. She calmed down a bit when she saw that Hiccup was conscious and functioning, but she still had to do something about his bleeding forehead. The boy tried hard to sit up straight, so she supported him and sat him down so that his back was against the dragon and his legs were stretched forward. They didn't talk much while Astrid cleaned the cut and wrapped it with a bandage. It got even darker, so the dragon fired a charge of plasma into a nearby tree to make visibility a bit better. The whole action lasted barely a few minutes, punctuated by occasional hisses of pain from Hiccup and encouraging words from the girl. Fortunately the wound was not serious, just a scratch.
Hiccup looked like he could fall asleep at any moment, so the girl only had a quick glance at herself – she had landed on the moss, so apart from a bruised hip, she had no major injuries. She whistled at Stormfly and told her to fly ahead to Berk; she had another idea for how she was going to get home.
'Astrid come on... You don't have to fly with me, get on the Stormfly. I'll be fine, Toothless knows what to do.'
Here we go.
She looked at the boy, who, sure enough, got up on his own, and didn't even topple over, but it was obvious that it was costing him a lot. She herself was tired, let alone him. She crossed her arms over her chest, blue eyes casting bolts of lightning.
'Hiccup, do you really want to discuss this now? You can't steer Toothless' tail in this state, I bet you have a concussion – don't tell me you don't, I know better – we don't need you to faint and both of you to fall down, besides, this bandage is a temporary fix, Gothi needs to take a look at you. I'm going with you, that' s it.'
Hiccup opened his mouth to reply, but she silenced him by putting her finger on his lips. She put her arm around the boy's waist and partly walked him, partly dragged to Toothless, who was waiting for them with his tongue hanging out. Come laugh, reptile, thought the boy, climbing on the saddle in front of Astrid, I wonder how you would deal with such a stubborn woman.
Toothless girl doesn't like me, he muttered disgustedly, Unbelievable...
