This is the first chapter of this story and we'll see where it goes. Please read and review thanks, love Angel x
Petunia opened her front door screaming at the baby in the basket she found there. His green eyes could be none other than Lily's. This was her son but what on earth was he doing here and how did he get here? She picked up the basket and brought it into the kitchen where Vernon was drinking a cup of tea and himself shrieked upon seeing the baby making Dudley wail and sending an angry and exhausted Petunia glaring at him. Dudley was in all honesty a nightmare. He had colic and even though he was one and a half it still flared up. Initially Petunia cursed thinking he'd somehow managed to magic himself here and cursed her useless sister for not having a phone so she could call her. She handed Harry to Vernon instructing him to feed the baby a bottle while she read the letter inside his basket.
Petunia Evans Dursley,
My name is Albus Dumbledore the headmaster of Hogwarts school of Witchcraft and Wizardry. It is with an exceptionally heavy heart that I inform you of the death of your sister Lily and her husband James who died to protect Harry James Potter, your nephew and the baby contained within this basket. I know from previously conversing with Lily that she told you all about the dark lord, Lord Voldemort and how dangerous he was. He found their home and killed them. They were defenceless against someone of his calibre. In essence they stood no chance. It was like a hot knife through butter.
Lord Voldemort attempted to kill Harry and I can but assume their sacrificial magic protected the tot as Lord Voldemort is no more and Harry is the reason for this. As you can see it puts him in great danger as many supporters of Voldemort will be out for his blood and he has been left an orphan. I have put special wards or walls if you like on your home connected directly to the baby boy before you. If he is loved and treated kindly until he is eleven years old and re-enters our world no one evil shall ever be able to harm you.
Once he reaches the age of seventeen the legal adult age here in our world this protection will be gone. I implore you to take him in and care for him as you would your own son. Please love and care for him for you are all he has left. He doesn't have anyone and I would kindly request you to get over the feelings you had towards your sister. You may have hated one another but he is not Lily and I merely ask you to see that. In this sack here you will find one thousand pounds for his upkeep this month as I am not sure how many pounds a baby needs per month. Every month one thousand pounds will enter your bank account under the name of G. Hook and it is this money which you should use to care for the boy. I can but assume that will be enough money per month. I would not see you out of pocket simply because he must live with you. Such a thing would be unfair. I offer my sincerest condolences.
Signed,
Albus Dumbledore.
She read it crying as she handed the letter over to Vernon who read it seriously.
"Well Pet what should we do?" he asked as she sniffled into a tissue.
"That fucker! I warned her marrying that Potter oaf would see her in trouble and she refused to listen to me and now she's dead because of it. I swear to god I hate her more now than I did when she was alive. I refuse to spend any of my own money on him. I won't hear of it Vernon. If this money is for his care then it will be used as such. When he is old enough he can control it himself. I don't care what he does with it so long as he spends it all on himself and never asks us for a penny. I cannot hate him because he never asked his mother to be an idiot. Here take some of this and go to the baby store on the high street. We'll need some clothing, shoes and baby accessories. Get a few bottles and some dummies if he even takes them!" she said in a hurry as Harry looked up at her and said mama.
Her heart broke all over again. She refused to hate a baby. Her sister was the idiot in all of this. If she'd only listened and married someone normal after school she would have still been here. It didn't need to end in disaster. She could have simply come home again and although it would have taken time she would have eventually been able to forgive her to the extent that they may even have started talking again. To leave ones baby alone in the world with not much care did seem heartless to her even if they'd done so to protect him. Because of it he was now alone and they were now lumbered with him whether they liked it or not. At least each month he'd have money coming in which could care for him so they'd never need to be out of pocket over him. Each month his one thousand pounds would be placed inside a large money bank they would buy for the house and at the age of eight when he could finally have a child's saving account he could put his money in there. Harry drank the bottle quickly a huge smile on his face.
"Tank ooh!" he said as she looked at him with a slight smile on her face.
"You are welcome Harry. At least I can say you do have more manners than Dudley. Come on Duddikins please stop crying for mummy!" she said sounding exhausted as Harry clapped and some bubbles danced above Dudley's face as he said no. Dudley did stop crying and Petunia had never been more relieved about magic in that moment. Soon after the bubbles went away he once more started crying his eyes out. Petunia went outside where Vernon was unloading the car of all of the baby things he'd bought for five hundred pounds. There were some men who were coming to set up the cot cum toddler bed in the spare bedroom which as of yet had no bed in it. She put Dudley in his car seat and brought him to the doctor as the crying was driving her crazy. Possibly if he saw the baby he'd understand. She and Dudley were called into the office of the doctor a female who smiled at her.
"Now then let's see what's wrong with Little Dudley here. Please lift up his shirt and I'll quickly check his vitals. Ok that seems alright. Has he been crying a lot?" she asked making some notes.
"Yes all the time. I think he even has colic. It's been like this since he was born. It did stop for many months but recently started back up again and I am afraid I cannot take it!" she cried as the doctor nodded making more notes and taking Dudley in her arms lay him on the bed to do some tests on him. She messaged different parts of his body shocked as he screamed and roared when she touched one part.
"I do not intend to scare you Mrs Dursley but I can tell from my examinations of him that his condition is serious. I will need to bring him next door to the scanner for a moment to confirm!" she said leaving the room to scan him as Petunia sat there quaking. What a morning it had been. The scan confirmed her thoughts. He had childhood appendicitis and had been crying out for this reason. He was along with Petunia whisked off to A&E where upon he was instantly rushed off for surgery. She could do nothing but quake as she waited to hear of what had happened to him. It had been intense. An hour they surgeon came back out smiling.
"Mrs Dursley the surgery was a success and may I say we got him here in time. He was pretty bad. We have given him a mild laxative as babies can often get constipated after surgery like this. He'll be in with us for the next week but you're welcome to see him now. He's here in his room on the children's ward. Vernon had come in bringing Harry with him. Harry could walk but he wasn't looking where he was going and ran off knocking into a table corner which whacked his head right by his scar which started bleeding. It was a stunned Harry who cried and an even more stunned Vernon who watched as Harry was escorted away by the nurse with him following. His scar wouldn't stop bleeding and they all thought he'd gotten it from the table. That didn't make any sense to them but for some reason today sense seemed to go out of the window. As they couldn't stem the bleeding he was taken for emergent surgery himself as Petunia full on wailed.
"Can this day get any worse? What if he dies too Vernon? I couldn't take it. We were lucky I got Dudley here when I did. He has had his appendix removed. We are lucky we got here in time. Oh Vernon!" she sobbed in his arms.
In the theatre room Harry's forehead was cut open and the skin peeled back to see what the bleeding was being caused by. There was something black and ugly pulsing in the area and the confused surgeon who had never seen anything like that decided to simply cut what he assumed to be an infected piece of his forehead out. As he carefully cut the ligaments attaching this piece of him to his forehead the black stuff wailed out dying and the bleeding was able to be finally stemmed as the piece he'd removed from the forehead died due to necrosis. It had clearly died from a lack of proper blood supply which would explain why blood had gathered in the area like it had. He was patched up and his forehead stitched back together. He was put next to Dudley with an IV blood infusion for all of the blood he'd lost to make sure. Both babies were also given all their relevant shots whilst they were here. In a week both boys who were much healthier and in the case of Dudley happier were able to come home. They developed a good routine of using Harry's money to care for him solely so they didn't have to fork out for him themselves. This would buy his school clothes and books as he got older. Harry would be a very different boy when he returned to the magical world that's for sure.
