Hi! After months and months of loving this book, I've finally decided to hop on the bandwagon and write a fic for it. I hope you like it! X
The ballroom was filled with people. Everyone talked and laughed as the music bounced off the walls of the room, but Frederick Wentworth only had eyes for one person. He stood, and held out his hand to his fiancée.
"May I have this dance, Miss Elliot?" He asked, a smile brightening his eyes.
"You may, Captain Wentworth," she responded, taking his hand.
They went onto the floor as the music began, and he looked at her, pure love in his eyes.
"What?" She asked.
"You're beautiful," he told her sincerely, resulting in her blushing with a smile.
"You don't look so bad yourself," she responded.
They continued in silence, just enjoying each other's company, until the end of the dance, when he smiled softly, his eyes crinkling as he looked at her.
"I know that look," she told him. "What are you thinking?"
"Come with me," he told her, and he led her to a small room beside the assembly room.
"I was just remembering Miss Louisa telling me that you'd given up dancing, but it turns out you haven't."
Her smile faded slightly.
"I didn't give up dancing, Frederick," she told him. "I gave up dancing with everyone but you."
"I know," he told her, squeezing her hand. "Why did you?"
"Surely you already know the answer" she responded. "No one could ever compare to you, so I slowly withdrew from life, and suppressed my emotions. My life became about convenience for others, because if I myself could not be happy, I could at least try and make them so. When Louisa asked me to play the piano so they could dance for the first time four years ago, I said yes, and began doing it every time she requested, because it was what was desired, and my happiness no longer mattered."
Frederick felt his heart shattering into little pieces.
"I have said this before, but you are too good and too excellent of a creature. How did I ever get so lucky as to get a second chance after the way I treated you last year?" He asked quietly.
"Because you love me as I should be loved," she told him. "And that is all I could ever ask from you."
He took her hand up to his lips and kissed it, his eyes shining as much as hers were. They were stars, and nothing could ever separate them again.
Thank you so so much for reading.
