Episode 4: Elektra
So for those who are familiar with me, I realize it's been three years. And I've been heavily unresponsive for a while, and yet again, I apologize. I'm not even good with my excuses, but I can say for sure that my ideas for Wolverine's finale is definitely in the works now with a clear vision.
And as for this mini-series, I've suddenly began to feel that I would be doing this series a disservice for not following the proper source material as intended, so instead of just pulling in side-characters I write about, I will instead bring in characters outside of the stories I write about, especially ones that inhabit the Marvel Universe I wish to explore upon. So let's mark this one as a celebratory occasion for the ongoing Daredevil: Born Again series dropping every Tuesday.
As always, all characters belong to Marvel and Disney.
Enjoy!
Plucked from the streets at a young age, the girl was trained in the art of combat by the ancient order known as the Chaste, to prepare for a war against an evil organization known only as the Hand. Growing up, she was sent to meet a man whose sight is lost but has hearing that is beyond human norms and was trained by the same man who trained her. She sought him out, tempted him, and even grew to love him as he loved her.
Years later, they would meet again, and fight side by side against the Hand, only for her to die by their hands in an effort to save her beloved and spare the world of the prophecy that was known as the Black Sky. However, her efforts were in vain as the Hand used their remaining resources to resurrect her, bringing the Black Sky to life in the form of the woman who died in the Devil's arms.
Soon after, they would meet again on opposite sides as the war would finally conclude in New York City... The man who loved her, vowed to bring her back, to save her from the Hand's influence. There, from the hidden depths of Midland Circle, they would fight, only for the man in Red to remain to convince her of the light that remained inside of her. But their fight would only last for so long until the bombs that would explode would destroy the circle, burying everything the Hand built, and the two lovers that had touched each other's hearts.
In their final moments together, the woman who was known to the Hand as the Black Sky would come terms to the nature of her love for him, not as the weapon forged from either Chaste or Hand, but as the woman he knew her as...
Elektra...
Before... Beneath Midland Circle...
boom...
"I'm sorry, Matthew... For all the pain I've caused you along the way..."
rmm...
"You know... We're gonna die here."
rummmmble...
"no..."
Rummmmmmmmble...
"This is what living feels like."
BOOM!
A pair of black eyes opened. Her breath gasped out softly. Her hands gripped the bedsheets on the opposite side where someone else would have slept. Yearning for the bodily touch of someone she knew once.
Someone she loved.
Her hand moved to pull the black hair locks out of her face. She moved, raising her waist up on the bed, feeling the sunlight shine on her skin. She blinked, looking around the bedroom floor she slept on. She blinked again, trying to remember it. But she did not. Something about this floor seemed... foreign to her. The floor was a soft carpet tile, the walls as red as the clothing she once wore. The clothes she wore now; were not the ones she wore when she was with...
"...min lanti ho jaon ga."
She lunged out of bed, grabbed the person who spoke, and pinned them against the wall. Her eyes glaring, her teeth showing a nasty scowl while the man in front of her winced from her assault.
"Where am I?"
"Whoa, miss..." She grabbed a pencil and held it at his throat. "Easy!"
"WHERE AM I?"
"In my apartment..."
"Where is your apartment?" She questioned, inquiring knowledge. "Enlighten me, or I'll tear out your throat!"
"...Jersey!" The man told her. "Jersey City, New Jersey! In Greenville, the neighborhood where I live! That's where you are now!"
"Where's Matthew?"
"Who?!"
"The man who I was with before I blacked out, where is he?!"
"Miss, just calm down, please!" The man told her rationally while she remained actively aggressive. "You need to take a breath... And can you please not hurt me with my pen?"
She huffed and puffed through her nose, squinting slightly. She slowly drew the weapon away, but still had the tip pointed at the man.
"...what are you?" She questioned, thinking critically. "You're one of those perverts who take in vulnerable women? Trap them in your mercy?"
"I'm a doctor," The man explained. "I run a clinic downstairs."
"How convenient for you."
"You... aren't very trusting, are you?"
"You'll find that I'm not very patient, either," She took a step closer. "Now talk, or I'll change my mind and put this back where I had it."
"Gladly," The doctor said, raising his hands while sweating. Intimidated by her. "Ask away."
She looked outside the window, seeing nothing that resembled the streets of New York.
"...where did you find me?" She asked, looking back at him. "Last night, when I blacked out. Where was I?"
"On a boat. Someone else found you, in the water just hovering in the Waterfront," He told her. "They saw how critically injured you were, and they took you in to my clinic immediately as soon as they docked."
"And the crew who ran the boat," She asked persistingly. "Where do I find them?"
"Well, I can't say."
"Why not?"
"Because... I don't know where they are."
"Are you lying?" She asked, itching herself closer. "Because I have ways to make you talk."
"I'm sure you do," The doctor held the wall behind him as he saw her bringing the pencil back to his neck slowly. "But I have no reason to lie to you. I wouldn't have any at all."
She scoffed, and just as she made a step closer, she tripped and fell. She groaned, feeling extremely weak as fatigue suddenly overwhelmed her. The man knelt to her, but she drew her improvised weapon on him in return.
"Touch me, and you'll be dead in minutes," She threatened, making her deadly promise sound and genuine.
"I don't doubt you have the capability, but as your doctor, I would say otherwise. Your legs haven't moved on their own in a long time during your sleep, I'm surprised they managed to move just based on adrenaline..."
"Sleep?" She questioned, confused. "What are you on about?"
"That's what I was trying to explain to you," The Doctor sighed, seeing her puzzled by his response. "The crew who saved you... The ones who fished you out of the river? The last time I saw them was three years ago."
She froze. Her head rolled. Her lips opened, and she was unable to form a proper reply the second the answer was given to her.
"...years?"
"...You've been in a coma, miss," The Doctor told her. "Last night as you put it, happened three years ago. Your body was a broken mess when you came to us, it took weeks for your bones to heal, but you never did recover until... now... And as for the man you were with... Matthew, was it? I'm sorry, but I'm afraid you were the only one found that night."
She sighed, narrowing her eyes. "...New York. I... We, were in New York when it happened," She crawled on the floor, toward the bed. "He'll likely be there. I have to find him..."
"You are in no condition to go anywhere," The Doctor helped her, getting her to sit on the bed. "You need rest. Your legs need to rehabilitate themselves before they learn how to walk again."
"They knew how to walk when I threatened to kill you," She snapped, frustrated with her body and with how long she's been away.
"Adrenaline carries weight when a survival instinct kicks. And some people such as yourself can be able to move on their own after a three-year coma," The Doctor said. "You've also lost considerable muscle over the years due to bodily inactivity. But I have no doubt you can make a full recovery. I... Haven't gotten your name, by the way..."
"You've had me for years, but you don't know who I am?"
"Well, you were listed as a Jane Doe, so that's the only name we've been able to come up for you," The Doctor replied, taking a stool to level with her. "I'm Doctor Aziz Sadik. I specialize in Neurology. I've been treating you, and caring for you ever since you landed on my doorstep."
She sighed, hearing him introduce himself. "...Elektra. Natchios."
Elektra has spent the majority of her days and nights living in the clinic, trying to recover from her coma. Doctor Sadik, along with various staff in the clinic, has helped in her recovery as her body readjusted itself over time. Borrowing a laptop from the staff, Elektra has accessed the internet to research the events that occurred during her sleep. Midland Circle was a long-gone relic of the past, having been destroyed due to explosives that were produced by the architect of the very building he created. But she wasn't worried about Midland Circle, or the Hand, or any of the others she encountered during the conflict.
She needed to know about Matthew.
Looking him up, it came as a relief to her when it was revealed that he had indeed survived the building collapse as she did. A year was spent since the vigilante known as Daredevil was last sighted at Midland Circle before its collapse until some grisly murders occurred at the New York Bulletin, orchestrated by a man dressed in Daredevil's suit. An imposter, no doubt, given Matthew's reluctance to kill. The ruse was eventually uncovered by the true Daredevil when Wilson Fisk, the man Matthew had dedicated his job to taking down, was arrested along with his newly wedded Vanessa Marianna after it was revealed he had corrupted some members of the FBI into his pocket, including one Benjamin Poindexter, who was in fact the said Imposter that wore Daredevil's costume to shine a bad light on him. After that, the rest should have been history...
Should have, at least, if it wasn't for a man named James Wesley.
Apparently, he was assaulted by one Karen Page, having been shot several times before he himself was induced into a coma. He woke up, and threatened to testify that Page herself was the one responsible for his attempt on his life, as an act of some conspiracy to frame Wilson Fisk for simply being the "Legitimate Businessman" he was made to be. There were no more records after this, as Page was placed under witness protection shortly after. Then, it turns out that sightings of Daredevil has been surfacing all the way to the West Coast, revealing Daredevil's new location in San Francisco.
She smiled at this. He was alive. But he moved on. That's okay. She had been asleep for years, and he assumed she was dead. It was nothing she could have faulted him for.
Especially when she was the one who let a building fall on top of them both. Though she was surprised he would allow a man such as Fisk to run free after being exposed as the scourge as he was. But turns out he didn't have to. A new hero in New York who dressed like a Spider, a very young hero by the sounds of it, exposed Fisk by streaming his confession live for the world to see. After that, he was subsequently arrested and brought to the Ravencroft Institute after being exposed to some kind of "Goblin" Chemical that drove him, along with millions of people in the Five Boroughs mad.
Sounds like he got off easy yet again, unlike most others.
"Finding what you're looking for, Ms. Natchios?" Doctor Sadik came in with a cup of water for Elektra.
"Most of it, yes," Elektra confirmed, accepting the cup from the good doctor. "I've found my man."
"Yes? Is he okay?" Doctor Sadik asked, and she smiled.
"He's fine. He's moved on without me, but it's alright."
"Do you have his number? Perhaps, we could contact him..."
"No," Elektra responded firmly. "Thank you, but it's alright. It's been a long time, and... I think right now, I need to focus on myself as opposed to..."
Causing him more pain.
"...Anyway, I've been feeling my legs more and more with each passing day."
"That's good. I've been checking your neural patterns for any critical injuries to your brain," Sadik said. "And so far, you have none that are detected. You are a very tough woman, Ms. Natchios."
"You wouldn't know the half of it," Elektra replied hummingly as she sipped her cup. "So how soon am I free to go?"
"Well, I don't wanna say tomorrow, but let's see how your body feels after tonight," Sadik answered with a smile. "I'm highly optimistic that you'll be able to make a full recovery by the end of the week."
Elektra smiled, narrowing her eyes. "...It's been three years like you said. I don't know if I'll have the money to pay you back in full..."
"Don't worry about it. There's no need for any medical expenses, not at this clinic," Sadik reassured her. "For now, just worry about getting better. And then you can go out and try to get your life back together."
Elektra smiled at that answer wider. "Oh, I'll try."
The Doctor left, leaving Elektra alone as she closed the laptop, watching him open the door. Her eye peaked, raising a brow as she noticed a redhead just standing out in the open, looking right back at her.
Night dawned, and Elektra slept on the bed she first woke up in. A window opened, and a warrior clad in red and black robes came through. Sais drawn as the hand that opened the window closed it. Eyes peeked through the red mask, staring at Elektra's sleeping beauty. Her body was covered in the blanket that warmed it, blinding her of the threat that invaded her safe space.
The hand that opened the window reached out, drawing out a sai. Preparing to kill. They reached out, grabbing the blanket, and the sai struck down, stabbing the body hard and mercilessly. The sai pulled out, and the blanket was removed...
Only to find a stack of pillows pulled together to perform a misdirection.
"Hello."
The warrior turned, and Elektra surprised and attacked by jump kicking the mask off. The warrior was knocked back, knocking over some furniture as they fell over, letting Elektra take first hit. Hearing the noise drawn by the altercation, Doctor Sadik opened the door, seeing Elektra engaged in combat.
"Ms. Natchios?!"
"You need to run back downstairs," Elektra told him. "It's not safe-!"
The warrior knocked Elektra off her feet by swinging their feet on hers. The warrior jumped up, revealing to be the same redhead from earlier. Her eyes looked at the doctor, being an open witness to the attempted assassination. Her hand used the sai, and lunged after Sadik, but not before Elektra could intervene, rolling over and jumping up to plant her hands at the sai, preventing death by the warrior's hand.
"I thought I'd recognized you... Tyler, was it?" Elektra questioned, keeping the sai away from Sadik. "You worked for the Hand."
"As did you, until you destroyed it!" Tyler brought the other sai, cutting Elektra in the stomach as they pushed themselves away. "You remember these, don't you? They were with you when you died. It's only fitting you'd die again by the ones you wielded!"
"Just fucking try it!"
Tyler yelled, and Elektra pushed Sadik out of the door and slammed it shut. Sadik could hear the violence erupting from inside the door as he got up, moving quickly as he saw some nurses walk up. He told them to walk back down, telling them it wasn't safe. Then the door broke down, letting the fight expand into the hallways.
"oh my god!"
"Down! Downstairs, now!" Sadik told them as they moved down, Elektra stayed behind to fight her enemy. Fighting her in the hallway as she and her fought with fists and knives.
Elektra ducked and jumped, kicking Tyler by the abdomen. Rolling over, Elektra kept her head down as Tyler tossed a sai right on the wall where she would have raised up. Plucking it out of the wall, the fight became equally fair as she used a sai to fight back Tyler. The two of them dueled, and Elektra fought with all her training. But due to having fighting for the first time since waking from her coma, her skills have been a little sluggish. Even Tyler noticed when Elektra smacked her in the face. She rubbed the blood off her lips, and smiled.
"...you hit like a little bitch."
"come on."
The fight traveled the stairs, moving upward as the two women fought it out. Tyler gained momentum, kicking Elektra to a door, and kicking her again to break the door down, raising them both to the roof. Tyler walked through, keeping Elektra in her sights until a shirt got in the way. As it happens, Tyler and Elektra's fight leads them to a rooftop terrace filled with outside laundry, with wet clothes being hung out to dry.
Retreating to the terrace, Elektra hid, attempting to rest while Tyler sought her out. In her retreat, she found fabric colored with red. Taking them, she made a makeshift hand band, keeping her hair out of her face as Tyler kept searching for her.
"Hiding doesn't suit you, Black Sky," Tyler mocked, attempting to draw her out of hiding while pulling away at the laundry hanging in the air. "But that's what you've been doing for all these years... Hiding away while the world kept turning. And to think, all this for one stupid, foolish man..!"
A sai cut her ankle, making Tyler scream as Elektra cut her again by the thigh, lowering her stance. Tyler struck back, at nothing. Elektra disappeared and vanished without a trace.
"He wasn't just any man..." Elektra spoke openly, letting Tyler hear her voice as it traveled through the wind. "Not to me."
Elektra struck again, throwing a towel at Tyler's face. She took advantage, punching her in the stomach, and slashing her left arm, making it bleed. Tyler pulled the towel out of her face, only to find Elektra missing again.
"It's like you said... I used to be the Black Sky," Elektra spoke again while Tyler bled out. "So you should have known by now that you never stood a chance."
A sai stabbed her right in the foot, making Tyler scream as it plunged deep into the ground, trapping her where she stood. Elektra showed up, showing no mercy as she beat Tyler down. Tyler swung back at her, but Elektra grabbed the arm that held the other sai, bending it backward, snapping it to the point a bone would show, making her drop the other sai. Elektra caught the other sai, and after elbowing Tyler in the face, she pulled her in to plunge the sai deep into her chest. Tyler coughed out blood, fearing for her life. Fearing her as Elektra looked at her, seeing Tyler's eyes filled with such fear.
"Don't worry... Death's not too bad," Elektra told Tyler, coldly, but with calm reassurance as she whispered into her ear. "I should know... I died once."
Elektra pulled out, letting Tyler bleed as she fell. She bent a knee, and pulled out the other sai, seeing her blades dripped with blood that hadn't been soaked in years.
"Is it her?"
"Yeah... Tyler Rosewood. The alleged assassin who worked for the alleged Assassin's Guild," A government agent spoke as Tyler's body was being examined as part of an autopsy. "She was spotted coming to this clinic with the explicit intent to kill until her body was found on the roof. Whoever killed her was damn good at taking her out."
"She was going to kill me," Doctor Sadik said to the agent, rubbing his arms as he were a witness to the attack. "I wouldn't be alive if it wasn't for one of my patients."
"...You've run this clinic for a few short years now," The Agent spoke, talking to Sadik. "Any enemies of yours that you've crossed paths with? Perhaps someone who has animosity toward you?"
"No, no, I wasn't the intended target," Sadik clarified. "This woman; she was after the patient that saved me."
"And this patient of yours, she was a Jane Doe, was she?" The Agent questioned. "It's come to my understanding that she had recently awoken from her coma. Has she fully disclosed you her identity? And do you know where we can find her?"
"Elektra?" Doctor Sadik ran up the stairs, seeing Elektra come walking down with her sais. "Are you alright? Who the hell was that?!"
"Nobody you and I never need to worry about anymore," Elektra answered as she walked down the stairs. "I think it's safe to assume I've made a full recovery, yes?"
"...well no, you're bleeding," Sadik noticed the blood spilling from her shirt. "That woman cut you good... Let's walk you downstairs..."
"You've done enough for me," Elektra tells him, politely declining his help. "It's time I healed my wounds."
"...so you're just going to walk away?" Sadik scoffed, hearing Elektra's proclamation. "Just like that?"
"Just like that."
"What do I tell the authorities? Staff downstairs has already called 911..."
"Tell them..." Elektra narrowed her eyes, thinking about a Man Without Fear. "...tell them that a good samaritan put a stop to her. And if the police want to come and find me, well... They're welcome to try."
She walked away, leaving Sadik alone as she moved on to walk her own path.
"...I wouldn't know where to find her... She didn't say," Sadik answered honestly without fully disclosing her name. "But she's not a bad person. If anything, she's a force of nature that is a counteractor of all the bad that comes her way."
"...Did she tell you who she was?" The Agent asked him as Sadik smiled softly at the question.
"...A good samaritan."
Later...
Elektra stood on top of a rooftop, looking over the city landscape around her as she held her sais low, standing on top of a gargoyle while keeping her red headband on and wearing a new outfit that matched her red headband, with new arm wraps wrapped around her black sleeves. Among them was a red top that matched the red outline of her boots, the wraps around her legs, and the bandana she wore around her face. Standing tall and ready to do good, to forge her own path outside of being a soldier of the Chaste or the Hand. To try and do the good that Matthew believed she was capable of.
To remind herself what living feels like.
For those who are wondering whether or not the villain of this story was some random OC that was invented to help with Elektra's plotline, worry not! The character of Tyler is one you see in the final episode of Daredevil Season 2 when Karen Page was kidnapped along with 19 others that Daredevil himself saved before his climactic final fight with Nobu.
Anyway, I'm gonna start writing the final episode of Wolverine now, so if you all wanna have Elodie Yung to return as Elektra in the MCU, please say so!
