After several weeks, finally here is the chapter. Due to certain circumstances beyond our control, we took longer with this chapter than we expected. But here it is.

Like the previous chapter, this chapter also takes place during the events of the series, after the episode "Impact" and before the episode "Badge".

Chapter 2: The next morning

Another morning in NewTech City, the sun had risen and the inhabitants of the city had begun to do their daily tasks in the hope that this would be a day when the Troobians would not try to attack the city.

Although at least they had this much of a reassurance, that with the help of the SPD, everyone would be safe, the hope that peace would come in the near future, where they would no longer have to worry about being the main target of attacks from enemies who had already destroyed many other planets, including those of the extraterrestrial inhabitants that inhabited the city for several years, still remained.

At the SPD base, most of those who worked there had already woken up, had bathed and were now having breakfast. That included Jack, Sky, Bridge, Z, and Syd, the B-Squad as they sat on the cafeteria table together.

Despite what happened the day before when they had thought Jack would lose his life, today they acted as if nothing had happened. A result of the dangers that the five of them faced daily, they had already gotten used to the lifestyle. Though yes, like all the inhabitants of the city they hoped that the final battle against the Troobians was near, since they needed some free time to rest and relax.

However, Doggie and Kat were still asleep in Kat Manx's bedroom. It was 8:00 AM already, and it was strange how they slept so much, as both usually woke up at 7:00 AM, having overslept an hour too long already.

Although considering what they did the night before and how exhausted they were when they finished, it was not surprising that they were still resting. And they were both still holding each other. Apparently while they slept, both (unconsciously) liked being in that position, that in the end they stayed like this throughout the night.

Doggie was the first to wake up, but he didn't open his eyes right away, since he was waiting to regain all senses first. He felt different from every other morning, waking up, feeling relaxed as he had not been in years... The last he remembered feeling like this was way back when he was on Sirius on the day of the battle… That battle… The one where, unfortunately, he was the last survivor…

That morning had been quiet, peaceful, the calm before the storm, and the Sirian hadn't experienced that quiet since. At noon, it had all gone down.

As the minutes passed he realized that he was not alone and a head was resting on his chest. On top of that, he realized he was completely naked, but wrapped up to the waist. For a moment he thought this was a dream and that the head on his chest was that of her late wife Isinia, but then he noted that it was smaller than hers. When he slowly opened his eyes he realized that he was not in his own room, and when he looked down, the truth dawned, and he saw that the person who was lying with him was Kat, also stark naked.

That was when he remembered what they did the night before.

Doggie got up carefully so as not to wake Kat and put her head on the pillow, while he sat on the bed, still wrapped up to the waist hiding his lower nakedness under the covers. He remembered the reason they were together last night, it was to save their respective species from extinction by being both compatible to mate. Although he could remember that part of the experience that he lived was something that he would never forget.

To tell the truth, it felt good to have sex after a long time, although he never believed that he would experience it with Kat, with whom he had all those years he had a simple, and platonic relationship. He just hoped that she too felt good after her first time and that she did not regret what she did last night, since there would be no going back to any of this. Things were going to get more complicated after this.

He stayed still, thinking for a while, before suddenly realising, he was late to start the day, but he didn't think it was polite to wake up Kat, so he decided to let her sleep for as long as she wanted. He got out of bed carefully, and walked around it to find his clothes, they were on the opposite side of the bed. He took the boxers first and put them on, covering his private parts again. Then he took the pants and belt and put them on too. Finishing buckling his belt, he heard a sound behind him and turned around.

"Oh, Kat, you're awake… Did I wake you up?" The Sirian didn't know what else to say, not after the experience he had with her the night before, as he didn't want to make her feel uncomfortable.

"No, it wasn't you. I'm not sleepy anymore" she said, trying to get up, but feeling herself still nude, she was careful not to reveal her breasts.

"Oh well, it's a little late now, so we better to hurry to start our day, otherwise some cadet may suspect ... well ... you know" he said a little blushing.

"Oh... Yes. You're right" she said a little blushing.

"Well, I'll go to my room to take a bath and change my clothes. You should do the same after I leave" said the Sirian, taking the upper part of his uniform and putting it on, buttoning it one by one, fastening the belt of this part of the uniform.

"Yes I agree. I feel like today will be a long day."

Finally Doggie put on the gloves, and he walked to the door saying "Oh, and one more thing. If it turns out that you did not get pregnant from the night before, we could try again and as many times as necessary until it works ".

After that he opened the door, made sure there was no one around, and he quickly left, closing the door behind him.

"Did I really hear what he said?" Kat thought to herself. "He would be willing to try other times until I got pregnant?"

It wasn't that she complained about it or anything, but it showed that Doggie really wanted to save his own species as much as she did, and that was to be admired... And as they had already tried the night before and Kat had learned from Doggie how to do this, she no longer had to be shy about this issue again.

After that, Ferian got out of bed, she picked up the clothes that she had used the day before from the floor and threw them into the hamper. She then took a towel that was in a drawer and went to take a bath.

By fate, Doggie and Kat were in sync, as they took a bath (each in their own bathroom) at the same time… They were there the same amount of time and left at the same time. At the same time, each one looked for clean clothes, they dressed and would leave their respective rooms to go to breakfast and then start working. All in parallels...

Kat also suddenly remembered to turn on the security cameras near her room that they had turned off the night before.

"... It's just wrong… I mean they're CO WORKERS!" Kat overheard only a couple of words, but they were enough to wash away whatever residue of sleep that had remained, from her mind.

Her extra sensitive ears had picked up the words from a conversation outside, in the hallway, the voice she recognised to be that of Sky Tate.

"I agree" came a feminine voice, probably that of Z Delgado, the yellow ranger, "it's gonna complicate everything I mean, come on… relationships? At the workplace?!"

"I know, but they're adults, they can handle it" Jack Landors's heavy voice ringed next, and Kat, wondering if her and Doggie's previous night's escapades had somehow been found out, got off her chair in the lab, from the robotic finger missile she had been working on, and placed her ear next to the wall, to listen closely, intrigued.

"I'm just saying. If you're sleeping with someone, you should be serious about them. Casual hook-ups can lead to wayyy too many complications"

"Yeah, I mean what if… what if she developes feelings for him? Then what?" Kat's attention was diverted from the conversation at that very moment, as she suddenly realised the finger missile was starting to smoke.

She rushed over to it, to check what had gone wrong, and then scowled to realise someone had spilled orange soda over it.

"BOOM!" she growled and Boom emerged from underneath the table, his hair smoking with the finger missiles, his face blackened with soot.

"I was gone for One Minute" Boom grinned nervously, but then Kat also broke into a small smile, after all, Boom was only a kid, an apprentice. "Now help me get this fixed" she said, sternly, or at least pretending to be. A little thankful, for a distraction, because listening to the three B-Squad cadets talking had given her a bit of anxiety.

Had they been found out? As she typed in the programming of the weapons, so as to connect them to the megazords, the more firepower for them, the better, her mind was somewhere else, of course. Were things going to get more complicated between her and Doggie? Were they going to have to face trouble? She and Doggie had been platonically friends, and companions for so long, it was almost hard to believe, what they had done the previous night, and realising that their lives will never be the same again. If they had had a child, they would both have to take care of him, or her, together, because of course, he/her would carry both of their genes, and both of them were desperate to save their respective species, they would obviously raise the child together, giving them the love from both their parents. And for obvious reasons, they were not romantically involved, they probably would never be, they were friends, and not in a serious relationship.

And what if Doggie developed feelings for her, and she did not reciprocate? Things would be so much difficult…. And what would everyone else say?!

She and Cruger were two of the most senior officers here, at the SPD base, very respected, and well known. Any gossip regarding an affair between them would spread like wildfire. There was no affair, but the gossiping tongues wouldn't care about that, they would simply see that Doggie and Kat had sex together, and would form all sorts of rumors regarding their relationships.

And how had the news even gotten out?! Had someone seen Doggie coming into her room, or going out? The CCTV camera had been shut, the footages erased, so that meant that there was no way for anyone to have seen it through them, but the prospect that someone had seen them together, actually, was still shining.

Kat felt a headache coming, from all the stress and tension, and placing her programming on hold, she leaned her head against the back of the wall, closing her eyes, she hoped for some clarity.

Commander Anubis 'Doggie' Cruger was flipping through the files of the previous cases, looking for more information about the Troobians that they could use to plot out their new attack, and prevent that of their enemies, when he heard, from his extra-sensory hearing, a faint sound of two people talking.

It was Cadets Landors and Drew, and their conversation was nothing of interest to him, until he heard three words clearly, "But he's married…" Drew chirped, confusion apparent in her voice.

"Yeah, but his wife died, did she not?"

"Yes, yes she did." Syd agreed.

"So, if his wife died, that basically gives him a free pass to any other woman. It will technically not be cheating" Landors defended, but Cruger felt it odd, what were they talking about? Were they talking about him and Isinia?

"But if he truly loved her, he would respect her memory, and not sleep with another woman. He should be faithful to the memory of his wife, and what they used to be, when they were together."

"I still think being married is the least of their concerns. My problem is, as Sky very correctly said, they can't leave it on such a casual note! What if, what if she gets pregnant? What if she develops feelings for her?! Has he even considered that?!"

Syd hmmed, "you know what, Jack, you do have a point, that IS a bigger problem…"

Doggie had heard enough to feel that they were almost definitely talking about him and Kat. Somehow, word had gotten out, and they all knew that Doggie and Kat had spent the night together, in bed, and had in fact, mated, and it was giving rise to all sorts of rumors about the two of them having an affair. It was not a good thing. He and Kat were supposed to be the role models for these children. If they were involved in casual relationships like this, who was to say what they would learn from them. Maybe thy would also not take their relationships seriously.

And moreover, they had a point, Doggie had in fact betrayed the memory of his wife, and a part of him told him it was okay, because he had not partaken into the sexual acts simply for the physical pleasure of it, rather, he and Kat had both done it to save their respective species. How can these human teenagers understand that? They don't face the extinction of their species.

And Doggie was not casual. He had meant it when he said he'd do anything to save their species, even if it meant trying again and again, and they would raise the child together. He would take care of Kat, and the baby, without being romantically inclined towards her. It was certainly a complicated situation, but of course, they'd work through it. Their friendship could overcome all sorts of challenges.

But the real problem, right now, was what the others were saying about them, the wagging tongues spinning lies, and judgements about what they had done…

"Doggie!" Kat's voice jolted him out of his thoughts, and he turned around to see her standing there, red in the face.

"Doggie there is a problem" she said, and that made Doggie feel anxious.

"What happened, Kat, is everything okay?" he rushed to help her, and placed his hand caringly on her shoulder, asking softly, "are you okay?"

"I'm fine," she said, worry clouding her eyes, "but we have a problem… I think someone saw us the other night…"

Doggie felt as if a punch had been delivered to his gut, "what? Why" his worst fears getting confirmed.

"I heard Sky, Z and Jack talking… they were saying something about co-workers sleeping together, but keeping it casual, and something that I can't remember"

"I heard Syd and Jack talking right now, they were talking about it too," Doggie concurred, and Kat also returned the look of anxiety.

"What now?"

"Let's listen to their conversation a bit more"

And so the two pressed their ears against the wall again, so they could hear better, and realised Bridge was just joining into the conversation, "Whatcha talking about, guys? I mean guy and girl, I mean Syd and Jack, but not respectively, of course, because Jack's the guy and Syd's the girl, wait why do they use 'hi guys' even when the guy is actually a girl, but no, wait not the way it came out, the guy is not actually a girl—"

"BRIDGE WE GET IT" Both Syd and Jack almost yelled in unison, and Bridge shut up, "so what were you talking about?" he asked meekly, hoping he wouldn't get yelled at again.

"Remember that Russian Soap Opera we were all watching last night? 'Sixteen Nights in Moscow?' I was just telling Jack that it was so completely WRONG of Vladimir to sleep with Natalya TWO DAYS AFTER his wife, Inessa died!"

"And Sky also says that they're co workers, so that would complicate things all the more for them!" Jack added, and Syd laughed.

"I can't wait to watch the next episode tonight!" Bridge added, "I read in the newspaper, that Stepan would also find out what Vladimir and Natalya did! And something tells me, well a lot of things tell me, that he would not approve. I mean it is just a theory, a lot of things CAN happen, he might start shipping them, or he might be hurt because he loves Natalya, but I just don't think he'd like the idea of Vladimir and Natal—"

"BRIDGE!" Syd and Jack cut Bridge's rant off in the middle again, and the entire hallway was filled with laughs as Sky and Z also came, and joined into the conversation.

Meanwhile, Kat and Cruger seemed to breathe a sigh of relief. How paranoid had they been. To think that the B-Squad would be talking about them, of all people, and they had been so perfectly immaculate in covering up their tracks, they felt a little more peaceful, knowing that no one, indeed, had seen the two of them together the previous night.

"We're safe" Kat said, looking at Cruger, and he smiled back, "yes, yes Kat, we are."
