The day of the funeral was a hot one. Lucy thought it fitting to bury Natsu in the heat that could never rival his flames. The guild crowded at the burial site to say goodbye to their comrades, their family and loved ones. Laxus walked to the front of the crowd to give the eulogy.

"This is a day I never thought I would see so soon. This is a day I never thought I would see."

Laxus paused and scanned the crowd. He saw his family holding each other and their little ones. Some were stoic and the anchors for the others that couldn't keep the tears at bay. His eyes finally landed on Lucy and her twins. Her head was tilted back to soak in the rays from the sun. A sad smile adorned her face as she held her children's hands. The sunlight made her hair shine even more golden.

Laxus took a deep breath before continuing. "It's ok to be sad. We lost our family. But like our family, we'll continue to move forward and smile. Natsu always had a smile on his face. He was one of the happiest people I ever knew and I know that if he were here now, he would be the first one to start a brawl calling Gray an Ice Stripper. Vijeeter was always the first one on the dance floor and getting the party started. The garden around the guild will always be a testament to Droy and all of his hard work. We can look upon that every day and smile knowing these men will forever be in our hearts and minds. So start a daily brawl. Dance like no one is watching. Stop and smell the roses. And know this. We're not saying goodbye. We will see them every day in how we live our lives. For we are Fairy Tail."

A few chuckles were heard throughout the crowd. Several people started to smile while remembering the three men. Lucy had finally looked at Laxus during the eulogy with silent tears streaming down her face. She wrapped her arms around Layla and Igneel to bring them into side hugs as the crowd started to disperse. When they were the only ones left along with the slayers and their families, Lucy and her kids walked up to Natsu's headstone and placed her hands upon it before speaking.

"I will never forget that day in Hargeon. You were impressive from the very beginning. Thank you for taking my hand and giving me a family multiple times. I know that the heat from the sun will never compare to your flames but I will take solace in it and know that it's you smiling down on us. Say hi to my mom and dad. Try not to give them too many headaches. I know that they'll just love you like we do. Watch over us. And know that I'll always love you."

Lucy sniffled and stood up. Layla and Igneel stated that they both loved their father and made their way to stand beside Lucy. Cobra listened to the melancholy orchestra in their souls. Lucy's was the conductor to Layla and Igneel's souls and all three were in perfect mourning harmony. He walked up to her for an embrace. Cobra wrapped his arms around her and nuzzled her hair.

"You know that if there is anything that you or the hatchlings need, anything at all and at any time of the day, I'll hear it and make sure that someone helps. May not always be me because let's face it, I'm a lazy asshole." Cobra smirked and Lucy let out a small giggle. He reached out and hugged Layla and Igneel at the same time. They both had been fighting the tears but as soon as they were in his embrace, the flood gates were released. He nuzzled both of their heads while whispering that he understood and that he would always be there for them. Cobra pulled back to look at them.

"We all know that your dad made me want to poison him every second of every day." Layla and Igneel both giggled while nodding their heads. "But know this. I admired your dad. He was strong and loved all three of you fiercely. Your dad was so proud of you two. When Lucy first told him that he was going to be a dad, it was the only time he fainted. Then he bounced right back up, spun her around, and started a brawl with your uncle stripper. He couldn't wait to be a dad. You two were his pride and joys. Know that he'll continue to watch over you and guide you. He loved you more than anything on Earthland."

"Even mom?" Igneel asked.

Cobra smirked. "Depended on the day and if he received a Lucy Kick."

"I never gave him a kick that he didn't deserve." This made the whole group chuckle and a few of the slayers cringe at the same time knowing how those kicks felt.

"If you kids need anything, reach out to anyone. Your entire clan is here for you and no one wants you to suffer alone. I won't let you. Again, I'll send someone because I'm lazy."

"Thanks Uncle Cobra," the twins stated together. The three embraced one last time before they all started to walk towards the guild. All of the kids take the lead. Silver Fullbuster throws his arm around Layla's shoulders and she leans her head on his shoulder. Igneel takes Cobra's youngest in his arms to cuddle. He nuzzles her cheek while she giggles at the attention. The slayers and their mates slowly follow behind. Laxus lags in the back with his hands in his pockets. He calls out to Lucy in hopes that she'll hang back a little bit so he can speak with her in some semblance of privacy. Everyone knows there is no such thing as full privacy with slayers around.

"Lucy." She stops walking and turns her head towards Laxus. "Yes?"

"I know that you've heard it a million times already but I'm really sorry that I wasn't there to save him. I'm sorry that you're going through this suffering. I wish that I could take his place. That way…"

"DON'T SAY THAT!" Lucy shouts cutting Laxus off mid speech. Laxus looks at her wide eyed.

"Don't say that you wish you could take his place. Don't demean your own life like that. You're important too Laxus. Just like everyone else in this guild." Lucy tries to hold back the sobs threatening to bubble up her throat at the thought of losing another important member to herself and the guild.

"I know you're thinking because of Natsu being a father and having a crazy notion that you're somehow not a good enough person. How many times do I have to tell you? Your past actions have long since been atoned. It won't make me or anyone else feel better if he was here and you weren't. Natsu wouldn't have let it happen anyways. And you know that. So get that nonsense out of your head." Lucy states the last four words with a tap to his forehead. Laxus smiles softly down at Lucy and embraces her.

"I'm sorry for saying something so dumb. You're right. I know that he wouldn't have let anyone be in his position. He was crazy stupid like that and we'll all miss him."

Lucy wraps her arms around Laxus and smirks. "Even you?"

"I'll deny it if anyone asks."

Lucy gives out a teary giggle. She pulls back and wipes her eyes. Laxus wraps his arm around her shoulders and leads her to the guild.

"Cobra, why are you smirking?"

"No reason Cu. Just being my usual asshole self."

They all file into the guild for some food and to share memories with everyone.
