Prologue – An Ending

Forbidden Forest

Grounds of Hogwarts

The ancient magical forest towered over Harry Potter as he walked through the Forbidden Forest alone. Behind him was the only real home he had ever known, Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, was little more than ruins now after the epic battle between light and dark forces had shattered the stone walls and its magical defenses of the formidable castle. His friends and allies now licked their wounds and gathered the dead, as they waited with anxious breath for the countdown to the dark forces next attack.

An attack that Harry now hoped to prevent for in front of him lay an army of some of the darkest wizard's and witches in modern magical memory. These, Death Eaters, as they called themselves, together with their creature allies, had pledged their loyalty and life to a dark lord, so vile that he had escaped death's grasp once before by using the foulest of magical rituals to shred his soul into pieces and bind them to vessels on the mortal plane. Harry and his friends, Hermione, and Ron had spent the last year hunting these vessels so that they may destroy them all and they had nearly succeeded in their mission.

Now only two vessels remained, Nagini, an enormous snake, that had bonded to Voldemort to become his beloved familiar. Harry had made his friends Ron, Hermione and Neville swear that they would kill the snake with the promise that after the snake was dead and if by some chance Harry failed to take Voldemort with him in battle, then they would see to it that one of them or all three of them would end Voldemort for good. With their promises made, Harry had given them a sobering look as he promised that he would see to it that the last horcrux was destroyed himself.

Flashback

His friends had wanted to come with him, siting that he shouldn't take on the task alone, but Harry had stoically admitted "that only I can see to it that this last horcrux is destroyed permanently."

Hermione had tearfully hugged and whispered in his ear "It's you, aren't it? You're the final horcrux, aren't you?"

Harry squeezed her to him tightly and whispered "Yes, I am, and Dumbledore knew all the time. It's the memory that Snape left me. Dumbledore was always preparing me for the ultimate sacrifice."

Hermione hugged him more fiercely and cried harder at his admission. "Please, Hermione…please promise me that you will find happiness."

Harry felt a few more tears splash his shirt as she nodded. "I will, Harry, I promise."

With the promise made Hermione withdrew, reluctantly, from Harry's embrace. "I need to be going, the deadline will be upon us soon." Harry said as he shook Neville and Ron's hand one last time before turning and walking towards his last stand.

End Flashback

The hour deadline that Voldemort had given his enemies to decide their fate and now hat hour was almost up. Harry's memories of the last seven years flashed through his minds eye. The happy times spent with Ron and Hermione wondering the halls of the wonderous castle and playing quidditch were mixed with the bittersweet memories of those he had lost, either by cruel hands of fate, like Sirius, Remus, Tonks, and Fred or by his own decision like his first real girlfriend Ginny Weasley. When he had decided at the end of his sixth year to break up with her. He had wanted to spare her from being a target for the death eaters. Harry hated himself for leading her on, but he had come to find that he didn't truly love her; at least not in the Earth-shattering true love, soulmates, type of love that his Aunt Petunia's romance novels talked about.

Harry came to a stop as he heard noises on the path ahead of him. In a clearing, just ahead of him, Harry spied Voldemort with his army of death eaters. Towering over the heads of the dark wizard's, Harry spotted his first magical friend, Hagrid, chained to a tree. The gentle man's clothes were torn and tattered from battle as he stood amongst the dark lord's army.

The amount of dark magic in the night air was electrified making Harry's hair stand on end and making it hard to breathe with the heavy smell of foul ozone that Harry could almost taste as it filled his nostrils. Slowly, Harry made his way closer to the clearing's edge. Stealing his resolve, Harry straightened his back and squared his shoulders as he stepped into the clearing.

Hagrid was the first to see him as the half-giant's widened in shock and fear for his young friend.

"Harry, wha' are you doing here?" Hagrid asked in disbelief. "You gotta get out a here! Hurry, go, run!" he hurriedly stated, but it was too late, all eyes were on him.

Harry tore his gaze from Hagrid to find the blood red eyes of the dark lord Voldemort. The imposing figure in long black robes turned to face his young adversary. His thin lips stretched into a cruel smile as the two slits in his pale face flared in a noisy inhalation of breath. "Harry Potter has come to die" Voldemort's raspy voice hissed.

Standing with back straight and his head held high as he spoke "I'm in no mood for a lecture Tom." He readied his wand in his hand "If you're going to try and kill me again then I suggest you just get it over with quickly."

The dark lord's nostrils flared in anger at the audacity of the young wizard. "Very well, Potter," he hissed as his that held the borrowed wand raised quickly and with a sure movement of wand, Voldemort hissed, "AVADA KEDAVRA!"

Harry watched as the sickly green curse flew towards him in what he perceived as slow motion. The sound of his breathing sounding harshly in his ears as his heartbeat quickened to the point that he feared his heart would explode from his chest. With a split-second decision and a last show of defiance, Harry gathered his all the magic within him and forced it into his wand as he raised the wand, he fired off a series of unspoken three spells in rapid succession.

The feeling of the spells leaving his wands caused an intense burning within his veins and coursing over his skin, almost like being struck by lightning. He watched as gold bolts of lightning danced across his fingertips and through his wands causing cracks to form in the wooden shaft. The cracks grew as the glowed a bright white gold in color before his eyes.

As this happened his gaze was drawn to the sickly green killing curse as seemed to finally grow closer to hitting him. As the killing curse collided with his chest, Harry, noticed his wand explode in an array of white gold burning splinters. The force of the explosion knocked Harry backwards into a tree where his body slumped to the ground unconscious.

The sound of the Hagrid's anguished yell of "Noooo, Harry!" the last thing he ever heard.

Point of View Change

Narcissa Malfoy watched the bravery shown by young Mr. Potter with surprising disappear. The mother in her filled with both pride and sadness for what the cruel hands of fate had forced her secret childhood friend, Lily. Now she was forced to watch Lily's son would have to face his own twisted destiny. The Malfoy matriarch had been forced to watch from afar as Lily's son faced the cold and unforgiving world.

Each time her son's owl would deliver a new letter she would eagerly read them for any mention of her dear friends' son. She had encouraged Draco to befriend the boy during his first year, in the hopes, being of some help to him as he grew into remarkable young wizard. Of course, she had hidden the true motives from Lucius, hiding the truth with easily concealed lies about the opportunity to restore the Malfoy family name and legacy to its previous good standings within their isolated community. Lucius, of course, agreed for his own nefarious reasons. The Malfoy patriarch believing that he, alone, would be greatly rewarded for delivering the Potter boy to his lord upon Voldemort's return.

However, her dear son, had still been entranced by his father and his father's mannerisms and so had offended Harry upon their first meeting. Sadly, it would set the tone for the rivalry between the two boys for the coming school years. A tear fell from her eye's unseen by anyone else as she watched in horror as the green curse flew from the dark lord's wand.

Narcissa felt a powerful surge of magic fill the air with electrified ozone based on pure power alone. She watched as Lily's son raised his wand, the tip glowing bright white tinged with gold. In rapid succession she watched as three gold spells flew from the young wizards' wands with such force that splintering cracks erupted along the wands shaft.

She watched in rapt attention, her eyes focused on Harry, as she heard a cry of mad anguish leave her sisters throat at the sight of the spells impacting her precious dark lord. From the corner of her eye, she watched the power behind the spells collide with Voldemort's sending the dark lord hurling backwards with such force that he bowled down several of his death eaters who were happening to stand behind him before impacting a tree causing a loud crack to fill the air as the tree broke but didn't not fall from the impact.

Narcissa stumbled to where Harry had come to rest under a tree. His body appearing to be broken and lifeless. Stumbling to her knees in front of the boy she listened to the commotion as Voldemort pushed Bellatrix off him as he stood.

With a trembling hand raised, she felt for a pulse. Her hand felt cool against the burning body of the young wizard as it searched for any sign of life. She prayed to every deity she could think off that the boy lived, but her heart leapt in her throat with relief as she felt a weak pulse under her fingertips.

"Is he dead?" the hissing voice of the dark lord queried.

Narcissa knew what she must do to save her son and possibly herself too. She bowed her head; tears fell unseen from her eyes before she hastily brushed them away with one hand while resting the other hand over the boy's heart. Her eyes widened in surprise as she witnessed a gold bolt of lightning zap her hand. She withdrew her hand as she watched more small arcs of gold lightening race over Harry's fallen body.

She stumbled away from the body as the number and strength of the gold lightening grew as it traveled over the fallen hero. More bolts of gold lightening lit up the air around them as the bolts jumped from tree to tree in a choreographed dance before filling the sky. Suddenly, several bolts of multi-colored lightening swirled around the fallen body of the wizarding worlds hero, the intense bright flashes of light caused by the lightening temporarily blinded the assembled group.

When the bright light died down and the spots disappeared from everyone's eyes. The stunned crowd looked to find that the body of the fallen boy hero was gone. The angry cry "Noooo" erupted from Voldemort as he seethed in rage and concealed pain.

Bellatrix touched him to try and steady him as she had seen him stumble. Voldemort shrugged off her help as he glared at the Malfoy matriarch "Tell me was he dead, Narcissa?" he hissed.

Narcissa squared her shoulders as she looked the vile wizard in the eye and suppressed a shudder while fortifying her mental defenses. "Yes," she answered with what she knew to be a lie.

Voldemort's thin lips spread into a triumphant grin. He turned to his followers "you all have witnessed the might of your lord tonight. Nothing, "her hissed "and no one is able to stop me."

"What about the body disappearing?" Voldemort turned to find the wizard who had dare to question him.

"You dare to question my power?" he stalked toward the fearful wizard.

The wizard shook his head as he stuttered "No – No, mi'lord, bu-but people will ask for proof of the boy's death and without a body to produce…"

"Crucio!" The wizard collapsed to the ground writhing in pain.

A few seconds into the spell, Voldemort, felt an intense wave of painful fatigue soon overtook Voldemort as he dropped the spell allowing the man to recover. Bellatrix was quick to support her master as her violet eyes filled with concern.

Shrugging the witch away, once more, "Be grateful I am feeling generous" Voldemort hissed at the sniveling wizard.

Squaring his shoulders and suppressing the pain, he hissed, "Next time I won't be as tolerant."

The wizard backed away from Voldemort being mindful of keeping a submissive stance. "Though you have brought up an excellent point" he thoughtfully petted his snake familiar as he spoke. "The traitors would continue to fight if they believed their hero is alive and that he will return."

He continued to stroke Nagina's head. "Perhaps it would be best if they believed that I burned his body to ash after I killed him in our duel. Yes, that will be the only story that the traitors hear."

A resounding chorus of "yes, mi'lord" sounded in the clearing.

A cruel but triumphant smile marred Voldemort's lips. "Come now, we have a war to win." He hissed in glee as his troops followed him toward the castle grounds.

A quick flick of his wand saw silencing spell fly towards the half-giant. "Need to make sure he keeps quiet until I can properly dispose of the half-breed along with the rest of the traitors."

Scene Change

The final hours of the Battle of Hogwarts saw the crushing defeat of Voldemort and his forces by the Order of the Phoenix and an army of volunteers, mainly former and current students of Hogwarts with the surprising addition of both Narcissa and Draco Malfoy. After Voldemort announced the death of Harry Potter to the assembled l defenders of the castle's moral sank to a new low. Surrender was on each of their minds and would have happened if one person hadn't have stepped forward.

To everyone's surprise, Neville Longbottom, hobbled forward to defy Voldemort and his followers. It was his bravery and swift actions (with the help of Fawkes and the Sorting Hat that the phoenix cheerfully dropped before the weary young wizard) that saved the day. You see, Neville spotted something shiny within the hat, as he grasped the shimmering object, he pulled the Sword of Gryffindor from within the hat.

A shout of warning rang out from within the light forces ranks, thanks to Hermione, saw Neville swing into action; literally as he swung the sword in an arc as it easily sliced through the body of a massive snake. Nagini had been poised to strike the young wizard, intent on inflicting its lethal venom on the boy. Though with a swing of the legendary sword Neville decapitated the snake.

Voldemort let out a mighty yell of anger at the loss of his beloved familiar. At the same time, Neville let out a yell "Get Voldemort, he's mortal now! We can kill him for good!"

An intense sense of dread filled the dark lord for the first time since he was a child witnessing the death and destruction that rained down on London during the Blitz. His heart pounded as he tried to find his emergency portkey, but he sensed the magical barriers hastily erected against escaping via portkey and apparition. The dark lord tried anyway apparated away from the fight but was bounced off the wards causing to rematerialize by impacting the hard stone ground.

He tried to stand but was hit by an intense wave of dizzying weakness fell over him. He felt his feet be splashed with something warm and he looked down to see red liquid pooling around him. It was then that he feared that Potter had managed to do actual damage to him in the forest. Feeling around in his robes, his hand contacted a warm sticky substance, he hissed in pain as his cold hand contacted a large gash across his torso. Is mind flashed to the forest as the spells impacted him 'a cutting curse, weakening hex, and deterioration hex - that is what Potter hit me with – the effects must have somehow been delayed, until now. Curse you Potter wherever you are.'

Bellatrix with the help of her husband and both brothers-in-law were busy defending her master from multiple members of the Order of the Phoenix including Ron, Hermione, and Neville. An angry cry escaped her when Narcissa and Draco joined the fight against them. Working together the group of heroes took out each Death Eater, one by one.

Bellatrix looked behind her, searching for her master, but let out a mournful cry as she saw he had dropped to the ground and a large pool of blood was forming under him. "Noooo, mi'lord," she shouted, losing her concentration she was hit with a fatal curse ending her life.

Seeing his most loyal dead and knowing it was the end, he mustered the last of his reserve strength to cast one final spell to try and save himself. Only to be struck down by multiple spells at once. One of the spells included sliced through neck decapitating him and sent his head rolling along the debris covered ground.
