So, first off, happy new year, folks. 2022 is upon us and… we'll see how it goes. Trying to be optimistic, but we'll see how it goes.

For those unaware, I recently had some issues with my keyboard and haven't been able to type anything. The A, S, D, F, J, K, L, semicolon, and enter buttons all stopped working. It pretty much derailed the few plans I had for the end of last year. I apologize for this unexpected issue that cropped up. However, now, I have an external keyboard to type on and it works smooth as butter. It's time to go ahead and write stories again!

Now, let's talk about this project for a bit. Yu-Gi-Oh Sevens is going to be ending this year and be replaced by Go Rush, which will make Sevens the shortest Yu-Gi-Oh anime depending on how many episodes are left. And while it has paid homage to the other shows and stuff for the anime's 20th, I think you could do some more with it. Plus, there aren't many stories based on Sevens specifically. That and, I'll admit, I honestly think Rush Duels are more fun to write than regular Duels. Not sure why.

So, welcome to this AU for Sevens. There'll be a mix of the original Japanese terminology and names as well as the dub ones provided from the Rush Duel video game that came out, as well as some original names that I want to insert as it goes on. Here's hoping we get a Sevens dub at some point. I really enjoyed the cast we got in the Rush Duel video game, with special mention going to Abby Espiritu, who is the English VA for Romin. She nailed the role in an amazing way, and the clip where we see her gushing about being in the game was just so much fun to see.

I will inform you all that there will be some original cards. However, I will be explaining the cards in a chapter at the ending so that you'll be aware of what the cards are. So, bear with me when we get to that.

Something I do feel is an important remark to make is that I've only ever played Duel Links, and while I do own the Rush Duel video game, I've yet to play it. So, my experience with the game is mostly from Duel Links. That certainly bled a little into some of the writing, but that's besides the point.

Well, let's go ahead and get this going.

Disclaimers: Yu-Gi-Oh belongs to Shounen Jump, Yuya Takahashi, etc.

A loud explosion went off and caused debris to fall from the remains of a ruined building. Another blast echoed throughout the destroyed city. A woman's voice gasped as she held her infant son close to herself as she had no way to move. Suddenly, some sort of a silver figure dashed forward and managed to get the rubble out of the way before it could hit them, then something else moved the debris out of the way.

"Hurry!" a male voice yelled out.

The scene distorted as the mother ran as fast as she could, with the baby managing to glance behind her a little to see the man, his father, was in the middle of a duel against some sort of unknown monster. As the monster was about to make a direct attack, the man activated a Quick-Play Spell. The only discernible word to the infant was 'flute'...

A young kid jumped out of bed in shock, bumping his head against an off lamp that was on his nightstand. The young kid, a boy, with messy and wild brown and blonde hair, tried to catch his breath from the nightmare he had. Then the pain from smacking against the light caught up to him, which took his attention away.

"Ow…" he mumbled, rubbing his head in a bit of pain.

"Yuga? Is everything okay?" a woman's voice gently asked from the other side of his door.

"Yeah, mom. Just bumped my head, sorry to worry you," the boy, Yuga, responded.

"Alright. Sleep tight," his mom responded.

Yuga heard his mom step away from the room and then gave off a small exhale as his mind went back through the dream again, "...I'll make sense of it… one day…"

On Our Seventh Road

Chapter 001: Let's Do This, Rush Duel!

It was in the middle of the night, approaching four in the morning, but Yuga hadn't been able to fully go back to bed yet. While he did have some attempts, none of them were successful and he had woken back up at least three separate times. The young boy eventually ended up opening his window and heading into the backyard, which housed a small workshop filled with all kinds of mechanical parts and a functioning desktop, while a Duel Disk lay sprawled on the table.

"Well…" he muttered as he sat down, quickly flipping on a light and then plucking the Duel Disk over. He looked over the shape, it sort of looking like a blade that had five spots for monsters and spells or traps. He brushed his hand along it a little bit and then glanced over to his tool box.

Yuga then stared at his Duel Disk for a bit and considered his plan carefully. The penalty marker on his Duel Disk had four of the six slots filled up.

'Penalty one… accidentally spilling juice and my attempts to wipe it causing it to malfunction. Penalty two, throwing this like a boomerang. Three and four… the Rush Duel installation failures…' Yuga reflected.

He gently drummed his fingers against the backside of it for a moment, thinking about the ideas he had for the new dueling style. As he thought this over, memories of why he started to think about a new way to duel came running back…

Yuga looked over at the kid he was up against, who had two monsters up on his field while Yuga had no monsters and almost no cards in his hand.

"Draw your last pathetic card so that I can end this, Yuga…" the boy spoke as his two monsters stood ready.

(Aleister the Invoker; Lvl: 4; ATK: 1000; DEF: 1800)

(Buster Blader; Lvl: 7; ATK: 2600; DEF: 2300)

Thus, Yuga drew for turn, ending up with Pot of Greed, "I… still have a chance…"

"I activate the Spell Card, Pot of Greed! I draw two cards!" Yuga announced, proceeding to draw Mystic Dealer and Spell Archer, " goes nothing…"

"I summon Mystic Dealer!" he announced, quickly putting the one card onto his field.

(Mystic Dealer; Lvl: 3; ATK: 1000; DEF: 0)

"Now, I activate Mystic Dealer's effect! I send Spell Archer from my hand to the Graveyard to draw one card!" Yuga announced, proceeding to do so, "Deck… please… give me a way out of this…"

Yuga then drew the one card from the top of his deck and smiled upon seeing it was Seventh Road Magician, "Jackpot!"

"No you don't! I activate my Trap Card, Drop Off! You send that card right to your Graveyard!"

"Dangit…" Yuga muttered as he sent his ace card to the Graveyard. He then looked over the field again, 'Not good… just… not good. I might be able to knock out that Invoker and be able to survive Buster Blader's direct attack… but… is that the right move?'

Yuga gave off a shaky breath before looking forward, "...battle! Mystic Dealer, attack Aleister the Invoker!"

"Not so fast! I activate my Trap Card, Fiendish Chain!" the other kid responded, with the card flipping face-up and ensnaring Mystic Dealer in chains, "Your monster is unable to attack!"

"And before you end your turn, I'll activate another Trap Card. DNA Surgery!" the kid announced, with the card flipping face up, "Now, all monsters on the field become what I choose as long as this card is up! I choose… Dragon!"

Yuga watched as the monsters already on the field became more draconic looking, "...turn end."

The other kid drew for turn and then evilly laughed, "You're gone! First, I activate my Quick-Play Spell, Book of Moon in order to set Aleister face-down, and then I flip it face back up! Because this card was flipped face up, I get to add the Spell Card Invocation from my Deck to my hand!"

Yuga just got a bit nervous as the other kid did just that.

"I activate my Spell Card, Invocation! Since I am using Aleister for a Fusion Summon, I can use any other card on the field or in either of our Graveyards to Fusion Summon, banishing a card if it was used from a Graveyard. I'm going to use your Seventh Road Magician as the second material!"

"My Seventh Road!" Yuga paled.

"Fusion Summon! Appear, Invoked Mechaba!"

(Invoked Mechaba; Lvl: 9; ATK: 2500; DEF: 2100)

"Crud…" Yuga muttered.

"And I'm not done yet! I activate Quick-Play Spell, Destruction Swordsman Fusion! I can use Buster Blader and any other monster on either field to Fusion Summon! And I'm using your now dragon Mystic Dealer!"

Yuga's expression only grew worse as his monster vanished.

"Fusion Summon! Strike down your foe, Buster Blader, the Dragon Destroyer Swordsman!"

(Buster Blader, the Dragon Destroyer Swordsman; Lvl: 8; ATK: 2800; DEF: 2500)

"How is this fair…?" Yuga whimpered

"Buster Blader, the Dragon Destroyer Swordsman and Invoked Mechaba! ATTACK HIM DIRECTLY!"

The monster charged forward and effortlessly struck Yuga down, wiping out all of his life points.

"You're a third rate duelist with a tenth rate deck!"

Yuga just laid sprawled on the ground as he ended up drawing the next card from the top of his deck to see what it would've been, plucking out Dark Liberation. He then let out a loud groan at the mess in front of him.

Yuga just exhaled as he looked towards his deck and gently hugged it as another memory came to mind…

Yuga just stared in bafflement and confusion at the field of Aromage monsters that kept his opponent's life points rising higher and higher.

"How am I supposed to even damage you?!" Yuga soon yelled.

"You don't."

Yuga just kept drawing cards as the Aromages kept messing around with life points, until he ended up decking out.

'Why is it this game just has so many people who are opposed to just having fun? It's a card game…' Yuga thought.

"Duel!" Yuga and a teen that was about 14 or 15 announced.

"I'll go first," Yuga spoke as he looked to his opening hand, "I'll set one card facedown and end my turn!"

"You made a big mistake challenging me…" the teen said in an incredibly edgy way as he drew for turn, and then laughed, "You should just surrender and flee like the scrub you are!"

"...I've set one card facedown…" Yuga reminded, motioning to his set monster.

"I activate my Spell Card, Red-Eyes Fusion!" the teen shouted out, "I send Buster Blader from my hand and Red-Eyes Black Dragon from my deck to Fusion Summon forth… Red-Eyes Slash Dragon!"

(Red-Eyes Slash Dragon; Lvl: 7; ATK: 2800; DEF: 2400)

"I now activate Blustering Winds to raise Red-Eyes Slash Dragon's attack points by 1000!"

(Red-Eyes Slash Dragon; ATK: 2800-3800; DEF: 2400-2800)

"And now, I use Piercing! to allow my Red-Eyes Slash Dragon to inflict piercing battle damage!"

"'s turn two…" Yuga spoke.

"And you've wasted enough of my time already! Red-Eyes Slash Dragon, slice through that monster and end this duel!" the teen ordered, with the monster dashing forward, "And at this moment, Red-Eyes Slash Dragon equips my Buster Blader as an Equip Spell!"

(Red-Eyes Slash Dragon; ATK: 3800-6400)

With the added power, Red-Eyes Slash Dragon cleaved through Yuga's set Kuribott like it was nothing and the resulting wave of energy flew right towards Yuga, sending him tumbling back.

(Yuga: 4000-0)

"So many losses…" Yuga mumbled as he set his deck down and then got out some tools, "But… if I can just get past those failures…"

The kid took a moment to wipe away some tears that dripped down as another painful loss replayed in his mind.

Yuga looked at his opponent, who currently had an Xyz Monster on their field with three Overlay Units attached to it, and he had yet to conduct his normal summon for the turn. Yuga glanced down at his hand in order to try to think of a tactic. He then looked at the monster that his opponent controlled.

(Digital Bug Scaradiator; Rank: 3; ATK: 1800; DEF: 1400; OU: 3)

"Here goes nothing…" Yuga muttered as he proceeded to tribute in a monster with more than 1800 attack points, "Battle!"

However, then, the opponent's monster detached two Overlay Units to change the battle position of Yuga's monster. Yuga was forced to end his turn, and then his opponent was able to attack into his monster… only for it to be attached to Scaradiator as an Overlay Unit after the battle phase.

"Rush Duels will allow us all to have fun and not need to worry about how rigid and dumb the Master Rules can be…" Yuga spoke to himself as he looked to his basic sketch about how it would flow and all of the changes to not just card designs, but also to various other aspects, "No need to have a judge to look over rulings, no need for Quick-Play Spells, and as much fun as one can imagine. If I can get this to work… the fun will have just begun…"

He took a deep inhale, then exhaled gently as he proceeded to turn on the desktop and got his tools ready…

About an hour or so had passed before Yuga was in progress of attempting to upload the data for Rush Duel into his Duel Disk's system, "If I can do it once, I can do it again with others who want to participate… just… need to do it once…"

-Warning! Warning!- a robotic voice yelled out before a drone flew nearby Yuga's work area, -A Duel Disk has been illegally opened! You have 6 minutes and 16 second to cease what you are doing before you gain a penalty!-

Yuga just ignored the drone and kept typing away at his keyboard as fast as he possibly could, "Just one upload… just… one…"

The typing just kept going and going as the data was being installed into the Duel Disk's systems, "Here we go…"

-Warning! Warning!-

Yuga just ignored the drone as much as he possibly could, with the progression bar for the upload slowly going up…

"Come on… just a little more…" Yuga muttered as he saw the installation was at 97% and rising… only for an error message to appear and the Duel Disk to shut down, "NO~~~!"

-Penalty! User, Yuga Ohdo. Remaining penalties before account shut down, one.-

Yuga just gripped his head in frustration as the failure stewed in his head and the dangers of the last penalty started to enter his mind. The drone soon flew away, leaving Yuga to stew in his failure for a little while.

Morning arrived and various kids were either walking or being dropped off to school. Yuga sat in the back row of a small car, with his Duel Disk sitting in his book bag, as his mom was driving. His mom had orange hair, blue eyes, and was wearing what looked to be some sort of a suit. She kept her eyes on the road as she brought the car to a stop when a light turned to red.

"Your dad and I are going to be working late tonight, so I hope you'll be able to be okay by yourself for a few hours."

Yuga didn't respond at first, making her turn to see he had fallen asleep at least a little bit. She gently tapped the top of the car, which got him to wake up.

"Huh?" Yuga spoke.

"Yuga, are you ok?" his mom soon asked.

"Sorry… nightmares kept me up last night… I'll power through today," Yuga responded, "So… what were you saying?"

"Your dad and I are going to be working late tonight, so I hope you'll be able to be okay by yourself for a few hours," she repeated.

"Gotcha, gotcha," Yuga nodded.

The car soon arrived at the school and Yuga's mom left. With that, Yuga walked along into the area with a bit of a relaxed smile. However, upon noticing some of the drones floating around, he made sure to keep his posture up as he walked past them to avoid getting the attention of any of them. Once he was a little past them, Yuga quickly fished out his Duel Disk and put it on.

"Good morning, Yug-" a voice began to greet before the same person yelled in shock and disbelief, "FIVE PENALTIES?!"

Yuga nervously turned around to the person who was nearby him. He had purple hair, green eyes, was wearing what looked almost like a light blue jumpsuit, and brown dress shoes.

"Good morning…" Yuga nervously greeted, "Please don't tell my parents…"

"Your priorities are something else, Yuga! Do you realize how much danger you're in?!"

"Yeah, yeah, whatever Gavin…" Yuga responded as he walked forward.

"I've told you many times to call me Gakuto!"

"Sure, whatever, Gavin," Yuga shrugged off.

"What did you even do to get it this time?" Gakuto asked Yuga with a frustrated look.

"An attempt to install new rules, like the last two…" Yuga informed, "I'll figure it out somehow."

" rules?" Gakuto stated with a bit of a blank look on his face.

Yuga simply turned around with a bit of a smile, "Have you ever thought that the Master Rules have made the game too rigid and complex? Have you ever been one turn away from possibly winning? Have you ever just wanted to have more… fun? Well, with Rush Duels, you'd be able to!"

"...Yuga…" Gakuto blinked.

He gave off a small joyful grin as they walked towards Yuga's classroom.

"Yuga, I've seen you duel. Don't you think the problem is that you're just not very good at Duel Monsters?" Gakuto asked Yuga.

Initially, Yuga didn't say anything as he let out a small yawn and got into his desk.

"Yuga, even I've managed to beat you…" Gakuto reminded.

"Cause your ace card has a stupid and annoying effect," Yuga retorted.

Gakuto started to growl a little, but then stepped back and managed to calm down a bit, "...Yuga. You should just give up. You're one penalty away from never being able to duel again."

"No matter what, I'll keep holding on and having hope I can make our precious time into glorious days," Yuga said with a smile.

"...why does that sound like song lyrics…?" Gakuto asked.

"Just something I saw on TV once," Yuga shrugged.

All Gakuto could do was sigh in response to this, as other students started to walk into the classroom. Gakuto saw the time and then looked over to Yuga, "Meet me after classes end today."

With that, Gakuto headed out of the classroom. The Duel Disks of everyone in the classroom soon shut down, soon followed by up a drone floating up to the front of the classroom to begin the lesson.

Yuga just gave off a bored and tired exhale as the history lesson kept, and it went into history. He only half paid attention to what was being said, starting to drift off to sleep as the listen kept going. From what he was able to hear, it was over something recent.

"Either Heartland or the disaster in Domino…" Yuga mumbled as he looked to his history book, which had notes about those events in it. He looked up at the drone as it spoke, trying his best to not doze off.

-The Ener-D reactor ended up imploding on itself and leveling Domino City as a result of the energy output. This incident is better known as Zero Reverse. While it was claimed to have been caused by natural disasters, one surviving scientist from the building where it all happened has told the truth that it was the fault of the company that sponsored the research. The Kaiba Corporation was soon forced into bankruptcy after the disaster, which then resulted in our savior, the first President of the Goha Corporation, swooping in and buying up the remnants of the disastrous company!- the drone spoke, -Ten years have passed since then…-

'Only an idiot or a young child doesn't know that…' Yuga thought as his eyes started to close a bit, with sleep starting to catch up to him. He slowly lowered into his seat as he continued to drift off…

Suddenly, a girl coughed a bit, but it was loud and almost sounded fake. Yuga snapped back awake upon hearing the noise, and the class turned to the student responsible. She had long, flowing, light purple hair, light blue eyes, a black top that exposed her shoulders, a red skirt, long gray stockings, and black shoes.

-Are you okay?- the teacher drone asked.

"Yeah, sorry," the girl apologized.

The drone simply gave a nod before flying back up to the front of the classroom. Yuga glanced towards the girl, who simply gave him a smile in response.

'Thanks… uh… Kassidy, was it?'

Classes continued on for a while before the kids ended up in math class. Yuga just gave off a small sigh as he started to rummage through his bag for his math textbook, only to realize something as he kept looking through it.

"Crud… I forgot the textbook at home…" Yuga muttered as he paled in worry.

The girl from earlier noticed Yuga's look of worry, then scooted her desk over a little so she was closer to him. She then opened up her own textbook, giving a quick motion to the board and then the textbook.

"You're a lifesaver…" Yuga smiled, "Uh… Kassidy, right?"

"...Kirishima's my last name…" the girl responded.

-Why are you talking during this lesson? And why are you sharing a book?- a drone quickly questioned, having noticed the two.

"Oh, I forgot my book at home and Yuga offered to share his. That alright?" the girl quickly lied.

The drone simply stared at the two for a moment to try to pick up on if there was a lie, yet wasn't able to pick up on it. -First offense in forgetting books, Miss Kirishima. Two more times, and it will be a penalty. Carry on. You are let off with a warning.-

With that, the drone flew up to the front of the class to continue the lesson.

"Nice save…" Yuga whispered, "I'm Yuga, by the way. Yuga Ohdo."

"Romin Kirishima. Nice to meet you," Romin whispered back.

The two quickly turned their attention to the lesson as the drone ended up going over a bunch of mathematics and other such topics. Yuga occasionally started to drift off towards sleep, but a quick nudge from Romin managed to get his attention back to reality.

The sun was starting to set as kids walked out from class. Yuga walked along a bit, and then noticed two kids from another classroom had Duel Monster cards in their hand and were talking amongst themselves. Yuga was about to walk over to them, when…

-Penalty warning, penalty warning!- a drone soon yelled as it flew over to the two kids, -Trading cards is not allowed without the permission of a certified card trader from the Goha Corporation! Cease your actions or else you shall be given a penalty.-

"Oh well… guess it can't be helped," one kid shrugged as they put their cards away and walked off.

"Why do people put up with this…?" Yuga asked, though he was mumbling to himself, "The Goha Corp just… ugh… why can't they see that people are upset?"

"Then act on it!"

Yuga stopped in his tracks and turned to see one of his schoolmates was there. This kid had wild, frizzy, blue hair, red eyes, a black top with a red dragon on it, baggy tan pants, and brown shoes.

"Um… hi?" Yuga spoke.

"Act upon your feelings towards these Goha goons!" the kid proclaimed, "And let it be known the Goha goons shall topple!"

"...uh… who are you?"

The kid then grinned a bit, "Who am I? Who am I? There's a reason I say it twice. I am power incarnate, I am vengeance, the future source of Duel Monster's legacy, a bearer of power that nobody is aware of!"

The kid kept going, but a lot of what he was saying sounded so ridiculously shounen like that Yuga lost track until the kid held out his deck box.

"I am the spawn from the afterlife! I am Lucidien Kamijo!" the blunette yelled out loud.

Yuga just stared at him for a moment, soon recognizing him from the classroom, "...can I just call you Luke? The people around here say that."

The kid stumbled back a little bit in response, but managed to regain himself quickly, "Alright… Luke is fine."

"And how would I be able to rebel against the, as you put it, 'Goha goons'?"

"Just follow me and I'll show you the way… and we'll rush forward…" Luke said with a grin.

The word choice seemed to grab Yuga's attention, so he ended up following after Luke.

It was now night as Yuga and Luke had arrived at their destination. Luke happily walked through some 'caution, do not enter' tape that lined a perimeter around an abandoned building of some sort. Yuga wordlessly followed him, with the two soon entering a building.

"How old is this place?" Yuga asked.

"Predates the disaster in Domino City, so at least ten or eleven years," Luke informed.

Yuga nodded his head a little, then noticed a sign out of the corner of his eye. He walked over and could see what looked to be some sort of faded logo.

"'KC'?" Yuga questioned, "Oh… this must be some old Kaiba Corporation building."

"The Goha goons never got around to tearing it down… and this was a place with a dueling mainframe…" Luke said with a grin, "And it's still got power and a guard. It means…"

"I may be able to install Rush Dueling here…" Yuga realized.

The two continued down and soon arrived at the area that Luke was talking about. Indeed, there was a terminal nearby. Yuga and Luke stepped down to the floor, with Yuga simply smiling in amazement.

"You!" Luke shouted out as he pointed towards someone. Yuga walked over to see this man had a white coat on, white long pants, brown shoes, and a strange sort of mask covering his face that only left his mouth visible.

"You again? You're out of tries, so leave me be…" the man said to Luke.

"What does he mean… out of tries?" Yuga questioned.

Luke said nothing as he got out his Duel Disk… to reveal it had full penalties, "I dueled him in order to beat the heck out of this Goha goon. No matter what I tried, I wasn't able to beat this guy, and everytime I lost, I got a penalty."

"I told you that I don't work for Goha…"

Yuga then slowly walked over to the terminal, then made a run for it and managed to get it online, "Alright!"

"Duel Monsters is a pathetic waste of time…" the man remarked, "You two best leave while you still can."

"If this is such a waste, then why did Maximillion Pegasus even create it in the first place, huh?!" Luke retorted.

"Pegasus was a fool," the man spoke as he turned away, "He doomed the world by creating Duel Monsters, and the Kaiba Corporation was a fool to even assist his company in making it go beyond a simple card game…"

"I don't get why we take it so seriously… it IS just a card game…" a girl's voice spoke.

Yuga and Luke turned to see Romin walking over to their side, a guitar case hanging from her back.

"Just… a card game? Really?!" Luke nearly yelled.

"I'm sorry?" Romin responded with a shrug.

Luke just growled a little, while Yuga gave her a motion to at least try to defend her perspective.

"I'm… not really into dueling…" Romin spoke nervously.

"You're a wise kid for that," the mysterious man spoke up, "Only fools invest their time and money into this stupid card game."

"Says the guy who plays it!" Luke responded.

"Merely in self-defense…"

"But the biggest fool in all of human history… Yugi Moto…" the mysterious man spoke, clenching a fist.

"How DARE you!" Yuga yelled, "How dare you besmirch the name of the first King of Games!"

The mysterious man said nothing more and simply turned away from the group as Yuga growled a little bit.

"I'll show you that Duel Monsters is more than just a rigid card game…" Yuga responded as he quickly typed a bit at the terminal. He quickly got out a USB stick he had some of the Rush Duel data, plugged into his Duel Disk, plugged the Duel Disk into the terminal, and began to type as fast as he possibly could.

"Oh?" the mysterious man responded, somewhat curious.

"Preliminary data installed. Running executable," Yuga spoke, continuing to type, "Rush Duel data installation… don't fail me now!"

A few minutes had passed and the data stream was flowing around on the monitor on the terminal. Yuga kept silent as he typed away at the keyboard at a fast pace, while Romin and Luke just silently watched. There was no sound in the room other than Yuga's typing and the breathing of the people in the area…

The group of people turned around and saw Gakuto storming in and then stop to try to catch his breath.

"Our student council president…" Romin muttered.

"Why are you here?" Luke questioned.

"Ohdo was supposed to meet me after classes ended!" Gakuto yelled out, quickly pointing over to Yuga.

The mysterious man looked over Gakuto for a moment, soon spotting what almost looked to be blonde roots in his hair. He gave off a soft 'hmm' at this, before a blaring sound echoed.

-Warning! Warning!-

Everybody present quickly turned to see a Goha drone flying in that looked over to the terminal Yuga was working on.

-Illegal access to a Goha Corporation facility and terminal detected, in addition to an unidentified person trespassing!- the drone proclaimed.

"Stupid drone…" Luke muttered.

-If the activity is not stopped in 6 minutes and 16 seconds, everyone present shall receive a penalty!- the drone announced.

"...YUGA! WORK FASTER!" Gakuto yelled in a panic.

"Just another second…" Yuga responded as he typed a few more keys and then pressed the enter button. After he did that, the data finished uploading. Yuga happily smiled as he quickly unplugged his Duel Disk from the terminal and it glowed, "Let's feel the rush!"

Yuga slid his Duel Disk onto his arm and then turned towards the mysterious man, "I'll show you the potential of my Rush Duels!"

"I accept your activation. Let's see if you and your cards can match me…" the mysterious man grinned as he raised his arm with his Duel Disk on it.

Yuga gained a happy smile as his Duel Disk also activated, only for it to start to glow red and then shrink down in size. It went from five zones down to only three, and then the Duel Disk itself gained another red highlight.

"Huh?" Gakuto blinked.

"It's a seven?" Romin questioned.

"The Goha Corp is all about sixes, aren't they?" Yuga responded with a smile, "So, I'm going one beyond them… with a seven!"

The mysterious man simply looked to his Duel Disk as it changed into the same shape as well, then he stood ready for the duel.

"Duel," the mysterious man proclaimed.

"Let's Rush Duel!" Yuga spoke with a grin.

(Yuga: 4000; Mysterious Man: 4000)

"Our hand starts with four cards, and the turn player draws! It's my turn!" Yuga quickly explained as he drew for turn, "I draw!"

He quickly glanced at his hand, seeing it consisted of Dark Sorcerer, Spell Archer, Magical Beast Wolfram, Wind Spirit's Blessing, and his drawn card was High Magic - Double Accel.

"I normal summon Spell Archer, Dark Sorcerer and Magical Beast Wolfram into defense!" Yuga announced as he proceeded to place all three cards onto his Duel Disk in face-up defense position.

With that, a flash of light shined from Yuga's Duel Disk. Beams of light soon went flying with holographic projections of the three cards before they all popped up onto the field.

(Spell Archer; Lvl: 3; ATK: 1000; DEF: 400)

(Dark Sorcerer; Lvl: 4; ATK: 1500; DEF: 0)

(Magical Beast Wolfram; Lvl: 3; ATK: 1100; DEF: 100)

"Did… did you just normal summon a bunch of monsters in one action?!" Luke shouted out.

"Yeah, I did," Yuga smiled.

"Isn't that against the rules…?" Gakuto questioned.

"Rush Duels are different! In Rush Duels, you can normal summon as many times as you want to and monsters can be in face-up attack, face-up defense, or face-down defense!" Yuga told the group in a quick way.

"How interesting…" the mysterious man admitted.

"Since it's the first turn, I can't attack and I want to see what you're capable of, hence the defense play. I set two cards facedown and end my turn!" Yuga admitted before he set both Spell Card onto his field.

"It's my turn, I draw."

"Good luck," Yuga said with a smile.

The mysterious man proceeded to draw for turn and looked at his opening hand, which consisted of Burst Breath of Destruction, Negate Attack, Hitotsu-Me Giant, Gadget Soldier, and his drawn card for turn was Call of the Haunted.

"I normal summon my Hitotsu-Me Giant in attack position!" the mysterious man announced, quickly placing the card onto his Duel Disk and letting it shine forth.

(Hitotsu-Me Giant; Lvl: 4; ATK: 1200; DEF: 1000)

"I shall now tribute my monster in order to summon Gadget Soldier!" the man proclaimed as he sent the weaker monster to the Graveyard to tribute summon in the stronger one, yet it was summoned into face-up defense.

(Gadget Soldier; Lvl: 6; ATK: 1800; DEF: 2000)

"I shall set two cards facedown on the field," the mysterious man informed as he set both Negate Attack and Call of the Haunted down, "Turn end."

"Alright then! It's my turn!" Yuga grinned as he moved his hand towards his deck and then drew five cards, "I draw!"

"Huah?!" Gakuto yelled out loud.

"How? Why?" Luke questioned.

"In Rush Duels, you draw until you have five cards in your hand!" Yuga explained quickly. He looked his hand over, seeing it was Answerer the Blazing Swordsman, Hydro Magician, Curtain of Sparks, Wind Spirit's Trickery, and Trick Guard. He glanced over at Gadget Soldier and considered the two set cards for a bit, 'He summoned it into defense instead of attack, which is odd since I have a monster with zero defense points on my side. Why didn't he try to attack me? He must have a plan. Question is… do I risk walking into it or play defensively?'

Yuga glanced at the clock and saw that it was now five minutes and going down, "Gonna have to take a chance."

He then took a calming breath, looked towards the group behind him, and smiled.

"Go for it!" Luke shouted.

"I activate the Spell Card, Wind Spirit's Trickery!" Yuga announced, putting the card into his last open Spell/Trap Zone, "This decreases your monster's attack and defense points by 1000 until the end phase!"

A gust of wind flew around Gadget Soldier, causing it to shiver a little

(Gadget Soldier; ATK: 1800-800; DEF: 2000-1000)

"I'll set one card facedown and switch all of my monsters into attack position!" Yuga announced, proceeding to do so, "And now, we battle! Dark Sorcerer, attack and destroy Gadget Soldier!"

Dark Sorcerer started to grin as it generated magic into its hands and then flung them right at Gadget Soldier, causing the monster to blow up.

"Attack him directly!" Yuga shouted to his remaining two monsters.

"Not so fast! I activate my Trap, Negate Attack!" the mysterious man responded, with the Trap Card flipping face-up, "Your attack is negated and your battle phase ends!"

"Not bad," Yuga smiled, "Turn end!"

"Alright then… I draw," the mysterious man announced, proceeding to draw four cards and then smirked upon seeing a card that he wanted was within it, "First, I will normal summon my Ryu-Kishin!"

(Ryu-Kishin; Lvl: 3; ATK: 1000; DEF: 500)

"Now, I activate my Trap Card, Call of the Haunted!" he declared, with the set card flipping up, "I special summon a monster from my Graveyard! Return to my side, Gadget Soldier!"

(Gadget Soldier; Lvl: 6; ATK: 1800; DEF: 2000)

"Multiple normal summons in a single turn. Your Rush Duels allow me to tribute this monster with ease! Ryu-Kishin, Gadget Soldier! For my loyal servant, you shall be sacrificed!" the mysterious man announced as he moved the two monsters, as well as Call of the Haunted, from his field to the Graveyard, "Behold! The embodiment of my pride and my soul, my most loyal monster!"

He then slammed the card onto the Duel Disk, sending out a light and generating a hologram of the card. The hologram rushed forward before expanding into a monster.

"Appear, Blue-Eyes White Dragon!"

The monster spawned from the flash of light, causing Yuga, Luke, and Gakuto to all gasp in disbelief at the sight of the well known dragon.

(Blue-Eyes White Dragon; Lvl: 8; ATK: 3000; DEF: 2500)

"SORRY?!" Luke yelled in disbelief.

"This guy just HAS a Blue-Eyes White Dragon?! There's only supposed to be three copies of that card in all of existence!" Gakuto proclaimed.

"...why…?" Romin asked.

"When the card was made, it was the most powerful card in all of Duel Monsters. Only four copies of it were ever made, and the last one was torn apart," Luke quickly explained, "And before the disaster in Domino City, they were all owned by one guy. So how does THIS guy have one of them?!"

The mysterious man just folded his arms, clearly indicating he was not going to answer this question.

"Didn't you duel him earlier?" Romin then asked as she turned towards Luke.

"I did, but he was using a deck themed around Thunder Dragon!" Luke responded, "He never used THIS card!"

Yuga could only stare a little at the sight of one of the most well known dragons in all of Duel Monsters, "...the first Rush Duel… and I'm fighting a Blue-Eyes…"

He was silent for a moment before a wide grin appeared on his face, "This is so cool! Bring it on, you dragon! I'm not afraid of you!"

"You should be…" the mysterious man menacingly informed.

"But I'm not."

"...I now activate a Spell Card since I control a Blue-Eyes White Dragon. I use Burst Breath of Destruction!" the mysterious man announced, "All of your Level 6 or lower monsters are now destroyed!"

The Spell Card generated an image of a dragon's head that fired off a blast of red energy right into Yuga's three monsters, effortlessly destroying them all. The smoke quickly cleared and all Yuga could do was start fearfully laughing as he realized he had only one line of defense against this beast of a monster.

"Yuga?" Romin asked.

"This time…" Luke spoke up.

"He's totally scared…" Gakuto added.

Yuga just let off another fearful laugh and glanced down to his set cards.

"Now, I shall normal summon La Jinn the Royal Genie of the Lamp!" the mysterious man announced, proceeding to slap the card onto his Duel Disk in attack position. The monster resembled the original La Jinn almost to a T, but it was a light blue shade instead of green.

(La Jinn the Royal Genie of the Lamp; Lvl: 4; ATK: 1800; DEF: 0)

"That's enough for game…" Luke gulped.

"Battle! Blue-Eyes White Dragon, unleash your rage and attack him directly! White Lightning!"

The dragon charged up a sphere of energy in its mouth and then flung the volley of energy right towards Yuga, which made direct contact with him before he could declare he would use one of his set cards, and blasted him back a bit.

(Yuga: 4000-1000)

In spite of the blast, Yuga was able to stand and then looked over to the other monster.

"Put an end to this, La Jinn! Direct attack!"

"I activate my Trap Card, Curtain of Sparks! La Jinn's attack points are halved until the end of this turn!"

(La Jinn the Royal Genie of the Lamp; ATK: 1800-900)

"But you still take the damage!"

The genie proceeded to zoom over to Yuga and smacked him right in the cheek, which sent him right into the duel field.

(Yuga: 1000-100)

"Yuga!" Luke yelled.

"Are you okay?!" Romin asked.

"I'll live…" Yuga responded as he, once again, managed to stand, "Even if they're holograms… that still hurt…"

"Turn end. At this timing, not only does my La Jinn's attack points return to 1800, but this card's effect activates. It switches into face-up defense position after having successfully attacked this battle phase!"

(La Jinn the Royal Genie of the Lamp; ATK: 900-1800)

Yuga exhaled a little as he saw the odds were against him and the clock was still ticking down. He looked down to his hands and saw they were gently shaking a bit, yet he clenched them and managed to calm down a bit, "My turn! I draw!"

With that, he proceeded to draw two cards, seeing they were Mystic Dealer and Stray Familiar, "Jackpot! I got a line! I summon Mystic Dealer and Stray Familiar!"

Both monsters quickly spawned, Stray Familiar giving a meek meow, while Mystic Dealer kept a calm expression.

(Mystic Dealer; Lvl: 3; ATK: 1000; DEF: 0)

(Stray Familiar; Lvl: 1; ATK: 0; DEF: 1400)

"I activate Mystic Dealer's effect! I send Answerer the Blazing Swordsman from my hand to my Graveyard to draw one card!" Yuga declared, proceeding to draw the card, "On this card… I'll bet it all!"

He looked towards the card for a moment, then beamed, "Jackpot, it's here! I'll tribute the two monsters on my field in order to tribute summon!"

A golden beam of light appeared on the Duel Disk as Yuga held the card out and spoke, "To all the things that block me… the walls, the mountains, and even the planets!"

Yuga then placed the card onto his Duel Disk as a light shined from it, "I will carve a road through them all!"

The monster soared into the air as seven stars appeared before the monster descended.

"Let's do this, Seventh Road Magician!"

(Seventh Road Magician; Lvl: 7; ATK: 2100; DEF: 1500)

"Seventh Road…" Luke gawked.

"Magician?" Romin blinked.

"Alright! You got your ace on the field!" Gakuto yelled in joy.

"But, it's only got 2100 attack points!" Luke realized.

"He can't beat Blue-Eyes!"

"Are you sure about that?!" Yuga remarked with a grin, "I activate the Spell Card, Wind Spirit's Blessing!"

The card flipped face-up from the left-most Spell/Trap Zone on the field and caused Seventh Road Magician to start to glow.

"I send Hydro Magician from my hand to the Graveyard and increase Seventh Road's attack points by 1000!"

(Seventh Road Magician; ATK: 2100-3100)

"It's higher than Blue-Eyes' attack points!"

"And I'm not done yet! I activate the Spell Card, High Magic - Double Accel!" Yuga announced, with the card in the right-most Spell/Trap Zone flipping up, "I return Answerer the Blazing Swordsman and Hydro Magician from my Graveyard to my Deck to increase Seventh Road's attack points by it's base attack stat!"

Seventh Road Magician let out a powerful yell as his power continued to rise.

(Seventh Road Magician; ATK: 3100-5200)

"It's still rising!" Luke grinned.

"...still, even if Yuga can get past Blue-Eyes, the time limit…" Gakuto spoke as they saw the clock was getting closer and closer to running out.

"I'm not afraid," Yuga boldly spoke, getting the attention of his friends, "Because Seventh Road has an effect. For each attribute that's in the Graveyard, his attack points go up by 300 per each!"

"Wait, what?!" Luke yelled.

"Right… and he's got…" Gakuto spoke as they thought over it a moment.

"Fire, Dark, Wind, Earth, Water, five in total!" Gakuto and Luke yelled.

"That means, he's gonna get another 1500…" Romin realized.

"That's still not enough. Even with that boost and if Yuga can get past Blue-Eyes, this guy will have another 300 left…" Luke added.

The mysterious man just gave a confident smirk at this.

"I'm not done yet," Yuga responded, "Because, in order to activate this effect, I need to send the top card of my deck to the Graveyard to activate it."

"One more card can be sent… so…" Romin spoke.

"If it's other than Fire, Dark, Wind, Earth, or Water, he'll win! That means…"

"It's gotta be a Light attribute!"

"You're seriously gambling the outcome of this duel and the possibility to be able to duel in the future on a single card?" the mysterious man questioned.

"Yeah. And I believe…" Yuga spoke.

"In what?"

"The Heart of the Cards! My deck will give me what I need! So, I activate Seventh Road's effect! Elemental Road!" Yuga announced, proceeding to move to send the top card to the Graveyard.

"There's only one chance…" Romin muttered.

Thus, Yuga drew the card and looked at it. He then gave off a grin upon seeing it was Shining Shaman, "Jackpot! Light attribute!"

(Seventh Road Magician; ATK: 5200-7000)

"Seven thousand attack points!" Luke yelled out in amazement.

"Awesome!" Gakuto added.

"Go for it!" Romin cheered on.

"Seventh Road Magician, attack Blue-Eyes White Dragon and end this duel!" Yuga declared as his magician charged forward with yellow energy charging in its sword, "Carve open the road of victory!"

Seventh Road Magician floated above Blue-Eyes as seven stars gathered behind him as the magic formed into the sword.

"SEVENTH MAGIC!" Yuga shouted out as Seventh Road Magician shot down a blast of magical energy towards Blue-Eyes, which drove right through the dragon and caused a large blast that knocked the mysterious man back.

(Mysterious Man: 4000-0)

The clock on the drone stopped as the duel field vanished. Luke and Gakuto both exhaled, while Romin glanced at the clock to see that only seven seconds remained before the attempt would've ended in failure. The drone then suddenly powered off, leaving it inert and inoperable.

"Not half bad," Romin remarked.

Yuga was about to start cheering, when a holographic image appeared in front of him that read "Rush Duel Installation, Complete". He blinked a little in confusion before there was a bit of an energy charging sound, which made Luke and Gakuto get out their Duel Disks to see that they had morphed into the same shape as Yuga's.

"Wow~~~!" Luke cheered.

Gakuto gasped upon the sudden change and stared in disbelief, as Romin quickly snapped a few photos with her camera's shutter noise off to avoid getting their attention.

"Was this your plan?" Luke asked as he looked at his Duel Disk, and then gasped in amazement, "My… penalties! They're gone!"

Yuga gasped and then saw the same was the case for his Duel Disk, "Jackpot! This is awesome!"

"Yuga… what did you do to our Duel Disks?" Gakuto questioned.

"I don't know," Yuga admitted with a shrug.

"Uh… guys?" Romin soon spoke up, making them all turn to her as she got her phone out, "It's not just us…"

The three guys looked over her phone, seeing it was on Chirper, and then gasped upon seeing people all over the city posting information and questions about the sudden transformation of Duel Disks to the seven shape.

"Oh no…" Luke paled.

"It's all over town…" Gakuto added.

All Yuga could do was nervously laugh a bit at this happening…

I'll openly admit that I am workshopping how I want the card database bit to work out. It's a little in progress. Also, in case you're at all curious, as I mentioned… Duel Links player, so those were influenced by infuriating decks I've gone up against. The one with Aelister and Buster Blader was a few nights ago, hence why it's fairly fresh. …that was an infuriating deck used by the Vagabond, but besides the point.

So, the timeframe for this matches my original headcanon for the timeline. That being that Sevens takes place after the original and GX, after the disaster in Domino City, and after Zexal, but before 5D's and away from both Arc-V and Vrains due to the worlds being different. My logic for that is that flashbacks had shown off Xyz monsters, so it would add up to being around their popularity. Then Jack's Duel Runner was shown in a museum, so that threw a monkey wrench in my ideas.

Two other things I wanna mention really quickly. Wind Spirit's Trickery was originally going to be an Equip Spell, but then I realized Yuga was out of slots for his Spell/Trap Zones and had to make it a regular Spell instead. La Jinn was originally supposed to be the normal monster that was in the OG anime, but I thought about the duel a little more and the question of "why doesn't Yuga just attack into that instead of Blue-Eyes?" occured to me and I decided to make it a new monster with an effect that changes its battle position so that Yuga would HAVE to attack into Blue-Eyes.

I will say that I had a lot of fun writing this, and it was a lot of fun to be able to write a story again after all the tech issues I've been having. More is set to come, but we'll see how it all plays out given classes and stuff.

I think my favorite part would be the interactions between Yuga and Romin. Just something about them was a lot of fun to write out.

Well, that's about it for this one. It's the last chapter going up before my 23rd birthday. Yeah, the 16th is my birthday. We'll see how it goes. Also, I will make sure to play the Rush Duel video game in the near future. I've seen it in action and it looks like a lot of fun.

Just Live More.
