67That's why I'm publishing the sequel of Yu-Gi-Oh! ARC-Vrains: The Circuit of Smiles, this fanfic Yu-Gi-Oh Vrains: Advent of New Beginnings, NOW! My hand won't stop typing ideas and chapters... Is this a side-effect of regularly writing and updating the previous series?

A lone figure stood in a dark room. This person was a woman with braided blonde hair, wearing a visor-like eye mask and an elegant white priestess dress with a silver neck choker, tiara, wrist bracelets and high heels. She also wore a four-winged split cape. She also had a white-colored Duel Disk with gold and silver accents on her right wrist.
Suddenly, six new individuals materialized and logged into the room.
The first one was a tall, fair-skinned green-haired young woman with amber-colored eyes, wearing a beautiful, shoulderless light brown/green/yellow colored dress with a brown cape that resembled a pair of wings with yellow feathers. She also wears toeless, strapped low-heel boots, a flower hair clip on the left side of her head, and a flower-like neck choker.
The second was a hooded dark-skinned figure with glowing red eyes through his hoodie. He wears black/red colored shrouded robes with boots and gloves. He also wears golden chains around his waist and arms, and legs. He also wore a mask resembling a demon-like vulture with piercing red eyes.
The third individual was a brown-haired male wearing a western outfit and a partly torn cowboy hat over his head. His outfit is black, almost sheriff-like western clothes, as if he came out from a fire. He wears gloves and cowboy boots with star back tips as well as a gray cloak over half of his body, concealing the demonic-like pistol that he can use as a weapon but also as his Duel Disk.
The fourth person was a man in fully silver/black armored-like clothing with a mask covering his face and showing pale blue, glowing eyes. He wears a long black cape with red lining across its edges. The armor looks elegant yet menacing. He wields a forearm shield that acts as his Duel Disk.
The fifth individual was a young man with long, short spiky hair wearing a full-body suit with deep dark red crimson dragon scales across the outfit, and his left arm covered in a dragon-like gauntlet claw that also acts as his Duel Disk. He has piercing yellow eyes as he has dragon horns and ears. He also wears a belt that acts like his dragon tail.
The sixth and final one was a beautiful young woman with light blue hair with emerald eyes. She wore a blue and white knight's outfit with silver armor. It consisted of a white, blue-lining leotard, white armored gauntlets and boots, a white headpiece with a blue gem and a white, blue-lining back skirt.
"Glad all of you could be here," the woman in the elegant dress said. "Before I begin, I want to focus on recent events."
The woman then pulled up three screens. One showed Ringmaster and Playmaker against Storm Rider/Zarc, one showed SOL Grand Prix, and the other showed LINK VRAINS' Top 10.
"As I've informed all of you, a while back, I encountered a mysterious individual by the name of Roget who appeared out of nowhere," she began. "After informing me that he had come from another dimension, I'd surely believed he was completely insane. But once learning he wanted revenge, I could tell that the two of us were the same."
"It was then you called us up," the green-haired woman stated. "You had us supply him with the resources needed to create the Arbiters in exchange for helping you get revenge against SOL Technologies."
"And while he may have had some success in some areas, he'd still failed in the end," the figure in dragonic armor mentioned.
"Still can't believe he tried to enslave a God," the man in silver and black armor added. "It's blasphemy to enslave a God to your will."
"Even so, just because we lost the battle doesn't mean we've lost the war," the woman in white said. "We should focus on moving forward and taking matters into our own hands. And the first step would be recruiting potential members. Does anyone have any suggestions?"
"I do," the hooded figure answered, "How about we recruit Glacia and Astro?"
"Seriously, Umbra?" The green-haired woman rhetorically asked. "You want to recruit two losers Roget hired to take out Ringmaster and his friends?"
"Natura's right," The young cowboy said. "Why would recruit someone who couldn't eliminate their target?"
"There are multiple reasons why we should recruit them," Umbra mentioned. "Nyx and Drakon were failures, Mordred was only a hitman who only sided with Roget to settle a score, and Accelerex wanted to get revenge on Gore. He also kept changing his Deck so much that it was difficult to determine his skills as a duelist. Thus, Glacia and Astro are the most fitting candidates."
"He's not wrong," The knightly female agreed. "I'm sure the two of them would like revenge mostly against Storm Rider. Making it a win for them and us."
"It's settled then. Umbra, you'll be in charge of breaking Glacia and Astro out of Den City Prison. Do not fail me."
"I promise you I won't, Queen Priscilla. You have my word," Umbra said as he logged out.
"You sure it's a great idea to recruit those two?" Natura asked. "What if they fail again?"
"If they do, it'll be on Umbra's hands," the silver and black armor individual said. "Ladon and Lumine. What's your take on the matter?"
"I have no words, Galerius," Ladon said. "But I will say it will be nice to have another duelist who excels in Dragons on the squad."
"I should've known you'd say something like that," Lumine said. "However it will be nice to have another female warrior on the team. Hopefully, she takes things seriously, unlike someone I know."
"Hey! I heard that!" Natura said with an annoyed expression.
"Enough!" Priscilla yelled. "This isn't the time for bickering. We should focus on our next move once Umbra has recruited the new members.
Later on, in the evening, in the real world...
Umbra, now in his human form, was on a boat. He had black, spiky hair, wearing a black hoodie with a gray undershirt, baggy pants and shoes. He also had a chained belt and a skull face necklace around his neck, now heading straight for the offshore maximum security prison.
"Kelvin," Lumine, a.k.a. Tamako, said through an earpiece. "You're good to go."
"This is a state-of-the-art prison dedicated to big-time criminals," Desperado, a.k.a. Markus, explained as he brought up the schematics onscreen on the boat's computer. "It runs on an auto-lock computer system, thus making escape practically impossible." Two arrows pointed to different sections on the map, indicating where Glacia and Astro were being held.
"I've already hacked into all of their security cameras," Galerius, a.k.a. Ethan, chimed in. "I put them on an infinite loop so they won't see anyone who comes in or out. In addition, I shut down their motion detectors, which means you can run around as often as you like."
"Thanks. But I doubt I need to," Kelvin replied. "As for our current situation, one problem is taken care of. As for the boat, won't they see it coming to the island?"
"Yes, they can," Ladon, a.k.a. Cole, replied. "If it wasn't for the fact that I spoofed their radar to make us one hundred percent invisible."
"I've rerouted the guards' patrol routes so we won't have any unexpected run-ins," Markus explained. "Plus, all the gates leading to Glacia and Astro's cell are unlocked. However, you'll only have thirty minutes to complete this mission."
"So that's the second problem accounted for," Kelvin said. "Anything we need to know about the entrances?"
"There are three entrances," Natura, a.k.a. Alice, answered. "The first answer is obviously through the front gate. However, there is a problem. Not only are the guards stationed with a three-hour switch, but both front towers have a security bot and two infrared scanners."
"Going through the front will likely cause the alarms to go off and mess with my assignment..." Umbra deduced. "However, there is a way to bypass that."
"And if there isn't, you can always take one of the other two entrances," Tamako added. "Speaking of which, what other options do you have?"
"The second answer would be going through the sewers, at this point." Ethan pointed at an area on the screen. It was on the far right of the prison, just near the dock. "The pro with this option is that we'll be able to evade security. The con is that it'll take too long to locate their cells through the sewers."
"EW!" Alice commented, disgusted by that idea. "Please tell me that the third answer is better! Please!"
"Calm down, Alice, and let the man speak!" Cole told her.
"Thank you, Cole," Ethan said. "The third answer would be to enter from the back through the courtyard." He pointed to a section of the courtyard. "Inmates are allowed to get exercise once in the morning, once in the afternoon, and once during the evening. While we'll be able to blend in with the crowd, there's a chance of getting discovered by both the inmates and possibly security."
"That won't be a problem. I specially modified my clothes to allow myself to be disguised as one of the guards," Kelvin said. "With my disguise, I'll blend in with the crowd and get to Glacia and Astro's cells."
"I must say, I'm impressed," Markus admitted.
"How exactly did you get your cloak to do that? And what technology did you use?" Cole asked out of curiosity. "I want to study it once I get the chance."
"I used the SOLtis blueprints to modify my cloak," Kelvin answered.
"Umbra, you're almost at the offshore maximum security prison," Tamako informed him.
"Good. Time to put on my disguise and free Glacia and Astro." Kelvin replied.
Once the boat reached the dock, Kelvin disembarked from it, having taken on his disguise and role for the mission. He went up the stairs and turned right to reach the back entrance. He saw multiple inmates working out, playing basketball and talking with one another in the courtyard. Sure enough, two guards were stationed at each of the towers, a security bot, and two infrared scanners.
"Should've known it wasn't going to be easy," he muttered before noticing a nearby air vent. "Or maybe it will be."
Kelvin quickly disabled the grilles from the air vent and crawled his way inside before returning to his normal self. Fortunately, stealth was always his strong suit so he could reach another entrance to the ventilation system towards the other side of the prison without an issue.
"Phew, this place stinks like mold and raw sewage…."
Kelvin remarked with apparent disgust as he entered the pipe and started crawling. If he recalled the blueprints correctly, he could reach the prison's sewer system through the vents. Furthermore, solitary confinement and special detainment are accessible through it, meaning Glacia and Astro were held in those areas. Normally, female prisoners are placed in a separate wing from male prisoners, but certain prisoners get different treatment. Also, the evidence locker is near solitary confinement, which is quite convenient. Before picking up Astro, he can retrieve their Duel Disks from there.
A few minutes later…
Eventually, Kelvin came across a grate and opened it with some difficulty, landing on a well-lit corridor. Unfortunately, he just happened to land before a prison guard, who was momentarily stunned due to Kelvin's sudden appearance.
"Who are you?!" The guard cried out after getting past his shock. "What do you—!?"
Before he could say anything more, Kelvin swiftly grabbed him by his throat and slammed him on the wall.
"You be as quiet as humanly possible, or you'll discover first-hand the meaning of the expression 'as silent as the dead." Kelvin glared at the guard. "Nod, if you understand."
The trembling guard quickly nodded, looking terrified.
"Good. Regarding the two inmates, Glacia and Astro, I heard they were placed in solitary confinement and special detainment. Nod if that's the case."
The guard nodded once more.
"Splendid. Finally, I want to know how well her cell is guarded. And if I were you, I'd keep my tone down to a whisper. Attempt to scream or call for help, and I'll crush your windpipe. Now start talking and make it quick."
"R-right now, there's no one guarding her." The guard spoke with a hurried tone, looking ready to faint. "Almost everyone's currently guarding the other prisoners, on break, left or in the courtyard. I-I was also on my way there after bringing her food. I also have the keycard to access her cell here. Just…please don't hurt me…."
"Thank you for your cooperation," Kelvin said upon receiving the keycard. "As a reward, I give you permission to nap."
Kelvin drove his fist into the guard's solar plexus, knocking him unconscious. After moving his body to a secluded corner and dumping it there, Kelvin forged ahead, evading the sparse cameras in front of a large metal door. Upon swiping the keycard, Kelvin found himself inside a spacious chamber with several bars in front of him, forming a cell. However, that one was much cleaner, with a proper bed and furniture.
Lying on top of the bed was Glacia, who was now in her human form. She had a slim body, pale purple hair that reached her shoulders, gray eyes, and fair skin. Her cheeks puffed, and she had an annoyed expression as she grumbled. It took all of Kelvin's self-restraint not to laugh at the girl's expression, which was far from her usual tough, composed self.
"You know, she looks kinda adorable when pouting like that."
Kelvin spoke teasingly as he opened the cell's door with the keycard, prompting Glacia to abruptly spring up like a coil from the bed. Upon realizing that the one who had spoken was not a guard and some random stranger standing by the door while grinning, her cheeks turned red as she picked up her food tray and threw it at Kelvin with all the strength he could muster.
"Hey, watch it!" Kelvin exclaimed as he dodged her shot. "Is that how you behave towards someone who came to rescue you, you uncivilized girl!?"
"Who asked you to come and save me!?" Glacia shot back. "I'm perfectly capable of taking care of myself! Also, I don't recall asking anyone to save me! So, I don't need your help!"
"It sure doesn't seem like that from where I'm standing," Kelvin said. "I believe we got on the wrong foot. My name is Kelvin, and I'm here to rescue you and Astro. The two of you will be getting out of this dump tonight. Now, come with me. We must free Astro as quickly as possible and sneak out of the prison before the guards realize we're escaping."
"Don't order me around, old man." Glacia crossed her arms with a haughty expression on her face. "To let you know, I only go by Glacia in LINK VRAINS. So does my partner, Astro. Our real names are Aurora and Lucien. Furthermore, I refuse to hide in the shadows like a coward. If we're escaping, I'll charge straight ahead and take down anyone who dares to try and stop me!"
"…You have got to be kidding me." Kelvin was flabbergasted at Aurora's stubbornness and lack of common sense as he rubbed his temples. "Alright then, plan B it is."
Before Aurora could react, Kelvin lifted her from the ground and tossed her on his shoulder.
"Oi, what do you think you're doing!?" Aurora yelled as she hit his back with her fists. "Let me down this instant!"
"Can you please keep your voice down? I have everything taken care of." Kelvin assured her. "My team and I rerouted the guard's patrols and put the cameras on an infinite loop," he added. "That means we can get out of here with ease."
"I'll believe it when it happens," Aurora said.
A while later…
Kelvin and Aurora eventually reached solitary confinement and freed Astro, a.k.a. Lucien, before going to the evidence locker to retrieve their Duel Disks and heading straight to the bottom floor of the prison, having successfully evaded both the guards and the cameras. As they walked down the floors, Kelvin informed Aurora and Lucian why he wanted to recruit them, easily convincing the duo to join.
"There it is! The entrance!" Lucian announced. "This was too easy!"
BEEP! BEEP!
The trio gasped, realizing that the alarms were on. The front entrance was sealed, preventing them from walking off the offshore maximum security prison.
"You just had to open your big fat mouth, didn't you?" Aurora furiously whispered, pulling on Lucian's ear.
"I thought you said the virus was supposed to keep the cameras occupied for five more minutes..." Lucian mentioned.
"It was," Kelvin replied. "Quickly, to the back entrance!"
The trio went back to the center of the bottom floor of the prison before heading to the back entrance. Unfortunately, by the time they arrived at the center of the floor, multiple guards were waiting for them.
"Freeze!" the captain shouted through a microphone. "In case you were wondering how we managed to find you, an inmate saw one of our guards enter an air vent and reported it to us. The three of you are under arrest! Surrender now, for you are outnumbered! You have the right to remain silent! Anything you say can and will be used against you in court. You have the right to talk to a lawyer for advice before we ask you any questions."
"Hurry! Let's spit up and rendezvous at the back entrance!" Kelvin instructed as Aurora and Lucian went one way while Kelvin went the other.
"They chose the second option! Pursue them!" the captain told the other officers as they pursued the various pairs. Aurora and Lucian went to the entrance nearby, with Kelvin going to the bottom-right staircase.
Lucian defeated each of the coming guards with his martial arts skills to aim for their pressure points. This cleared the way for him and Aurora to reach the back entrance.
"I must say, even though we've been in prison for some time, you still got it," Aurora commented.
"I don't know if I should feel flattered or offended," Lucian said, causing Aurora to chuckle. More guards arrived at both sides, causing the two to stand back. "You take these guys, and I'll take the others." Nodding in agreement, Lucian raced forward and proceeded to bicycle kick the first guard, landing on the ground before sweeping the next guard off his feet and heading to the coming guard. As for Aurora, she evaded the taser attacks from the guard in front of her before redirecting them to him and his comrades.
"Whew, that was a doozy!" Aurora said.
"Let's go!" Lucian urged her. Suddenly, two duel anchors shot out of nowhere, preventing them from leaving.
"These duel anchors prevent you from leaving unless you beat us in a duel," the guard explained as his ally arrived beside him. "Soon, you'll be outnumbered."
"My, it's good to duel again," Aurora said, readying her Duel Disk.
"I can agree with you on that," Lucian replied, activating his Duel Disk. "Let's teach these guards a lesson they'll never forget!"
"Duel!" all four duelists shouted in unison.
Aurora and Lucian: 4000 LP
Security Guard 1 and 2: 4000 LP
"As this is a Tag Duel, we'll share fields, life points, and Graveyards while alternating every turn." Security Guard 1 explained.
"We'll abide by those rules," Lucian replied, with Aurora nodding.
"I shall go first," Aurora announced, looking at her hand. "I'll start by summoning Blizzard Falcon!"
A dark blue bird made of ice crystals appeared on Aurora's field
Blizzard Falcon ATK 1500 DEF 1500 LVL: 4
"Then I activate the Spell Card: Blizzard Jet!" Aurora continued. "This card increases the attack points of one Water Winged Beast-type monster on my field by 1500 until my End Phase!"
Blizzard Falcon was encased in ice as its attack points increased.
Blizzard Falcon ATK 1500→3000
"A monster with 3000 attack points on the first turn?" Guard 2 said, incredulous. "Impressive, but you know you can't attack the first turn."
Aurora grinned confidently. "I know, but I can do this. I activate Blizzard Falcon's effect! When a card effect increases its attack points, I can inflict damage to the amount of attack points gained!"
"What?" Guard 1 and 2 said, surprised.
Blizzard Falcon became covered in snow as it dive-bombed the two guards, who winced from the damage.
Security Guard 1 and 2: 4000→2500 LP
"I place a card face-down and end my turn. At the end of the turn, Blizzard Falcon's attack points return to normal," Aurora concluded.
Blizzard Falcon ATK 3000→1500
"My turn! I draw!" Security Guard 1 said. "I activate the Continuous Spell Card: Heavy Forward. When Heavy Forward is activated, I can add an "Infinitrack" monster from my Deck to my hand. I add Infinitrack Brutal Dozer to my hand."
Lucian blinked. "Infinitrack? I wasn't expecting that."
"Next, I summon Infinitrack Anchor Drill."
A blue and yellow machine with a hydraulic jackhammer attached to it appeared.

"Anchor Drill's effect activates! When it is Normal or Special Summoned, I can Special Summon one Earth Machine monster from my hand in Defense Position. I Special Summon Infinitrack Brutal Dozer!"
A black bulldozer with pink markings all over its body appeared in Attack Position.

"Brutal Dozer's effect activates! When it is Special Summoned from my hand, I can Special Summon an "Infinitrack" monster from my Deck in Defense Position with its effects negated. Come, Infinitrack Trencher!" A large green track trencher covered in yellow lines appeared.

"Appear, my circuit!" A Link Portal appeared above. "The summoning condition is one non-Link "Infinitrack" monster. I set Anchor Drill in the Link Arrow!"
Anchor Drill entered the bottom-right arrow.
"Link the Circuit! I Link Summon! Appear! Link-1! Infinitrack Goliath!"
A large blue and white machine on four chain wheel legs, armed with a shovel and drill for arms, emerged from the portal at the left Extra Monster Zone.

"Moving on, I overlay Level 5 Infinitrack Brutal Dozer and Infinitrack Trencher!"
A bolt of blue energy shot out of Security Guard 1's Duel Disk and created the Xyz cross. Its two monsters turned into data and entered the cross. The ends shot beams of light, creating a galaxy.
"I Xyz Summon! Appear, Rank 5! Infinitrack River Stormer!"
A large red and silver machine covered in blue lines emerged from the galaxy created by the Xyz cross. It was a tank with three jet engines attached to its top, and each engine also had three water hoses attached to its tops. Said machine was summoned to Goliath's Link Arrow in Attack Position and circled by two lights.

"I wasn't expecting these guards to use both Link and Xyz Summoning," Glacia muttered.
"I activate River Stormer's effect!" Guard 1 continued. "By detaching one Overlay Unit, I can add an Earth Machine monster from my Deck to my hand or send it to the Graveyard."
Infinitrack River Stormer OU: 2→1
"I add Infinitrack Crab Crane to my hand. Next, I activate the effect of Infinitrack Trencher in my Graveyard! By banishing it, I can Special Summon a Level 5 or lower "Infinitrack" monster from my Graveyard in Defense Position. I Special Summon Anchor Drill!"
The blue and yellow machine reappeared.

"I activate the effect of Crab Crane in my hand! By Tributing Goliath, I can Special Summon Crab Crane in Defense Position!" The Link Monster disappeared and was replaced by a machine covered in green lines on four chain track legs with a massive claw.

"As Goliath was sent from the field to the Graveyard, I can attach it to an Xyz Monster I control. I attach it to River Stormer as an Overlay Unit."

"I activate the Spell Card: Gift of the Martyr!" Security Guard 1 said. "With this card, I can Tribute one monster I control and increase the attack points of another monster I control by the Tributed monster's attack points. I Tribute Anchor Drill to grant its attack points to River Stormer!"
The blue and yellow machine disintegrated as River Stormer glowed red from its increased power.

"Battle!" Security Guard 1 declared. "Crab Crane attacks Blizzard Falcon!"
Crab Crane swung its massive claw as it smashed into Blizzard Falcon, destroying it and making Aurora wince.
Aurora and Lucian: 4000→3400 LP
"Don't think you're out of the woods yet. River Stormer attacks you directly! Mist Shot!"
Bright's monster positions its barrels and fires three concentrated balls of mist at Aurora, who gestured to her field.
"I activate my Trap Card!" Aurora declared. "Ground Capture! When you declare an attack, I can halve any battle damage from that attack!"
Soon, a giant stone hand erupted from the ground and shielded Aurora temporarily from River Stormer's attack. Despite this, the attack eventually destroyed the giant stone hand, causing her to wince from the backlash of the attack.
Aurora and Lucian: 3400→1250 LP
"Also, if I take 1000 or more damage from that battle, I get to draw one card from my Deck."
"Lucky break…" Guard 1 gnashed his teeth in frustration. "Since River Stormer destroyed your monster by battle, that monster is attached to Earth Slicer as an Overlay Unit."
Aurora scowled as a new light started circling behind River Stormer.

"I place two cards face-down and end my turn, with River Stormer losing the boost it received from Gift of the Martyr."

"My turn! I draw!" Lucian announced. "Since I control no monsters, I can Special Summon Tachyon Caeser from my hand!"
A large warrior in red and black armor wielding a purple sword and shield appeared on Lucian's field.

"Caesar's effect activates! When summoned, I can Special Summon a "Tachyon" monster from my hand or Deck with its effects negated. I Special Summon a second copy of Tachyon Caeser from my Deck!"
A second warrior appeared in Attack Position.

"Lastly, I summon Tachyon Crusher!"
A large humanoid wearing red and black armor wielding a double-sided purple club appeared.

"I activate Tachyon Crusher's effect!" Lucian continued. "When Normal Summoned, I can swap its attack and defense points to have its Level become 8 until my next Standby Phase."

"The time is here! I overlay my Level 8 Tachyon Caesars and Tachyon Crusher!"
Lucian placed his hands in front of him as his Duel Disk glowed. A bolt of crimson energy broke out of his Duel Disk and traveled into the air behind him. The bolt created a massive portal behind him – a blue X with four red dots at the sides.
"With these three monsters, I build the Overlay Network!"
All three monsters broke apart into blue particles and entered the red dots on the side and top, making them glow and causing a red circle to appear around the portal. The four points of the X lit up and fired lasers, creating a swirling galaxy in front of Lucian. The galaxy exploded with energy as he chanted.
"Galaxy lost through time, reawaken and reshape time and space with your roar! Manifest and create the voidless path of absolute victory! I Xyz Summon! Now manifest, Rank 8! Galaxy-Eyes Void Tachyon Dragon!"
A black dragon emerged from the galaxy with a body that almost looked mechanical. It had a violet-purple armor-scaled body with four red-bladed wings that released electricity across each one, making them glow, and yellow eyes with black pupils resembling a universe. Its tail was a sharp red blade resembling a hook, sharp-bladed shield-like hands, and pointy feet with four sharp claws coated in purple energy. The dragon roared from the Extra Monster Zone in Attack Position as two lights orbited it.

"A Rank 8 XYZ monster with 3000 attack points?!" Security Guard 1 exclaimed before composing himself. "I activate the Continuous Trap Card: Fiendish Chain! One monster on the field has its effects negated and cannot attack!"
Numerous chains appeared and bounded Galaxy-Eyes.
"So you're playing defensively, huh?" Lucian raised an eyebrow. "In that case, let me put a dent in your wall. I activate the Spell Card: Xyz Energy! I can destroy one of your cards in exchange for one of Void Tahcyon's Overlay Units. Such as your Fiendish Chain!"
One of Tachyon Dragon's Overlay Units was absorbed into the Spell before a bright blue beam appeared and destroyed Guard 1's Continuous Trap.
Galaxy-Eyes Void Tachyon Dragon OU: 3→2
Lucian gestured to his field. "I activate Void Tachyon Dragon's effect! I can detach an Overlay Unit to banish one monster you control and summon a Galaxy Tachyon Dragon Token whose attack and defense points to become equal to the banished monster's attack or defense points, whichever is higher."
"What?" Guard 1 gasped again as one of the lights struck Void Tachyon Dragon's chest, which erupted with a blue glow.

"I choose River Stormer. Go, Tachyon Illusion!"
Tachyon Dragon's wings emitted a red-black spiral energy wave that ensnared River Stormer. Said monster burst into particles as a particle-like illusion of Void Tachyon Dragon appeared on Lucian's field.

"Battle!" Lucian declared. "Galaxy Tachyon Tachyon Token, attack Infinitrack Crab Crane!"
Tachyon Token unleashed a massive energy beam from its mouth, which struck Crab Crane and easily destroyed it, causing Guard 1 and 2 to wince.

"Void Tachyon Dragon attacks you directly. Tachyon Spiral of Annilihation!"
The dragon roared as its wings and crystals glowed as red energy gathered in its maw.
Guard 1 gritted his teeth before he gestured to his face-down card. "I activate the Trap Card: Nutrient Z! Since I'm about to take 2000 or more points of damage, I gain 4000 Life Points first!"
Within seconds, a purple aura surrounded Guard 1's body.
Security Guard 1 and 2: 2100→6100 LP
The red energy blast hit Guards 1 and 2, knocking them back several feet.

Lucian smirked. "Not bad. "I activate the Quick-Play Spell Card: Mystik Wok! Now, I gain Life Points equal to either its attack or defense points by Tributing a monster I control." He gestured to a certain monster. "I Tribute my Tachyon Dragon Token to gain Life Points equal to its 2500 attack points!"
The token disintegrated as Lucian and Aurora glowed yellow.
Aurora and Lucian: 1250→3750 LP
"I place two cards face-down and end my turn," Lucian concluded. "Let's see what the second Security Guard has to show us."
"My turn! I draw!" Security Guard 2 declared. "I summon Infinitrack Harvester."
A large orange machine appeared with claws on its front and chain track wheels.

"Harvester's effect activates. When it is Normal or Special Summoned, I can add an "Infinitrack" monster from my Deck to my hand. I add Infinitrack Drag Shovel to my hand. I activate the Spell Card: Machine Duplication. By targeting a Machine monster with 500 or fewer attack points, I can Special Summon up to two copies of that monster from my Deck. I summon two more Infinitrack Harvesters!"
Two more orange machines appeared in Attack Position.

"Appear, my circuit! The summoning condition is one non-Link 'Infinitrack' monster. I set Harvester in the Link Marker." One copy of Harvester entered the bottom-right arrow.
"I Link Summon! Appear! Link-1! Infinitrack Goliath!"
A blue and white machine on four chain track legs emerged from the portal at the left of Extra Monster Zone. It had a drill for one hand and a shovel for another.

A bolt of blue energy shot out of Security Guard 2's Duel Disk and created the Xyz cross. Its two monsters turned into data and entered the cross. The ends shot beams of light, creating a galaxy.
"I Xyz Summon! Appear! Rank 7! Infinitrack Mountain Smasher!"
A massive orange loader with blue lines running across its body and chain tracks for wheels emerged from the galaxy, summoned to Goliath's Link Marker in Attack Position with two lights orbiting behind it.

Lucian and Aurora blinked. "A Rank-Up effect?!"
"Using Mountain Smasher, I rebuild the Overlay Network!"
The Xyz cross reappeared, and Mountain Smasher disintegrated into data that entered the cross. The cross's ends fired beams and created a new galaxy.
"Go, Rank-Up Xyz Evolution! Appear, Rank 9! Infinitrack Earth Slicer!"
A massive light brown bucket-wheel excavator with blue lines running over its body emerged from the galaxy with two lights orbiting it, summoned to Goliath's Link Marker in Attack Position.

The Link Monster disintegrated and was replaced by River Stormer.

A fourth light began circling behind Earth Slicer.

Lucian scowled as his Set cards disintegrated. Tachyon Dragon cried out as it exploded.
Lucian smirked. "I activate the effect of the Trap Card: Reverse Engineering that you just destroyed! By banishing it, I can Set a Trap Card that was destroyed, and I can activate that card this turn. I set Final Life Gardna!"
"Next, I activate the Equip Spell Card: Xyz Unit!" Security Guard 2 said. "By equipping this card onto Earth Slicer, it increases its attack points by 200 multiplied by its Rank! Since Earth Slicer is Rank 9, it gains 1800 attack points!"

"Battle!" Security Guard 2 declared. "Earth Slicer attacks you directly!"
Earth Slicer charged forward, the blades on its front wheel spinning.
"I activate the Trap Card: Final Life Gardna!" Lucian declared. "If our Life Points would become 0 from an attack, we can make them 100 instead and end the Battle Phase."
An armored knight wielding two large shields appeared in front of Lucian and Aurora and blocked Earth Slicer's blades. Shortly after, Lucian and Aurora grimaced as a crimson aura surrounded their bodies.
Aurora and Lucian: 3750→100 LP
"Tch, so you managed to escape defeat…." Security Guard 2 clicked his tongue in irritation. "No matter. Your futile struggle is only delaying the inevitable. I place a card face-down and end my turn."
Aurora grit her teeth. "We won't lose here," she muttered. "Not again. After everything we've been through, and after Kelvin set us free…." Her eyes narrowed at the two guards. We will have our revenge! We will succeed here! My turn! I draw!" She looked at her card and smirked. Perfect.
"Since you control a monster and I don't, I can Special Summon Tundra Eagle from my hand!"
An eagle with white feathers and ice talons appeared and screeched.

"Then I activate the Spell Card Blizzard Vision!" Aurora continued. "Since I control a Water monster, I can Special Summon this card as a Normal Monster with the same Type, Attribute, and Level! So, I summon a copy of Tundra Eagle!"
Blizzard Vision took on the shape of Tundra Eagle but with 0 attack and defense points.

The guards narrowed their eyes. "She has two Level 5 monsters," he noted. "That means…"
"I overlay my Level 5 Tundra Eagle and Blizzard Vision!"
A bolt of blue energy shot out of Aurora's Duel Disk, creating the Xyz cross behind her.
"With these two monsters, I build the Overlay Network!"
Her monsters disintegrated into data and entered the red dots. The ends of the cross-fired beams created a galaxy of energy.
"Ruler of the frozen night! Travel to new heights through our frozen evolution!" Aurora chanted. "I Xyz Summon! Rank 5! Ice Princess Zereort!"
A female monster with pale skin covered in dark blue crystals appeared in the Right Extra Monster Zone. She also carried a yellow scythe as a weapon. Two blue lights circled it.

"I don't know what you're planning, but I won't allow it!" Security Guard 2 exclaimed. "I activate the Trap Card: Spin Turn! I can destroy my opponent's monster by changing my Attack Position Earth Machine Xyz Monster to Defense Position. I change Earth Slicer to Defense Position and destroy Ice Princess Zereort!"
Said monster shifted twice, then Aurora's Xyz Monster disappeared.
"So much for your friend's mighty Xyz Monster," Security Guard 1 said.
"You two are fools," Lucian said, catching the guards' attention. "Just because my partner lost her monster doesn't mean she's out for the count."
"What do you mean?" Security Guard 2 asked, confused. "Thanks to my Trap Card, you have no monsters to defend yourself with. Meaning, on my teammate's next turn, he'll finish the both of you."
"Is that so?" Aurora asked as she took a card from her hand. "Let me show you the real strength of my Deck! I activate the Quick-Play Spell Card: Rank-Up-Magic Frozen Force!"
"A Rank-Up-Magic?" Both guards said, surprised.
The card showed an image of Ice Beast Zerofyne breaking out of an iceberg. "I can activate this card if a Water Xyz Monster on my field is destroyed by battle or card effect and sent to the Graveyard. Now I Special Summon the destroyed monster back to my field!"
Zereort reappeared on Aurora's field, only without Overlay Units this time.

"Now," Aurora continued, "I Special Summon a Water Xyz Monster from my Extra Deck that is 1 Rank higher than the Summoned monster!"
Aurora raised her Duel Disk, releasing a bolt of blue energy from her Duel Disk that traveled behind her. A large black X with four blue dots around it appeared behind her in a flash of light.
"With this one Xyz Monster, I rebuild the Overlay Network!"
The blue "X" reappeared, and Zereort disintegrated and entered the top blue dot. The ends of the "X" shot lasers that formed the exploding galaxy. A chain of DNA appeared before reintegrating into a purple orb.
"Let your frozen beauty reign over the land!" Aurora chanted. "Go, Rank-Up Xyz Evolution! Appear, Rank 6! Ice Queen Zerona!"
A light blue beautiful winged creature with a feminine body as her body is covered in white ice-like shards that resemble a dress, see-through crystal wings, sharp blue blades coming out from each arm and a blue crystal-like crown as it appeared in the Right Extra Monster Zone, as two orbs of blue lights circled it.
Ice Queen Zerona ATK 2800 DEF 2600 RNK: 6 OU: 1
"She Ranked Up her Xyz Monster?" Guard 1 and 2 said in wonder.
"Ice Queen Zerona's effect activates!" Glacia continued. "When it is Special Summoned, all other cards on the field cannot have their effects activated, and other cards' effects are also negated for the rest of this turn, plus you cannot activate cards or effects in response to this effect!"
"What?!" Both guards shouted, their eyes wide.
"Go! Field Freeze!"
Zerona spread her wings as she whipped up a powerful blizzard surrounding her opponent's field, encasing their cards in ice.
"Next, I activate the Spell Card: Aurora Draw. Since I have no other cards in my hand, I get to draw two cards," Aurora drew her cards, looked at them and smiled. "I activate the Spell Card: Armored Xyz! This card equips an Xyz Monster in our Graveyard to an Xyz Monster on our field! While it is equipped with that monster, the equipped monster takes that monster's name and attack points! I equip Void Tachyon Dragon from Lucian's Graveyard to Ice Queen Zerona!"
Tachyon Dragon reappeared on the field, turned into light and surrounded Queen Zerona. Zerona gained Void's shoulder guards, armor and wings.

"W-What is this?" Security Guard 2 said, trembling before Lucian's and Aurora's Xyz Monsters. "What is this!?"
"This is the power of mine and Aurora's dueling!" Lucian told him.
"Battle!" Aurora declared. "Go, Zerona, which is rechristened as Void Tachyon Dragon! Attack River Stormer! And at this moment, I activate the Quick-Play Spell Card: Xyz Breakthrough!" The card showed Gaia Dragon, the Thunder Charger enveloped in wind, its lances piercing through multiple magical circles. "By targeting Void Tachyon Dragon, it can inflict piercing battle damage this turn!"
"What?" Security Guard 1 and 2 gasped.
"I target Galaxy-Eyes Void Tachyon Dragon!"
Zerona narrowed her eyes at River Stormer before slamming her arm blades together in an "X" shape stance, slicing it in half. Security Guard 2 flinched from his monster's destruction and the damage.
Security Guard 1 and 2: 3100→600 LP
"Armored Xyz has one final effect," Lucian told the guard while smiling at him. "By sending Tachyon Dragon to the Graveyard, Ice Queen Zerona can attack again."
"What?" Security Guard 1 said, a horrified expression on his face.
"I send Galaxy-Eyes to the Graveyard!" Aurora declared. Void Tachyon's shoulder guards, armor and wings disintegrated, leaving only Ice Queen Zerona. "Now Zerona can attack again!"

"Battle! Ice Queen Zerona, attack them directly! Double Frozen Slash!"
Zerona's swords became engulfed in blue flames before swinging them at the two guards, sending them off the ground and landing on their backs.

"That was a waste of precious time," Lucian stated.
"Regardless, we haven't dueled in three months, so it's better to duel someone weak than no one," Aurora pointed out. The two kept running to the back entrance.
BEEP! BEEP! BEEP!
Several jail cells suddenly opened at once, releasing the many prisoners there. Upon seeing what happened, a massive revolt happened, and the guards were now focused on detaining the prison riot.
"There you guys are!"
Aurora and Lucian looked to their left, seeing Kelvin run to them.
"That was your doing?" Lucian asked him.
"What can I say? I like causing mischief," Kelvin answered.
"Same here. Looks like we'll get along just fine." Lucian stated.
"I second that." Aurora agreed.
"Let's go!" Kelvin told the duo as they exited the prison and headed for the dock. Upon entering the boat, they embarked on it before speeding away far from the offshore maximum security prison.
LINK VRAINS: Unknown Location...
Umbra emerged from a portal as he appeared in LINK VRAINS. More specifically, the location where his group was secretly located. Following behind him were Glacia and Astro. The two gasped as he walked into the hall. It was a massive place, supported by black and white pillars. And over the door, he just walked in, and the door on the opposite side of the room hung a symbol. A purple diamond with red outlines.
Natura stood in the center of the hall and smiled as the trio walked into the room. "Ah, I'm glad you didn't manage to get yourself captured. Did you erase any evidence they can use to track you?"
Umbra narrowed his eyes. "Of course I did," He then turned to Glacia and Astro. "The woman you see before you is named Natura. The others you're about to meet follow us."
Following his words, Glacia and Astro walked behind Umbra and Natura as they approached another door. Umbra pushed open the door and revealed a massive circular room with stairs on the far side leading to the higher levels. In the center of the room, four individuals stood: three in armor and robes and the last skeletal in appearance.
"Look, everyone. Umbra has finally returned with the cavalry," Desperado announced.
"We see them, Desperado," Ladon said.
"Heh. We're better off without them," Galerius said, looking Glacia and Astro up and down as they, Natura and Umbra, walked in. "A little bounty hunter like him won't last long here."
Glacia and Astro scowled and glared at Galerius, who just chuckled.
"Be polite, Galerius," Lumine said. "We do not want to give him the wrong impression." She stepped forward, her cape swinging behind him. "I am Lumine. A member of the Syndicate. The others are Galerius, Desperado, Ladon and Lumine. You already know Natura and Umbra."
The duo nodded. "Hello. I'm Astro. And this is my partner, Glacia. We're pleased to meet… most of you."
Galerius chuckled at that, but Astro and Glacia paid him no mind.
"Just to let you two know, we know about your past," The duo turned to Desperado. "Roget hired you to deal with Ringmaster and his friends but sadly failed."
Astro blinked. "You know about Roget?"
"Of course, we know him. We were the ones who gave him the resources needed to create the Arbiters but look where that ended him. Not to mention the two of you."
Glacia's eyes narrowed. "You better watch your mouth."
"I'd listen to her if I were you," Astro said. "You wouldn't like Glacia when she's angry."
Galerius laughed again. "Oh, please. To us, your skills are that of a newbie. You wouldn't last a single turn against one of us."
Glacia and Astro gritted their teeth and glared at Galerius and Desperado. They stepped forward and-
"Enough!" Everyone gasped and stepped back as Queen Priscilla entered the room from the stairs. "Galerius and Desperado, cease your antagonization of Umbra's recruits! We cannot afford to have division among us."
The Syndicate members growled and crossed their arms.
The woman reached the group, revealing her eyes behind spectacles. She smiled at the two bounty hunters. "You must be Glacia and Astro, the ones Umbra suggested we recruit. Here in LINK VRAINS, I am Queen Priscilla. I assume Umbra has informed you why he recruited the two of you?"
Astro nodded. "Yeah. As you're aware, Glacia and I were hired by Roget to stop Ringmaster and his allies from interfering with his plans."
"Unfortunately, we failed, as Storm Rider defeated us," Glacia continued. "Ever since then, we've harbored revenge against and will do whatever it takes to make it happen."
Priscilla's smile widened. "I'm glad you remembered. And I do apologize for the cloak and dagger, but secrecy is a powerful weapon, and we must maintain ours."
"No, we get it," Astro said. "There's been many times we kept things hidden from others."
The women in white and gold chuckled. Our partnership will go well for both of us. Now before I tell you anymore, I need to know." Her face turned into a serious frown. "You know little about our group. And what our goal is. Will you fight for us? Will you work with us to achieve our goal?"
Glacia and Astro frowned and glanced at Galerius and Desperado but quickly returned their gaze to Priscilla.
"We're not averse to working with… tolerable associates, so long as they keep their distance," Glacia replied.
"That's good to hear," Priscilla said. "By the way, are the two of you aware of the current status of the Queen?"
Astro blinked in surprise. "Of course. She was attacked by a rogue SOLtis and was left unconscious."
"A few weeks later, she recovered but was sadly let go by the board of SOL Technologies, and Akira Zaizen became the new CEO," Glacia added. "But what does that have to do with you?"
"The answer to your question will be revealed soon enough," Priscilla said. "To summarize, SOL has done a horrible job keeping LINK VRAINS in check. They failed at stopping the Knights of Hanoi from destroying LINK VRAINS. They failed to stop the war between the Ignis. And to top it all off, they failed to keep the Code Keys safe from a rogue SOLtis."
"She does have a point," Glacia agreed. "I mean, after all the threats LINK VRAINS has faced, you think SOL Technologies would have their guard up."
"No joke. They didn't have enough reinforcements to stop the Arbiters when they first attacked," Astro added.
"If Ringmaster, Maestra, and their Lancer friends didn't show up, the Top 10 wouldn't have a chance against the Arbiters. With them gone, Storm Rider and his friends are useless. SOL Technologies needs someone with authority and determination to look after everything. The Top 10 needs to be replaced with a new one."
"That's where the two of you and the six of us come in," Umbra said. "We would like your assistance in making Queen Priscilla's dream a reality.
"Okay. So you want us the fight against LINK VRAINS' Top 10?" Glacia asked. "We're all for that. But last I check, there are eight of us in total. Where's the other two?"
"The other two are currently training," Priscilla answered. "You'll meet them once they're finished."
"Is that so?" Astro said. "No amount of training a duelist does can topple me."
"I'm sorry. Who here has lost against Storm Rider?" Desperado snarkily asked, causing Astro to grit his teeth.
Glacia returned her focus to Priscilla. "So the plan is to eliminate the Top 10 and take over SOL, right? If that's the case, why don't we ambush them now while we have the element of surprise?"
"If there's one thing I learned, to carry out a plan, you must be cautious," Priscilla replied. "Which is why I want to conduct a little experiment."
Pressing a few buttons on her Duel Disk, a digital card with a syringe crossed over it popped out, which she took and showed to everyone.
"This program contains a virus that will put everyone in LINK VRAINS into a coma. Once SOL Technologies witness this catastrophe, they'll have to send their precious Top 10 to deal with the matter."
"And that's when we can exact our revenge against Storm Rider?" Astro questioned.
"Unfortunately, no," Priscilla said. "I'll have one of our gang leaders face them instead to test their skills to see if we need to strengthen our forces. That said, I'll need one of you to accompany one of our squads to distribute the program. Which one of you would like to volunteer?"
"That'll be yours truly," Desperado said. "It's boring being cooped up here, and I would love to participate in the action."
"Then it's settled. Glacia and Astro, I would like for the two of you to accompany Desperado and the others. I'll provide you disguises so the enemy won't recognize you."
"There's no need," Glacia said. "Astro and I have a program that camouflages us. So we won't be seen by anyone."
"Very well. If nobody has any questions, you're free to depart."
"I have just one thing to say to you two," Desperado said. "Don't get in my way."
"Funny. I was about to say the same thing to you," Astro said.
"Whatever. Let's go and get the others prepared for the mission."
"Before we go, I want to say something," Glacia said as she narrowed her eyes at Umbra. "I want to thank you for freeing Astro and me. You've helped us greatly, and we can't repay that. We just want one promise." She turned back to Priscilla. "You make sure you give us the power we need to successfully get our revenge against Storm Rider, understand?"
The woman smiled. "But of course. What's mine is yours. Feel free to use my resources however you like."
Following her words, Priscilla logged out of the room.
"Just out of curiosity, what is this goal of yours?" Astro asked.
"That's not your concern." Astro blinked and looked back at Ladon, the one who spoke. "There is a plan in motion. If all goes well, then you will only need to duel. And you will receive your reward."
Astro scoffed as he, Desperado and Glacia excited the room.
"This might sound mean, but I'm hoping Desperado fails," Natura said.
"And why is that?" Umbra asked.
"Because then we can enjoy hearing Queen Priscilla scold him."
"You may be grown, but you can be childish sometimes," Lumine said.
"Potato, potahto," Natura replied as she logged out. Followed by Umbra, Lumine, Ladon and Galerius.

Next time on Yu-Gi-Oh! VRAINS: Advent of New Beginnings. Chapter 59: An Unexpected Enemy. After stopping Roget and the Arbiters, Yuji and his friends returned to peaceful lives. However, a mysterious program has made everyone in LINK VRAINS comatose. It's now up to Storm Rider and the rest of the Top 10 to save everyone and find out the person or people behind this.

We introduce a new evil group known as the Syndicate. As you already know from the chapter, they were responsible for gifting Roget the resources needed to create the Arbiters. You'll find that out later in the story for those wondering about their origin. The council is known to be the strongest of the Syndicate. In terms of strength, it's Natura, Desperado, Umbra, Lumine, Ladon, Galerius and Queen Priscilla. Think of them as the Dark Signers of LINK VRAINS and the Top 10 as the Signers.
With Glacia and Astro now recruited, they'll become future council members. As for the other two unknown members, they'll make their debut about halfway through the story.
