Disclaimer: I don't own RWBY. The show belongs to Monty Oum and Rooster Teeth. (I think).

(A/N)

What if I made a character that had the powers of the Night Stalker? I'll remove some of his skills and replace them with other video game characters later in future chapters. They won't be too overpowered though. I will also be mostly sticking to the already laid out plot of RWBY with a bit of variation from the original.

For now, chit-chat will have to wait. In the meantime, sit back, relax, and enjoy my fic!

Hi, I'm Ian Blue. And yes that is my name. Well… Not really. It's because I forgot my actual name I was given when I was just a wee lil' boy. And the reason for that is simple: I died. For context, let's go far back in time before my inevitable demise and near the start of my grand adventure!

Flashback…

The streetlights were flickering, nocturnal bugs coming out to sing and hunt. It was just any other quiet night. The cold wind rushed through my body as I rode on my bike around town. It was my daily routine. I would come home from school, do my chores, and when it was nearing nighttime, I would immediately ask my mother if I could go outside.

Tonight was a tad bit different from the rest. I checked my phone to see that it was already 7:45 PM. My eyes widened as if I had plates for eyes. Followed by my entire nervous system going absolutely haywire. Figuratively. And I knew my dumbass would surely get an earful if I got back home late. So I swiftly turned my bike around and pedaled home like my life depended on it.

But what I didn't take into consideration was a truck going super duper fast, just around the corner. It hit my bike and sent me flying across the street like a ragdoll into a glass window. Due to the sudden impact, I didn't feel anything. So I stood up and walked out of the window, shocking the worried bystanders. Especially the truck driver.

My face was what you would call nightmare fuel. A big shard of glass had cut a third of my head, revealing my blood-soaked brain as I dusted off my shirt. And due to the many other shards of sharp glass that impaled my chest, hands, legs, the adrenaline left my system mere moments later. Falling face first in the middle of the road, splashing blood and pieces of my brain everywhere.

End of Flashback.

So here I am. A lonely apparition floating in a vast, empty void. It's been a long time since my saddening death. I don't even know what time it is right now. I was about to close my eyes and drift off into 'dreamland' when the sudden sound of flapping wings and monster-like breathing stopped me from doing so.

'How is this possible? Why is there another being in here with me?' I shook off all the looming questions and turned to face the unknown entity… I couldn't believe it, I thought my eyes were deceiving me,

It was none other than Balanar, the Night Stalker. But this Balanar was different. He appeared more bat-like than demon. His skin tone is a dark blue, with green pupiless eyes and red armored leggings.

He then spoke in a deep and raspy voice, akin to a bat vigilante some of you may already know.

[ At last, I have finally found you. I thought it would've taken centuries to find you. I was getting bored of just flying around. ]

I asked him just to make sure, "Are you perhaps… Balanar? The Night Stalker?"

He posed with pride and a smug on his face before replying,

[ Why yes I am, the one and only beast of bedtime tales. It seems we won't need much introduction as I already read your scroll. Let's get to the point, you were given a second chance at life by the Ancients. ]

Intrigued by this, I ask once more.

"Why me?"

[ You were the only one to have a deep connection to them both, it was like you were devoted, they said. As for the scroll… It contains the story of your life till death. Pretty interesting if i do say so myself. ]

Wow, that was… Something. And I never thought that playing both Dota 1 and 2 for an ungodly amount of time on a 'crappy computer' was going to pay off. Take that highschool bullies!

Now I'm pretty knowledgeable when this kind of stuff happens, It usually comes with a mission or some fantasy shit like killing a demon king.

So that is exactly what i asked,

"Am I being bestowed with some kind of mission?"

He rubbed his chin for a few moments before responding,

[ I believe not, they sent me to take care of this as the others were busy celebrating Diretide… Again. ] 'Batman' sighed and slumped forward a little bit as he finished.

Diretide… I forgot about that event. It was pretty fun too. Oh, the memories are flooding back to me. The glitches, the bugs, the trolling and tomfoolery, and the times I almost wanted to break my pc because some fucker used N'aix's Infest ability on a greevil.

The oversized bat spoke once more, snapping me out of my stupor.

[ Now before I send you off on the behalf of the Ancients, they also tasked me with giving you these. You may only carry three. ] He then opened a portal and showed me six items.

The first is a beautiful curved dagger, which bestows the wielder with teleportation.

The second is the preserved heart of an ancient, extinct beast which bolsters the fortitude of the bearer.

The third is an eye belonging to a Goddess of Winter, once guarded by mighty azure dragons. It enchants the user's weapon to slow down an enemy when hit.

The fourth is a chestplate, which had been forged in the depths of hell itself. This hellish mail grants the user and their allies with increased protection and faster attacks.

The fifth is an ax, made of reflective materials that are able to confuse the enemy.

The last item was the scepter of a powerful wizard with demigod-like powers. It glows brightly as if it was empowered by a blessing.

I inspect every item with great vigilance and care as these can help me tremendously if the need arises. Though it didn't take long as i knew exactly what i wanted. When I touched the dagger, It instantly teleported to my waist with a strap.

The second item was the eye. It floated in the air with snowflake bits falling from its edges. After a few moments, the eye slowly went and replaced my right one. Surprisingly, I didn't feel any pain, as if it was there my whole life.

And lastly, the cuirass. The moment my finger made contact, It turned into a glowing orb and went inside my body. Eventually transforming itself into a simple white t-shirt. It came along with gray-ish pants, navy blue shoes, a dark blue jacket, and a pair of blue socks. Can't forget the socks y'know?

And yes it's kinda simple, but that's fine with me as long as i don't have to walk around without any clothes on. After I got changed, He then explained some more stuff to me, gave me some of his power as a bonus and was about to send me on my way. But let me tell you… It was not going to be comfortable at all.

[ Okay, that was all I needed to explain. I suppose you are ready to go. Well, It was nice to have your acquaintance. ] The Night Stalker then grinned maliciously before snapping his fingers. Opening a portal below me, I look back at him and scream,

"You son of a b-WAHHH!" Before my sentence could reach its climax, I'm now suddenly free falling. Headed straight for the ground. I look to my side and see… Snowflakes? Let's not discuss that right now. Thinking fast, I grabbed the dagger and threw it as hard as I could.

A few moments later, I disappeared in a blink and reappeared back in an open field, safe and sound. I looked up and saw small, dissipating blue particles. Must've been from the dagger. I lied back down as small flakes of snow came down from above whilst I caught my breath. I'm gonna be honest, I don't like high places.

I then got up, dusted myself off, and discerned my surroundings. As evident by the snow lying around, it's currently winter in this new world. So far this place seemed normal, that is until… I looked at the moon. My jaw came straight off from its place and down to the ground for a few moments before I put it back in place once more.

I'm no scientist but this shouldn't be possible. A broken moon? If that happened on Earth, It would have been Catastrophic, I tell ya. And while I was running around in circles not knowing what to do, a sudden roar from the distance stopped me in my tracks.

I looked in the direction of the sound and stood my ground, as the bushes shook in a reckless motion. I quickly backed away and checked if I had a weapon on me. But surprise, surprise… I didn't have one except for the dagger. And while I was busy with that, the creature hiding in the bushes finally showed itself to me.

The beast's fur was very dark, with bones protruding throughout its entire body. But what stood out was the bone mask it wore on its face. We stared at each other for a good while, waiting to see who would make the first move. I gripped my dagger tight whilst the beast let out a low growl.

And all of the sudden, It swiftly ran towards me with killing intent. Not risking my dagger to break, I came to an easy conclusion… Run the fuck away. So I turned around, tossed the dagger, and took off faster than a blue ball of fur. Fortunately, I also found some sort of school nearby whilst I was falling from the sky a while ago.

I know I could've just used my Night Stalker form and completely demolished that thing, but I don't actually know how to fight. Yeah sure I can throw a punch or two, but I can't outlast or beat something that big. As the saying goes, "live now, fight another day."

After running away like a little wuss, the dagger teleported me to a cliff overlooking the aforementioned school. It's nearly as tall as a skyscraper! I can even see the lavishness of it from here, all thanks to slightly enhanced eyesight during the night.

As I gaped at the beautiful sight before my azure eyes, down below I saw a man and a woman walking towards the direction where I'm currently sitting. I decided to wait for them and enjoy the view a little while longer.

After exactly two hours of waiting, they finally made it. I heard their footsteps becoming more and more audible. And there we were, face to face. Not really though, I haven't turned around yet. I then spoke to them,

"Quite big for a school don't you think mister? It looks more like a castle to be completely honest." I heard the man chuckle before responding,

"It does, but we have something else to talk about. You are not of this world… Are you?" I slightly winced when he said that. But how did they see me? Do they have drones here? I'm not one to keep secrets that much so before I turned, I asked him,

"Hey mister, do you believe in monsters?" He paused for a few moments before replying,

"Yes i do young man." When he finished, I began transforming. Majestic blue wings with hints of red sprouted from my back, I grew taller as my skin turned blue, my pants turned into the red armored leggings Balanar wore, my feet turned into hooves, and lastly, my head began getting completely wrapped in a blue substance. Eventually forming the face.

I turned around and introduced myself, my voice staying the same.

"The name's Ian Blue, but you might also call me… A Night Stalker." I was expecting them to get scared but guess I was wrong.

They only backed away for a bit before introducing themselves as well. "It seems I was right. I am Ozpin, the woman beside me is Glynda Goodwitch." He motioned to her as she gave a slight wave, I too returned the gesture. And to not bore you with our long conversation, I'll sum it up. I explained to them how, and why I got here. And after hearing my life story, he told me my other form reminded him of a Faunus. So I was like, "What's that?" He then told me everything he knew about that i didn't know about this world and offered me a place to stay.

The catch? Enroll in his school and pass Initiation. So he's the principal, and I'm guessing Glynda is his assistant. I agreed and asked when I would be attending along with the other students, he said I had a week to prepare and inquired if I had a weapon.

I shook my head and told him that I don't have anything. And of course I didn't tell him about the items. They talked for a bit before he gave me a handful of Lien, the currency of this world. I thanked him before flying off into the snowy night sky.

One Week Later…

Greetings dear reader! Ian is still asleep inside this fancy airship so will be taking it from here. You may call me… Mr. Narrator. I was once human just like Ian here, and then reincarnated to be a voice inside his head. Yes it does not make much sense, so let us leave that question unanswered for now shall we?

Ian's eyes slowly open as the sound of the airship's sudden stop can be heard. He takes a deep breath and stands up before heading to the doors, waiting for them to open.

'Wait a second… Who is this? Why are you in my head?'

I will introduce myself later, but for now you must go.

'Okay…'

Do not mind me and keep on walking. Now where were we? Ah right. As Ian paced forward, taking in the majestic view of the school for a second time, he heard an explosion in the distance. Two girls were in the middle of said explosion, one clad in red, the other in white. They were arguing about Dust it seems. But Ian was not the type of person to pry too much on others' business and so walked past them and headed inside.

Following that, he asked around if they knew where the auditorium was, but had no luck whatsoever. So Ian ran around until he finally found the place, and thanks to increased stamina, he didn't even break a sweat. Some waiting later, Ian's attention is drawn to the stage when a familiar face stepped up to the microphone.

"I'll... keep this brief. You have traveled here today in search of knowledge, to hone your craft and acquire new skills, and when you have finished, you plan to dedicate your life to the protection of the people. But I look amongst you, and all I see is wasted energy, in need of purpose, direction. You assume knowledge will free you of this, but your time at this school will prove that knowledge can only carry you so far. It is up to you to take the first step."

Ian clapped slowly as to not attract the attention to himself. After the speech, Glynda stepped up and instructed them to gather in the ballroom, get some well deserved rest, and prepare for the Initiation tomorrow. Armed with his sleeping gear and a dream, Ian finds the perfect spot to hit the hay. But before that, he went to the bathroom and took off everything except for the pants and t-shirt.

His figure was fairly normal, he recalls going to the gym from time to time for a moment whilst looking in the mirror, and after brushing his teeth, fixing his hair, he went straight to bed. Completely ignoring the two girls beside him. Who were they, you ask? The girl in red I mentioned earlier. And next to her, was a nosebleeding blonde.

The birds outside chirped with delight as the sun rose from the east, its comforting warmth lingered throughout the entire ballroom, eventually causing Ian to stir awake from his slumber. He looked to his sides and saw that almost everyone was still asleep, so he tiptoed away and went to the bathroom. After a quick refreshing shower, he walked out and headed for the cafeteria. On the way there, he conversed with me. Once again ignoring the gazing eyes of the other students who just woke up.

'So, what's your name?'

You may call me… Mr. Narrator.

'Don't you have a proper name?'

I don't young man. As I forgot mine like yours.

'Well that's a bummer, how about I give you a name then?' Ian asked, he also seems very enthusiastic today.

Hmm… Alright, sounds fun. I replied as he eyed all of the food.

'Ooh, they got waffles and pancakes. They also have maple syrup! Yes!' He raises his arms in victory with obvious joy, before putting some of the fluffy confections on a plate and finding a place to sit.

'Okay, how does Gene Carmicheal sound?' He said whilst munching on a waffle. I thought about it for a few moments, Gene Carmicheal? Doesn't have that much extravagance but who cares? A name is a name.

Just then, both of us Glynda's voice coming from the speakers,

"Would all first-year students please report to Beacon Cliff for initiation? Again, all first-year students report to Beacon Cliff immediately."

"Welp, guess we gotta go." Ian finished up his meal and headed for Bacon- I mean Beacon Cliff. All of the other students in the cafeteria followed as well.

At Beacon Cliff…

The students gathered before a caffeine-drinking Ozpin and Glynda. The Headmaster then cleared his throat, instigating the students to listen.

"For years, you have trained to become warriors, and today, your abilities will be evaluated in the Emerald Forest." He then took a swig of his drink before Glynda took over.

"Now, I'm sure many of you have heard rumors about the assignment of "teams." Well, allow us to put an end to your confusion. Each of you will be given teammates... today."

The students merely nodded, then Ozpin spoke once more,

"These teammates will be with you for the rest of your time here at Beacon. So it is in your best interest to be paired with someone with whom you can work well."

"That being said, the first person you make eye contact with after landing will be your partner for the next four years."

Upon hearing this, the students had mixed feelings. Some were overjoyed, others were worried, and the rest were nervous.

"After you've partnered up, make your way to the northern end of the forest. You will meet opposition along the way. Do not hesitate to destroy everything in your path... or you will die." Ozpin said in a serious tone, trying to get his message across to the students.

Now most of them were genuinely scared, like a certain blonde boy in the back, he nervously chuckled and rubbed the back of his head.

"You will be monitored and graded through the duration of your initiation, but our instructors will not intervene. You will find an abandoned temple at the end of the path containing several relics. Each pair must choose one and return to the top of the cliff. Are there any questions?"

Silence was what he got as an answer. Satisfied, he then motioned for them to step on one of the platforms.

Then one by one, left and right, teens were flying everywhere. Including Ian. Ozpin took one last look of apathy at his students, before taking another sip of his drink.

'Oh god! What is wrong with you Ozpin!? You could have just made us run to the forest!' Ian thought to himself as he screamed at the top of his lungs. He did mention to you that he doesn't like heights right? He then looked around and saw some familiar faces: Yellow to his left equipped with bracelet shotguns, and Red to his right with a high caliber sniper. But White and the other blonde were nowhere to be seen. Ian then threw the dagger in Yellow's direction, teleporting him to a tree it stuck to.

He brushed himself off and took out the weapon resting on his back within its scabbard. Ian then sat down on a branch as he inspected his sword. It is a beautiful Ninjato that can turn into a sword whip with just a flick of his hand. Not much stands out from his weapon aside from it turning into a whip, and it's other form I almost forgot to mention, an 1876 Winchester Centennial.

Ian sheathed the sword and waited for the pommel to pop out. When he pressed it, the sword folded a few times whilst making mechanical noises, transforming into the aforementioned gun. But before he could bask in all its glory, the tree he sat upon started shaking violently. He looked down and saw an Ursa Major. Basically, a bear that's the size of… Your Mom. Okay i was joking about the last part, I reckon it's as tall and chunky as a full grown polar bear.

Ian maintained his composure and jumped on the Ursa's head, the beast staggered back a bit before looking its prey dead in the eyes. It geared back its arm and slammed it down; when the dust cleared, its prey could not be found. Instead, Ian was running up the oversized bear's arm. But before he could get a hit in, the bear swatted him away like a fly; crashing into a handful of trees. Ian wiped the blood he coughed out from his mouth and landed on his feet before shooting the Ursa's weak spots with Electric Dust Rounds, and when combined with the power of the Eye, the Ursa almost couldn't move from the cold and shocking combo (No pun intended). Ian then took this opportunity to throw the blink dagger into the beast's dome and chop its head clean off with the ninjato, killing it in the process. Blue boy then dusted himself off and headed in the direction of the ruined temple.

After running for god knows how long, Ian finally heard something for once; and that would be the loud screeches of a Nevermore, circling above the temple. Ian once again took out the dagger and aimed it in the massive bird's direction, eventually hitting a stone pillar behind Yellow.

"And did someone just throw a dagger at me?" she asked her acquaintances and sister, the former were as confused as Yellow. Whilst her sister being a weapons enthusiast, began fangirling the weapon. Red spoke faster than my dad leaving me for the milk so I didn't know what she said.

They backed away a bit when the dagger slightly moved, dissipating into blue particles moments later. And in its place was Ian. He twirled the dagger on his finger before putting it away.

"Great! The gang's all here! Now we can die together!" Ian deadpanned at Yellow's sarcastic remark and replied with one of the cringiest puns I have ever heard.

"That's pretty Grimm, If i do say so myself." Almost instantly, everyone except Yellow groaned in annoyance. Instead, she started laughing and gave Ian a high-five. Seems they're gonna get along pretty well.

"Not if I can help it!" Red stated proudly; charging head first straight for the Deathstalker. But Ian managed to take out his weapon and drag Red back to them, almost getting hit by one of the beast's large pincers.

He then flicked her in the forehead, causing her to slightly pout. "You shouldn't always go guns blazing like that alright?"

Then blondie number two chimed in, "Guys, that thing's circling back. What're we gonna do?" He asked in a mildly scared tone as he pointed at the flying abomination above them.

"There's no point in fighting these things, I say we get a piece and book it." Ian suggested which everyone agreed with. Blondie number two goes and grabs a white rook piece, red takes a white knight, and lastly, Ian snatches a crystal king piece.

"Now that we got the pieces, hold onto me. I'm gonna toss this dagger as hard as I can." He said as each of them grabbed on, they disappeared in a blue flash soon afterwards.

(A/N) I've gotta end it there as I have worked on this for way too long now that it's almost Christmas. I'm sorry if my writing style is not your cup of tea. But whether you liked it or not, please leave a review so I just might learn a thing or two. I'm just a beginner after all.
