The Second Annual Hunger Games
Introduction:
Panem was still recovering massively after the Dark Days during year two PDD (Post Dark Days). After the success of the Hunger Games last in year terrifying the Districts and entertaining the Capitol, President Ravinstill first move in the new year was to sign the Hunger Games to last for Two-Thousand years at minimum. His second act was to enact the Mentor programme. Illinois Katrick, Victor of the First Annual Hunger Games, was tasked with mentoring the tributes from District Six, while the other eleven Districts would be mentored by Peacekeepers from the Capitol. Meanwhile, Carolina Portwee stepped up as the first ever Head Gamemaker. She designed a nice simple Arena for the first arena, as resources were slightly limited. These games were also the first Hunger Games where the tributes were allowed to train for three days before entering the arena.
The tributes of the Second Annual Hunger Games contained the first ever alliance between tributes from multiple Districts, with the girl from one, pair from Two, boy from Four and girl from Eleven team up. Leviticus, the boy from Two, was a natural with the katana, while his District Partner, Cassandra, favoured the sword. Both were trained slightly by their Peacekeeper mentor for a few months. The District Four boy, Anchor, was able to use a spear as an extension of his arm. Meadows, from Eleven, was very skilled with a sickle due to her work in one of the only wheat fields in Eleven, where they provide the wheat for the cows that produce milk. The big star of these Hunger Games was Angelina Moonbeam from District One. This girl was the first ever volunteer in the history of the Hunger Games. During the reaping, Angelina leapt forward and shouted the words to volunteer. She knew how to use a variety of weapons. This alliance and the similar one the next year were the reasons that, from the Fourth Annual Hunger Games, there were scores.
The other tributes were a mixed bag. There was a mixture of strong and weak. The pair from Seven were strong like last years pair, and the boy from Eleven was strong as well. All the other tributes were quite weak. The Capitols audience attention was also on the pair from Six, due to last years winner, Illinois, coming from Six. However, Rover and Sophia were quite weak, unlike Illinois from last year. However, time would only tell who would step out of the Arena alive. Angelina was the only Volunteer this year. Here are the tributes:
District One: Fabulous Montgomery, 14, and Angelina Moonbeam, 18
District Two: Leviticus Bramitol, 18, and Cassandra Batofel, 17
District Three: Wire Judas, 14 and Circ Beepa, 16
District Four: Anchor Fisher, 16 and Wave Lipus, 12
District Five: Astroe Silsa, 17 and Swift Argon, 14
District Six: Rover Pesmiani, 14 and Sophia Meisha, 16
District Seven: Connor Williams, 16 and Cherry Bateye, 15
District Eight: Dolman Zolsa, 18 and Lilah Ditter, 13
District Nine: Achlys Halors, 15 and Ziti Pliyer, 15
District Ten: Cutlet Frost, 13 and Lamba Port, 18
District Eleven: Orchard Kimmert, 15 and Meadows Crimmond, 18
District Twelve: Miner Vix, 12 and Leah Amber Baird, 17
The Games:
When the tributes rose into this years arena, they were obviously confused, as this was not the Amphitheatre of last year's Games. The Arena of the Second Annual Hunger Games became a staple of Arenas of Hunger Games, being used often as a baseline, with just a few changes. The Arena was a massive forest, filled with redwood trees, stretching up into the sky. Some of the trees were narrow enough for any skilled climber to climb, while others where big enough that it would take three or four tributes holding hands to link all the way around it. Another thing that was new this year was the Cornucopia, sitting in the middle of the ring of pedestals, which was in the biggest clearing in the centre of the forest. The tributes looked this way and that, trying to find any supplies, when the gong sounder. All twenty-four Tributes ran into the Bloodbath, which was coined this year by the Victor in an interview the next year.
Several tributes sprinted forwards towards the weapons in the Cornucopia. Angelina was the first to arrive at the weapon supply, but had to spend a minute or two finding her weapon of choice. This allowed Meadows to pick up a sickle, and she lunged at the boy from Seven, who was trying to kill Angelina. Meadows stabbed the sword directly through Connors chest, and out his front.
24th: Connor Williams, District Seven male, killed by Meadows Crimmond, Bloodbath
Cassandra held her sword in her hand and brought it down towards Orchard. The boy managed to dodge the first blow, and punched Cassandra in the stomach. Cassandra doubled up, allowing Orchard to pick up a knife. As Orchard went to stab Cassandra, she suddenly stood up and impaled the Eleven boy.
23rd: Orchard Kimmert, District Eleven male, killed by Cassandra Batofel, Bloodbath
Angelina had finally found some throwing knives. She turned and hurled one towards the boy from Six. After the blade sunk into his side, Angelina was struck in the head by a rock thrown by the girl from Six. Angelina spun around, and threw a knife at her as well, hitting her. She then turned back to the boy from Six and finished him off.
22nd: Rover Pesmiani, District Six male, killed by Angelina Moonbeam, Bloodbath
Anchor curled his finger around a spear, and ran out of the Cornucopia, looking for his first victim. He saw a weak girl, having a panic attack near her pedestal, shocked at the blood that was on the ground and the three dead bodies. He charged forward and speared her.
21st: Lilah Ditter, District Eight female, killed by Anchor Fisher, Bloodbath
Leviticus held his katana in his hand as when he spotted the pair from Twelve run into the Cornucopia and hide in separate crates. He grinned, and quietly followed them. After he was in the Cornucopia, he opened the first crate, and found the boy quivering in fear. Leviticus slashed his katana across the boys chest and watched him slowly bleed out.
20th: Miner Vix, District Twelve male, killed by Leviticus Bramitol, Bloodbath
The girl from Six had crawled towards a first-aid kit, hoping to use it to save herself. However, before she could grab it, Angelina threw another knife at her, impaling her neck. Sophia gurgled on her own blood as Angelina stalked towards her and slit her throat.
19th: Sophia Pesmiani, District Six mal, killed by Angelina Moonbeam, Bloodbath
Cassandras' observant eyes spotted the Three boy trying to sneak past her, holding a backpack. Cassadra was on her like a hound, a ripped her sword directly through the boy. He fell to the ground, and Cassandra pillaged him of his backpack.
18th: Wire Judas, District Three male, killed by Cassandra Batofel, Bloodbath
Leviticus ripped the top off the crate that the Twelve girl was hiding in. She screamed in fear and tried to scramble out of the crate, but she didn't have time before Leviticus cut her head clean off with his katana. Repulsed at the ghastly sight, he turned around and ran off to find more prey.
17th: Leah Amber Baird, District Twelve female, killed by Leviticus Bramitol, Bloodbath
Meadows noticed the girl from Four and boy from Ten fighting. She stalked towards them, and ducked behind a crate, waiting to kill the winner of the battle. The boy from Ten eventually got the edge over the young girl, and stabbed his knife into the Four girls head.
16th: Wave Lipus, District Four female, killed by Cutlet Frost, Bloodbath
Meadows leapt from behind the crate, and swung her sickle at Cutlet. He was to shocked and tired from the fight with Wave to do anything other than gasp when Meadows drove her sickle into his stomach, before ripping it out. Meadows quickly stabbed him again in the head to end the pain.
15th: Cutlet Frost, District Ten male, killed by Meadows Crimmond, Bloodbath
Leviticus was chasing the girl from five around the clearing, trying to catch her. She was fast however, and proving hard to catch. Angelina appeared suddenly in front of the girl, and stabbed her in the stomach. Leviticus caught up, and slashed his katana across Swifts' neck.
14th: Swift Argon, District Five female, killed by Angelina Moonbeam and Leviticus Bramitol, Bloodbath
The final two outliers in the clearing were the girls from Seven and Ten. Both were decently strong, and in an unspoken agreement dived towards the five members of the Killer Alliance. Meadows, Anchor and Angelina fought the Seven girl while the pair from Two fought against the Ten girl. As one could imagine, it was hard going two against one, but even worse going three against one. So it was to nobodies surprise that the Seven girl was the first to fall when Angelina slashed out one of her eyes, Meadows gutted her and Anchor finished her off with a thrust of his spear through her head.
13th: Cherry Bateye, District Seven female, killed by Angelina Moonbeam, Meadows Crimmond and Anchor Fisher, Bloodbath
Lamba fell quickly after. The three that had been fighting Cherry helped Leviticus and Cassandra, leading to Lamba being stabbed by Cassadra less than a minute later. The five members of the alliance all stood around, and watched the girl bleed out, screaming all the way.
12th: Lamba Port, District Ten female, killed by Cassandra Batofel, Bloodbath
Eleven cannon shots rang over the arena, signalling the elven lives lost. Originally, the cannon shots would have fired during the Bloodbath, but President Ravinstill had ordered them to be fired at the end, so as not to distract tributes from killing each other. The five 'Careers' as they were being called by the Capitol geared up with weapon, food and water and left the clearing to hunt the other tributes. The arena was a good bit smaller that all future arenas, at only four kilometres across. Anchor had his spear, Cassandra her sword, Leviticus his katana, Meadows her sickle and Angelina had knives, both throwing and normal. They decided to head north, where Meadows said she saw two tributes run.
Those two tributes were Circ from Three and Astroe from Five. Circ had run into the Bloodbath and come away with nothing but a cut on her shoulder from Meadows, that throbbed painfully. She ran away from the clearing, and stopped after about an hour. She lay against a tree, quietly cursing. She pulled of her jacket, balled it up and pressed it against her wound, hoping to stem the blood flow. She took beep breaths and lay her head backwards, closing her eyes, and fell asleep. Astroe from Five had a knife from the Bloodbath and was determined to use it to score a kill. He knew that killing someone would not only increase his chance of getting home, but also increase his popularity. He stalked the forest for two hours, before finding the sleeping Circ. Astroe slowly crept up towards the Three girl, taking extra care not to make any noise. When he got close, he held his breath, before stabbing the knife down in Circ's head. Circ died before she every felt any pain.
11th: Circ Beepa, District Three female, killed by Astroe Silsa, Day 1
The pair from Nine, Achlys Halors and Ziti Pliyer, ran to the east. They were separate at first, but found each other after running for about forty minutes. When they first saw each other, they didn't recognise each other at first, and hid behind separate trees, with Achlys holding a hatchet, and Ziti holding a dagger. Eventually, Ziti looked around her tree, and saw that it was Achlys. She sighed with relief, and called him over. Achlys was similarly relieved that it was Ziti and not another tribute. The pair agreed to an alliance, and set of in search of water. They eventually found a small pond and, using some iodine tablets that Ziti managed to take from the Cornucopia, drank clean water. It was then that Circ's cannon fired, shocking both tributes as they were now in the top ten. The two from Nine then decided to keep moving, before eventually settling down against one of the biggest trees in the forest, and both of them fell asleep before assigning a guard.
Fabulous Montgomery went south from the Cornucopia. He had managed to get a backpack from the Cornucopia, and after alternating between running and walking away for about ninety minutes, he sat down and opened his backpack. Inside he had a length of rope, a canteen of water that was empty and a small packet of dried beef strips. He smiled, as it was a good haul. He zipped his bag back up, and just started wandering around the Arena. While wondering, he spoke of home, particularly to his Girlfriend, Topaz Tanzanite. On his further wonderings, he found the body of Circ, from whom he pillaged her knife. He held the knife in his hand as he walked around the arena, before settling down in a small hole he dug himself.
Dolman Zolsa ran west. He was a good runner from working in the cotton fields of Eight for his entire life. He was able to sprint for over an hour before stopping, after he had decided he was far enough. He kept wondering away from the clearing, before stopping suddenly. He looked in front of him carefully, seeing a weird shiny patch of the air in front of him. He picked up a stick off the ground, and threw it forward. It hit the force field, and shot back towards him. He managed to duck in time, avoiding getting a stick to the face. Dolman smiled, and sat down against a tree near to the force field, hoping to use it if anyone attacked him.
The tributes were awoken by a cannon shot only an hour into Day 2. The Careers had been hunting all evening, and had finally found a tribute. It was Astroe from Five. The five smiled when they spotted him. Angelina hurled a knife at him to wake him up. Astroe woke up, screaming in pain, as the knife impaled his knee. Anchor then jumped forward, and drove his spear into Astroe's stomach, before ripping it out. Finally, Meadows sliced across his chest with her sickle. The poor boy was only a few moments from death, and barley felt it.
10th: Astroe Silsa, District Five male, killed by Angelina Moonbeam, Anchor Fisher and Meadows Crimmond, Day 2
The Careers continued hunting, eventually finding another tribute only half an hour later. This was Dolman. He was a light sleeper, and after Cassandra accidently stepped on a stick, snapping it under her foot, Dolman woke up with a jerk. He turned, and spotted the Careers. He froze in fear, before leaping up and running. The Careers were instantly after him. Angelina and Anchor both used their weapons to try and hit him. Angelina's knife missed, and Anchor's spear bounced off the force field and hit Dolman in the leg. He fell down screaming, and Cassandra and Leviticus leapt forward, slashing their weapons. Leviticus managed to get the final damage on Dolman.
9th: Dolman Zolsa, District Eight male, killed by Anchor Fisher, Cassandra Batofel and Leviticus Bramitol. Day 2
This left the final eight: Fabulous Montgomery and Angelina Moonbeam from District One, Leviticus Bramitol and Cassandra Batofel from District Two, Anchor Fisher from District Four, Achlys Halors and Ziti Pliyer from District Nine and Meadows Crimmond from District Eleven.
After killing Dolman, the Careers decided to take a break, and get some sleep. They settled down back at the Cornucopia, and all slept for a few hours. The three other tributes, Fabulous, Achlys and Ziti all got their own rest after being woken up twice for the two cannons of Astroe and Dolman. All was quiet until around ten O'clock, when the Careers woke up and went back to hunting. Fabulous continued walking around and practicing with his knife while the pair from Nine were sitting down together by a lake, talking about how they could sneak up on the Careers and hopefully kill them all. The audience was excited for this, but unfortunately, the Nines' never got the chance to execute their plan. About an hour after waking up, the Careers found the Nines sitting by the lake. Anchor was the first one to spot them, and told his allies that they were there. Anchor's voice alerted the two tributes, who both jumped up, and started running in opposite directions. Achlys ran left and Ziti ran right.
"Anchor, Meadows, with me after the boy. Leviticus and Cassandra, get the girl!" called Angelina.
Leviticus and Cassandra sprinted after the girl, and chased her through the woods, while Meadows, Anchor and Angelina ran after the boy. The audience were on the edge of their seats as seven of the final eight were involved in this chase. Eventually, Achlys turned a corner, and ran into a deep pond, getting stuck in the mud at the bottom of the water. The three careers grinned when they saw this, and Anchor and Angelina let Meadows go into the water to claim the kill. Meadows moved up to the boy, taking care to step on the solid parts of the ground, and stabbed the Five boy in the back, her sickle protruding from his chest. The boys fell down, and two cannons rang out. Meadows turned sharply around, and saw the body of Anchor on the floor, with Angelina cleaning off her knife, having stabbed him in the neck. This was the first ever betrayal in the history of the Hunger Games, and shocked the Capitol crowd in Victory Square.
8th: Achlys Halors, District Nine male, killed by Meadows Crimmond, Day 2
7th: Anchor Fisher, District Four male, killed by Angelina Moonbeam, Day 2
Meadows ran towards Angelina, swinging her sickle at her neck. Angelina moved at the last second, causing Meadows to only cut off a little bit of her hair. Angelina moved back a little, onto more solid ground, and Meadows advanced. The Eleven girl carried on making hard and powerful strikes, pushing Angelina further and further back through the forest. It looked as if Meadows was going to win, but Angelina was being crafty. She was letting Meadows tire herself out, and lull her into a false sense of security. After ten minutes, Meadows was starting to pant, and this was where Angelina sprang forward, starting to lay on her own fast and powerful attacks, that confused and disorientated Meadows. Angelina kept on striking Meadows, eventually hitting her in the wrist that was holding the sickle. This caused Meadows to drop her sickle, and Angelina then stabbed Meadows in the forehead, before stalking off to find her next victim.
6th: Meadows Crimmond, District Eleven female, killed by Angelina Moonbeam, Day 2
Meanwhile, Leviticus and Cassandra had been running after Ziti. The girl was fast and had high stamina, letting her run and run. As the three were running, they heard all three cannons. The sound of the cannons caused Leviticus to move faster, catching up to Ziti and jumping on her back, pinning her down to the ground. Cassandra caught up, and pulled Leviticus off the girl.
"What are you doing?" asked Leviticus.
"Let's have fun with her," remarked Cassadra, moving forward, and swinging her sword towards Ziti's feet. Ziti jumped back, and collided with a tree. Cassadra smiled and walked towards her, before driving her sword into Ziti's arm, pinning her to the tree. Cassadra then ripped her sword out, before stabbing her foot. Ziti was screaming her head off, as Cassadra then sliced down her left arm and repeating it with the right. Leviticus was staring at Cassandra looking slightly worried. Leviticus then moved towards Ziti, and stabbed her in the neck. The poor girl was almost thankful for him ending the pain.
5th: Ziti Pliyer, District Nine female, killed by Cassandra Batofel and Leviticus Bramitol, Day 2
"What the hell was that for?" snarled Cassandra, turning towards Leviticus.
"I don't want to alert anyone else. We are in the top four. Angelina is almost certainly still alive, then who knows who else?" replied Leviticus. "If we let her scream, she would be heard, and we could be killed."
"Fine. Let's move. I want to find these other two tributes. I can't wait to kill them," said Cassandra, excitedly.
After Cassandra moved onwards, Leviticus looked at her back, obviously a little disturbed. He then moved forward, and caught up with her. The two tributes walked through the forest, and looked around for any of the two remaining tributes. Fabulous had been hiding in the small hole in the ground that he had dug on the first evening. Hearing four cannons in a row disturbed him slightly, and he was curled up, holding his knife and looking around wildly for any tributes. Angelina was moving through the arena, quickly and quietly, looking for the pair from Two specifically. After two hours of hunting, she finally found them, and slipped behind a nearby tree. Angelina stalked the pair for over an hour, before she attacked. She appeared from behind a tree to the left of the two tributes, and grunted as she threw a knife with all her strength. Cassandra turned, and managed to duck in time to avoid being hit by the knife, but Leviticus did not move in time. The knife hit him in the shoulder, and he swore loudly. Angelina turned, and started running, with Cassandra running right after her. The two girls ran between the trees for twenty minutes, before Angelina grabbed a branch, and snapped it off the tree it was connected to. She then darted round a tree when she was out of sight of Cassandra and waited.
As Cassandra was about to run past the tree Angelina was hiding behind, the One girl swung the branch out from behind the tree, and into Cassandra's face. The branch connected hard, breaking Cassandra's nose, knocking out several of her teeth and knocking her unconscious. Angelina smirked, before crouching down and slitting Cassandra's throat.
4th: Cassadra Batofel, District Two female, killed by Angelina Moonbeam, Day 2
The Gamemakers had their final three, and decided to push the tributes towards the Cornucopia. They did this by lighting the edge of the Arena on fire, and letting it spread inwards. Fabulous, Angelina and Leviticus all dropped everything apart from their weapons, and ran at full speed away from the fire. The first to arrive at the Cornucopia was Angelina, who quickly grabbed two extra knives, and jumped on top of the Cornucopia, waiting for the other two tributes. Fabulous burst through the tree line, and ran at full speed towards the horn. Angelina spotted him, and hurled a knife directly at his head. It collided with him, and the boy collapsed to the ground.
3rd: Fabulous Montgomery, District One male, killed by Angelina Moonbeam, Day 2
The final battle of the Second Hunger Games was between Angelina Moonbeam of District One, and Leviticus Bramitol of District Two. These were the two most beloved tributes this year. Angelina was the first ever volunteer, and had got six kills so far, four of them in the past two hours. She was cherished by her District and would be sure to make a great Victor. Leviticus meanwhile was a proud and loyal District Two warrior, boasting five kills in total, one less than Angelina. However, his was loved for his grit and determination, having been hurt many times, and continuing to get up and carry on fighting. Time would tell who would win.
Leviticus had run into the clearing, and got on top of the horn while Angelina had been distracted killing her District partner. Leviticus had his katana, while Angelina had two knives. Leviticus made the first move, swinging his katana at Angelina, but she ducked, letting the blade glide over her head. She used this moment to lunge forwards, and stabbed Leviticus in the same shoulder as she did earlier. She then ripped the knife out of his shoulder, and rammed it into his other shoulder, before finishing him off with a stab to the heart.
2nd: Leviticus Bramitol, District Two male, killed by Angelina Moonbeam, Day 2
The cannon faded away, followed by the trumpets signalling Angelina's victory.
"Ladies and Gentlemen, may I present the Victor of the Second Annual Hunger Games, Angelina Moonbeam of District One," shouted Carolina Portwee.
Angelina whooped, and threw her hands in the air, celebrating her victory.
Angelina Moonbeam, District One female, Victor of the Second Annual Hunger Games, Day 2.
Aftermath:
Angelina was well liked by the Capitol. She was strong, kind and loyal, and set a great example of what a Victor should be. She caused a the Noble families of District One to band together, and set up a training school for their children, and request Angelina teach the tributes, which she agreed to. The Moonbeam family became rich, and acted as the twelfth noble family, to replace the Silk family who's last members died in the First games. For their differences, Angelina and Illinois got along very well.
Angelina's Victory Tour went OK, with District Six and District Two both giving her the cold shoulder for killing both tributes from each District. Districts Four and Eleven were similarly cold due to the deaths of Anchor and Meadows respectively.
Angelina would live to the age of seventy-six, dying from breast cancer around the time of the Sixtieth Annual Hunger Games. She would mentor many tributes, and in her life, saw the total number of District One Victors rise to eight, including herself. She would not marry, but would adopt one son.
