Once again, there are major spoilers from the jump. I'm making this as a bit of a test run. Doing this might be a project too ambitious for me, not that it has stopped me on other equally insane fic premises.

So obviously I saw some certain scenes with a certain God of Thunder, and felt really kind of heartbroken about it. Which I guess it says so much about the writing that I really felt so much sympathy, despite how much he was built up as someone with a hair trigger temper and a serious drinking problem.

This is normal speech.

BOLD AND CAPS are meant to represent Giant speak.

Two combatants still alive had just finished a hectic bout, as the chaos and destruction of war raged around Asgard. The victor had his knife in the other's hand.

'Damn it. Sif, Thrud, I'm sorry. I couldn't protect you, I'm only Thor Odinson, a destroyer.' He expected death, but it did not come.

"What the Fuck are you waiting for?" The voice was ragged and in disbelief. This was Kratos, the Ghost of Sparta, the man who slew his own family by a trick of the Gods from Vinland. The man who killed his brothers Heimdall and Baldur, and killed his sons Magni, and Mo-? [1]

'No, I killed Modi.' Thor could never believe otherwise.

"Your Daughter." The beaten god only grew angrier. "My son calls her friend?"

"If you try to hurt her-" He was too winded to finish the sentence. He didn't flinch as surprisingly enough this foreign god of war pulled his knife from his hand

"I would not."

Thor tried to get up, but he didn't understand it. Why spare him?

"Don't you know what I've done!" He was a destroyer, a killer of his own kind, even his mother no matter how much Tyr told him otherwise.

"Yes!" The warrior soon called that seemingly familiar ax towards him. "But, What will you do now?"

'Why is he saying this? Who is he, Tyr? Does he really believe I can change?' "We don't change." Mjolnir sensed his desire to fight, to defend his home and family, and came back to his hand "We are Destroyers."

"No more. No more." Kratos had put his ax behind his back. "For the sake of our children, we must be better."

'He is right. I did it once before, I stopped drinking once. Yes, I fucked that up, but I can change. I will not kill him.'

Moments passed as a flock of ravens appeared. "Why isn't he dead? Are you talking?" Thor both dreaded and relished this moment, his father would not have any more control over him. Who told you to do that? You don't talk? You don't think. I think. You kill. It's a simple fucking concept!

"Sif was right about you" 'So was Tyr, and Hymir. You never did care about us' "I just didn't wanna see it."

"What is this? Are you broken? I am your father, take the hammer and kill who I tell you to kill!"

Thor looked back at the Ashen God and Loki who was by his side. The man and his son believed he was more than a weapon.

"No." A look of silent fury crossed his father's face. It was one he was familiar with, even when he was young

His father pulled out Grungir his spear. Was his father going to kill him? Before anything could happen the ground began to shake. The giant snake was engaged in battle with this unstoppable giant. Perhaps it was good he let them fight.

Thor barely had time to react, as the snake was slammed toward them. Thor felt Mojnir was away from his side.

Thor felt scales next to him. Was he near the snake?

"I didn't want to do this!"

It was his father. He had Mjolnir in his hands ready to attack. Father always was strong, even if not as much in his youth.

"Is that what you said, when you killed Tyr?" Odin glared at him, with the same hatred he had for him, after the death of his mother. Maybe Odin did kill his brother, even if he didn't know.

Odin held Mjolnir and with a rage he had not seen since when he and his father were young, he charged forth with the hammer and tried to hit him.

Thor dodged his father's strike by barely jumping on top of the snake. But as soon as the snake was hit something strange happened. Thor and the serpent were in some strange void, but just as soon as he had entered Thor found himself somewhere else.

It looked like Midgard, but it wasn't covered in snow. This place was different, or at least it felt different, come to think of so did he, he thought his wound was healing. 'If Fimbulwinter didn't happen does that mean?'

A loud roar rang out.

"THOR!" The voice was deep guttural and in the giant tongue. Turning around Thor saw the snake, but it looked different it seemed 'older' and its face had green plant life that seemed almost like a beard. It glared at Thor before a look of surprise crossed its face. 'Why do you look like that? Something feels wrong about this?' [2]

"RAGNAROK HAPPENED, WE WERE THERE." Thor took a moment to catch his breath, but even he couldn't believe what he was about to say. "THE ALL-FATHER TRIED TO KILL ME."

"I TOLD YOU ALL THOSE YEARS AGO NOT TO TRUST HIM." Thor only knew of one person, but this couldn't be them, could it?

"HYMIR?" [2]

"YES. YOU WON'T HAVE THE CHANCE TO REPEAT THAT, I WILL HAVE MY VENGENCE FOR THE GIANTS AND TYR!"

"HYMIR, LISTEN TO ME!"

Hymir lunged forward refusing to listen and struck its teeth larger than a small house, but Thor jumped out of the way and began moving around the wildwoods.

'I lost Mjolnir, maybe it is in Asgard. I can't fight Hymir like this.' Thor's thoughts turned toward the forest he was running through. 'Fimblewinter hasn't happened yet, Baldur's still alive. Maybe Magni and Modi are too. I can hurt myself thinking about this later.'

Using its immense size, Hymir lunged once more, but Thor jumped up in the air, as soon as the Hymir struck close to the ground. The serpentine giant roared. "THOR, THIS ISN'T OVER!"

Thor flew from the air and landed close to what seemed to be a chasm, he recalled seeing it when he and his father went to see Kratos. Apparently, Baldur made this in his fight against The Ghost of Sparta.

"Okay. I've traveled back in time somehow. But if I change the past, won't I change the future? Does it mean the past won't exist, or was it the future I came from?" The thunder god shook his head. "Maybe Father was right about thinking, at least for this. Any future where I kill my son, and let my brothers die isn't worth living in. Even if I have to oppose my father."

'What am I going to tell Sif, but this was before we gave up drinking, after.' Thor tried to brush off the thoughts of the days after his sons and brother's deaths. It was why he took up drinking to go forget. He couldn't go back to it, even now.

"Whatever I'm planning I need help." Thor looked to the sky in realization towards the highest peak in Midgard. "Mimir."

So this is it. I'm not really sure about the nuts and bolts of this story, but I envision it as not intersecting too much with Kratos and Atreus journey just yet. Whatever changes I do make I really don't want to cheat them of their growth.

[1] Vinland, which means wine land. This is what I'm using as the Norse term for Greece.

[2] Hymir was a giant who along with Tyr who was his stepson and Thor went to go get a magical cauldron to brew ale in, only for Jormungandr to attack the boat. Here I'm making Hymir the soul Atreus put into the snake. He's still the stepson of Tyr, with his wife Hróðr being Tyr's birth mother.
