In the beginning of Remnant there was nothing. Not a single flicker of a light in the darkness that stretched across the cosmos. Time had no concept during that period and it was impossible to tell when the first flame came about. The flame of life that signaled the dawn of two powerful beings.

The Gods of Remnant.

They were brothers, but they were polar opposites of one another. One was of light, illuminating the skies in a glorious flame and the life that basked in it. The other was of darkness, snuffing out whatever his brother produced in a sea of shadows and death. Yet, neither one wanted to destroy one another, but to simply be the dominant being. Their feud lasted for countless years.

Before they created humanity, they created monsters. Powerful beings so wild and strong that they felt proud of their first unified creations, only for their pride to quickly fade. They things they created were too wild, violently slaughtering whatever they could find and eating it to gain more power.

The creatures could adapt to any situation, rapidly evolving to fit their environment with each generation. They were out of control and the Gods quickly realized that they had created their first failed experiment. With each one they killed, the next generation grew stronger but so did the Gods.

They grew to understand how the Monsters behaved and knew they reproduced rapidly. As much as it pained them to destroy their first creations, it was needed in order for the world to remain balanced. The centuries passed and brothers' power only grew, until they had reached the highest form of godhood.

So with one sweep of divine power, they killed their first creations and mourned deeply. Despite the risk they posed, they wished they had done something different when it came to them. Such powerful and intelligent beings but they were too dangerous to keep alive. This caused the two gods to go their separate ways for a few centuries to mourn in their own ways.

Eventually, they went back to their brotherly feud, but with less hostility and spirit. It fell into a demented rhythm of creating and destroying life, all to preserve the balance. As time passed, their wisdom grew but the pain of destroying the first creations did as well. There were times when they considered creating them again, but knew better to try and do such a thing.

After feuding for a few more centuries, they decided to once again try to create another species. One that wasn't wild and powerful as the Monsters. It took some time, but they created a species that were far less powerful but were more civilized.

It was the birth of humanity.

The humans were frail beings, but were so much smarter and although the Gods felt pride in their combined creations, it wasn't the same. Humans proved that they could just be as savage as the Monsters at times, often aligning with one of the Gods for more power to slaughter their enemies. They were also clever, but more often than not they used that to stab one another in the back.

However, the Gods saw them grow old and wither away as the years passed and were content for a while. Humanity created such extravagant sights that impressed them and they saw a race that could achieve great things.

Time seemed to slip by and humanity had started to divide from one another. They built their own kingdoms and had their own languages but with division came conflicting ideals. Some still saw other places ripe for plundering while others wanted to unite everyone. They stopped worshipping the gods but only came to them for power and it bothered the two.

Using their gifts of magic to kill one another wasn't why they bestowed the power upon them. The Monsters never had such gifts since they were gifted with their own, but humanity was different was what the two brother gods kept telling themselves. So they continued to aid humanity but less as the years went on. The people weren't appreciating how good they had it but the Gods weren't willing to interfere.

Neither one were pleased with the countless wars that had caused the world to become stagnant. The kings, who started out noble, had started to exploit their own people and kill them for their sick desires. The warriors who fought for survival went to war with one another over land that was plentiful enough for everyone. Even the lowest class of man found some way to stab the other in the back for a chance at a better life.

What had happened to the creations they had such high hopes for?

All their efforts started to bite them in the rear when that one person came. A single woman carrying the staff of her lover came to the God of light and begged him to bring back her love. Although he pitied her, he had no choice but to deny her in order to maintain the balance of life and death.

Unable to accept his choice, she traveled the lands to see the God of Darkness and managed to convince him to bring back the love of her life. She thanked the god but her moment with the man was cut short when the God of Light arrived and killed the man again, scolding both his brother and the woman for upsetting the balance.

They should have known repeatedly bringing the man back to life and killing him again numerous times would bring about disastrous results. Neither one paid any attention to the woman as they repeatedly killed her lover, all because they weren't willing to come to a common ground. Each death she witness caused her mind to break, until they realized the futility of it all.

As punishment for her actions, the God of Light cursed her for immortality before eventually casting her from his domain. Little did he know that she would use her rage to unite the people of the world against the Gods.

Neither of the brothers could understand why the people had turned against them, they were confused until they saw her. They saw that wretched woman standing awfully proud of herself for deceiving everyone.

Their souls ached as they watched all the humans conjure up what feeble amount of magic they could and cast it towards the Gods. It pained them, especially the God of Darkness, when the magic was collected and held in a ball of purple in his hand. With a single squeeze a wave of devastating magical power swept across the land, destroying all of humanity it could reach.

The pain of losing another one of their combined creations caused them great sorrow. It was too much for the two to handle and they expressed their disappointment towards Salem when she came back to life. Neither one could look her in the eye as they quickly left Remnant, shattering its moon and taking whatever gifts they held with them.

Neither one heard her curses or her cries and they certainly didn't know that deep within a single cave, a lone slab of stone lied still. On it was a large egg covered in stone spikes covering it for protection. It would pulse every so often and inside an infant creature could be seen curled inside.

The years went by and after ten years, the egg started to crack. Bits and pieces of the protective stone covering broke off and fell to the ground. The egg started to vibrate a bit and more violently as the seconds went by. After a few minutes, it exploded and covered the cave in a glowing, sticky, pink fluid. The substance slid down the walls viscously and a hoarse shriek was heard.

It landed on all fours and labored breathing was heard. Two large hands scrapped the bottom of the cave and six different eyes constantly looked around. A single large eye in the center glared ahead. The breathing steadied and a low rumble from the creature's stomach made it growl lowly.

The flesh on its body was still soft and it looked around before all six of its eyes turned on the egg. A hungry maw went to work consuming the material from it previous housing. It provided a good source of nutrients as it cleaned up, using the barbed tongue to lap up the fluid off the wall as well.

It wasn't necessarily the best tasting thing but the beast didn't care. This little bit was enough to stave off the hunger a bit, but more was needed. More food was needed for it to grow so the only thing it could do was leave the cave.

At first, moving around was a little odd after being in the egg for so long, but the drive to have something in its stomach pushed it forward. Its movement but wobbly, but driven and the cave was nearly pitch black. However, the creature could see perfectly fine, the only sense of illumination came from its eyes.

There was the faint sound of voices ahead and it perked up, letting the scents of everything come to it before it set its sights forward. A couple of people were seen, but the creature didn't care about the noises coming from their mouths, all it did was continue forward. The closer it got, the more driven it was to consume the unfortunate victims.

Loud slamming on the rock below was heard and the group stopped talking then turned to the dark cave. The slamming got louder and louder and they looked at one another before grabbing their swords. They brandished them and aimed them forward at the pitch black entrance.

Silence was only thing that basked the area when the slamming stopped and whatever it was halted its approach. Tension filled the area and the rattling of the group's weapons were louder than normal. A deep primal fear seemed to rear its head out and the alarms in their heads.

The first one to step forward proved to be his final mistake. As soon as his foot barely nudged where the light didn't blanket the cave, a large hand shot out and wrapped around his torso. He screamed as he was lifted up and the group fell on their rears as a colossal beast emerged.

It was a quadrupedal, lumbering forward on two short hind legs and two comparatively huge front legs. The two large front legs were club-like and were used to grab and bludgeon its prey to death. Its eyes glowed monstrously while it stared at the man in its grasp. Unlike Grimm, its skin was pink due it just hatching, but the group didn't know that.

They were too petrified to move as they watched the creature open its mouth, revealing a maw full of razor sharp teeth and saliva dribbled down its chin, splattering onto the dirt below. The man screamed and tried to pry himself free but had his upper torso placed inside its mouth.

He gave one last scream before suddenly falling silent when he was bitten in half. Blood flew through the air and his lower torso was dropped, spilling his internal organs over the ground. The rest shakily looked up before seeing the creature reveal its full size. It was larger than a boulder and it stood up on its hind legs, pounding its chest while snarling before slamming its fists into the ground.

A deafening roar was heard from it and the rest took their chances to try and run. It gave chase and barreled through anything that stood in its way. While its movement was wobbly, it was slowly gaining on them by the seconds.

The second victim was grabbed and was bitten into three separate pieces, screaming on the way in. It resumed its chase and quickly caught the third one, slamming its fist into his back and crushing him with tremendous force. Blood splattered across the trees and ground before the body was left for later.

The last person stumbled and fell onto the dirt, flipping onto his back and crawling backwards. He couldn't do anything as the gargantuan beast advanced upon him, raising his sword and slashing at it. His arm was crushed and he barely had time to scream before a large hand gripped him and raised him in the air. He felt the air leave his lungs as he was repeatedly slammed into the ground.

Bones snapped violently and he could feel the blood rushing through his body. Everything went black when he was thrown into a tree violently, causing him to splatter against it, painting the area red.

It panted slightly and consumed whatever flesh it could before returning to the other body, peeling it off the ground and eating it shortly after. Blood dribbled down its chin as it held the half eaten body in its hand and looked back when it heard more voices.

After quickly swallowing the lower half of the body, it lumbered towards the group to continue to feed.

Five bodies were dragged towards the cave and tossed into a pile with several others. The beast went to work filling its stomach with the corpses, sloppily eating each one loudly. A dozen or more swords were seen scattered around the cave floor, all caked in blood.

Minutes went by and the sound of bones snapping and flesh tearing was still heard, echoing across the air and bouncing off the walls. Eventually it stopped altogether and the Monster tucked itself into a little ball, slumbering after gorging itself.

The sickening scent of blood was thick in the air, threatening to clog anyone's lungs with the pungent odor. It filled the cave in a blanket of death and despair, causing anyone who dared wander close to flee.

Over the course of a few weeks, hardened armor started to grow over the soft flesh while it slept. Deep rumbles were heard from within the cave and the noise bounced off the stone walls. The slumbering behemoth of a creature barely moved from its spot and just continued to sleep.

Moisture dripped from the ceiling and onto the creature, making it stir and slowly open its eyes. Each one slowly opened and illuminated a small area of the cave. An audible, low rumble echoed across the cave as it yawned and licked its sharp teeth. A loud gurgle was heard from its stomach and it started to shuffle out of the cave uncomfortably. It had grown a bit and its current home was a tad bit tight.

As it got closer and closer towards the entrance of the cave, its eyes started to adjust. Once it was free, it immediately sucked in fresh air, letting multiple scents flood its nostrils. A loud noise came from its throat as it let out a call. It was a mixture of a roar followed by a series of clicks shortly after. Nothing was heard in return so it tried again to see if anything responded back.

Once again, nothing was heard and it continued to call for the next several minutes. After unsuccessfully trying to gain a response, it gave up and started to lumber off in some random direction. The heavy slamming of its front legs made the ground shake and trees were easily pushed to the side if they stood in the way.

There wasn't a direction in particular, but the sound of rushing water grabbed the beast's attention. It turned to the North and started to lumber towards the sound of the water. Multiple small critters quickly rushed away from the gargantuan being and it barely gave chase before spotting the large river.

It stretched for miles and a large waterfall was right in front of it, allowing copious amounts of water to plummet and splash against the bottom. It turned its head straight and spotted a large valley. Mountains could be seen further down the river and snow covered the highest point of rocky surfaces. Green grass and other flora covered a majority of the valley and a village could be seen on the right side of the river.

A loud huff was heard from the beast as it stared at the village. It clutched its stomach when the hunger pain flooded that area of its body. Its eyes looked ahead and saw the people moving around the village, making it lick its teeth.

Without any concern for its wellbeing, it hauled itself over the edge of the waterfall and towards the ground. It fell faster and faster until it slammed against the ground, causing a cloud of dirt, pebbles, and leaves to cloud the area. The cloud cleared after a few seconds and it wasted no time towards the village, the anticipation of finally filling its stomach driving it forward.

The sound of trees snapping was loud and they could be seen falling towards the ground as it continued forward. It broke the tree line and spotted the village ahead, seeing the mass of people fall onto their rears in shock and terror at the sight of it. Standing up on its hind legs, it pounded its chest and roared loudly, causing them to cover their ears.

Just before it could charge towards them, it spotted something in the distance across the river. A large Grimm with two large front legs and smaller hind legs with horns that were spread apart. It pounded its chest at the Monster while the Monster did the same. Both creatures ignored the townspeople in favor of trying to intimidate one another.

The Grimm charged the Monster, while the later did the same. Both met in the middle of the river and slammed their fists into one another, throwing thunderous blows at one another. The Grimm clamped its colossal canines into the Monster's arm, causing it to bellow out in pain and anger. It gripped the Grimm tightly and spun around, slamming it into the ground before spinning it away and throwing it across the river.

It quickly followed where the Grimm landed, splashing copious amounts of water as it rushed towards it, creating large divots in the ground. They both collided and rolled around, slamming their clawed fists onto one another and slashing at each other's bodies, causing deep lacerations and other horrid wounds. The townspeople watched from behind the buildings or from their windows as the two colossal creatures wildly fought one another.

Their attacks were erratic, no form of technique, it was just two wild creatures fighting to the death. They weren't rooting for either of them and could only try to figure out a way to escape.

The Monster gripped the Grimm's jaws and started to pry them apart. It tried to snap its jaws shut but the Monster violently smashed its head against the ground several times before grabbing the upper and lower jaw again, prying them apart. The Grimm let out a loud shriek and its tongue wiggled around erratically before the Monster clamped its jaws around it, pulling on the muscle viciously before ripping it out with a quick jerk of its head.

It flew through the air and slammed against one of the buildings, shaking the occupants inside and causing them to fall over.

A horrid mixture of a bellow and shriek of agony came from the Grimm as red ichor sprayed through the air. The Monster continued to pry its jaws apart until the sound of bone snapping and flesh tearing reverberated throughout the area. It pushed its body weight onto the Grimm and caused it to fall down before sinking its jaws into the muscular shoulder of the creature of darkness.

It proceeded to eat the Grimm alive, starting from the middle of its back before working its way up, greedily gulping bits of flesh and letting it fill its stomach. The Monster snarled in anger when the Grimm finally died and disappeared before it could finish it completely. Although it disappeared prematurely, it was enough to satiate the hunger that the Monster felt.

Silence filled the area as the Monster breathed harshly and a low rumble reverberated throughout the air. It looked around before slowly heading towards the river and dunking its mouth beneath the water's surface.

Cool water was gulped up in large amounts with a loud noise for the next few minutes. After having its fill, it glanced at the village one last time before leaving. Next time it came here, it would feast on the occupants with no interruptions. Now it needed to heal from its battle and the best way to do that was sleep after eating.

Large tracks were left in the ground as it lumbered back towards the cave, feeling the sting of the lacerations in the unarmored parts of its body. Trees were easily pushed out of the way as it headed back to its home, not noticing the townspeople looking at the direction it went.

When the Monster woke up a few days later, it noticed a large amount of animal carcasses in front of its cave. It looked around carefully before bending down and sniffing it, nudging a bit of the pile with its tusks before slowly opening its mouth. Saliva dribbled off its teeth and it greedily ate the first corpse.

It went to the next one, a large elk corpse and sniffed it carefully before eating it as well. The stench of the carcasses was heavy in the air as it chewed the head of the elk, the sound of bones crunching was heard loudly and blood dribbled off its chin. It took a few minutes to finish eating that one, but it continued to enjoy the free meal. It stopped when it got to the last one and smelled something that made it recoil.

The smell was putrid and it made the Monster heave a bit before throwing up a bloody chunk of regurgitated flesh and splintered bones. It picked the deer corpse up before flicking it away from it easily, faintly hearing its body violently crumble to the ground. It rubbed its face in the ground and dirt was easily pushed in several directions. This went on for several minutes until the putrid scent of whatever was in the last corpse finally disappeared.

A sweet scent caught its attention and it sniffed the air carefully before spotting another corpse nearby. It went up to it and smelled the body of a raccoon before carefully eating it and spotting another one. Going up to that one, it sniffed it then ate that one as well. Another raccoon was spotted and the Monster followed the trail, eating each animal body there was.

Eventually, it came across a small clearing and spotted the last one, going up to it and sniffing it before throwing it to the side when the same putrid scent flooded its nose. A faint noise made it rear its head up and look around before multiple voices were heard, shouting in unison. It looked around to see dozens of people with ropes in their hands, throwing it over the Monster's body.

The ropes tightened suddenly, making it buckle slightly as the townspeople tried to force it to the ground. It snarled loudly before bellowing and gripping several ropes in one hand, yanking them over its body and swinging them downwards. The group slammed into the ground and lied in agony before the other group were swung in a circle and tossed into another group of people.

Everyone wheezed in pain and couldn't move as the Monster roared and slammed its fists into the ground, causing a large, glowing fissure to appear in the ground. The attack caused the group to fly in the air and the Monster swiped its claws horizontally, mutilating several of them in the process.

Blood splattered across the area and against some of the others, causing them to scramble backwards. The ones that managed to push through their pain were able to get to their feet and flee into the brush while the others couldn't do anything but fall victim to the beast's colossal fists.

It didn't even attempt to listen to the pleas of them, because it didn't care and it couldn't understand them. The last man raised his hand in desperation before instantly falling silent when the large, armored claw impaled him.

His limp body was raised up and observed before being tossed in the mouth of the Monster. Wet tearing of flesh and the snapping of bone were the only sounds that were heard in the afternoon day. Bodies were haphazardly tossed down the Monster's gullet as it gorged itself on them. As much as it would love to chase after the others, it was too full to follow them.

The location of the village was already known and it would simply just go there when the time came. Their feeble attempts at trying to capture or kill it meant they were a threat and the Monster wasn't willing to let that go anytime soon. However, instead of waiting until it was daytime, it would simply strike in the middle of the night. Most animals were asleep by then, so that probably meant the townspeople would be as well.

A noise made it look to its right and see a large Grimm approach, the spikes on its back were sharp and it circled the Monster. Both creatures circled one another for several seconds before roaring at one another, trying to intimidate the other. When it was clear the the Grimm wouldn't back down, the Monster charged and both rolled over one another.

The Grimm climbed on the Monster's back and bit its shoulder, mainly the fleshy part, causing it to snarl in agony. The Monster gripped its neck and slammed it onto the ground, raising its fists and slamming them on the Grimm repeatedly. With each thunderous blow, the white bone armor began to crack.

Howls and shrieks echoed across the air as the two wild creatures fought to the death. The Monster rushed up to the Grimm and picked it up, slamming it on the ground before dragging it several feet. It spun around and threw the Grimm into a large rock, pouncing on it and dug its claws into its stomach. The disgusting squelching sound was drowned out by an agonized howl.

The Monster clamped its jaws around the Grimm's throat and shook violently, slamming it repeatedly before pinning it down until it died. It was taking longer than expected and whenever the Grimm moved an inch, the Monster would shake even more until it went forever still. The body slowly started to disappear and saliva coated the Monster's teeth, dribbling onto the dirt and clumping together.

It breathed harshly and slowly started to lumber back towards its cave, squeezing inside and shuffling towards the place of its birth. Its home started to get more cramped as it grew larger so it's been scraping away at the walls to make more space.

Once it got to the back, it tucked its body together and closed its eyes, slowly drifting off into slumber. The more Grimm it consumed, the bigger it started to grow and its tougher its body became.

A thick, black sludge coated its wounds and hardened. Steam rose into the air from the black crystals on its body as it healed and the rumbling snores of it bounced off the cave walls. It was silent with the exception of that and for once, the Monster felt that it could relax a bit.

Due to the actions of both its display of power by killing multiple townspeople and Grimm, it had earned both the ire and fear from the former. They hated the beast with all their hearts but were too fearful of it to try and kill it again. It wasn't a Grimm and they had quickly discovered that; it was something else entirely and it allowed a more primal fear to surface.

They were conflicted on staying, but didn't want to die in the process. Leaving wasn't necessarily a suitable option either since outside the valley held unknown dangers. In short, they were stuck between a sea of Grimm that constantly plagued the lands beyond, and a man-eating monster that constantly left its cave every few days to hunt. Fighting it was asking for an early trip to the grave, and they were sure it didn't even understand them.

What were they supposed to do now? Would it be willing to leave them alone if they made offerings to it or simply see them as another food source? These questions were beginning to plague their minds. Some wanted to try and fight it, others wanted to leave, and some even wanted to try and communicate with it to try and coexist with it at a distance.

However, one thing that they all agreed on was that it was an animal, nothing more and nothing less. An animal from some bygone era that they didn't know was the last of its kind.

Another story that's been running through my head for a while. Originally this was going to be a rewrite of my first Evolve x RWBY crossover, but I decided to do something different this time around. I figured out that, that version wasn't going anywhere and this version might not either, but I feel more confident writing this than the scrapped version.

The story won't follow the canon at all and the first few chapters will take place a few thousand years before everything. It's a shoddy start, but I never was good at beginning stories.

Anyways, I hope you at least find some sort enjoyment out of this. See you guys later.

Bye.
