Natasha P.O.V.
When I walked into the Stark Tower after my morning run, the last thing I expected was to find a teenage girl standing in the kitchen.
My first thought was that Tony had spent the night with her. But, those days were over for him, now that he had Pepper.
"Who are you?" Steve blurted out from behind me
She looked confused, " Annabeth Chase. Did Tony not tell you about me?"
I shook my head, "No, why are you here?"
"Uh, my family. They, uh turned to dust." She looked like she was trying not to cry at the mention of them, "Tony is my uncle, or something. And he volunteered to take care of me." At this, she scowled, as if she thought she didn't need someone to take care of her. As if she had been taking care of herself for years and nobody had tried.
"Oh. I'm sorry." I did my best to sound sympathizing, but all I could think about was how odd this whole thing was. Tony, taking care of a teenager? And, the way she carried herself was almost as if she expected a fight to break out at any minute. And, her eyes. They were shattered, scared, broken. How could a teenager have eyes like those?
"What are you names?" She asked, as I was jerked back to the present.
"Natasha. Or, Black-Widow. This is Steve, or Captain America." At the mention of my undercover name, she tensed up. I wonder why.
"Is there a phone I could borrow?" She asked hesitantly. What? She didn't have a phone? What kind of teenager doesn't have a phone?
"You don't have one?" I asked
"If I did, do you seriously think I would be asking for one?"
"You can borrow mine. Gosh we need to go grocery shopping." Steve spoke up, from by the fridge
"Thats on my to-do list." She said as she dialed somebody's number
"Hello, this is Sally." A middle-aged woman from the phone said
"Sally? This is Annabeth."
"Oh, Annabeth, sweetie, I was so worried!" Annabeth left the room, so we couldn't hear her conversation
"What do you think of her?" I whispered over to Steve
"She seems nice."
"Her eyes though, they seemed... shattered. And what teenager from this day, and age doesn't have a phone? Something bad is going to happen."
"Nat, I think we should just rest. So much has happened recently, we deserve a break."
"Yeah, but-" Just then, Tony walked in the room. Half-awake, and grumpy. We let him get his coffee before even attempting a conversation.
"I forgot to mention, but my niece, Annabeth, is staying with us. She should still be asleep. You know how teenagers are." Tony finally spoke
"Actually no, I don't know. But she's already awake. Calling somebody named 'Sally'." I said
"Sally. hey JARVIS, will listen in on Annabeth's phone call?"
"I don't think it wise, but if you wish Mr. Stark."
"Ok, say hi to Estelle and Percy for me. Love you." I could hear Annabeth say
"Love you too. I'll see you later."
Just then, Annabeth walked back into the room, unaware of our eavesdropping, handed the phone back to Steve, and thanked him.
"Morning. Can I go to a friends place?" A friends place? What friend was she saying she loves?
"Why?" Tony asked
"To see her? Why else?"
"I don't know. How late will you be out?" He seemed to actually mull it over
"I'll probably eat dinner there, seeing as we have no food here. And I'm going to go grocery shopping. I'll be back by 10 at the latest." Annabeth said
"Ok. Have fun." Tony said, at last
It was a few minutes after Annabeth left that anybody spoke again.
"Well she seems nice."
