"I'm coming." Sirius pushed himself up from the sofa to further emphasise his point. His knees felt a little wobbly, but that was to be expected when he hadn't moved much for the past several days. "You guys aren't facing those Death Eaters without me."
"Sirius," Remus said in a cautious tone. "You're still injured."
"I'm not." It was at least mostly true. "The potions fixed up all of the cuts. You can't even tell they were there anymore."
Remus sighed. "It's not the cuts I'm worried about. It's the fact that your kneecap was dislocated just three days ago."
"That was three days ago. It's fine now." He wasn't managing to convince his boyfriend. That much was obvious from the look on Remus' face. "Look." He stepped closer, wrapping his arms around Remus' waist and getting him to look at him. "I know you're worried, but I've done everything you asked for the last few days. I'm good as new. Really. And we stand a better chance against those Death Eaters with more people on our side. We both know that nothing is without risk in this war, but I'm no more likely to get hurt this time than I am every other time. I'm not going to let one injury stop me from making a difference."
Remus closed his eyes, nodding along as Sirius spoke. He pulled Sirius close, resting his forehead against his shoulder. Sirius held him tightly. It wasn't like he didn't understand. He worried about Remus just as much every time they had to fight, but if they wanted the war to end, they didn't have a choice. They had to do everything in their power to stop Voldemort and his Death Eaters.
"I'll stay close," Sirius said quietly in Remus' ear. He punctuated the promise with a kiss to Remus' temple. "You won't have to worry about me being out of your sight."
They both knew it was a conditional promise. Sirius would try his best, but there was no guarantee in a battle. They fought so well together that there was a good chance the Death Eaters would purposefully try to separate them. But Sirius would do everything in his power to stay close. He was serious about that.
Remus pulled away with a sigh and nodded. "Okay." He squeezed Sirius around the middle one last time before letting go. "Just don't do anything stupid."
Sirius smirked. "When do I do anything stupid?"
Remus groaned as he turned away, but Sirius managed to catch the slight grin on his lips.
Their safety was no longer guaranteed, but they would make the best of it together.
