Hello friends of the internet!

Here with another chapter before the new year rings in! (I was gonna hold off posting until after the new year, but I figured the first introductions chapter was a short one and you guys needed a little more than that!)

So here's chapter 2! I hope you all will enjoy, and again blessings going into 2024 to everybody!

::Yes mom, I'll grab some on the way home from the library.::

Grace was walking along the sidewalk, dragging her bike along as she had stopped riding to answer the phone.

::I love you too. See you later.::

She then hung up and placed the phone back in her pocket to hop back onto the bike. It only took a few minutes to ride to the library, she loved that it was so close to home.

She parked her bike and strode inside with the book to return in hand.

Grace Witwicky. Just an average 21 year old, trying to find her way in this thing called life. Living in Tranquility, Nevada with her parents and older brother, Sam. He was a pain in her ass but she loved him all the same.

Currently in college, due to go back for her last semester in the beginning of September. Studying music and theater. She dreamed of being a broadway star someday; a big stretch but hey, a girl can have a dream right?

A bit of a loner, Grace didn't have many friends. One or two from college, but she preferred her own company and the company of her books. Was she a nerd? Oh absolutely. Did she care? Not in the slightest. Other people could take their opinions of her and shove them up their ass.

Grace was looking over the newly released books at the front of the library before she found one that caught her interest; a book about a girl meeting an alien and she has to help him save both of their worlds. It was a romance but hey, still sounded interesting nonetheless.

She picked it up and went to sit in a comfy chair in one of the corners, beginning to read the moment she sat down. Typical for her; jump right into it.

'How could I love an alien like you.. you're not from my world.'

'Does that really matter? Love is love no matter what planet you are from.'

She was so into the story she didn't realize several hours had passed until she heard a beep from her cell phone.

She looked outside to see it starting to get dark and she quickly stood up, going to the counter to exchange books and then headed on out of there.

"Of course you'd be at the library reading for hours." She could hear Sam berating her already, but she didn't care. She'd just give him the finger and walk away.

She hopped back onto her bike and started to ride towards the market. She picked up the milk her mother needed, and plus a snack for herself before riding along home.

By the time she got home it was after dark and she walked her bike into the garage before going on inside.

"Mom? I got that milk you needed."

She walked into the kitchen to find no signs of either of her parents or Sam. She placed down the bag from the market and looked around a little suspiciously.

"Why was the house so quiet.."

"Usually mom would be making dinner by now and dad would have football blasting on the TV.."

"Mojo didn't even come to greet me.."

"Mom? Dad?" She called out, checking the living room and then walking to the stairs.

"Sam? Anybody home?"

When she got no response she frowned; well this was weird. She looked outside to see her parents' car still in the driveway, but Sam's new car was gone. Did they all go out for a joyride in the beaten up Camaro?

"Unlikely.."

"So where the hell is everybody?"

Grace looked outside in the backyard and didn't even see signs of Mojo, their little Chihuahua.

"What the fuck?"

After checking upstairs and finding no one, she came back down and walked into the front yard, debating on if she should actually be concerned or not.

Should she ask the neighbors if they've seen anybody?

Maybe she was overreacting.

She sighed and sat down on the porch, pulling out the book she picked up from her purse and debating on continuing to read while she waited for them to pass the time, but her eye caught something in the distance.

The flashing lights of a police car accompanied by sirens.

A Saleen mustang came speeding down the road, engine on full power as it shook the neighborhood with its roar.

Grace just rolled her eyes; one of those cops trying to show off and make a scene.

She did watch the mustang as it drove up right past the driveway; but she narrowed her eyes suspiciously as the moment it did it slowed down.

"What the fuck are you slowing down for?"

The engine revved once as it crept past the house, almost like a cat stalking its prey. Grace only glared at the police car, not saying anything or attempting to upset an officer, but not particularly thrilled about what he was doing.

She did catch a glimpse of what was on the police car however, had to pay attention to things like that.

The number of the car, 643.

It had a weird symbol on the side; one she couldn't make out. And near the back, she had to read the saying twice.

To punish and enslave.

"What the actual fuck?"

"What kind of police officer has that on the back of their car?"

And just like that, the engine of the mustang revved up once again before speeding away into the night.

"Okay now that was just weird.."
