*Long ago, MONSTERS were banished underground by the HUMANS.
*Then one day…
*Monsters gained their freedom…
*Three Months Later…
"Frisk! Wake up!" Asgore's voice shouted. Frisk kept their eyes closed.
"Five more minutes," Frisk complained.
"Frisk, breakfast is ready!" Toriel called from the downstairs kitchen.
Upon hearing that, Frisk jumped up. They like Toriel's cooking better than anyone else's - breakfast often was pancakes with sprinkles in them. Not the healthiest breakfast, but certainly one of the tastiest. Frisk jumped out of bed, quickly changed into a striped shirt and blue shorts, and ran downstairs to the Kitchen/Dining Room.
"Alright, I'm here," Frisk said. "Good morning Mom, good morning Dad,"
"Good morning, my child," Toriel said. "Did you sleep well?"
"If I did, I would've woken up earlier…" Frisk said, serving themself some pancakes with maple syrup. "Looks like you're here, Dad, what's the occasion?"
"I needed to talk to Toriel about some boring paperwork related to her becoming a teacher. They still aren't sure if monsters should be allowed to attend school, let alone teach there."
"Oh my god," Frisk said, groaning. "Still? I thought the mayor said monsters were allowed to live here?"
"We're allowed to be citizens," Asgore said. "But I fear we aren't going to be equal citizens. While the common people have been supportive here in Ebott City, the people in charge seem to be against us.
"That is sadly correct," Toriel said. "There are still many places that refuse to allow monsters access — stores, restaurants, you name it, even here. It really should not be allowed."
"Technically, in the human law books, other species are not a protected class. We're trying to get them to pass an amendment to the Constitution that says…" Asgore kept droning on about the struggles of his political life. Monsters didn't have a kingdom anymore, so he wasn't technically king anymore, but he was still the leader his people could rally behind. Similarly, the Royal Guard was disbanded, but the former royal guard were still monsterkind's defenders since human groups (such as the police and army) didn't have monster's best interests at heart. Frisk still remembered the day they first arrived on the surface – Papyrus ran ahead to the nearest human town, and caused a pretty big scare that luckily didn't end badly. Eventually they managed to negotiate with the people in charge to be allowed to stay in Ebott City – it helped that monsters had a lot of gold that was very valuable to humans and common enough to be used as currency back underground. There were still many issues to fight for, however.
"I just do not understand why it is so hard for humans to accept us," Toriel said.
"It's in our nature," Frisk joked. "This type of unequalness happened before monsters showed up. And well, some monsters are… weird. Like you guys or Undyne or the skele-bros are basically humans. But then you have monsters like Pyrope or Froggit or… Tsunderplane, and they're just so different from what humans are used to and… I don't know. I'm not saying it's OK."
"I understand what you are saying," Toriel said. "And things have been mostly going well for us; there is just still a lot left to go. It is all uphill from here. Anyway-" Suddenly, the doorbell rang. There was a visitor. "Can you get that," Toriel asked. Frisk hopped up, and opened the door. Monster Kid was there.
"MK!" Frisk said excitedly.
"Yo, Frisk! I heard what you're doing today, and I was wonderin' if I could join you!"
"Sure, why not," Frisk said. Today, Frisk was going to check up on the people living in the city and help take note of any problems they had. Frisk was Ambassador between humans and monsters – mostly, that meant handling stuff that couldn't be changed with mere paperwork, and talking with both monsters and humans at a grassroots level. "Dad, you'll be at your house when I come by, right?"
"If that happens after three o'clock, then yes,"
"Cool, I'm heading out to check on everyone, Monster Kid's with me too."
"Have fun," Asgore said.
"And do not get into any trouble," Toriel said.
"You know I probably will," Frisk said.
Toriel sighed. "Do you at least have your backpack?"
"Uh…" Frisk said nervously, before running back upstairs to their room to grab said backpack, leaving MK with Toriel and Asgore.
Frisk arrived at their own room. It was pretty big, but only had one small bed in the corner, with a striped blanket that matched Frisk's shirt. There were bookshelves, a desk with a computer on it, and a small golden-yellow rug in the middle of the room that had nothing on it. At least, that's what anyone else would see. For Frisk, there was a golden star floating above the rug, the first (and currently only) SAVE point on the Surface. Frisk reached out to it and SAVED their progress – just in case. This was the happy ending for monsters, and Frisk wouldn't let it get taken away by anything. Frisk grabbed their backpack, and went downstairs.
"Welcome back, Frisk," Monster Kid said. "Are ya ready?"
"Yeah!"
"Alright, let's get going," MK said. The two kids left the house, and we're now on the street. Several houses were nearby.
"So, where to go first," MK said.
"Well, the skeletons live just next door, so let's go there," Frisk said. The two walked right next door to Sans and Papyrus's house, which was somehow the exact same as their house in Snowdin. Frisk knocked on the door, and Papyrus immediately opened it.
"GREETINGS, FRISK AND MK!" Papyrus said. "WHY DO YOU ENTER THE DOMAIN OF PAPYRUS!"
"We're just here to say hi," Frisk said. 'Oh, and check in on how you guys are doing here on the surface.
"WELL, I CAN'T SPEAK FOR MY BROTHER," Papyrus said. "BUT I'VE NEVER BEEN BETTER! I'M PRETTY SURE THE HUMANS LOVE ME! AND I FINALLY GOT MY VERY OWN CAR! I'LL HAVE TO DRIVE YOU AROUND IN IT SOMETIME!"
"That'd be fun," Frisk said. "Say, where's Sans."
"ASLEEP,"
"no i'm not," Sans said, walking out of the kitchen holding a large chunk of cheese. "i was just hungry. I'd make a joke about it, but it would be… cheesy."
"HONESTLY, I WAS JUST GUESSING." Papyrus said. "USUALLY, 'ASLEEP' IS A GOOD GUESS FOR WHAT MY BROTHER IS DOING!"
"won't deny it," Sans added. "that's actually pretty accurate. at least i actually sleep. you just spend the night training for battle."
"ONE DAY, I'LL JOIN THE ROYAL GUARD, AND BE THE GREATEST WARRIOR IN HISTORY!"
"Papyrus, the royal guard's been dissolved," MK said.
"DISSOLVED? LIKE IN ACID! NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" Papyrus said, looking defeated.
"...that's not what mk meant," Sans said. "they meant that the royal guard organization doesn't exist anymore… so you won't be able to join the royal guard."
"WELL THAT'S EVEN WORSE! WHAT WILL I DO NOW!"
"You could join the human royal guard, couldn't you!" Monster Kid said.
"DO HUMANS HAVE A ROYAL GUARD?"
"Not really. We just have police and military," Frisk said.
"Actually, they're going to be combining the Royal Guard WITH the police! Undyne told me!" Monster Kid said. "It's part of the agreements!"
"It's a little more complex than that," Frisk added. They then checked their nonexistent watch. "Well, we better be going, we have to go to – speak of the devil – Undyne and Alphys's place. See you later!"
"see you, kiddo," Sans said.
"BYE, HUMAN FRISK!" Papyrus added. "AND MONSTER KID, TOO! SOON, I'LL BE THE GREATEST MILITARY AND THE GREATEST POLICE OF ALL TIME!"
Frisk and Monster Kid left.
"Oh my goodness! He said my name!" Monster Kid said excitedly. "Papyrus is so cool!"
"Yeah, and he's such a nice person, too. He's the only monster I fought who never tried to kill me!" Frisk added.
"Hah, Undyne could never." MK said, smiling. "I still don't get why she attacked someone as nice as you!"
"I mean, it's obvious, she wanted to be the one to deliver my SOUL to Asgore. She wanted to be the hero of the Underground. It's what she trained her whole life for…" Frisk chuckled. "And she was bested by a ten-year-old."
"Hey, everyone knows humans are waaaay stronger than monsters!" MK said. "She should have known that! But then again, she isn't very smart-"
"Monster Kid!" Frisk said. "That's not very nice to her,"
"Is throwing spears nice to you?" MK asked.
"Look, I'll explain this better later. We're here, let's stop dissing her."
Alphys and Undyne's house was a rather average house on the outside, but it was home to Alphys's NEW LAB, where cutting-edge technology was being developed.
"Do you think you can knock?" MK asked. "I can't, 'cause y'know… no arms, and I'm still a kid so… no wings, either."
"Wait, wings?" Frisk asked, surprised.
"Uh, duh? Of course dragons have wings! Well, once they're grown up, at least."
"You're a DRAGON?!" Frisk asked, now even more surprised about what they were learning about their friend.
"Wait, you didn't know?" MK said. "What did you think I was?"
"I dunno, some type of armless lizard monster, I'm not trying to question what you guys look like, you have talking airplanes for crying out loud," Frisk said, opening the door without knocking. There was an opening hallway splitting into two directions – one lead to the kitchen, the other to the living room. From the living room Frisk could hear the sounds of a TV, and people on the couch.
"W-what was that…" One voice said. "I- I think someone's breaking in!"
"I'll go handle it for you, Alph!" Another voice said, before the sounds of loud footsteps. Frisk barely had time to react as glowing spears hurtled through the entrance, out the door, and were headed directly towards an unaware Monster Kid..
"MK!" Frisk said, reacting quickly, and dodging in reverse – jumping in the way of the spears. which hit Frisk in the front, but spared MK from taking any damage. The energy spears faded as Frisk fell backwards into the monster they just saved.
"What the heck just happened." MK said.
"Undyne! Be careful!" Frisk said.
"Oh my god, are you OK?" Undyne said. "I didn't realize it was you, you need to knock before you enter… but are you OK?"
"I'm fine, I'm fine, I just slept so my HP was higher than max," Frisk said. "And hey, good on you for trying to defend Alphys like that."
"Good on you for protecting MK," Undyne said. "Even if it was from… my mistake. Hey, actually, I JUST remembered: Alphys created this new scanner machine, and this might be the perfect opportunity to test it. It counts HP, I think. You too, Monster Kid,"
"Uh, okay," MK said. The two kids went inside to the living room. Alphys shut off the TV.
"L-let's go to the lab," Alphys said. "D-don't worry, it's not scary…"
"The lab? Cool!" MK said. "Uh, where is it?"
"It's way downstairs," Undyne said. "But you see this 'bathroom'? It's actually an elevator."
"Woah, that's so cool!" Monster Kid said. Undyne pressed a button on the TV remote, and the door opened, revealing an elevator. The four got in, and the elevator started descending into the New Lab. The elevator stopped moving, the doors opened, and…
"Here we are," Alphys said. "The new lab."
The new lab was relatively simple. It was a sterile, white environment with industrial lights on the ceiling. Doors lead over to other rooms. In the middle of the entrance was a desk with some tablet-like devices on it. "Ah, here it is," Alphys said. "The SOUL scanners… when Asgore was k-king, he told me… to 'design something that can test a soul's stats'. B-but they never worked, and then he h-hired a judge, so he didn't need these. But I've been redesigning them in my free time, and here they are. They can scan your soul, and… well, measure your stats. I haven't tested it on a human yet, so… can I?"
"Don't see why-not," Frisk said.
"Thanks," Alphys said, before picking up the tablet and pointing it at Frisk. An antenna poked out and beamed a laser pointer at Frisk, that moved around before stopping at their heart. It paused for a few seconds, then beeped, as the antenna retracted. "It's done," Alphys said, turning the scanner around for everyone to see."
STAT PROFILE FOR: FRISK
LV: 1
ATK: 0
DEF: 0
SPEED: x1
EXP: 000
HP: 10/20
"Why are they all so low," Monster Kid asked. "I thought Frisk was supposed to be strong,"
"Well," Alphys said. "Since humans d-don't have magic of their own… they don't have any natural attack or defense… but… Frisk, do you have any armor or weapons?"
"Not on me, but…" Frisk said, pulling out their phone, pressing a bunch of buttons, and summoning a worn knife and heart-shaped locket. "I have some in my DimBox." Frisk equipped the knife and put it on the locket.
The stats updated. Now, Frisk's ATTACK and DEFENSE were both 15.
"That makes sense. Now, scan me! Scan me!" MK said, as Frisk put away the knife and locket in their DimBox.
"Uh, okay…" Alphys said, repeating the process on Monster Kid.
STAT PROFILE FOR: MONSTER KID
LV: 1
ATK: 2
DEF: 2
SPEED: x1.2
EXP: 000
HP: 95/100
"Ha! I have more HP than you!" MK said, teasing Frisk.
"That… can't be right," Frisk said.
"Well, we have theories…" Alphys said. "Monster stats and Human stats are not equivalent. One human SOUL is equal to… every single monster, so one human HP would be equivalent to hundreds, maybe even…. Thousands of monster HP. Once I figure it out, I'll update my scanner with 'universal stats' that are the same for humans AND monsters. LOVE, EXP, and Soul Speed seem to be the same between the two, though."
"So… I'm not stronger than Frisk?"
"No monster is." Undyne said. "We should all be lucky Frisk's a good person…"
"Well, that was cool," MK said, "But, we really gotta get going now,"
"WAIT! What about me?" Undyne asked. "I don't think you've ever scanned me!"
"I'll do it… but you're not gonna like it," Alphys said, re-activating the machine, but this time targeting Undyne. It did its scanning, then beeped. Alphys looked unsurprised. Undyne peeked over and looked at the numbers.
"Yup," Undyne said. "About what I thought…"
STAT PROFILE FOR: UNDYNE
LV: 7
ATK: 50
DEF: 50
SPEED: x1.5
EXP: 851
HP: 1500/1500
"Wow, looks like you're really strong!" MK said, peering over the numbers.
"Stop being nosy!" Undyne said. "That's none of your business!"
"Can I see?" Frisk said.
"You can already CHECK most of these stats, and I don't really feel like telling you the others," Undyne said.
"It say: LV: 7, ATK: 50, DEF: 50, Spee-" MK started.
"Does anyone ever LISTEN to me?"
"Okay, okay," Frisk said. "Well, we actually came here to ask you guys how things are going, and it seems things are going fine, so we're gonna.. head over to Mettaton's house."
"Alright," Alphys said. "Well, we're gonna go f-finish our show, and… well, we'll see you later…"
"Bye Frisk! Sorry I accidentally attacked you!" Undyne said.
"Don't sweat it, you've done worse!" Frisk replied, as they and MK both left. Next stop: Mettaton's house.
Mettaton's house was a rich house and large house, the type that would be called by many humans a 'McMansion'. Frisk rang the doorbell, and Mettaton's TV music started to play.
"Uh…" Monster Kid said. "What?"
The door opened. Mettaton was there, though he was back in his more energy-efficient box form since he wasn't performing any shows right now. "Ah, greetings, visitors! Do you want autographs?"
"Mettaton, it's me?" Frisk said. "I'm here to check up on you guys,"
"Oh, of course, come on in, darling!" Mettaton said, gesturing for the two kids to come inside. He turned around. "Napstablook, Shyren, come downstairs!"
Napstablook phased through the ceiling and emerged in the kitchen, while Shyren floated down the stairs.
"hey… frisk." Napstablook said. "Welcome to the MTT mansion."
"Glad to be here!" Frisk said. "As I said, I'm here to check up on everyone, how have you guys been doing since you arrived on the surface?"
"Oh, well it's simply the greatest, isn't it! I've recently met these amazing talents for my show, as you know. Napstablook's DJ-ing skills are simply off the charts, as is Shyren's singing skills! I've truly never been happier!"
"yep," Napstablook said. "Back in the Underground… things were kinda depressing for me… but meeting mettaton and joining his show has changed everything for me…"
"Wait… so you only just met Mettaton?" Frisk questioned. This went… against their theories about the robot star.
"yeah, he approached me after the bright light and asked me to perform with him. I was a fan of his show before, though, back when I was all alone…"
"Hmm…" Frisk said. "Well, it seems like everythings going alright with you three, so we're gonna head over to Grillby's."
"WAIT!" Mettaton said. "I HAVE A SPECIAL GIFT FOR YOU, Frisk!"
Mettaton wheeled on ever to the monster. "IT'S AN EXCLUSIVE CD OF ALL OUR UPCOMING SONGS, PREMIERING LIVE IN CONCERT NEXT WEEK!"
Frisk accepted the CD MTT was holding. It read 'Mettaton's Surface Hits!", and the tracklist had songs like 'Welcome To My Special Hell (ft. Lemon Bread)', 'Killa Robot,' 'Death By Glamour (BLOOK Remix), 'Out Of The Underground', 'Summer in Hotland', and around 14 more.
"None of these song's have EVER BEEN HEARD BEFORE!" Mettaton said. "I HOPE YOU ENJOY THEM!"
Frisk and MK said their thanks as they went on their way. Their next stop was Grillby's Bar, a familiar establishment to the monsters. Frisk and Monster Kid walked into the bar
"Woah, this place is cool! My parents would be so mad if I was here!" MK said.
"Honestly, mine would be too," Frisk said, as they sat down at the bar. "I mean, it's literally a bar – Two chocolate shakes please, put it on Sans's tab – not exactly a family establishment."
"What makes me mad is that they wouldn't be mad if my sister was here, and she's the same age as me. But GK is so smart and so good at everything compared to me… that's always what happens with siblings. One of them gets special treatment, and the other… doesn't."
"I'm sure having siblings is not that bad…" Frisk said.
"Believe me, it is," Monster Kid said. "Your parents – Toriel and Asgore – are good people, but imagine if they had kids."
Frisk's face dropped. They did, Frisk wanted to say. And they… it was horrible. But they didn't want to hurt MK's feelings. "Well, I guess we'll just agree to disagree… and talk about something else."
"Okay, okay," MK said. "Sheesh. So, what do you think about going to school? It's only, like, a month before the school year starts."
"Man, I don't know," Frisk said. "I'm not exactly popular among the humans these days, considering I'm the one who brought y'all here. School might suck, honestly.
Grillby placed the two chocolate shakes on the bar table. "Thanks," MK said. "And that's sad to hear, I hope things get better,"
"But, I never actually went to school, even… before I fell… and I'm definitely looking forward to the opportunity to learn," Frisk said, taking a sip from the chocolate shake. Frisk got up and looked around. "Oh, hey, the K9's are here! Wanna go visit them?"
"Sure," MK said. They walked over to the table, where Lesser Dog, Greater Dog, Dogamy, Dogaressa, and Doggo were playing a game of poker.
"Oh, I gotta warn you two," a lion monster in a dress said. "Those dogs are serious card sharks. I would not recommend joining their table."
"Yeah," a younger purple reptile added. "And I don't even understand their stupid game!"
"Who are you two?"
"Oh, I'm just the one making sure nobody messes with this little orphan here," the Dress Lion said. "Also, I serve food here. My name's Leo, this is Suzy,"
"Buzz off," Suzy said. Frisk has vague memories of a… clam girl mentioning Suzy?"
"I swear I've heard of you before," Frisk said.
"Yeah, you're the human that freed us. Who cares," Suzy said.
"Ooh, you remind me of my sister!" Monster Kid said.
"Then it's a good thing I'm an only child," Suzy replied.
"Let's just leave those people alone…" Frisk said, checking their phone. "Oh, it's noon, didn't you say you have to be home at noon?"
"Yup!" MK said. "Anyway, let's go to the library!"
"Actually…" Frisk said. "You probably should go home. I'm going to the human side of town next, where Monsters aren't exactly… well liked. It'll be dangerous for you… and for me, but I can handle it."
"Okay…" MK said, leaving the bar with Frisk. "Well, I'll see you later… meet you at Asgore's?"
"I'll meet you there," Frisk said.
"Bye!" MK said, running off. They did not trip over. Now it was just Frisk.
Frisk walked out of the street they lived on, and into the monorail station. Ebbott City had a monorail, connecting Ebbot Heights to Downtown, then the Airport, and then to Old Resort, in a loop. Old Resort, a buildup of cheap houses for a planned ski resort that was never built, was where most monsters lived. Downtown was a mix. And just past downtown, near the mountain highway, was Ebott Heights, the rich side of town, and also the anti-monster part of town. Very few monsters lived there; the only family Frisk could remember from their journeys Underground were the family of a certain ice cream salesman, funnily enough. Why they chose to live there, Frisk would never know. Frisk booked a monorail ticket and boarded a monorail car.
Once the Monorail started, a voice appeared over the loudspeaker. "Welcome aboard the CODOT Monorail System! Please note that Monster passengers are not allowed to disembark at the Airport. We also ask that you remain seated during your trip." Frisk sat down in a seat, and zoned out on a mobile game.
The monorail car came to a halt, with a ding announcing they arrived in Ebott Heights. Frisk put away the phone, which was about to die anyway, and exited on Ebott Heights. The Monorail left for the airport, leaving Frisk and the other disembarkers in the suburban neighborhood of Ebott heights. Ebott Heights was home to expensive, orderly, suburban homes, with neat lawns. Families lived there, and kids were playing outside of houses while parents were grilling – it was a very idyllic place. As Frisk walked down the street, a man approached them outside a small red house.
"Hey! You!"
"What is it?"
"What are you doing here! You should not be in this part of town, or ANY part of ANY town, you filthy monster-hugger!"
"Whatever," Frisk said, walking past the annoying man.
"You'll regret this! I'm armed and dangerous-"
"No I won't," Frisk said, as they started walking to the Nice Cream Guy's house, which wasn't far from the monorail station. On their way there, they started to notice what looked like a large party or gathering – many people were gathered, chatting. Outside the house was a political sign – 'Monsters Out!', it read. A human man started to speak to the crowd. Frisk decided to listen in.
"Three months ago, demonic monsters emerged from Mt. Ebott! But instead of rightfully sending back to where they belong, the leadership has decided that they should live in our cities, and intermingle with our people, our families! These literal monsters are against us, our God, and our country. The Fourth of July is soon… and I hope that we'll be able to celebrate, with monsters gone from Ebott City! I hope you join us tonight at Johnson Park, where we'll be able to have our voices heard! But for now… I've heard that there's a monster living here! On this street! I'm not suggesting anybody do anything against the law, but… it would be nice if it was gone from here! Think about this, and see you tonight!"
The crowd started to cheer. Frisk felt a feeling of sheer anger, but decided not to make a scene. They overheard a few people talking.
"Maybe we should force that thing out… it lives in the blue house, with the ice cream van outside," A pale man with brown hair said.
"Wouldn't we get arrested?" A woman with long hair asked.
"Arrested by who? The police?" A ginger man said. "I'm an officer myself, and half the department is here right now!"
"Yeah," a second man added. "We're not gonna arrest you for doing what's right. But, you should go now."
"Let's march!" The ginger man said.
"Yeah!" The woman added.
"Oh no…" Frisk whispered to themself. "They're gonna attack the Nice Cream Guy. I've gotta run and save him!"
Frisk started running ahead and ended up at the Nice Cream Guy's house. They knocked frantically, and the Nice Cream Guy answered.
"Nice Cream Guy!" Frisk said. "There's people… they're gonna attack you?"
"Oh, those guys? I knew they'd be a problem. Well, thanks for warning me kid, I'll go get in my van. You should come with me… it isn't safe. Also, my name isn't 'Nice Cream Guy, it's actually-"
"C'mon, they're getting closer!" Frisk interrupted.
"Oh, alright," Nice Cream Guy said, taking Frisk out to the van. He opened the door and got in the driver's seat. "Get in!"
"Look, it's trying to steal a child!" The woman said.
"Stop it!" The second cop added.
"Get away, I'll deal with them!" Frisk said.
"I'm not gonna leave you," The Nice Cream Guy said.
"I need to convince them you're not a kidnapper! It's my job!"
"Oh… alright," Nice Cream Guy said. They closed their door, and started to drive off.
"He's getting away!" The brown-
haired man said.
"The child's safe!" The woman added.
"He's not a kidnapper, you idiots!" Frisk said. "Calm down!"
"Wait a minute… that's not just any child…" The first cop said. "That's the one who brought those filthy creatures here in the first place! Get 'em!"
The other two guys followed the cop in chasing Frisk, who at this point was running back to the Monorail station. The fourth one was on her phone, 'posting about the situation on Facebook' as she told the other guy. Frisk just kept on running – they were good at this after the situation with Undyne. Frisk tried to check their phone – Undyne would actually be pretty helpful now, since she was good at scaring off any humans who tried to hurt monsters in previous situations like that. But the phone was out of battery. Frisk also couldn't access their Dimensional Boxes, meaning no weapons or armor to protect themself, and no food to heal. Actually, it was probably for the better that they didn't use a weapon. Frisk would rather the humans get to them then to get caught attacking anyone. That would set back everything… too big of a risk. And they didn't want to FIGHT anyway.
The humans were getting closer, and Frisk now knew their only hope was to make it to the Monorail station. At the very least, the security there could help them, and they'd also have an easy out in the form of the railroad home. Only around a hundred yards to go…
"Why can't you catch that thing!" The third man said.
"They're too agile!" The second guy said.
"Oh come on, you guys are cops, how can you not catch a CHILD!" The first guy said.
"Yeah, come on," Frisk taunted. The ran passed a blue house, then a green house, then a small red house, where they noticed the crazy guy from earlier was sitting in a chair in fron of the sidewalk. Frisk didn't notice him sticking out his leg, tripping them over, and they fell forwards right onto the pavement. It really hurt.
"Dude, what's wrong with you!" Frisk said, struggling to get back up.
"Now it's time to make 'ya pay," The man said, revealing that he was carrying a baseball bat..
"Wait, you're gonna kill the kid? I was just gonna scare 'em outta here." The first guy said. "You're crazy!"
"Yeah, well… this is what y'all get…" The crazy man said, ready to swing his bat at Frisk. "Monster-lover. Any last words?"
"Someone! Please help!" Frisk called. "Please!"
But nobody came. With a powerful swing to the head, Frisk (who was only at 10 HP) was killed instantly.
It was a dark and empty void. There were giant letters that said 'GAME OVER'. Frisk heard a familiar voice.
"Chara!" The voice, one Frisk now recognized as Asgore said. "You have to stay determined! You are the future of humans and monsters!"
"Well, this isn't good," Frisk said out loud. "Hey… wait. Why am I hearing this, anyway? This is Chara's memory… not mine – I remember the lab tapes. But… why would I be experiencing Chara's memory?"
"You are correct," another voice said. "Maybe I should adjust the message."
Suddenly, the voice of Asgore started to speak again. "Frisk," it said. "You cannot give up yet. You are the future of humans and monsters. You must save everyone! Stay determined!"
"Asgore never said that," Frisk said.
"Technically, Asgore never said the first thing, either. It was slightly different in actuality." The voice said. "I should know. I was there."
"Chara!" Frisk said, recognizing now who was talking to them. "You're the first human to fall into the underground…"
"Indeed," Chara said. "And I'm also a part of your very soul. The voice that's been in your head since you fell into the underground. I have been guiding you, helping you, encouraging you. Whatever decisions you make, I hold you to them, and make sure you finish what you have started. You're goal this time was to save everyone. You have not done that yet."
"What do you mean?" Frisk asked. "I know some monsters chose to stay underground, but…"
"I do not mean them. I am talking about nine people. First of all – there is myself, and Asriel Dreemurr. The other six souls were once people, too. You must bring them back. You must also recover the scientist lost to space and time – he will be necessary if you wish to bring anyone else back."
"I'm not saying I wont do it," Frisk said. "But.. what happens if I don't?"
"Then I will need you to reset back to zero. You do not wish to know what I will do to force you." Chara said.
"Fine, fine." Frisk said. "Look, I'm willing to do whatever it takes to bring them back, OK?"
"We will see if you truly are," Chara said. "You will likely have to kill others, or die yourself, even if it will be undone in the end. It will not be easy, But this is not a good place to talk. Go back to the real world. Cancel your pointless trip around town for today. Find the scientist. Soon, I will be there to guide you… partner."
"See you then, Chara," Frisk said. Frisk accessed their save file. They chose to continue. Frisk was back in their bedroom, now. Frisk grabbed their backpack, and went downstairs.
"Welcome back, Frisk!" Monster Kid said. "Are you ready?"
"Sorry," Frisk said. "I have something else to do today. Go visit your other friends."
"But… I don't have other friends."
"Well… I'm gonna help you change that…" Frisk said. I will bring them back. I promise.
Frisk went straight to Alphys and Undyne's house. This time, they knocked, so Undyne didn't accidentally attack her friend with spears, and Frisk told Alphys they needed to talk to her alone. Alphys unlocked the secret lab, and they went into the basement down the elevator. Alphys and Frisk sat down at Alphys's desk.
"So…w-what is it you need to talk about?" Alphys asked. "Is it about t-the amalgamates?"
"No, not that," Frisk said. "I need to know about-"
"About Mettaton? S-sory, but I promised I'd never t-tell any-"
"That's not it either." Frisk said.
"T-then what… is it?" Alphys said. She looked like she was on the verge of a nervous breakdown.
"I need to know about W.D. Gaster."
