The Dragon and the Moonless Sky
Chapter 1: Infinite Meets Nothingness
~Enjoy~
Infinity is a concept that most mortals could never grasp. Those who tried understand it as merely an endlessness. But that was all they could comprehend. They could never see the all encompassing nothingness that resides with infinity.
Infinity is absolute.
Infinity is everlasting.
Infinity was the silent nothingness.
That was what Ophis, the Infinite Dragon God, desired to have once more. She is infinity, that silent and absolute infinity that comprised her being. She was born from the silent nothingness and that silence was all she had known, spawned from the chaotic energies within the Dimensional Gap. Without the endless nothingness, she was not whole.
The concept of age and time was foreign to her, for infinity was ageless. She had no idea of how much time had passed since the start of her existence. She hadn't even known that she had a female gender until she endeavored on her first foray into the infant world called Earth, taking on the preferred appearance she holds to this day.
It was during this trip into the mortal realm in which she became introduced to the customs and behaviors of these lesser beings. She had seen their youths age and become dust lost to the sands of time. She had discovered their fleeting desires of love and companionship, bore witness to kings and empires rise and fall. She became acquainted with the primal motivations that drove these humans to act, that of lust and war.
Ophis herself felt the stirrings of curiosity to take on a bedmate but never acted upon them. She had felt inklings of these things that sentience had given birth to called emotions. She felt them but quelled them with the chaotic infinity that made up her existence. With her curiosity satiated, after several hundred years of toiling with this infant species, she returned to her domain in the Dimensional Gap.
It was upon her return that she had found another being had taken up residence in her home, another massive dragon that had claimed domain over the Dream. The Great Red, he called himself, a dragon with incredible power that even she came to acknowledge.
Being of draconic origin, both the Infinite and the Dream had territorial instincts that surfaced once they came face to face with one another, and a titanic battle had ensued. The scope of their conflict had destroyed many realms and dimensions and claimed the lives of many primordial deities and pantheons.
Once the fight ended in a stalemate, resulting in both the Infinite and the Dream bearing heavy injuries, the two Dragon Gods agreed on a cease fire, deciding to exist separately within their own pockets of the Dimensional Gap.
The Dream retreated back to his bastion of the Infinity while the Infinite stayed in her own, watching and observing as the supernatural factions waged their wars and vied for their own existences and destroying any stragglers who tried to make their way into her silent nothingness. The two great Dragon Gods never met since then, leaving one another to their own devices lest another calamitous battle take place and potentially fracturing the Gap that the two powers call home.
Until now.
Ophis sensed it immediately when it started. She felt a tear into her home and it alerted her immediately. A wave of incredible power flooded her domain of the Dimensional Gap and it lingered in the silence. She made her way immediately to the area where it originated from.
The Dream must have felt it as well, as soon after the presence was felt, he made his way to the area Ophis had arrived at. Ophis spared him a glance, her territorial instincts flaring for a moment before she quelled them in favor of her wariness to this sudden unknown intrusion.
The Great Red spoke, "Ophis! What is happening here?!"
The Infinite shook her head before responding. "I do not know, Red One. It seems that another being is attempting to invade my home."
The Great Red scoffed. "Do you mean our home? I believe we agreed to share it, Infinite One. Or need I remind you that you cannot evict me just as I cannot remove you?"
Ophis glared at the massive red dragon beside her "Silence, you red oaf. I will find a way to kill you. But for now, I must turn my attention to this other nuisance invading my home."
The Great Red scoffs again. "Hmph. Insolent girl."
Ophis ignored the Great Red's comment as the fracture in space grew. The Dream and the Infinite tensed and prepared to eliminate the being who dared trespass into their shared territory. The tear in the Dimensional Gap shined a brilliant bluish light until it dimmed to reveal what seemed to be a young man with long, waist length black hair covered in grayish-black bandages and a tattered Japanese hakama.
The Dream and the Infinite gazed in wide eyed curiosity as the man appeared to be sleeping as he passed through the Dimensional Gap before them. Another tear in space opened before the man disappeared into it. Ophis noticed that the Gap seemed to be taking him to an area in the mortal world called Earth.
The only reason the Dream and the Infinite did not immediately act on erasing the strange dimension wanderer's existence is because he treaded upon their territory unknowingly, and judging from his obvious lack of consciousness, unwillingly at that.
Once the man left, Great Red spoke. "Hmph. It seems some power has brought him to the human world."
Ophis nodded in agreement. "It is odd. He was brought here from some other plane against his knowledge. I shall keep watch." She turned to the massive red dragon. "Now leave, Red One. Your presence nauseates me."
The Dragon God of Dream growls. "Watch your tone, Infinite One. You are just as unwanted to me as I am to you. We shall fight once more. And the next time, I shall prove that you are not as infinite as you believe yourself to be."
With the Great Red leaving on unkind words, Ophis scowled as he departed to his pocket of reality. Ophis knew his words rang true. The two will have to fight again. There has been a tense cease fire between them since before the Mourning Star fell. She knew at her current power, the most she could accomplish is another stalemate. That would not be enough.
If she was honest, the current situation was at the very least ideal. The two Dragon Gods left each other alone. This was the first time the two had met since their battle, the resulting energies destroying several primordial gods and birthing others. But another battle was unavoidable, and both knew that. And while the Dream seemed eager and ready to finish things, Ophis knew that he was just as wary as she was. But Ophis wanted to reclaim her Infinity. And she knows she'll need help to gain it.
Her mind turns to the strange being she saw moments ago. His power was interesting. This wasn't the first time she thought to look for help in reclaiming the Dimensional Gap. She once returned to the human world to search for strong beings to fight against Great Red. But Ophis was not stupid. From interacting with them, she could sense their ulterior motives. So she decided against recruiting them, even outright destroying a few to be safe. They were not strong enough to help against The Great Red anyways.
But this man, this alien being from another world was intriguing. While the power she felt in the Gap was already fascinating, it was not his own. But Ophis could see what lay beneath the surface. His own power that lay within him was massive, greater than any other she had seen, even those 'gods' that claim domain over the mortal world. In knowing this, Ophis made a decision.
It was time to return to the mortal world once more. She would find this man. She will get him to join her. And she will get rid of Great Red.
(Outside of Kyoto)
Ichigo Kurosaki opens his eyes to see himself surrounded by a dense forest. Leaning up with a groan, he fully takes in his settings. With a half lidded chuckle, he comes to an acceptance. "You crazy bastard. You actually did it."
Ichigo Kurosaki, acclaimed 'hero' of the Extinction War, formerly called the 'Thousand Year Blood War,' had finally landed in another world.
Slowly, he brings himself to his feet, inwardly recalling the last events of his life in his former world. Ywach successfully unsealed the fully evolved Aizen and things went to shit after the two teamed up. It was a long 12 year war. He saw himself burying friends and family, failing promise after promise of saving his loved ones and saving the world. At last, he underwent an ascension into true godhood, merging the three souls within himself.
In the years leading up to his final battle with both Aizen and Ywach, the Great War had spilled into the mortal realm. It left his world scarred and inhospitable for most humans due to the excess spiritual energy and roaming hollows that fed on human souls. Towards the end of the war, the Earth was a mostly desolate tundra full of death and hopelessness.
Ichigo, or Mugetsu as he now identified as, had fought a losing battle from the start. At first, the Gotei 13 fought to repel Ywach and his forces, losing Genryusai Yamamoto early in the war. After thousands of losses for the Shinigami, the war had come to a stalemate. And then Ywach unsealed Aizen.
That was when the 'Thousand Year Blood War' became the 'Extinction War.' What was once a war between two races had escalated into a war of survival, where loss meant the destruction of all souls. Aizen, with his fully merged Hogyoku, quickly took back control of Hueco Mundo and transformed thousands of hollows into arrancar loyal to him. The Shinigami found themselves overwhelmed and on the defensive soon after.
The war waged on, claiming the lives of many of his allies and close friends. By the time he gained his ascension, there were barely any forces left to rally against the combined might of Aizen and Ywach. In one last desperate effort, Mugetsu battled against the two transcendents, successfully killing them both.
Unfortunately, the battle claimed all but a few lives. The only one remaining from his original friends was Kisuke Urahara. Desperate to repay Mugetsu back and to give him a life beyond the hell that remained, Kisuke fashioned a new Hogyoku from what remained of Aizen's and sent him to a world beyond the hellscape that he now knew as home.
The calm rationale that once belonged to the piece of soul he called Ossan had steadied him and was the only thing keeping Mugetsu from breaking down. He inhaled deeply and vowed to live on, carrying the memories of those he left behind. He would not falter. He would not break.
He turned and headed towards the clearing but something halted his advancement. Mugetsu laid his eyes upon what appeared to be a girl, somewhere in her mid to late teens.
She was fairly tall from a girl, around 5'6" if he had to guess. She had extremely fair skin and long hair as black as his own. She also had eyes of the deepest black he'd ever seen. She wore a long black sundress which worked to hide her natural curves. Mugetsu saw that she was a very beautiful girl. She also had unnaturally pointy ears. Well, they may be natural for her but unnatural for him.
Before he could speak, she beat him to it. "Wanderer."
The word caused him to blink in alarm, but otherwise he showed no outward reaction. He replied, "Me?" She gave a faint nod in answer. He said, "I'm not from around her, if that is what you're asking." It wasn't a question, though, merely a statement.
The girl shook her head. "No. You are not a wanderer of this world. You are a wanderer of dimensions."
That caught Mugetsu by surprise. He narrowed his eyes, ready to strike this girl down if need be. "And how would you know that?" He asked in a deadly serious tone.
She showed a small amused smile. "I witnessed your arrival, through my home, the Dimensional Gap."
Mugetsu tilted his head in intrigue. "'Dimensional Gap?'" She nodded her head. "What's a 'Dimensional Gap?'"
The girl explained, "A place between the various dimensions of this world. It is where I was born, a place of Infinite silence. I am Ophis, the one known as the Infinite."
'The Infinite'. That is an interesting title. So there must be a supernatural world to accompany the mundane world here as well. "I see. So your name is Ophis then?" She nods. "It's nice to meet you. My name is-" he pauses before continuing, "Mugetsu."
He could not call himself Ichigo Kurosaki anymore, that was but a single part of the full assimilation of himself. To keep this name would be to acknowledge the first part of who he was. Mugetsu was someone else entirely. Mugetsu was someone else.
Ophis nods. "Mugetsu." The man nods. "Will you help me?"
Mugetsu raises an eyebrow. "Help you?"
Ophis replies, "Yes."
Mugetsu asks, "With what?"
The answer was much stranger than he had expected. "To kill the Great Red."
Mugetsu blinks in confusion. "What is the Great Red?"
Ophis answers, "The Dragon of Dream that lives in the Dimensional Gap with me. He does not belong there. He wants to take my home from me."
Mugetsu furrows his brow at this. A dragon wants to take this girl's home from her? He does not like the sound of that. Granted, the girl is anything but a normal girl, still.
Mugetsu feels the desire to help this girl. Although, with a title like 'Infinite' she must hold a lot of power. But for her to ask for his help must mean that this Dragon of Dream holds just as much power if not more than a girl who holds the title of 'Infinite.'
But first and foremost, Mugetsu must become acquainted with this world before deciding to help someone with fighting a dragon. Priorities and whatnot.
Mugetsu sighs. "Well, umm... Ophis, right?" She nods. "As you know, I'm new to this world." She nods again. "Obviously, with that, I need to learn more about this place before I decide to get myself involved with any sort of conflict." Ophis tilts her head in intrigue. "Give me some time before I make a decision. I don't want to blindly involve myself with the supernatural world once more without knowing what I'm agreeing to."
Ophis nodded in understanding. How could she not? Curiosity about this world is what had brought her to her current situation. Agreeing, she said, "Very well. I shall help you."
Again, Mugetsu was surprised at this Infinite being. "Excuse me?"
And again, Ophis nods. "I shall help you acquaint yourself with this world. It will pass the time before you decide to help me."
With that, the girl turned and began to walk out the clearing. Mugetsu stood dumbfounded at the girl's words before realizing that she was getting further and further away. Considering he was stranded in an unfamiliar place, he decided it wouldn't do him any good to let her get away.
"Hey, wait up! Just what did you mean by that?! Hey, wait!"
As he followed after the mysterious Ophis, he found a familiar thought run through his mind.
'Just what the hell have I gotten myself into?!'
(Meanwhile)
(In Heaven)
The Archangel Michael was incensed.
Moments ago, a massive power washed over Kyoto, undoubtedly alerting all the other supernatural factions as well. The wave of power completely scrambled all of Heaven's sensors, leaving them in a sensory blackout for a few moments before adjusting.
Instantly, Michael mobilized all of Heaven's scouts and recon personnel to track down the origin of the power that was felt.
With no luck.
Uriel implored Michael to allow him to form a team to personally storm Kyoto and find the source, an idea which Michael shot down immediately. Such a move would almost instantly spark the Second Great War.
Raphael, being a much calmer and rational Archangel, suggested speaking to Yasaka, head of the Kyoto Youkai Faction, to coordinate a search effort to find the source. It was a much more diplomatic solution and much more effective, if not for the fact that Yasaka refused to speak to any of the Biblical Factions.
So Michael was stuck.
He needed to find the source of this immense energy. Any faction that located and recruited this being would immediately have the balance of power tipped in their favor. Should they go to war again, Heaven was almost guaranteed to face extinction.
But Michael was at a loss. He couldn't located the being through conventional methods, being technology or information from the local population, and he couldn't act too rashly lest he face retaliation.
So Michael chose the only option he could at the moment: let things play out and pray for the best.
(In the Underworld)
Sirzechs Lucifer, holder of the title of Lucifer within the Four Devil Kings, sigh in exasperation as he had to sit through another council meeting addressing the sudden surge of power that was felt throughout the Underworld. He was sure that the supernatural world at large felt the same thing. But instead of working to find the source, he was forced to sit through a council meeting discussing what should be done about it. Honestly, life would be much easier if he didn't need to deal with these old fools.
"...demands that we should storm Kyoto and tear the whole city apart to find this power!"
"...good for the devils to use again those lesser factions!"
"It's those disgusting youkai! We should have killed them all from the start!"
Ugh. With how these devils talk, you would think they were the ones to fight two wars for the survival of the devil race.
Deciding enough was enough, Sirzechs demanded silence by flaring his demonic power. "SILENCE!" And just like that, silence was attained. You can't say shit unless you have the power to be heard.
Glaring at the bigoted fools in front of him, Sirzechs gave them all a vicious glare. And with a venomous tone to match, he stated, "We will not be making any rash moves against the Kyoto Youkai Faction. Any such actions will be seen as an act of war, a war which none of you fools will survive."
The council collectively flinched at the words. One foolish devil had the audacity to speak up. "B-but sir, should one of the other factions come into possession of even a fraction of what we felt, it could spell disaster for us." A chorus of agreements was heard throughout the room.
Sirzechs merely waited before saying, "I'm well aware of the risks. However, we are already on thin ice with the Kyoto Youkai Faction due to the Nekoshou Incident," he stated while passing a sharp glare towards one Zekram Bael, who remained impassive the entire time. "An incident from which we are still trying to heal our political wounds. And with the forced reincarnations of members from other factions, our reputation with the different pantheons are at an all time low. Some a just waiting for an excuse to go to war with us and a brash action against a lesser faction is all they need as reason."
After a moment to let his words sink in, the aforementioned Zekram Bael spoke up, "So what do you propose is the best course of action, Sirzechs?"
Said man glared at the ancestor of the Bael clan for not addressing him by his title. "Nothing. We simply wait for this to pass."
Immediately, a chorus of protests erupted throughout the council chambers. After a moment to let them vent their frustrations, Sirzechs once again flared his power to silence them. "That is my final verdict. At most, we will send a team to infiltrate the Kyoto Youkai Faction to investigate and report any findings. Any show of force will be seen as an act of war. Any who go against this order will be punished with death. That is all. Dismissed!"
Sirzechs sighed as he exited the council chambers. He looked up to find his fellow Satan, Serafall Leviathan, waiting for him. He greeted his friend with a gentle but tired smile. "Hey Sera. Any news?"
Serafall shook her head with a concerned expression marring her beautiful face. "Unfortunately no, Zechs-chan. I asked Beli-chan to go and investigate as discreetly as possible, but she came up with nothing."
Sirzechs frowned at Serafall's response. "This anomaly comes at the worst possible time, too. Tensions between our factions are at an all time high and the slightest misstep could land us in the middle of another Great War."
Serafall nods. "It worries me that it isn't too far from So-tan's and Ria-tan's future territory. If the one. who caused this isn't found..."
"...they could end up encountering, or worse, fighting Rias and Sona." Sirzechs finished Serafall's statement for her.
Unfortunately for both of them, they couldn't imagine just how true those words were at the time.
(At the Grigori)
While the other two factions are dealing with their own issues regarding the arrival of Mugetsu, Azazel is facing his own problems with the situation as well. While Heaven and the Devils were quick to respond to the situation, the information source for the governor of the Fallen Angels was delayed due to the heavy mistrust Kyoto had for the Grigori. But unlike for the Angels and Devils, Azazel's information was much more detailed.
And it was because of these details that Azazel worried so much. Or more precisely, the appearance of a black haired teenage girl with pointed ears. A girl Azazel had unfortunately encountered (i.e. tried and failed to seduce) in the past. He recognized her immediately.
How could he not? Said girl put the fear of his Father into him. Of course, Azazel was a much rowdier man back then and he wasn't accustomed to rejection. But that day was one of the few times he had come close to death.
He'd never forget that power. He'd never forget that fear. He'd never forget that face.
The face of Ophis, the Infinite Dragon God.
Cold sweat ran down his back as he looked into the cold black eyes of Ophis. Even through this picture, he could feel the phantom pains of wounds long since healed from his encounter with the Dragon God. He cursed himself for being so stupid as a younger Fallen.
'Ophis! What the hell is she doing back on Earth?!'
Azazel looked at the face of the man she was seen walking through Kyoto with. Hair as black as the night, eyes as red as blood. Much like with Ophis, Azazel could feel something off about this man from the photo alone. If he is in the company of Ophis, you can guarantee that he is anything but normal.
"Azazel." His attention was drawn to his Fallen Angel cadre and close friend, Shemhazai. "What's wrong? Did you find something?"
Azazel's momentary bout of fear grows into a concerned visage. He pushes the picture taken of Ophis and Mugetsu towards Shemhazai. "This photo, taken of these two. Do you recognize them?"
Shemhazai takes the photo and studies it for a moment. He shakes his head, looking to Azazel. "No I don't their appearance is certainly odd but not too unlike that of normal Youkai. I take it this is from Kyoto, right?" Azazel nods. "Then I'm guessing it must be a Youkai couple, maybe even siblings, correct?"
This time, Azazel shakes his head in the negative. "No... the girl... that's... Ophis. The Infinite Dragon God."
Shemhazai's eyes widen in disbelief. He is momentarily stunned by Azazel's statement before replying, "Ophis?! Azazel, you can't be serious! She never leaves the Dimensional Gap! How do you even know this, Azazel?!"
An involuntary shiver traverses the Fallen Leader's spine. "I... had a run in with her centuries ago. I'll never forget that monster's face for as long as I live."
Shemhazai grimaces. If Azazel says something like that, it's safe to say his encounter with the Infinite Dragon God was definitely not a pleasant one. He looks back towards the picture. "Then... if that girl is the Infinite Dragon God, then who is he?"
Azazel shakes his head. "I have no idea. This is the first time I'm seeing him. But if he is with the Ouroboros Dragon, then you can best believe he is anything but normal."
Shemhazai nods. "He must be what caused the shockwave we felt. How do you propose we act?"
Azazel ponders this for a moment before answering. "We monitor them as best we can. Ophis has never interfered with the supernatural world before. I heard rumors she was moving centuries ago but her intentions were never made clear until she disappeared completely, presumably returning to the Dimensional Gap."
Shemhazai nods. Several powerful beings spoke of being approached by someone claiming to be Ophis but they remained rumors. Apparently, some humans gifted with the Sacred Gears had also mysteriously vanished as well as a few demigods and powerful devils. It was assumed Ophis had killed them since these incidents occurred around the time rumors began circulating of her appearance.
Shemhazai says, "I'm assuming approaching them is out of the question?"
"Yes." Was the reply Azazel gave. "I'd rather not tempt the Ouroboros Dragon to move against us. And if this man is with her, we can assume he is powerful as well, since he caught the Infinite Dragon God's attention. That thing even considers beings like us as lowly ants. For something to be considered worth her time, he must..."
"Be strong enough to send shockwaves through the supernatural world." Shemhazai finishes for Azazel. The Fallen Governor just nods. Shemhazai releases a sigh, a sentiment Azazel soon follows after.
It was damn stressful to lead a supernatural faction.
(Kyoto Youkai Faction)
(With Yasaka)
The beautiful nine-tailed fox had many ideas when it came to spending an evening in her faction. She could spend it sitting on her veranda, sipping some exquisite tea while watching her daughter, Kunou, play in the yard. She could be soaking in the hot springs, washing away the stress that comes with being a leader of a supernatural faction. Hell, she could spend it in a stuffy council meeting, listening to those old coots go on and on about how they should be the ones making demands of the Biblical factions and preaching about traditions long past their usefulness.
But not this.
Anything but this.
Not in the presence of this... this... monster! No, not monster. That's an insult to all monsters.
This thing is simply a reject of all of creation. It simply lacks the fundamentals that make it, well, what it should be. It makes no sense! It has sentience but lacks a conscience. It has reason but lacks morals. It was simply power given form, born from nothing and given existence. It saw all things, both mundane and supernatural, as beneath it. As if all was fleeting and she was absolute.
But then, why?
Why, of all things, was Ophis, the Infinite Dragon God, sitting in her meeting room?!
And with a boy, no less?!
Yasaka was nervous. Honestly, she was terrified. Ophis was just sitting there, next to the boy she called Mugetsu, staring at her. Why was she so scared? Ophis wasn't exuding any of her power. If she did, she had no doubt that half, if not all, of Kyoto would be ruins by now, if not merely dust in the winds. But Yasaka could see it. She had seen it once before.
Back when she was a young five-tailed kitsune in training, she had walked by her on the streets of a much younger Kyoto. She hadn't fully gained control of her sensory abilities at the time, but that was all it took for her to peer into the infinite depths of this creature's power. She hadn't remembered its face. Hell, she didn't even know it had a gender. All she could remember was that power. It was so vast, so endless that she could taste it. She could never forget that power.
And that was the only reason she remembered who this was when they first appeared before her. This was a being who could end her existence with a flick of her finger. And yet, here she was, asking something of her.
"I-I'm sorry, could you repeat that?" She curses herself for showing a moment of weakness by stuttering.
"I want you to teach Mugetsu about this world, both mundane and supernatural."
Well, asking was a bit of a stretch. She was demanding something of her.
As if Yasaka could refuse anything of Ophis. Yasaka was by no means a weak individual. Her presence is what stops other factions from encroaching upon the Youkai faction's territory. Alone, she could destroy armies. She could match Azazel, Michael, and even Serafall Leviathan in one on one combat. But with the use of the Leylines, she could match Ajuka and Sirzechs in combat. Barely, but she could do it.
Yet with all her power and acclaim, it was nothing before this Dragon God. Still. She had her pride and she would not give in so easily.
"And why are you asking me of all people? I'm sure any one of the other factions would be willing to teach Mugetsu-san the things you want." There's definitely something else Ophis wants. Is it the Dragon Gate? But Ophis shouldn't need the Dragon Gate. Maybe it's something for the strange young man with her. Yes, that has to be it. There's no way it could be anything-
"You were closer."
...
'EXCUSE ME?!'
Yasaka didn't know whether to be furious or frightful at the moment. No, she was definitely leaning towards furious! Of all the other factions she could barge into, she chose hers because of CONVENIENCE?! Who does this little dragon bitch think she is?!
With a huff, she folds her arms under her bountiful bust. And with the hardest glare she could muster in her current situation, Yasaka replies, "I don't see what benefit I could gain from taking my time to teach him what you ask of me. What's in it for me?"
Yeah, that was a mistake. Yasaka knew it as she began to pale at the deep purple miasma that began to radiate off of the Infinite Dragon God at her words. Okay, she might have forgotten what kind of predicament she was in due to her temper.
'Lady Amaterasu, please forgive this foolish kitsune for causing the destruction of all of Kyoto and the end of the youkai race.'
With a noticeable growl, Ophis snarls at the nine-tailed vixen. "Insolent little fox! You dare deny my demands in favor of your ignorant pride?! I believe you've forgotten your place!"
The weight of Ophis' power crashed down on Yasaka's temple like a meteor. The roof tiles cracked and the table between them shattered like glass. All the guards and residents of her temple fell to the ground beneath them and Yasaka herself struggled to breathe as she was crushed to the floor. From the corner of her eye, she could see the looming form of Ophis ready to kill her in an instant.
'This is it! This is why I always feared this THING! We are all nothing in her eyes! Oh Kunou... please forgive your foolish mother...'
The nine-tailed fox closed her eyes in preparation of the killing blow... until a voice came to her rescue.
"Ophis, wait."
And like a light switch being turned off, so too did the heavy weight of Ophis' power. Coming to her senses, Yasaka looked to her savior in the form of the black haired boy that accompanied the terrifying creature before her.
He had grabbed her hand. Firmly, but gently. The naive boy actually grabbed the hand of this vile being. But for some reason, Ophis hadn't killed him.
The Dragon God merely looked at him in confusion. "Why?"
Mugetsu shook his head. "You shouldn't kill her because she simply denied your request. Well, demand."
Ophis still looked at him in confusion. "Why, Mugetsu?" She pauses for a moment. "She is far weaker than us. She should know her place."
There's something telling about Mugetsu when he doesn't even bother to address how wrong her views of power are. Must be due to dealing with characters like Aizen and Ywach for so long. He just shook his head in exasperated fondness. After being in her company for a few hours, he knew that Ophis wasn't like them. She had always been this powerful and all creatures knew to either fold to her whims or face extinction. If childish innocence met fathomless power, you get Ophis.
Mugetsu stood to his feet and looked down into Ophis' eyes with an unwavering gaze. "Ophis." He gently places his hands on the girl/god's shoulders. "We are intruders. We come into her home unannounced and begin making demands that would inconvenience her. In a way, her situation isn't much different from your own, right?" Ophis' eyes widen in surprise before she gives a stiff nod. "Then would you want to help someone who intrudes into your home?"
"No. I would kill them." The response made Yasaka shiver. She'd kill Ophis if she could, but then again, she doesn't know if anyone could kill Ophis.
Mugetsu just chuckles. "Of course. But if you couldn't kill them?"
"Then I'd make them leave with a broken body."
"And if you couldn't do that?"
"I'd make them leave."
Mugetsu nods with a small smile. That's the best he'd get for now. "So we should leave, right? Because you'd want them to leave in a situation like this, right?"
Ophis nods. Turning to Yasaka, she says, "I'll forget this incident today, fox. But you should remember your place in the future. Because Mugetsu won't always be able to stop me from eradicating you from existence."
The obvious threat aside, what did Yasaka just bear witness to?! This strange man just managed to reason with THE INFINITE DRAGON GOD?! He reasoned with a being BORN WITHOUT REASON?!
Not only that, he touched her! Several times! And Ophis didn't flinch! She didn't move away from him, she didn't kill him, she didn't even protest! It was like she was comfortable with his touch.
She watched as he exchanged words with Ophis with a fond smile on his face. In fact... upon inspecting him with her deep connection to life and nature energy, she could see something oddly familiar about his power...
Another one.
Another monster.
Another creature like Ophis.
No wait. Not like her. No, Ophis' power was a deep abyss. A dark void that knew no end. But his power was... the same yet different. If Ophis' power was an infinite abyss, Mugetsu's power was a cold darkness of unfathomable nothingness. It wasn't like death, not like Hades or Anubis, no... it felt like contradiction. Something like nothing yet nothing like anything. It flowed in chaotic order, writhed in an endless origin. Where the beginning ends, it meets a new genesis. His was not chaos, for chaos needed order. His was not death for death needed life. No. It was much deeper. He couldn't be Infinite, for even Infinity has an origin. His predated that.
It was as the two beings walked away that Yasaka had an epiphany. Ophis was the Infinite that was born from nothingness. And Mugetsu was the nothingness which birthed the Infinite Dream.
As they neared the door, Yasaka came to her senses. She had momentarily lost herself in the Infinite and the Nothingness. "Ah, wait..."
Simultaneously, the pair turned to her. Mugetsu's eyes were filled with curiosity and intrigue. But Yasaka noticed that Ophis' eyes carried a veiled threat, a promise to end her at a moment's notice. Gathering what courage she had left, Yasaka spoke again. "I... if you still wish... I'll teach Mugestu-kun what you asked of me."
At those words, Mugetsu's eyes widened in pleasant surprise while Ophis narrowed her in annoyance and mistrust. The fox vermin had already served to annoy her. And now the mangy filth had the nerve to change her mind when her intentions already conveyed her desire to get something from them in return.
Truly, these lesser beings annoyed her to no end.

A/N: So yeah, a new story that isn't Naruto. Work is kicking my ass so I haven't found time to write. I will say, my writing style has changed a lot, almost completely. Ichigo/Mugetsu will be OP, not godlike since even gods can be weak in the DxD universe. Of course, he won't be one shotting Great Red since even that is a bit much for me.
Also, Ophis is obviously OOC since her niche of the OP loli in the canon series severely underplayed her character. Great Red is also OOC since I don't really like the whole 'Delinquent Dragon God' characterization for such an important character.
And the biggest shocker... Mugetsu won't have a harem. Yup. I know, OP/Harem was kind of my thing but I like the purity of Infinite x Nothingness.
I got a few ideas of where I want this story to go. It won't be canon with the addition of Ichigo since I basically balled canon up and threw it out the window since *spoiler alert* Ophis hasn't founded Khaos Brigade.
Read and review.
Story will remain T unless I decide to get explicit. Probably won't even bother writing lemons tbh. Y'all got your right hands for that.
Till next time.
