"Talking"
Thoughts
Ch. 2
The city was in utter chaos as panicked screams and sirens could be heard echoing across the night air.
So much devastation due to an unprecedented situation. So many people in trouble and not enough hands to go around. The Gardenia knights could not contain the situation as everything was descending into hysteria.
"Damn it!" cursed Seith. "First whatever that was and now this! If we don't get this under control the entire city is going to get ripped apart!"
"Is there no one else to send!" as Dillon was at the breaking point. Everyone who could help were busy all over the city.
As the situation was about to tip over, there was still one hand left to play. Contrary to what was happening, Freya was absolutely calm. Although her body mimicked organic anatomy and physiology, she was still a machine underneath. She understood what organics around her were feeling as her body was simulating them at this moment. However her mechanical side would not be distracted by something as minor as that.
Thus she did the one thing her very existence was born to do and that was to sing. During the course of her evolution, she had studied in depth the large volume of Terran knowledge. With her studies, she had crafted her body taking in characteristics from several races in her design. As a result, she was able to produce sound in varying frequency, wavelength, and amplitude. Understanding how organic brains worked, she was able to simulate sounds for people to feel a certain way by adjusting the sonic vibration of her voice.
Of course the Dominion was very clear on how she used this knowledge and what limits to put on it as not to create drug like effects. But the moment was dire and she needed to bend a rule for the good of the Dominion. Thus she sang expanding the power of her voice for all to hear.
Slowly but surely, the feeling of fear, panic, and doubt was starting to subside as everyone was able to think more clearly.
Emergency services would not be able to get to everyone in time. In this crisis, they needed to lean on each other for the good of everyone.
Stores and warehouses set up logistic lines to feed supplies that were needed in relation to medical or food.
Any able hands with a strong arm, tools, or could operate heavy equipment assisted folks who were trapped and needed to be rescued.
Civilians set up secure zones to provide basic medical needs or food to help keep others calm and/or energized to continue with the aid.
Thankfully by the time morning came around, the situation was stabilizing.
~ Unknown world ~ (three days later)
Bozes could feel her head pounding as she hadn't had much sleep. As leader of this colony, it was her responsibility to insure the safety and security of those who live here. "You'd think things would be easier with age" she sighed. Although she physically looked in her mid twenties, she was around her late sixties. She then sighed again as she wanted to soak in one nice long hot bath.
Her staff has been running around this entire time to maintain some sense of order in this unprecedented event.
With the fires put out and everyone's stomachs being full, they now had some breathing room to figure out what to do next as Bozes still had work to do.
Gathered in a meeting room, all important members of Idunn's administration and others who could help were present to discuss the future.
First order of business was stabilizing the lives of the citizens as well as compensating store owners and warehouses for their contribution during the incident.
"How are supplies looking?" Bozes asked.
"Stable . . . . For now at least" answered Diabo. Although a former prince of Sadera, he now made a living negotiating trade deals on a global scale. "Thankfully the goods that were dropped off fully restocked our warehouses. However based on my estimates we will deplete our resources within a month if we don't find a new supply line".
"Furthermore" another admin continued, "the incident had knocked out power in several sectors as well as damaged a few utility lines. It will take quite a few days to get one sector fully repaired".
"Alright" as Bozes nodded her head. "For the time being we will need to ration our resources. Establish the necessary protocols. Nydock" as she looked to the Zerg in the room. Zagara had created different Zerg to better socialize with other lifeforms. Although humanoid like, they still had very Zerg like qualities with bug and reptilian characteristics. "May we request that the Zerg set up more biotech trees to help house those that were displaced?"
"Very well" Nydock answered indifferently. "We will set up as much as time allows".
"Thank you" as she turned back to everyone, "furthermore request if anyone can generously invite anyone in to their homes. It may not be comfortable but at least no one will starve or freeze at night". With the initial issues bandaged for now, they needed to address the bigger concern. "So are you certain about this? Are we no longer in our home universe?"
It was quite a big leap for quite a few of them. Especially for the Falmartians. Although several decades had passed, they had barely managed to wrap their heads around the vastness of the near infinite universe they lived in. But even beyond that with the Alnus gates potential in reaching other universes beyond their own.
"I'm afraid so" answered Karax. "In a rather blunt way to put it, we're lost" as that statement left a heaviness on everyone in the room. "This is confirmed by the cosmic background radiation. It's signature is much different from our own. Although quite paltry in itself, we're not even in our original location" as the Protoss phasesmith brought up a holographic map. "The star orientations are all wrong as we are in an unknown location in the galaxy". Recalling the projection, "but on the bright side I suppose, this wasn't the fault of the experiment".
"What do you mean?"
"Before the start up, we've been detecting an unusual interference we couldn't identify. But upon arriving here it seems to be all around us. We are still not certain what it is. However there is strong evidence that this interference is the cause for our current predicament".
"So something on this world pulled us here?"
"Indeed. But what, how, or even why is yet to be determined".
Rolling her eyes, "well at least this news will ease the peoples resentment" as Bozes tried to look at this as a glass half full.
"Myself and the other phasesmiths are not certain how effective this will be, but we will set up a beacon that will send out our signal throughout sub-space. Hopefully if our home universe is looking they might be able to detect it. But for the time being, it's best we get to work in trying to find our own way back".
"Anything you need" said Bozes. "At the very least being able to open up a communication line will be one of our highest priority. But for the time being we will need to build up our own infrastructure. We must be prepared for the possibility of being stuck here for the long haul. So we will need factory's and work lines producing things as we need them as we coordinate with adjutants. But also for that we will also need raw materials. What do we know about this world?"
"Satellites are still being prepped. We will be sending them into orbit in a few days".
"From our scout drones, we've determined a large land mass west to us. It's a good place to start as any".
"We are already recruiting workers for mining the moment a site is found".
"How many people can be sent off for reconnaissance?"
" . . . . One platoon" answered Panache.
"One platoon? That's far too reckless to send as we have no idea what's out there let alone without any type of support if trouble were to happen".
"It's can't be helped" Panache tiredly sighed. "I need all available hands here to maintain order as everyone's tensions are high after what happened. If anything, one platoon is being generous as we're still short handed in securing the area".
"OK fine" as Bozes waved her hand stopping Panache from saying anything further as she'll take what she can get. "When is the soonest they can be deployed?"
"Tomorrow. Equipment and ships are being prepped for their mission. If there are other intelligent life out there, hopefully they are friendly".
~ Unknown world ~
Three modified Hercules class transports were up in the air venturing westward. Each ship had thirty soldiers on board along with a survey team. They were well armed to handle a wide variety of situations. However their mission was strictly reconnaissance as the personnel assembled were for self-defense purposes as survey teams with them did their jobs.
They had no idea if there was any intelligent life on this world and if there were, what their tech level would be. But regardless, if there was any they didn't want to spook anyone.
Thus the ships were modified with cloaking generators and several sensors to see what was happening on the ground.
The moment they reached the new landmass, "positive identification. Definitely a civilization down there . . . . Huh, humanoid".
"Spread out and give a scan. Let's see what we're dealing with".
"They are clearly an agrarian society from first impressions. Wait . . . . are those wyverns?" as cameras focused on what looked like an airfield as they saw evidence of the lizards being used as flying mounts. "Well certainly something to note before making first contact".
Certain regulations were ironclad in relation to first contact. But generally speaking as agreed upon by space faring civilizations, it was pretty much hands off until said civilizations had achieved a certain level of technological understanding. However scenarios have been addressed just in case of situations similar to the one they found themselves in.
Generally no contact was highly recommended as they would bunker in and wait for rescue.
But in the case it couldn't be helped then diplomacy came next as any type of aggressive military action was to be treated as a last resort.
On one of the ships, Jin was onboard as he was the commander in charge. Everything should be straightforward without any trouble based of what they've seen so far.
Ideally the next step would be to have boots on the ground with ghost agents to get a better idea of the local traditions and customs as not to do or say anything that might cause an issue. However they decided to continue their survey to further map out the area around them to have an idea where some good mining sites could be found.
Continuing west, they soon discovered a city as it was under attack or rather the battle was already over.
The city had already fallen as soldiers were rounding up civilians, destroying buildings, or indulging in whatever depravity they could think of.
Seeing this on the camera feed, Jin closed his eyes focusing his psi abilities to get a better understanding on what was going on down there. Sweeping over hundreds of minds, he got his answer as he couldn't help but scowl.
The invaders were from a place called the Louria kingdom. They attacked their neighbor the Qua-Toyne principality which was a conglomeration of humans and demi-humans who lived in peace. Of course there could be other reasons for the attack, but their main aim was to exterminate demi-humans in an effort to establish human supremacy on the continent. Just for this reason they were committing mass genocide.
"Primitive and barbaric . . . ." Jin muttered under his breath. Senseless death and violence for something so foolish.
Ava, Takeshi, Fumi, Ash, and others among his group who possessed psi abilities felt it too. They all felt their blood boiling and skin crawling at what was going on below them. It wasn't right no matter how you twist or turned it. But the question now was what they were going to do about it?
As ruled by the Dominion, they were not to interfere as part of the rules of first contact. This matter was a terrestrial issue in which involvement could cause serious unforeseen repercussions. The Protoss had first hand experience in matters like this as they had unfortunately decimated an entire civilization in an attempt to stop their fighting. Thus to avoid such situations, several restrictions were put into place as rules were heavily enforced.
With a heavy heart, they had to stand aside and let this happen.
But for the young dark elf, the blood of his father and grandfather flowed through his veins. He could not allow such horrific things to happen when he had the power to stop it. For whatever may happen in the future, he must also bare the responsibility for it. Without a second thought, he went over to the door pressing the emergency release button as the hatch soon opened stunning everyone inside.
The pilot seeing the notification looked over to his camera feed to see what was happening on his ship. Activating the intercom, "sergeant! What are you doing?!"
Jin gave a half hearted shrug, "self-defense. I'm pretty sure that turbulence I felt was them attacking us" as he was walking backwards towards the exit.
"Don't do this sergeant! We are not to interfere! Do not jump out this ship!"
"Sorry I can't hear you, I just left" as he then jumped out.
"Damn it sergeant!"
Now making their own excuses, "he's right" said Takeshi. "They did attack us".
"Well better to go after the commander" said Fumi.
"Wait for me big brother!" said Ash.
"So we're fighting then?" asked Rhea.
"Hey! Give me the biggest gun we got!" Ava demanded.
"Oh damn it!" the pilot cursed. "Looks like we're doing this!" Reaching for his radio, "all units be advised! We are now entering a combat situation!"
~ Gim ~
Moizi was devastated. He was the knight commander in charge of protecting the western front. But now he was powerless. Louria's invading army was easily double the size of his defending forces.
Though they fought bravely, defeat was inevitable.
Once his army was destroyed, it would not end so easily with death.
The enemy army was now picking apart the city like vultures ripping meat off the bones of recently killed prey.
Food, supplies, and anything of value was being stolen.
Men who served no purpose were to be executed or kept alive for sadistic torture.
The screams of women could heard as Louria's soldiers were doing unspeakable things to them.
Yet as this happened, there was nothing he could do as he was bound and chained and forced to watch this happen to humiliate him further with his inability to protect Gim. However his torment was only starting as they had captured his wife and daughter.
Enjoying his handiwork, Adem the enemy general sneered as he wanted to make the pain last as long as possible. He had no intention of sparing anyone. But what would make their despair even more exquisite was to let them hope that their was a chance at survival. "Well . . . . What should we do . . . ." as he eyed Moizi's daughter. "That's right. How about if the madam can die without letting out a sound then I will spare your daughter".
"Don't do it!" Moizi screamed out desperately. "This bastard will not keep his promise!"
But regardless, she didn't have a choice. She wanted to do whatever she could if it meant at least saving their daughter. She was then stripped naked before her husband as the enemy soldiers were allowed to do whatever they wanted to her as they forced her husband to watch.
Adem's sneer only widened as this was hardly a challenge. She was no warrior as her mind was not battle hardened to resist pain. Once they were done with her they would then force Moizi to watch what they were going to do to his daughter before killing him. "All too easy" feeling pride at what he's done.
Before they could fully enjoy themselves, the soldiers around Moizi's wife suddenly collapsed as an unknown figure had appeared.
Jin had arrived as he blinked safely to the ground after jumping off the ship. Like his father, he had been taught in the ways of the dark templar.
His eyebrow peaking up in curiosity, Adem looked the person over as he was clearly a dark elf. Were there dark elves in Qua-Toyne? Shaking his head, "doesn't matter. He'll die like the rest" as he was certain of the outcome. The city already belonged to them. What can one measly elf do to change that? Being as grandiose as possible, "it seems we have more guests! Oh where are my manners for not giving you a better welcome" as several soldiers assembled before the mysterious elf.
Jin then drew his sword.
"Ohh scary" Adem shivered mockingly. "Show him what happens to those who want to play hero".
Just as Louria's soldiers roared out in response, their opponent disappeared into black shadowy mist as they soon too were covered in it. Within that split moment, the young dark elf appeared in front of Adem as all his soldiers fell to the ground having been decapitated.
Stunned at the sudden turn of the situation, Adem fell back onto his butt. But not wanting to look weak quickly got back up as he took several steps away to get some distance between them. "What do you think you're doing?! Do you think you've changed anything?!" as he was shaken about what just happened. "Nothing you do will matter! Louria will crush your filthy race and claim this continent as our right!"
Jin was a little surprised that he understood what the sadistic man was saying without using telepathy. But pushing the thought aside, ". . . . really?" he replied flatly. "Hold onto that thought for a moment".
Right before his eyes, Adem's mouth could only hang open at what happened next.
Dominion technology had made quite a few advancements in the following years. Although they lived in a time of relative peace it did not mean they should be complacent.
Their first act was taking back control of the skies. Although they were confident their firearms were more then a match for the wyverns, it was best to take necessary precautions. The Hercules class transports had been upgraded with several gun turrets as assault drones were deployed to join the fight. Though strictly speaking they were designed for defensive firing so that pilots could travel and offload passengers as safely as possible. But against men with thin armored plating over cloth riding flying lizards, it was sufficient. With the tough hull armor designed for space travel, these wyvern riders were no threat to them as they swatted them out of the sky.
Louria's soldiers couldn't believe their eyes as they could only describe them as metal dragons as they spewed lightening in all directions. Reacting to the new threat, they needed to get back into the city to help secure it.
Anticipating this reaction, the reconnaissance platoon needed to divide their forces that would make the best use of their numbers and current equipment.
In the case of crowd controlling Gim's outskirts, only a small specialized group was needed. Among them was Ava as she had arrived armed with an anti-ship auto-cannon that could slice through most armored units like a hot knife through butter. Normally it would require a power armor to use this weapon let alone pick it up. But for all reconnaissance ground forces, they were equipped with skin suits with over layed armor in relation to their combat role. For demi-humans, it only enhanced their natural abilities making them even stronger.
Bracing her feet for the recoil, Ava pulled the trigger as a stream of bullets tore through hundreds if not thousands of enemies in an instant. Designed to punch through heavy armor, the scene was gruesome as body parts were flying in the air as blood rained all around them. With several wyverns still on the ground, they were removed from play easing up the battle in the air.
Terrified was barely the right word to describe what Louria's soldiers were feeling. Since when did these filthy demi-humans possess such horrifically powerful magic that could fire lightening in every direction? Did they unknowingly anger a sleeping monster?! At such thoughts, anyone who could grab a horse or had working legs retreated immediately.
With the barrels super heated as the ends were red hot, Ava dropped her weapon as she was out of ammo. Drawing out two kukuri blades, "fan out. Clean up anyone who still wants to stick around".
"No mercy . . . ." Rhea said plainly as she readied her kanabo.
Meanwhile back in the city as the Dominion were engaged on multiple fronts against Louria's forces, multiple automatons were deployed to help supplement their numbers as panzer series predator drones helped trim out their numbers. But unfortunately civilians were getting caught in the cross hairs.
"The adjutant can't control so many drones like this" said Fumi. The computer was piloting based on predetermined subroutines. But with limited processing power there were slight command delays in how the automatons moved. "I'll take a few off it's hands" as she took command of the ground drones. Holographic windows emerged as she coordinated the predators movements. Adjutants artificial intelligence were well programmed. But they lacked intuition and instinct to make judgment calls on the fly in the heat of the moment. Freeing up control, the assault drones in the air were moving more fluidly under the adjutants control.
"If you were going to do that you might as well have stayed on the ship" said Takeshi. "What's a combat mechanic supposed to do down here anyways?"
"Rich coming from you" Fumi shot back as her brother was in the middle of patching people up. Although he may come off as a knuckle head, he was a good medic. "Who's going to watch your back with all this going on".
"Hey! I like to fight when I can! But I still have a job to do!"
As the siblings were bickering, a Louria soldier jumped in to attack. But as he charged forward, the top of his head was blown away killing his momentum landing him on the ground.
"Stay focused" said Ash sternly over the comms as she was on the tallest building still sniping at anyone who was an enemy. "I can't cover everyone".
"Right" the siblings answered at the same time as they felt a chill.
Anyone who personally knew her were aware of Ash's duality. Any other time, she was adorable as she gave off a warm and bubbly feeling. But put her on a battlefield with a rifle in her hand, she might be the most cut throat person there. Guess that's what happens when you're personally trained by Tyuule.
With the battle shifting in favor of the Dominion, any defending soldiers still alive and able to fight picked up a weapon as they pushed the invaders out. Moizi being one among them after securing his wife and daughter as he rallied his forces for a counter attack.
Seeing the rapidly changing tide, Louria's forces ended up making a full panicked retreat. Overcome with fear, their only thought was escaping in whatever direction looked safest. Even as commanding officers were screaming trying to issue out orders no one was listening as the terrifying magic of the metal dragons, demonic steel cats, and powerful lightening wands was too much for them to bare. Several men were even trampled to death by those trying to escape.
"What's going on?! What's happening?!" Adem shrieked. Were they not the winners?! Was Gim not firmly under their boot?! How did these filthy demi-humans force them to retreat?! "Come back here! Fight! Where are you going?!" as his men were running as he was soon going to be one of the last one's left.
". . . . As I said, you were saying?" Jin asked.
Shivering as he tried to retreat, Adem couldn't understand. But seeing some of their weapons, they looked like the magic tools used by Parpaldia called firearms. However they were nowhere near this powerful by comparison. So how did these demi-humans get their hands on them? Was Qua-Toyne more advanced then what they let on? As his mind was racing with questions and conjectures, his eyes snapped back to the dark elf still standing in front of him.
Cold sweat was running down his entire body as his legs felt weak. They weren't going to let him flee considering what he and his men did to the civilians. War crimes were unforgivable no matter where you were as at best he would be imprisoned for life or quickly executed. And at worse, slowly tortured only keeping him alive to make the pain last for longer.
Running through his options, ". . . . P . . . . Perhaps we can come to an arrangement" Adem heavily stuttered. He was more then happy to sell out Louria if it meant he got to live.
"I'm afraid that's not possible" Jin answered. "First, we don't make deals with criminals like you. And second, you're already dead".
". . . . What?" Before he knew it pain and suffocation had assaulted his senses as he reached for his neck as he was bleeding profusely before falling onto his back.
For Jin had slit his throat just enough for him to die a slow and agonizing death as he would be drowning in his own blood. He wasn't sure how his father or even grandfather would have dealt with a situation like this. But this was his justice as evil like this should never be tolerated. Though he wasn't a sadist, the way he saw it, he was just balancing the scales. Watching him gasping for air in his last moments, the horrid general had died.
Soon the surroundings were roaring in cheers as Gim's soldiers celebrated at their victory. Though it came at a heavy cost and a random hand of fate, it was better then the alternative as they now needed to tend to their wounded and traumatized.
As this happened, Jin could only sigh. Before Adem died, he telepathically tore anything of value from his mind. From what he learned, ". . . . Looks like our situation just got a lot more complicated".
To be continued . . . .
Author's notes: Still in the pilot phase trying to gauge interest in the story. But frankly speaking if nothing new comes out in regards to Annonrial or Ravernal then I already have an ending lined up to how this story is going to be concluded. Now onto some commentary.
For Freya, she designed herself to have the vocal cords similar to a siren like Myuute. Although she has a biological body, her main form is still the nano-machines that make it up. Technically she doesn't really need to do normal biological things like eat, sleep, or even breath. They are just simulations of her machine side to better fit in with everybody else. Furthermore I haven't quite decided what her apostle weapon should be. Originally I kind of thought it would be a violin with a fiddle that doubled as two bladed objects. But now I'm leaning towards a microphone stand as her voice is her primary weapon as she's able to create lethal vibrations with it. But still toying with the thought.
If anyone wants to know what Jin looks like then just imagine Hayama from Shokugeki no Soma but with pointy ears.
I still have more characters to introduce as well as their interpersonal relationships. But I'm trying to take it slow here as there was a lot of things that happened in the fifty year time span since they were a medival kingdom on Falmart to where they are now. So I'll try to paint it out bit by bit while trying to avoid this from becoming a biography.
For first contact cases, it makes me curious how space faring civilizations would had reacted if they saw horrible things like that happening. For example, if the Federation from Star Trek saw this happen would they obey the prime directive and ignore it letting it happen or would a do-gooder captain do something about it as they couldn't stomach walking away. But for the Protoss, that's actually what happened in canon and it's the story about why the colossi were originally decommissioned. They were observing the Kalathi who existed outside the Koprulu sector. However they were engaged in a civil war. The observing Protoss wanted to stop this senseless killing by scaring them with their advanced technology. However it ended up backfiring as the Kalathi saw the Protoss as a common enemy and attacked them forcing the Protoss to defend themselves resulting in the destruction of the Kalathi civilization blasting them back to the stone age. This horrified the Protoss as they adopted a non-interference rule in terrestrial matters in relation to the Dae'Uhl. Thus I imagine the Dominion would follow similar rules if they learned anything from the Protoss's experience.
As for Gim, I couldn't stomach what happened. Especially to Moizi's kid. Thus I had the Dominion step in and do something about it. But from my reading, I'm not entirely sure how the geo-political situation works on Elysia. I know all the super powers uses gun boat policy since polite diplomacy is generally not used as they live in a world where might equals right. If anything the gods made a huge mess in summoning all these civilizations as they are all too busy fighting each other rather then focusing on who the real enemy is. Thus the Dominion has to be the new sheriff in town to get everyone to play nice with each other.
For weapons technology, I don't see the Dominion moving away from kinetic weaponry. They have been experimenting with energy weapons as they've been making progress in canon. But as the saying goes, why fix what ain't broke? As for why the current characters are using bladed weapons, as I noted they are mostly from Falmart. Thus it's part of their culture but of course with a modern update.
I also know Adem was supposed to play a future role in the canon story line. But I didn't care to keep him around. With Jin probing Adem's mind, this will jump over a lot of things that I'd rather avoid needing to over explain. Thus when he reports back, the Dominion will be fully aware of the situation on Elysia.
If there are any questions or concerns feel free to ask as I'll try to answer them.
So thank you for reading as I further extend my gratitude if you can review as well.
