I don't own Naruto or Yosuga no Sora.
A child sat on a hospital bed occupying himself as he hummed. The window was wide open shining sunlight Illuminating the hospital room. Medical equipment was lined just like any other one, the walls were white just like any other hospital room…
Bloodshot eyes from a lack of sleep, fuzzy long blonde hair, a hospital gown and a green necklace dangling on his neck. Bandages also wrapped around his head tightly.
Blue eyes peered at the paper sketch in longing. The dull ache radiating through his chest got even worse as he gazed upon it longer. He knew he shouldn't but the pain made him feel alive.
Surrounding him were many others just like it as well. Some depicted them at home, others showed them at a party. Another showed them all holding hands together.
Sniffing the boy moved the paper to the side as he began drawing another. Slowly the picture came to fruition as the child poured himself into it.
After drawing four stones the child looked up hearing someone come inside. He observed the nurse that came in who was taking care of him. She had a typical nurse scrub on and had her black hair in one braid. She wasn't very tall and she was a bit plump but he didn't mind.
All he knew was that she was the nice lady that brought him things to draw with. That's why he paid attention to her unlike when he ignored most others who tried talking with him.
He knew what they really wanted so it was easy to ignore them.
He dropped his gaze a bit seeing the little girl whose arms and head were covered in bandages looking down with her hair shadowing her eyes.
She was even more skinny than him. Almost like she hadn't eaten in a long time. She was a bit like a doll really. With her pale skin and vibrant silver hair running down her back. He couldn't see her eye color from here but he did notice her legs seemed to be shaking slightly.
She was also holding a black rabbit doll only furthering the delicate look.
He watched as the woman slowly ushered the little girl to the bed across from him. He tilted his head watching as she lifted her in before patting her head whispering to her.
He looked down feeling like he was doing something wrong as he tried sketching again. That and he had caught a look in the girl's eyes and it just reminded him of bad things. Things he had tried not thinking about.
However his eyes glanced up hearing the footsteps near his bed.
The boy heard the chair near him being pulled out as the nurse sat in it with a sigh.
He squinted shyly, feeling the woman pat his leg.
"Naruto kun? How are you feeling? Do you need anything?" The gentle voice came as the boy shook his head slowly.
The woman accustomed to him being silent most times smiled as she leaned forward looking at the drawings.
"Ohhh? These are new Naruto kun. Was this at your sister's birthday party? Did you enjoy it?" He turned his eyes to it, nodding, feeling his eyes cloud over. The woman caught it as she grimaced looking back over to the paper.
"Chocolate cake? Did it taste good? I could go for some right now!" She exclaimed exaggeratedly as the boy's eye crinkled a bit happy as he nodded.
It did taste good actually. Or maybe he just liked chocolate?
The woman who caught it smiled as she began leaning back before catching the picture he was drawing. Looking at it confused she tilted her head before she became still figuring out what it represented.
Her face became indecisive as if not knowing what to do before she sighed.
The boy lowered his head hearing his name being called. It was easy to hear the scolding in her tone.
"Naruto kun? What did I say? You have to focus on happy thoughts okay?" She told him as she had precious little else to help him with.
Looking at him with his head down she felt a bit guilty. Deciding not to speak on it anymore knowing the little boy was hurting she changed the subject.
"I'm sure you see you have a new roommate now?" She saw him look up uncertainly as he nodded slowly glancing over to the girl who was laying down holding her doll up looking at it.
She looked really sad and that was only making him sadder.
"I can't tell you much about what happened and why she is here but…she's a bit similar to you. A lot actually." She saw the little boy look up with wide eyes. She felt deep sympathy at both the children's losses. She could not imagine losing her entire family in a blink of an eye.
It was a nightmarish scenario that she had no wish to dwell on.
"I know this is much to ask but I want you to keep an eye on her okay? Her new guardian is going to take some time to get here so she'll be alone. Maybe you can help each other?" She looked over to the girl sighing in sadness.
Looking back to the boy who was looking at the girl she smiled a bit hoping the interest would lead to some kind of friendship.
"I know you've been feeling lonely up here by yourself so I'm sure some company will help you. I'll check in like normal so don't be afraid to make a new friend." She got up stretching a bit as she patted his head, ruffling the soft blonde hair.
"I'll see you both later and hopefully you'll be a bit better by then hopefully." The door closed behind her as she left. Not before casting a one long glance back at them making sure nothing was wrong.
The boy now named Naruto glanced down at his sheet of paper as he began sketching again. He tried his best he truly did but he could hardly focus as he kept glancing back and forth from the girl.
She was similar to him huh? What could that mean? He knew there was an obvious reason but there was also a not so obvious one that gave him anxiety.
No one could know what he tried, did they?
Feeling a bit jittery he thought on what to do before he spotted the stack of papers. Hesitating for a second he decided it wouldn't hurt to do something nice for someone who was clearly hurting like him.
If it was anything like what he felt he knew it was agony. Maybe helping her would help him?
So the blonde haired little boy took a random sheet of paper remembering how his mother had taught him. It was a surprise his mom knew how to do this but apparently her family…well his family on her side were very traditional.
He used to call all these little things dumb but now he only felt the constant ache at not asking her to talk more about them. About anything really.
Just to hear her voice again.
'...' the boy felt his hand tremble before he steeled himself. He could do this and he knew his parents would want him to do this!
That's why the boy's hands easily manipulated the paper without any trouble. Folding, morphing, forming away as he worked on auto pilot.

Sora Kasugano slowly dropped her hands as she glanced forwards feeling her wrist hurt. She watched as the blonde slowly folded the paper into some kind of shape. Losing interest she glanced to the corners of the room observing the medical equipment.
She looked at the open window with the breeze flowing wildly feeling her legs twitch with an urge. Squeezing her doll to her chest the 12 year old didn't feel any of the previous comfort it used to give.
All she felt was the towering abyss closing in on her. She wanted to vomit but couldn't anymore, her stomach hurt for food yet she didn't want to eat. Her mind was a bit dizzy due to the pain and the smell of antiseptic was invading her nose
Closing her eyes hoping it was all a bad dream the girl snuggled under the blankets feeling exposed. Even with something covering every single part of her body she couldn't help but feel scared.
She couldn't remember the last time she was ever alone in her life and the realization caused her hearts to beat faster.
The girl's ears perked up hearing a soft tap of feet. Glancing quickly she saw the blonde boys bare feet on the ground before he slipped on fuzzy slippers. Closing her eyes thinking he was going somewhere out of the room she listened to the near silent tap of feet.
Her eyebrows furrowed hearing them get closer and closer to her position before she flinched feeling him reach her side.
Not wanting to open her eyes she felt something drop into her hands lightly. Instinctively she grasped it, recognizing it as paper before the footsteps walked away. Becoming fainter and fainter before she heard the creek of a bed as if someone was laying in it.
The silver haired girl felt her heart beating a little faster from the adrenaline. She peeked her eyes open deliberately not glancing to the next bed feeling anxious. She blinked seeing the origami fox in her hands.
'Moe…' she looked at it in a daze wondering how you could make something so quickly.
She glanced upwards hesitantly but she calmed down with a sigh in relief seeing him not pay attention to her. She saw him sketching something out and tried to say thank you but it didn't come out.
In fact she felt like she couldn't talk at all. The act of kindness only reminded her of her family and she felt her throat clog in grief. Squeezing unintentionally she nearly gasped.
'No…' the girl opened her hands seeing the crushed paper fox. Feeling her eyes tear up even more she glanced up seeing the boy looking at her hands before looking down again at his paper.
Sadly.
'...' the girl placed her head onto her pillow feeling too awful to think anymore. And that was saying something because she didn't think it could get any worse.

3 days later Naruto observed the girl again noticing more things about her. She was very quiet. Far more than him. He hadn't heard a peep from her the entire time she was here and it was impressive in a sad way.
She didn't seem to be able to sleep properly. He was woken up by her own nightmares a lot of times with her sweating and shaking. Though he said nothing knowing how embarrassing it was to be discovered. He had a couple himself though they had stopped.
She didn't seem to want to eat either which caused him to furrow his brow in concern. Everyday she got skinnier and skinnier and he was a bit panicked to see someone dying before him basically.
He watched as the nurse sighed, placing her food down on the counter as she left. He couldn't help but wonder why couldn't they just force her to eat? Wasn't it better than her dying?
Naruto watched the girl lay down in the bed, closing her eyes. He knew how bad hunger felt for the first time since the accident and he knew she was faking that composed look. Looking down he glanced at his own tray of food.
He hadn't touched it as of yet so…
Unfortunately he wasn't allowed any ramen for some crazy reason but he didn't mind.
He glanced at her bed seeing the other three origami. A crane, a flower and a duck. She hadn't smashed any this time. It had surprised him but he later realized she had made a simple mistake.
So thinking this he felt she would be receptive to his gesture. He wanted her to live, she would understand him right?
So wanting to get a new friend he took the first step forward. The little boy hopped off his bed as he took his tray forward. He saw her glance at him with her grey eyes before quickly looking back down.
Seeing no rejection the boy sped up his pace a bit.
Reaching her bed he glanced down seeing her move a bit to the side as he sat down with his tray. He looked at her before looking at his own tray before he scratched his head.
What would he do now exactly? Thinking about it he remembered his own mother when she tried to get him to eat something. Feeling a bit down as he remembered his family again he looked down to the soup and spoon.
(Break)
Sora gazed upwards as she saw the spoon zooming through the air. She watched with baffled eyes as it shakily zoomed throughout the air in zig zags. She looked at it a bit confused at what the heck was going on.
She blinked before looking at the source of the spoon plane.
The blonde haired boy was making deeply hesitant "brooom" sounds that sounded like they were causing him physical agony. Her eyes fixed themselves on his face as he faltered looking away with red cheeks putting down the spoon and his head.
His shoulders slumped.
….
"Pfft!" The girl giggled. She felt herself trembling as she let out the happy sound. She just couldn't stop herself, he looked so silly! Trying to hold in the mass of giggles she blinked before squeezing her doll embarrassed seeing him look at her with wide eyes.
The girl bit her lips feeling like she couldn't afford to be happy when her family died but…
"Gurgle!" She blushed to the roots of her hair, hearing her stomach bellow and rumble shaking the bed. The girl put her head down embarrassed as she tried covering it to no avail.
Looking up not hearing anything she saw the spoon right before her as she looked up into bright blue eyes. Dropping her eyes feeling like a child she looked hesitantly at the spoon. She didn't want to truly but she still felt guilty about the other day
So she opened her mouth slowly and chomped down.
The girl got up as she ate the food feeling warm as it went to her stomach. She glanced strangely at the boy as he glanced strangely at her.
He offered another spoon.
She accepted it.
He offered another.
And again she accepted.
The routine continued until they heard a near silent squeaking at the door. Both kids glanced at it confused seeing something flash by. Looking back at each other they forgot about it as they continued.
Soon enough the entire bowl was clean and the girl laid back content. She watched as the boy picked up the tissue before trying to hand it to her.
She looked at it for a second before looking back at him. The blonde faltered beneath the stare as he took a deep breath in before getting closer.
Sora felt her eyes flutter as she was cleaned. She looked at the blonde's eyes and wondered why they seemed so familiar. He pulled back soon enough, smiling at her with a full row of teeth.
The girl smiled back as best as she could.

Sora Kasugano was led gently to the next side of the room. The blonde who was a bit taller than her gripped her by the gown with 2 fingers as he brought her to his side of the room.
Sora looked around squeezing her doll as she observed this side much more clearly. She saw the many pictures hanging up on the wall and many were on the floor too. She blinked not knowing the hospital would allow it before she reached his bed.
The blonde sat down patting his side as she also sat too. She saw him digging around in his papers before he pulled out a picture. Caressing it a bit he glanced at the girl before handing it to her reluctantly.
She took it looking him in the eyes seeing the pain as she looked down at it. It was obviously a picture of his family and a recent one as well. Him, his mother, father, sister and…
Maybe his grandfather and grandmother? She wasn't very sure about it. They didn't look alike at all. Seeing the picture slip out of her hand she saw him taking it before giving her a hand drawn one.
She blinked confused, tilting her head as her hair got into her eyes. She saw him rummage around before bringing a black stencil and a blank piece of paper.
Her eyes widened when she finally got it. He wanted her to draw her family! But…
"Why?" Was the first thing she ever said to him as his own eyes widened before he thought about it a bit.
"You'll feel better. Like me." The boy nodded as he looked around at his own little art pieces before looking at the doll-like girl.
The girl tucked her legs under her and took the items from him. She wondered if he was also hurting like her. She could see something in his drawings that she couldn't understand. All she knew was her chest hurt even more seeing them.
Looking down at the paper she hesitated. She wasn't sure if doing this would be the greatest idea but with a glance at encouraging blue eyes she sighed before nodding slowly.
"I'll try…" She muttered looking at him. She didn't want to disappoint him.
(Break)
Sora laid under her blanket as she doodled another drawing. She had been doing it for a couple of days and had been drawn into it.
She knew she wasn't very good at it like the blonde haired boy but she felt it was okay. Not only that he never said anything bad about them either. He even put one by his walls!
The girl shifted the flash light as she finished the next one. She had just finished off Haru when she placed down the pen. She looked at the picture tilting her head feeling like it was missing something.
'...' The girl blinked when a flash of blonde hair appeared in her mind. Her eyes immediately darted to the paper when she realized what it was.
She felt a bit hesitant as she drew it but the more she did it the more it felt he should be right there. Her eyes gazed at the blonde weakly. They hadn't spoken much though that may have been more of her fault.
She never liked talking much at times and it was even worse now. The only people she ever spoke a lot to were her own family…
The girl gulped a bit feeling her throat close up at the thought as she tried to finish off the drawing. Sometimes she forgot they were gone. It was just so sudden it didn't seem real.
Her hand slowed as she laid on her side, drawing left unfinished. Turning off the tiny flashlight she tried to go to sleep ignoring the tears. She just didn't feel like doing anything anymore. It didn't help fill the pain she was feeling.
Just a useless distraction.
'I want to die.' The girl thought to herself, feeling completely hollow. Why didn't she die with them?
Why was she the only one who lived? Did she really need to suffer this?
(Break)
The boy noticed the shift immediately. He had been hyper aware of the girl ever since she responded to his advances. Where her face once showed curiosity and boredom, now only sadness and tiredness remained.
The boy who was looking forward to seeing another of the girl's drawings didn't know what to do. He looked at her face and decided perhaps he would give her some time to herself today.
So that's what he did. He simply sat and watched as she moved around only a bit, rejecting food again. The boy felt pressure descend on his shoulders. What would happen if he wasn't here to help her eat? Would she have died?
Laying down the boy decided to try get some sleep and hope it was better tomorrow. He knew he couldn't keep butting into others business for no reason.
No matter how much he wanted to.
(Break)
Naruto's eyes peeled open in the darkness. Feeling a bit dizzy he gained his footing as he was able pinpoint the girl who shifted off the bed and let her bare feet touch the ground.
He had been in this room for sometime and was very familiar with what happened in this room. So he was easily able to hear the tiny shifting.
The boy kept his eyes wide open knowing the girl wouldn't be able to see him in the darkness. However with a certain flash of moonlight he was able to get a glimpse of her face and her silver hair.
His body stiffened at the resolute look on her face. He remembered it very clearly after all wasn't that the same face she wore before…
He watched as if having an outer body experience as she slowly made her way to the door. He could only sit paralyzed as she pushed it open and let the light from the corridor shine in before shutting it behind her.
The door closed ominously as the boy looked up, gulping quickly as he caught his breath. He found his body control again as he realized he was sweating a lot. Wiping his forehead the boy shakily got to his feet in panic.
He ran after the girl quickly opening the with a shove. He looked up and down the corridors trying to figure out which way she went before deciding to take a left.
The boy looked up and down the hospital avoiding the nurses and other patients as he tried to find his friend. Leaning against the wall he looked around and panicked before he glimpsed the stairs.
'Oh no.' The boy sucked in a deep breath as he quickly marched up the stairs. His little skinny body wasn't very good at it but he found the strength somehow. Opening the door to the roof he looked before his breath nearly stopped seeing her glide along the edge.
His mind nearly failed him before he was finally able to get it out. "St-opp!" The boy's voice cracked awfully, getting the girl to flinch and look back with wide eyes.
The boy quickly ran forward pulling the girl back with his full strength as they both collapsed to the floor with a "Oof"
He took deep panicked breaths as he looked up at the night sky. After a couple seconds he looked over to the girl who also looked up with bland eyes.
"...why?" He tried to convey everything he felt with the word.
The girl simply curled up not saying anything for a while however he caught the faint trembles of her body.
He flinched hearing what she said.
"No one cares about me."
The boy felt his eyelid spasm as he looked at her. His heart was beating wildly as he shook his childishly causing his locks to whip him in the face.
The girl looked up hearing what he said.
"I care about you!"
Looking at her awkwardly, Naruto shuffled, placing his hand on her. He felt her flinch and stiffen. Nearly moving his hand he thought better of it as he circled her with his next. The boy squeezed the stiff girl in the hug feeling the trembling.
His eyes became a bit foggy when she started bawling her eyes out. The sound had pierced him directly and brought out his own hidden feelings.
Sniff.
The boy felt his own eyes water at the sound. For the first time since his own family death he felt tears run down his face. He looked down, feeling his vision blur not knowing what to do. His heart was hurting badly and he could feel it send pain everywhere.
He couldn't breathe.
Trying to find comfort the boy placed his cheek onto the girl's hair as he squeezed her. The two children both let out all the bottled feelings from the tragedy they lived through as they drew a modicum of comfort from the physical warmth of another.
Naruto tried wiping his blurry eyes. Removing his face from hers he looked down at her. He was about to tell her they needed to get back soon before anyone noticed but he saw she was asleep.
The boy hesitated before he decided not to disturb her. Using his scrawny little arms he picked her up feeling a bit stronger than before. As he walked back down the stairs he glanced at a dandelion in the flower pot in confusion.
He didn't remember it being so big.
(Break)
The boy who felt he gained the strength of 100 men slowly placed the little girl down. Looking at her sleeping face he reached over, wiping the tears gently with his thumb. Pulling up her sheet he felt the ache in his arms as he moved away.
Not before her own arm shot out gripping his sleeve. Naruto looked down at her as she looked up at him with vulnerable eyes.
"Stay?"
"Okay." The boy didn't hesitate as he shifted into the bed. Making himself comfortable he placed his hand onto his chest looking up.
The two kids stayed silent as they listened to the sounds of the medical equipment. It echoed through the room as they reflected on what happened.
Naruto turned his head to the side looking at the girl who was looking at him. They locked eyes for a second before the boy asked.
"What's your name anyway?" He thought it was a bit funny that he still didn't know.
"Sora…" She seemed to think so as well with the way her lips twitched. She pulled her doll as her eyes locked with him asking him to return the favor.
"Sora…" Naruto sounded it out, feeling it suited before he told her his own name. It was only right.
"Naruto."
"Narutomaki?" The girl tilted her head giggling quietly at his narrowed eyes. She quickly squealed when he immediately attacked her, tickling her as she kicked her feet happily. Lovely giggles filled the room as the girl quickly tapped out feeling tired.
Naruto dropped to the side with an exclamation as the girl smiled feeling a bit better.
Both kids calmed down as they took deep breaths. They both looked upwards feeling a lot less awful than before as they felt the warmth of another. No words needed to be said between them. Not many anyway.
They understood each other. Even if not totally, it was enough to know someone else was going through the same thing.
Naruto squeezed her hand that was now holding his as he looked to the side smiling a bit delirious. He hadn't been this happy in some time.
He saw her hesitantly smiling as well squeezing back a bit uncertain but no less strong.
The children slowly went to sleep. The best they'd had in a long time.

"Jiraiya san…" the woman sighed as she rested the phone down. The man was the guardian to the only Uzumaki heir and had been a bit lax in his duties.
Understandably considering what happened but he should at least check in on the child right? He needed support during these trying times.
She had just got back from calling Sora Kasugano's grandmother who was on her way here post haste and had called the man wanting to make sure her patients were okay.
The woman sighed, picking up her clipboard. Placing the required papers inside she set out to check up on the 2 children to make sure everything was okay physically.
Walking past her desk she opened the door before strolling down the corridor. She looked at all her coworkers bustling about as she greeted them appropriately.
Ascending the steps she entered the next walkway before locating room 44 immediately. Placing her hand on the knob she stopped for a second hearing very loud snoring. It nearly shook the entire room! Did one of them have a cold?
Now knowing they were asleep she gently turned it peeking inside the room before placing a hand on her mouth
"Oh my." The nurse's eyes widened minutely seeing the absolutely adorable scene. Sora was curled up holding her little doll as she laid onto her side snoozing with her thumb in her mouth. The culprit of the snoring Naruto was spread eagle with the little girl lying on his left arm snuggly.
The woman walked forward looking at the novel scene before her face melted into a small soft smile. How cute.
Leaning over she gently moved the girl's long hair out of the boy's face before she took the sheet placing it back on them.
Walking back out the door she glanced at the scene and decided that their checkup could wait a little while longer no?
