{The past}
Olympus, the home of the gods. It's beautiful, golden like spires along with its divine like beauty, amplify its already divine presence.
The place where the gods dwell. It is said that the seat of Zeus is so majestic that the mere sight of it could make mortals drop to the ground in awe. Now that may be a subjective view, and not actually real. But it is what the mortals believe, and so, it has got to be true, at least partially.
And, while far off course, it can be said that the mortals' words are true, for Zeus is king, the master of thunder, and the leader of the gods. His seat ought to be resplendent, for it signifies his place, and defines his authority within the heavenly realm that is Olympus.
Zeus currently is within a secluded room, where only he and 4 other gods are seen. Their forms the picture of perfection. Their clothes, beautifully crafted, clearly sown by the god of craft. Something that Zeus begrudgingly respects.
To the far left, near the front entrance to the royal like room, with its luxurious amenities, and fabulous ornaments. Stood Poseidon, his face scrunched into a grim frown. His arms lay crossed behind his back, posture straight and formal-like, obviously still trying not to be seen at his lowest.
Zeus could not blame him, for what lay Infront of them could only be of Poseidon's doing. Or he was at least informed. For how could a god of the sea not notice four gods, clearly just birthed out of the primordial ooze, that was the sea.
Little squeaks from the said godlings brought his attention back to what was Infront of him. Four little babies' lay laid out on sheets, their temporary rags, which were torn off and replaced by said newer, more appropriate clothes, laid off to the side, like the garbage that they were.
Hades, being his normal self, lay quietly off to the side, his slouched like posture indicating his annoyance at the situation. Eyes closed, in frustration at the impending headaches that were to come.
Walking towards the said children, and quietly pushing Aphrodite out of the way, much to her annoyance. Carefully so as not to slip, as he often does. These damn polished floors! He crouched, and with a scanning eye, he used an ability that he had not needed to use for a long while.
Define divinity.
As the name suggests, it allows the user to define another user's divine orientation. Or, in other words, their domains. Allowing them to physically and spiritually see their natural domains, and divine orientations.
Every god has the ability, some more potent than others, but every god was able to do so. It just so happened that Zeus never had the need to do so, as he saw no reason to spoil the surprise before it was known.
Looking at the child closest towards himself, the one that was previously dressed in the pinkish red rags, along with being the only female of the group.
He activated his ability.
Within moments, the world turned darkish grey, time seemed to slow, and the world seemed to stop. And Infront of him, lay the said child, her domains clear as day.
lust, greed, excess, pain, pleasure, perfection, and hedonism, flashed before his eyes, the complicated concepts, their presence great, drilled themselves into his mind, allowing him the understanding of their roles.
With an exhale, and a convoluted sigh, filled with a hidden sneer of contempt, he moved on to the next one.
The child's eyes were an emerald green, hair, white as snow, and skin so sickly that he thought the child would die with but a touch.
Repeating his earlier process, he activated his ability.
Like before, the child's domains flashed before him, their concepts drilling themselves into his mind, allowing him to understand their roles.
Stagnation, rebirth, disease, decay, death, despair, entropy, and destruction.
He laughed, a morbid and deep laugh. What powerful domains these children have. The others would surely feel threatened. He thought, amused.
The very concept of death alone is scary, but he felt bad for the child. For he, the brother of hades, knew full well that if hades so much as knew of this child's domains, he would ship him off to the underworld, with force if needed.
Of course he did not mind, he always enjoyed watching his brother fall victim to his weird little obsession with dominance. He laughed then, more of a chuckle really. Always so quick to judge, he scolded himself. It's not like he did not have his own weird obsessions.
Anyways, looking on to the next child, he felt a weird sense of DeJa'Vu, for the child Infront of him looked so much like his son, Ares. Except he has a tanner and a more chiseled-like baby body, along with scarlet red eyes, almost like the color of blood. Unlike Ares, who despite his various scars, still had a beauty about him that could not be denied. With his orange, almost flame like eyes, along with his medium length blonde like hair. Only just amplified his beauty.
He was intrigued. Activating his ability only made him frown, however. For the results would surely, most definitely, complicate things down the line. Especially with his son's pride, mixed along with his temper. Heavens, the showdown that he could foresee would surely be a showing, that was for sure.
war, hatred, rage, wrath, blood, martial honor, strength and murder. Were the domains shown, their presence a foreboding feeling for Zeus, as while he loved, or more specifically, was proud of his son, he knew his flaws. His downsides. And accepting another with his domain would not be accepted kindly by his prideful son.
The brawls between Athena and Ares were enough, how would Ares react to this... foreign child, if they were to meet? Not well he guessed.
He was interrupted from his rather informative trance like state, by Poseidon's voice.
"-ow could i have possibly known that these..." He looked away from whoever he was speaking to, to look at the children. "These children, were inside of Olympus? There are no bodies of water that i could have used, or for a matter of fact, they could have used to make it inside. So don't blame me for your faults." he practically grunted out.
"Then why are they wet?" Hades casually pointed to the children, and now that Zeus was actually paying attention, noticed that yes, they were indeed wet. Almost like they were dumped into a body of water.
"It would only make sense if you knew who brought them here, or if you, yourself brought them here." Hades continued, his voice its usual gravelly tone, mixed with its gruffness expected from the lord of the underworld. "After all you are the god of the sea"
"Just because of me being the god of the sea, does not mean that i could notice every single thing within its vast confines." Poseidon replied, arms crossing as he did so. "and plus, how could i have even known they were in the sea, i was asleep Remember, had to be woken up, by Zeus of all people."
Yelling at his brother to shut up and quickly Ignoring their foolish retorts, in his opinion at least, clearly not theirs, as they seemed to think quite highly of the words they spouted, like they were the curses, of curses. Foolish, he thought silently.
Shaking his head, he looked back to the children and was about to activate his ability on the last one when he noticed a note, resting unassumingly, near the old rags of the said children, he could've sworn it was not there before.
Picking it up and reading the words on the front of the envelope, he felt incredibly embarrassed. He, the king of Olympus, the god among gods, did not notice someone barging into is realm uninvited and dropping children within his borders.
{My gift to you, my dear Zeus}
Angerly, he ripped open the envelope and read its confines.
{these children are a gift from me, my dear. I would be eternally grateful if you were to take them into your care and raise them as your own. It is a great responsibility, i know, but it would make me so happy if you made them realize their true potential.
They are of course gods like yourselves, as you no doubt confirmed. With domains that, while strong, can be seen by some as evil and chaotic but that is not what really matters, all that matters to me is for you to take care of them, while i deal with some... Personal things.
Sincerely, a fellow god.
P.S: Sorry for the intrusion.}
This all but got rid of his suspicions of this being Poseidon's doing.
And while not new to a father-like role, Zeus was never that into it, for said role brought problems of its own. He was always a more, get what you want type. Never really being a reliable parent, or if he was, not a very good one. As Athena could attest.
'Always too strict' or 'always absent in some way' she would say. Often times yelled.
It was something he agreed with, and actually accepted as fact, but it seems, this other 'god' did not seem to think so.
Tch.
What a fool.
