Authors Note: The following is a brief timeline of the history for my AU Pokemon World. I'm definitely taking a lot of liberties here, but that's the point - it's fun!
Timeline of the Pokémon World 10,000 Years
Before Common Era (BCE)10,000 BCE The First Awakens
The Era of The First: A mysterious figure, known only as The First, forms the first true partnership between human and Pokémon. Mew, the Mythical Pokémon, joins him, and together they bring order to the chaos of warring tribes and roaming wild Pokémon. The First is remembered as the founder of civilization, uniting scattered tribes under shared rituals that celebrate the bonds between Pokémon and humans.
It is believed that The First could communicate telepathically with Mew, the first known application of Aura, bridging the gap between species and forging the first-ever true partnership.
9,500 BCE The Rise of the Primal Kingdoms
Primal Kingdoms Emerge: Powerful kingdoms arise, including the Kyogre Dominion in coastal regions and the Groudon Order in the mountains. These kingdoms are ruled by those who can command the titanic powers of Kyogre and Groudon, respectively.
The Kingdoms of Primal Power were perpetually in conflict, their rulers vying for dominance over land and sea until a truce brokered by Lugia brought temporary peace.
8,000 BCE The Time of Titans
The Regi Awakening: The Titan Era begins as Regigigas rises and moves the continents, reshaping the world. This epoch sees the birth of many myths as titans such as Regice, Regirock, and Registeel were created by the mysterious Regiment of Order to guard sacred sites across the continents, leading to an age of territorial defense and feuding city-states.
Many ancient temples built during this time still stand today, hidden deep within isolated regions, serving as a reminder of the primal bonds between the ancient peoples and titanic Pokémon.
7,200 BCE The Age of Guardians
Rise of Legendary Guardians: The birds Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres become symbols of warring factions in Kanto. Similarly, the Beasts of Johto (Entei, Raikou, and Suicune) are revered by rival factions in Johto. The Age of Guardians is marked by endless wars between these factions, who seek to control the Legendary Guardians.
It was only with the intervention of Ho-Oh and Lugia, acting as peacekeepers, that the warring factions were united into fragile alliances, leading to a period of relative calm.
5,500 BCE The Mystics and the Founding of Sinnoh
The Arrival of the Mystics: A group known as the Mystics of Sinnoh emerge, claiming the ability to commune with Dialga and Palkia. They establish a kingdom in what is now Sinnoh, using the power of space and time to defend their lands from invaders. The Spear Pillar is erected as a monument to their bond with the Legendary Pokémon.
The Mystics were the first to develop a formal calendar system, inspired by Dialga's supposed control over the passage of time.
4,000 BCE The Fiore Union
The Union of Fiore: The Rangers of Fiore form the first society dedicated to peaceful coexistence with Pokémon, rather than domination. They preach the value of empathy, creating a culture that values harmony over conquest. Their influence spreads, and Fiore becomes known as a haven of peace. An interesting side effect of this harmony, was the creation of the Aura Knights. The first organization that mastered Aura and could match Pokémon in battle.
Fiore's Rangers developed early methods of Pokémon assisting techniques, which would later evolve into modern Pokémon training practices.
3,200 BCE The Fall of the Primal Kingdoms
The End of the Kyogre and Groudon Era: The ancient Primal Kingdoms collapse due to internal strife and natural disasters caused by uncontrolled Kyogre and Groudon battles. Their once-glorious cities sink beneath the ocean or are buried under volcanic ash after Rayquaza pushed them deep into the depths of the earth and sea to hibernate for millenia.
Relics of the Kyogre Dominion are believed to be submerged in the ocean near modern-day Hoenn.
1,000 BCE The War of Shadows
Hoenn and Orre in Turmoil: The War of Shadows erupts as groups seeking power discover and harness Shadow Pokémon. The region of Orre becomes infamous for its unethical experiments and shadowy dealings, leading to a dark period of enslavement and Pokémon corruption.
This was the first recorded instance of Pokémon being turned into tools of pure malice, leading to wide-scale rebellion by ordinary people seeking to restore balance.
0 BCE Arrival of Deoxys and the Time Rift
The Arrival of Deoxys: A mysterious cosmic being, Deoxys, arrives from space, leading to widespread panic and chaos. The battle to subdue Deoxys reshapes much of the world, leading to the transition from BCE to Common Era (CE) due to the warping of time, which condensed many centuries into a few short years in real time, causing it to be known as the lost millennium.
The Aurora Phenomenon that accompanied Deoxys' arrival remains a topic of fascination among scientists, believed to be a cosmic side effect of its crash landing.
Common Era (CE)
1 CE The Founding of Kanto
Formation of Kanto Kingdom: Kanto is officially founded as a united kingdom under the influence of the House of Oak, descendants of The First. This begins an age of enlightenment, as Kanto leads scientific and cultural advances while maintaining a deep bond with Pokémon.
The House of Oak is known for maintaining ancient traditions, believed to be passed down from The First himself.
200 CE The Draconid Convergence
The Dragon Clans Unite: The Draconid people of Hoenn come together, forming an alliance to guard the secrets of Rayquaza. They believe Rayquaza alone holds the power to maintain balance against the elemental forces of Groudon and Kyogre.
The Sky Pillar is established as a sacred site, marking the convergence of the Dragon Clans.
400 CE The Sinnoh-Kanto Alliance
Birth of an Alliance: Sinnoh and Kanto establish the first alliance of kingdoms based on mutual respect and a shared scientific interest. The Celestic Mystics are instrumental in connecting the two cultures through their space-time studies.
This alliance sets the groundwork for later collaboration in resisting conquest by outside forces.
610 CE The Galarian Conquest
The Darkest Day: Galar faces a near-apocalyptic event when Eternatus threatens to plunge the region into chaos. The event, remembered as the Darkest Day, is quelled only when two heroes arise with Zacian and Zamazenta.
The story of the two heroes becomes foundational to Galarian culture, and their lineage is celebrated for generations.
750 CE The Splintering of the Orre Territories
Orre's Fragmentation: Due to internal corruption and the lingering effects of the War of Shadows, Orre splinters into disparate factions, becoming a lawless land where rogue trainers and warlords battle for control.
This fragmentation led to Orre being largely isolated from the rest of the world for many centuries.
900 CE The Fiore-Kanto-Sinnoh Trade and Science Pact
A Tentative Peace: The regions of Fiore, Kanto, and Sinnoh form a tentative alliance focused on trade and scientific exploration. The Pact of Molten Silver is signed, cementing their cooperation in researching powerful artifacts and ancient Pokémon.
The alliance is named after the precious metal found in the Mt. Coronet mines, which all three regions had an interest in exploiting.
946 CE - The Rise of Team Aqua
Team Aqua's Reign of Terror: Team Aqua rises in the archipelagos, driven by a highly xenophobic ideology and bent on the genocide of mainlanders. Their actions disrupt the natural balance, awakening both Groudon and Kyogre. The conflict between these titans brings devastation to many regions until Edgar Oak (Giovanni's grandfather) intervenes. At great personal cost, including the lives of two of his Elite Four, Edgar and his remaining allies appeal to Rayquaza at the Sky Pillar. Rayquaza intervenes, quelling Groudon and Kyogre and restoring an uneasy peace.
Edgar Oak's sacrifice is commemorated annually in Kanto, with the Day of Guardians, honoring the fallen Elite Four and the bond between humans and Legendary Pokémon.
993 CE The Johto Offensive Begins
Johto's World Conquest: Johto, driven by a doctrine of expansionism and empowered by the belief they were blessed by Ho-Oh, initiates a campaign of conquest. Over the next three years, Hoenn, Orre, Kalos, Paldea, and Unova fall under Johto's control.
Johto's rise is marked by a belief in divine right, claiming Ho-Oh's blessing grants them authority over all regions.
996 CE Present Day
Current State of the World: The world is on the brink of further upheaval. Sinnoh, Kanto, Fiore, Galar, and Alola remain independent, but Johto's advances have put them on high alert. Kanto, Sinnoh, and Fiore maintain a fragile alliance that hinges on both trade and the pursuit of scientific breakthroughs—including rumored efforts to create a controllable Legendary to counter Johto's might.
The arrival of a newly born Mew in a secret Kanto laboratory gives rise to new hope that a counterbalance to Johto's expanding dominion is possible.
