No Need For Self Pity
Tenchi Masaki And The Terrible, Horrible, No-Good, Very Bad Day
By Benji: The Vampire Confuser
I claim no credit for any of the characters in this story. This is eventually to be a multi-anime crossover.
As many of Tenchi's days do, this one started out fairly normally. Ryo-Ohki was woken by the sunlight streaming in through the window. Ryo-Ohki was very much a morning Cabbit, and her mewing drew him out of bed.
The house was unusually quiet this morning. He took a moment to fully wake up and realize why. When he did he realized he'd better get down stairs to cook breakfast. Washu might be eating in her lab as usual, but he never knew when she might emerge hungry. And now his own stomach was rumbling.
With Sasami, Ayeka and his grandfather off visiting family, Mihoshi on some police business, his father in Tokyo and Ryoko off doing, whatever, it was up to him to keep the house and cook the meals. Of course with only himself and Washu, to feed the cooking was relatively simple.
He scratched his head as he headed down the stairs. He almost didn't notice the pink haired woman until he was right on top of her.
"Good morning Tenchi!" Washu said brightly.
Tenchi started fully awake. "Miss Washu!" he greeted.
"Washu-Chan." She corrected firmly.
Tenchi smiled sheepishly. "Washu-Chan." He agreed. "Good morning."
"Are you ready for today's test Tenchi?" she asked, keeping pace with him into the kitchen. "I expect you to pass with flying colors."
Tenchi swallowed. Ah yes, the final exam. He certainly hoped he was ready. He really wanted to go on that school trip on Sunday. To say nothing of disappointing Washu. Ever since she started teaching science at his school he'd felt a special need to excel academically. And not just because of what she might do to him if he didn't. Though he did think she might be a little insane, he had a great deal of affection and respect for Washu. He didn't want to fail her.
"I'll do my best." He told her as he began preparing breakfast.
"We'll do a little study session before school." Washu said. "You'll do great, you were taught by the greatest scientific genius in the universe!"
She never got tired of calling herself that. Did she think he'd forget? Frankly Tenchi was satisfied with believing her the greatest scientific genius in Japan. The entire universe? Probably, he certainly couldn't refute it. But he was, deep down, a small town earth boy, and the Universe was a little much for him to be concerned about.
A study session sounded like a good idea, as long as it didn't involve him being strapped down in his underwear. The memory of that incident still made him a bit uncomfortable. Although…
Usually Washu gave him a ride to school, but today he felt like taking the long way. It gave him time to think.
Had it really only been a year since he'd woken Ryoko from her hibernation? So much had happened since then that it seemed like longer. He knew it was only Washu's help that had garnered him good grades at all that year. What with attacks by ancient villains, unexpected visits from the royal family of Jurai, Ayeka and Ryoko's constant battles, he had little time for school it seemed.
There were times, though he'd never admit it, when the house had been destroyed once again, or he himself had been caught in the crossfire between the two women violently vying for his affections, that he wished he'd never ventured into Ryoko's cave. How simple life would have been then.
But this week, with everyone gone, and the house so quiet, he realized that he'd miss them all terribly if they were to ever leave.
To be continued…
