I Can't Fix It
by Fiyero Oberon

"Crap, I've got so much to do. Clark, go get the ladder for me, I think something fell on the roof during the storm last night."

"Lois…" Clark sits on the couch, his head in his hands, watching Lois run around trying to work on everything at once.

"Hey, Martha! Martha?" Lois hangs up the phone and pauses to look up the stairs. "Mrs. Kent!" Martha doesn't respond and Lois just turns with a heavy sigh and charges out the door, her ponytail swinging back and forth.

Martha comes down the stairs and raises her eyebrows to Clark.

"She's working to get her mind off of…" He trails off and Martha bites her lip, nodding. "Maybe I should…" She nods again.

Clark stands and strides to the door. "Lois?"

Lois is lying in a heap on the ground.

Clark runs out the door, his heart pounding, praying that Lois is all right. "Lois, are you all right?"

"I can't do it…"

Clark kneels beside her, trying to help her sit up. "It's okay, it's okay."

"I can't fix it, Clark," she says, tears streaming down her face.

"I know, Lois." He pulls her close, wrapping his arms around her.

"I can't fix it."
