Dusk: Prologue

Disclaimer: I do not own many of these characters. Stephenie Meyer gets credited for most of the elements in this story, though a few are my own.

At first there is little known of Alice's past, but as the story in the books goes on, more and more is uncovered. I took what I read, what I researched, and what I imagined, and turned it into a story. This is the story of Mary Alice Brandon, local resident of Biloxi, Mississippi, and patient in a medical institution due to her foresight. This is how I think it could have happened. If any of my facts (though there are not many) are confused, please let me know. Any suggestions are welcome. I decided to go a little in the vein of Stephenie Meyer and put a vague part of the story in as a prologue. Here it is:

Darkness. Nothing but muffling, stifling, inky black, the kind that settles down like a blanket, eventually making it hard to breathe or think clearly, and covering over all fact, leaving everything to your imagination.

Stay in the dark long enough, and you slip out of yourself and become nothing. Everything either gets covered up or gobbled up by the hungry, greedy darkness. Who you are is gone, and there is nothing to be. You don't know where or what you are. All you know is dark and you want to close your eyes to shut it out, but the sight, or lack thereof, is the same. When it is light, you can cover your eyes or shut yourself in a closet to make it dark. In a barren, windowless room that is bolted shut, there is no escape from the darkness. Even my rare visions are black now. I fear that this darkness will be my end.

I pried at the board over what I think is the door until my hands were ragged and coated with slick blood, but to no avail. I would even take all the pain and the shocks and the questions back if I could get out of this chasm. But I don't think I can. The monster ate me up and it doesn't want to spit me back out.

And so I will sink. Sink sink sink until I become nothing but the darkness itself.
