Dedicated to all those who gave up their lives so we could live on...

Together but Apart

I went across the sea,

To fight another's war

And left behind me,

A family, and more.

Every day and night

Scared for my life

Bombing and fights

Always more and more strifes

My friends and comrades

Wounded and dying

While I was left

Praying and crying

Bombs went off,

During the night,

From bomber planes

Overhead in flight

Finally, after decades,

But was only seven, long years

The war was over, and I sent home

Sent across the sea, so clear

I was battered,

I was bruised,

I was broken,

I was used

Years went on,

I found a wife

Children and a home

- I started a new life.

But every year, on August fifteenth

I remember them, my friends,

Who were courageous, but feared,

Who left us, trying to make amends.

Who fought for their country

Who were slaughtered and died

Never knowing the freedom,

…Or the pride.
