Something Like That

A Naruto Fanfiction

"Do you think we should have asked someone else to come?" Sakura asked as she lay back against a tree.

"Nah, once they see we're gone they'll figure it out and come after us anyways. At least this way we get a head start."

"Do you really think we're ready?" she doubted herself.

Naruto considered this. "We have to be."

"Yeah."

"Sakura?" he asked.

"Yes?"

"Why… why do you miss him?"

"What do you mean?" she asked, obviously confused at his sudden question.

"I'm just wondering what your reasons are."

"Well," she began carefully, knowing full well what Naruto was really asking. "He was… is our friend," she sighed. "Our comrade. I can't let go of team 7."

"Yeah." He seemed partially satisfied by her answer. But neither of them could ever be completely satisfied when it came to Sasuke.

"I miss our team."

"I'm still here," he tried to smile.

"You weren't for a while."

This response brought on a moment of depressed silence before Naruto could bring himself to speak again.

"I know," he said. "But it was for Sasuke."

"What about you?" she asked after a moment. "Why do you miss him?"

"Same reasons. Team 7 was the first happy time of my life. Kakashi-sensei was like a second father figure, Iruka-sensei being the first. Sasuke was like a brother. I've never had any family, you know."

Sakura stood up and crossed over to where Naruto was sitting by the fire. "And me?" she asked.

"You? I don't think I could ever describe what you mean to me. You're…" he drifted off, unsure of what to say. "You're my…"

"Best friend?"

"Yeah," he sighed. "Best friend."

"You're mine too, you know."

They both smiled sadly, thinking the same thing. Something like that.
