Tonks sat in the empty classroom that had been changed into her room in the castle. A soft spring rain was falling outside, making the grounds shimmer. Normally, Tonks would have been enjoying the steady drops falling outside, but she was concentrating more on the drops in her lap. She was crying, crying for who she had lost, and about what she knew was to come. Not only that, but she hadn't seen Remus since she had had her outburst in the Hospital Wing. True, she had realy left her room, but in the times she had left, Remus was never in sight. Tonks put her face in her hands and shook her head. Dumbledore dead, Sirius dead, Voldemort back, Snape turning on all of them, and no way of knowing if Remus had come to his senses or not. Tonks was just empty, spent, and ached.
Remus hadn't seen Tonks much. He had looked for her at meals, everytime he was out of his room. Which was quite a lot, seeing as he wanted to find Tonks. He hadn't gone to her room, however, because he didn't want to intrude. Now, however, he needed to see how she was holding up. He walked down the corridore, passing chuckled and said.
"I think we may have another Moaning Myrtle in there! She's crying like no other!"
Peeves pointed to the door of Tonks' room, and Remus' heart sank.
"Peeves!" he commanded, "Let her alone."
And, to his surprise, Peeves zoomed off, obviously to go find and terrorize Filtch. Remus stepped forward and tapped on Tonks' door.
Tonks raised her head at a tap at her door. A voice sounded behind it.
"Tonks?"
It was Remus! She got up and opened the door. She saw his face flash with worry at the sight of her tearstaind face, and then he took her into his arms, where she cried into his shoulder for a long time.
"I can't believe their gone, they can't come back." She said, her voice chocked and muffled.
Remus just held her tighter, whispering to her.
"I know, shhh."
After what seemed an eternity Tonks' breathing became normal again, and she looked up at Remus, who leaned down and kissed her forehead.
"What would I ever do without you?" She said, giving him a watery smile.
"I'm sure you'd manage." he said, and kissed her cheeks.
"No, I wouldn't. I know I wouldn't. I need you, Remus. I don't care how old, poor, or dangerous you might be. I need you." she told him, looking into his eyes. Merlin, she loved his eyes.
"And I need you." he said, and, to Tonks surprise, kissed her lips.
Tonks kissed back, knowing nothing but the fact that she had Remus there for her.
When they broke apart, Remus looked at Tonks.
"Are you going to leave your room now?" he asked.
Tonks nodded, grinning for the first time since Dumbledore had been killed.
"Then I'll be seeing you, Nymphadora." Remus said, winking at her.
"It's Tonks." she said, shooting Remus a look.
"Tonks it is, then." he laughed. Tonks laughed with him, happy for the first time in days. True, there was a greater danger out there than anything they had ever known, the world was at war, and danger was everywhere. Yet they didn't need to live in constant fear, they needed to be happy while they could, for who knew what would happen in the future?
