Lies From Within

Chapter 43

Lynn looked over at her youngest son and sighed. "What the hell did you do this time?" She asked upon seeing him with a sling holding his right arm across his body.

"I fell down the stairs." He stated with a nervous smile.

"And how do you crack your head open on carpeted stairs?" She asked as she took note of the staples in his forehead as she grabbed the chart sitting at the end of his hospital bed to assess the real damage.

He looked up at her and put on a serious face. "I tripped at such a great velocity, that after tumbling down the stairs, I slid face first into the corner where the hallway splits! If Sean hadn't been there, I would have been screwed." He stated with a nod of his head for emphasis. "Why do I have to stay here? I'm fine."

"Let's see you have three staples in your head, two different sets of stitches, a dislocated shoulder and your ankle is sprained… And oh, maybe the possible concussion!" She exclaimed with a frustrated sigh. "I don't know what I'm going to do with you, Oliver." She stated with a fed up sigh. "Do you need to live life wrapped in bubble wrap?"

Oliver rolled his jade green eyes. "I'm not that bad." He grumbled. When he looked back up at the woman in question she had taken a seat in the chair next to the bed and was holding her head in her hands. "Look, Mom, I'm sorry. I'll try to stop being so… Accident prone." He stated even though what happened had been no accident. "What's wrong?"

"I'm exhausted, got bitched at by three… No four different people in the last twelve hours, and now I have to be worried that my son is concussed. Is that a good enough reason?" She asked with a quirked eyebrow. She leaned her head back against the wall and closed her eyes. "Oh, and a bonus of a dull throbbing in my head that's gradually getting worse." She groaned.

"I told you, Mom, you have to stop letting patients and their families get to you. It's not your fault you can't save everyone. You're only human." He reasoned as he reached out to touch her arm with his left hand. "You should just relax with me for awhile if you don't have to go back to life changing decisions." He joked. "Jade's coming by to see me since I can't exactly do the show from a hospital bed… And maybe if you're here she won't murder me. So it's a double bonus, you get to spend your day with me and I get to remain alive." He grinned and she looked over at him and rolled her eyes. "See, good deal." He smiled as she leaned her head back and let herself fall into a light sleep.

Paul glanced over at Aiden confused and then back towards the way Lynn had walked. He looked back at Stephanie who looked pale and beyond lost. "Wasn't that…" Paul nodded and put his finger to his lips since Aiden was giving them an odd look.

"Who was she?" He asked curiously. "And would you stop staring at me like that?!" He asked as he saw Paul staring at him as if he had split in two or something.

"Sorry… Lost in thought." He lied. "And I don't know. She looks like someone we used to know." He emphasized as he glanced back down the hall. "Why don't you go in? I'll catch up with you in a couple of minutes. And you were going to visit Shane anyway, right?" He questioned Stephanie who nodded but still looked confused.

"Yeah, but…"

"We'll talk about it later. Go see Vince and Shane." He stated firmly, in a tone of authority that mirrored Vince's.

"Fine." She stated, a sour look on her face.

Oliver looked up when the door was rudely shoved open and someone came in. He quirked an eyebrow when he took note of the bulky blond who had walked through the curtain. "You're that wrestler guy, what was his name? Triple Nose or something?" He asked as he tilted his head to the side.

Paul scoffed. "It's Triple H, thank you very much." He stated as he crossed his arms over his chest, his voice louder than he had intended, the irritation in his voice at being called such a name, clearly evident.

"Hey, keep it down. She didn't get much sleep last night, and isn't telling me something. And I don't know who let you in here, but I'm not a wrestling fan, so you can go find your little spandex speedos and go harass someone else." Oliver stated firmly.

Paul's face turned red as he glared at the younger man sitting up on the hospital bed. "Who do you think you are to talk to someone like that?!"

"My name is Oliver, and I don't dress in speedos for my job. If you don't leave, I can call a nurse to get security." He stated with a smug look in his eyes.

Paul was about to argue when a girl with long black hair walked in. "Damn it, Ollie. Who is supposed to do the show if you can't leave this fucking room?" She asked, her hazel eyes taking a moment to glance off towards Paul. "And who's the gorilla?"

"This is Triple H, he wrestles on TV in speedos." Ollie stated, getting a laugh out of the color Paul was turning. "I told him he could leave since I don't care for wrestling." He glanced back at Paul. "And this is a private conversation that you aren't part of. So get going, Hilariously Huge Honker..."

Paul went to say something when the girl shot him a glare. "Jesus, how many times do you need to be told to get lost?" She took a moment and gave him a fake smile. "I'll scream, and you'll be kicked out of the hospital… So you may want to leave now."

"Like you'd really do that." Paul scoffed.

"Well Mr. H… It's going to be an eighteen year old girl in a room with a boy who couldn't defend her from his hospital bed, and a knocked out doctor. Who do you think they're going to side with? The poor victim of a girl, or a bulky wrestler who could obviously throw her across the room?" She asked mimicking a scared face for a moment and he cursed when he realized she was right especially if the same security guards from last night were working today.

"Bye Mr. Nose!" Ollie called as Paul stomped out of the room. "That was pretty bad ass, Jade."

"Don't try and sweet talk me, you're still in trouble!" Jade stated as she walked over and sat down on the bed. "Jesus, staples… Really?" She asked as she ran her fingers over the three staples holding a cut closed on his forehead that disappeared into his hairline.

"I'm sorry…" Ollie stated without really looking apologetic. "And you have a lovely voice, you'll have to take over for me. There's no way she's letting me out of here tonight. And with the possibility of a concussion, the hospital won't let me leave because I'm a liability then." He reasoned with a sigh. "Apologize to Sean, Brian and Benji for me."

"You. Owe. Me." Jade seethed as she stood up and crossed her arms over her chest.

"I know." Ollie offered up. "I'll make it up to you when they let me out… Although you'll have to be patient since I'm going to be gimping around." He stated with a frown at the thought.

"Yeah, yeah. At least it will keep you from getting split open again for awhile." She stated firmly as she ran her finger over a long scar running up his left arm.

Paul walked out of the room and back towards Shawn's room with a grimace on his face. The kid he'd just seen reminded him of Aiden. "Ugh those two could be fucking twins." He groaned as he headed into Shawn's room. "Hey Shawny!" He grinned upon seeing his friend awake and grumbling out an apology to Aiden for demanding a Twix while high.

"That's right. Did you tell them not to give you any more painkillers?" Aiden asked.

Shawn glared down at the bed he was confined to. "Yes. I told them." He stated shortly.

"What did I say?" Aiden asked, confused out of his mind.

Paul frowned at Shawn's sudden mood swing and glanced over at Aiden. "Why don't you go call your grandma for updates on Becky and the kids?" He asked, and noticed Shawn's anger fade slightly into a pout.

"Alright. I'll be back in awhile, Dad." Aiden promised.

"Why don't you locate your sister, while you're at it too?" Shawn offered up as a secondary option so he would have more time to talk with Paul about the recent issue. Aiden nodded and left the room, Marissa's cell phone in his hand.

"Paul-"

"Shawn-" They both started at the same time. Paul sighed and motioned for Shawn to speak first.

"I saw Lynn this morning. She's not… dead. I'm so confused right now." Shawn stated as he ran a hand through his now somewhat shaggy hair. He looked over at Paul who looked nervous, and took it the wrong way. "I'm not crazy. She's a doctor, I saw her this morning."

"I don't think you're crazy. I talked to her last night." Paul admitted still looking nervous. "I told her off for how she could just up and leave you and the kids behind. I called her a bad mom," He added to which Shawn nodded to since in his eyes, leaving your children behind was a good reason to call someone a bad parent. "When Steph, Aid and I were about to come in, she had stepped out…" He paused unsure of how to word the next part. "The nurse said that her son was in a room a few doors down." He went on to explain.

Shawn looked devastated. "She moved on and had another kid." He mumbled.

"Shawn," Paul paused to make sure Shawn would look up at him. "Her son looked just like Aiden."

Shawn's eyes widened as he looked Paul in the eyes. "Maybe he got most of his mom's genes?" He tried to reason because there was no way this other son could be his, right?

"He gave me this smug ass smirk, Shawn. The one that only a Hickenbottom can pull off." Paul affirmed with a frown on his face. "Look, I don't know what the hell happened after that car accident, but on top of just disappearing for eighteen years… She's been keeping another big secret from you for eighteen years." He stated.

Roxy was rudely awakened by an irritated nurse. "You already broke rules by staying overnight, can you at least move so I can do my job?" She asked in a stuck up tone.

She rubbed at her eyes and went to sit up and realized she couldn't. "Tell that to him." She mumbled, too tired to tell her off for being a brat. Roxy tugged on Randy's arm and managed to squirm away from the man in question after a short struggle. She moved out of the way and went over to the couch to sit down on as the nurse went about taking Randy's vitals.

"How are you feeling, Mr. Orton?" She asked politely, a warm smile on her face as he completely blew her off to look over at Roxy. He frowned at the way she buried her face in her hands and ignored everything going on. "Mr. Orton?"

He glanced back at the nurse. "What?"

"How are you feeling today?" She repeated her question, her eyes turning hard.

"Fine?" He asked as he glanced back at Roxy. When he looked back to see the nurse giving him a dirty look. "What do you want me to say? They said I have a moderate concussion! Of course my head fucking hurts."

"Be nice." Roxy chastised Randy, and then looked up at the annoyed nurse. "He's not a good morning person." She explained and went to stand up. "And if I'm really that much of a problem, I'd be happy to leave." She stated firmly.

Randy frowned over at her and then glared towards the nurse. "Don't you have other patients to annoy?"

"You know I need to visit my dad sometime soon so he doesn't think I forgot about him, right?" Roxy asked Randy sarcastically.

"He'll be fine." Randy argued with a pout. He looked back towards the nurse, "When can I get my release papers? I have people to look over me." He stated with a coercing smile.

"I'll get a doctor to come check on you and give you all of that information, Mr. Orton." The nurse stated with a shrug. He nodded and watched her walk out and looked back to Roxy.

"Stop staring at me like that." She demanded.

"Then come here and sit down with me." He countered. She rolled her eyes and walked over to sit on the edge of the bed. "See, was that so bad?"

"Yes." She mumbled. "I'm still tired."

"Then nap?" He questioned. He rolled his eyes when she shook her head and tugged at her arm so she was laying down on the bed next to him. "Sleep."

The doctor walked in and smiled at Randy. "I hear you're ready to leave." Randy nodded. "Here are the papers, the only other thing I wanted to ask you was if you wanted us to do an x-ray to see how your arm is healing up."

"Sounds good." He stated as he glanced down at his arm. "If it's good can the cast go too?" He asked, looking extremely hopeful.

"Let's see what the x-ray tells us first, Mr. Orton." She smiled at the eager man sitting in front of her.

Lynn woke up to the sound of a thunderstorm outside the hospital windows. She cracked her back before attempting to get out of the chair she had managed to fall asleep in. She looked to her left and noticed Oliver was passed out, probably out of boredom, and she glanced over at the clock on the wall. It was now about three in the afternoon.

She walked out of the room and took a look around. She headed to the nurse's station where she saw Emily. "Thanks for doing my rounds, if you want I can get back to them."

"No, it's fine. You look exhausted. I wish you had gotten today off, and I don't mind." The girl offered, Lynn nodded with a wary smile.

The girl in question walked off and Lynn sighed. She had basically gotten told she looked exhausted. After having an internal debate on whether or not she wanted to go back to talk to Shawn or hold off until she could stand her ground a little better. She decided she was going to change back into her regular clothes and then face Shawn one final time before going back to check on Ollie and see what they had decided on the possible concussion.

After changing into jeans, her worn out Nikes, and a button up navy blue shirt, Lynn found herself standing in front of Shawn's hospital room door once more. She let out a frustrated sigh and knocked once before stepping in. She wasn't surprised to find Paul by his side and was contemplating walking right out the door again. "I'm sorry. I'll go." She offered up when she noticed Paul's pointed glare towards her.

Shawn nudged Paul who stood up with a grumble. "Excuse me." He muttered towards her as he walked past her out the door leaving her confused that he didn't have any other foul words for her.

She went to try and speak up but wavered under the intensity in Shawn's eyes as he stared at her. She glanced off to the side and swallowed. "Since you didn't really let me talk last time, why don't we just start with your questions and then we can go from there." Her voice came out soft and nervous.

Shawn locked eyes with her and cleared his throat. "I have a lot of questions, I hope you have plenty of time." He stated. His blue eyes were clouded over and it made her nervous.

"Okay." She mumbled as she took a seat in one of the chairs in the room. She folded her hands in her lap and looked back up at him.

"Was there more of a reason behind your parents taking you back in without as many questions?" He asked knowing full well he'd be running to save his life if the tables were turned and he had shown up on his mom's doorstep.

Lynn bit her lip for a moment and then spoke up. "Yes." Her voice was soft and Shawn ended up sitting up to try and hear her better.

"Such as?" He asked, not wanting to full out accuse her of hiding a child from him. He watched as she clenched her hands over one another and looked down at her lap.

"A six month old infant in my arms." Her voice cracked and she wouldn't look up at him.

"And you didn't think that was important information to share?" He asked, he felt conflicted between being angry at her and feeling sympathetic for her.

She looked up and swallowed, tears threatening to fall. "No one knew where to find you or how to get a hold of you. They didn't have any information other than the old house number and an address." She paused for a minute to try and calm herself. "Anytime I tried, you were away. Bills were piling up, I had to do something. I got a job, started taking classes. By the time I finally caught up with you and had any chance of walking up, you and your fiancée or wife looked happy. I hesitated and hate myself for it every day. The next time I had any chance, was a few years later… but I couldn't do that to your wife after I saw the little boy… Not when you all seemed so happy."

"You were okay with Aiden having never known you?"

"No, but I felt like I didn't have much of a choice." She spoke softly. When she saw the look he was giving her, she took a deep breath. "I know I did… But I couldn't do that to someone."

"What's his name?" Shawn asked, going down a different route.

"Oliver." She went back to staring down towards her shoes. "I'm sorry."

"Did you know about it before the crash?" He questioned.

"I don't know." She answered honestly. "I don't remember much. I'm surprised there wasn't more damage." She admitted after thinking back to everything she had been told when she woke up. "I remember being freaked out when I woke up… But I don't remember why. There was so much rehab involved." She rested her head against her hand. "It felt never ending."

"I want to be angry with you." Shawn sighed.

"You have every right to be angry with me and hate me…" She admitted quietly. "I'm so sorry." She looked up and he frowned at the tears falling down her cheeks.

Shawn cleared his throat and asked his next question. "Does he know who I am?"

A/n: So you get a look into Lynn's reasons for not reappearing as soon as possible. Is that a good enough reason for staying away from her kids for that long? You also get to meet Oliver Erikson, who is going to become infamous for causing trouble. Thanks for reading, sorry it took forever. I'm hoping to figure out a way to end it soon and then I'm probably going to go over it and tweak it a bit when it's done. Thanks for reading, reviews are always welcome.
