2A/N - This story was previously named 'Naruto's birthday' and was a once off piece. I've decided to make it and ongoing story and renamed it 'This is how I save you'. Both of the original first 2 chapters have been revised and edited. I am very excited to continue writing this story after so long. I really want to give readers a take on what I thought the dynamic was between these two characters. This story does involve yaoi, boy love, boy on boy or whatever you want to call it. If you don't like it then simply don't read. I love feedback and constructive criticism. So without any further adieu, lets get into the story. Enjoy!
Chapter 1 – Happy Birthday
The story takes place a few months after Sasuke left the village to train with Orochimaru.
Naruto fumbled with the keys to his apartment, swaying slightly. He had spent the evening celebrating his 13th birthday with his former teacher Iruka, his Sensei Kakashi, team mate Sakura and Mentor Jiraiya. Half way through their dinner at Ichiraku's, Jiraiya decided it was time for Naruto to have his first taste of Saki. Though Iruka protested strongly that Naruto was way too young, Kakashi reasoned that one drink wouldn't hurt. And so Naruto swallowed the harsh tasting liquid and felt it burning all the way down to his stomach. Jiraiya patted him on the back when he started coughing, which only made things worse.
Fast forward to later that same evening and Naruto had finally managed to unlock the door. He stumbled to his bedroom and collapsed on the bed. Everything seemed to be spinning so Naruto closed his eyes and tried to take a few deep slow breaths. Eventually he fell asleep only to be ripped from his dreams by Kyuubi's thundering voice in his head.
"You're not alone boy" the demon fox said.
Naruto still felt a little fuzzy, but he could sense another chakra in the room with him .He looked up and his eyes widened in surprise.
"Sasuke-kun!" he yelled sitting up on his bed.
"Shut up dobe! Do you want to wake up the whole village?" the last remaining Uchia whispered.
Naruto just stared at him for a moment, still not believing what he was seeing. Then he smiled brightly.
"You're back!" he said and jumped to his feet and tried to hug Sasuke, but he only side stepped and Naruto fell flat on his face.
"I'm not back and are you drunk?" he said noticing Naruto's somewhat slurred words.
"No, I only had one drink" he said pouting slighty.
Sasuke just rolled his eyes and said "It's your birthday right"
"Yeah?" Naruto answered while rubbing at the headache forming behind his eyes. Sasuke looked irritated, but didn't say anything.
"What about it?" Naruto asked when the other boy didn't say anything.
Sasuke sighed and pulled a small box from his robe. Naruto looked confused.
"You got me a present?" Naruto asked while accepting the gift from the taller Uchia.
Sasuke didn't respond. Naruto slid of the lid. Inside was a painted carving of the Kyuubi. Naruto held the perfect wooden sculpture in his hand, examining the fine craftsmanship. He noticed the initials U.S on the fox's belly.
"Did you make this?" Naruto asked in wonder. Sasuke avoided his gaze, but nodded his head.
"Arigato Sasuke-kun" for a moment the two shinobi stood in silence.
Sasuke turned to leave, but Naruto jumped in front of him. Sasuke's eyes narrowed.
"Don't make me regret coming here" he said in a low voice.
Naruto didn't move. Sasuke frowned at the blond boy.
"Happy Birthday" he said and disappeared in a puff of smoke.
