They knew it was coming and they dreaded it. Still, they couldn't do anything about it. It was inevitable. They had known from the moment they met that it would happen, just as they knew they couldn't stop it.
They managed to keep from thinking about it most of the time, but sometimes the realization would come out of nowhere and blindside them. It was hard, but it was a certainty.
It wasn't all bad though. In fact, sometimes it was almost a relief because the only thing harder than saying good-bye would be never meeting in the first place.
