Lucius Malfoy isn't a bad man.
Oh, of course he has been involved in many unfortunate situations, and his actions cannnot be forgiven, but at heart he only had the best of intentions. All he wanted was to make the world pure; though, he didn't have the best grasp on what that word meant, but neither did his father or his father before him, and back until the first wizard that decided that muggleborns were inferior.
Lucius Malfoy has caused a lot of pain.
I know. He has caused me more pain than he has caused the world and for that I hate him despite the I love bare for him. It is hard for me understand but it is true. It is the contradiction of our lives, not the least of these is my desperate need for him to escape from Azkaban once again but for the sake of my soul and my sanity he needs to stay there until he rots.
Draco Malfoy isn't his father.
There may be an incredible similarity in features and outward demeanor but there are subtle differences. It is in small things, like the way they carry themselves: Draco isn't as haughty and he likes to hold his a little to the left when thinking. Draco prefers the freedom of movement offered by muggle styles of clothing, while I do not doubt that Lucius would go naked before wearing muggle clothing. Draco's voice is warmer than his father's no matter how dissaffected he may sound, and while Lucius pays lip service to love, the word never passes Draco's lips but his actions belie his silence on the subject.
Draco was a Deatheater.
Though Draco's heart was never in it and he did what he could to sabatoge the cause that his parents' ill held beliefs forced him to fight for; thinking backs on the risks he took makes me that much more thankful to have him alive and whole with me today. He carries the scars inside his body and under his cloths. I do not understand how he cannot blame me for not properly protecting him.
Draco is on a first name basis with Harry Potter.
I do not understand how that happened, but I hope it's for the best.
A/N: Umm, this was originally a drabble but it kinda grew and grew and grew into a regular one-shot with a hint of pre-slash (if you wanna take it that way).
