A/U: Ok I know this is anything but original and if this is remarkably like someone else's then I'm truly sorry and it is an honest accident, I do not mean to copy anyone's work. Anyway this just popped into my head like five minutes ago and I decided to write it down (Yay first one shot! I have the worst time finishing anything and writing short stories so this is a breakthrough for me ^^) so yeah. I know I have other stuff to work on and I will…eventually but I have been in an Inuyasha mood for a while now so yeah this happened. Anyway I hope you enjoy

Disclaimer: Rin owns Sessh, Sessh own Jaken and Jaken (like myself) Owns NOTHING. Poor us.

The gift

Sesshoumaru stared down at the girl with his usual stoic look. He cocked his head a bit studding the gift she held out to him, trying to figure out its exact purpose. It was soon clear that

it had none; he had to remember that he was dealing with nothing more than a child and anything she would give him would be useless. She did look proud though. He assumed she had

made it by herself from odds and ends she had found in the village they had just passed. He knew he had to be careful to avoid an unpleasant situation. The demon lord was about to,

rather gently, tell her that she needn't gift him with anything and leave it at that, when Jaken came into the picture. Good ol' Jaken.

"What are you doing foolish girl! Do you honestly think lord Sesshoumaru would demean himself by accepting that! What would his followers think?" the little water demon glared at the

girl and 'humphed' when she made a feeble excuse and apology.

"I just though…." She said in a small voice looking away, feeling foolish, and wishing she could just disappear. Tears began to shine in her eyes but she was strong enough not to let

them fall.

Sesshoumaru looked at her in wonder, his face never changing. She had looked so proud just a moment ago, with her little trinket in hand, now her face was red with embarrassment and

her eyes were wet with tears. She mumbled an apology only his ears could catch. Jaken was still rambling on about how foolish she was, unaware that neither of them were paying him

any mind anymore.

Sesshoumaru sighed. He really shouldn't care so much. He didn't know why he cared so much, but he did know that for some reason the girl's tears struck a nerve with him. He hated to

see her upset. He hated it more when she was upset because Jaken was being an ass…did she go through this every time he was away? He sighed again and realized what his action

would be. Without saying a word or even giving her a proper look he extended his hand down to the child. Rin looked at his hand then up to him in confusion. He curled his fingers in and

out once, a silent command to give him her gift.

With a look of awe and something like pride, the little girl handed over the small token of her affection. Sesshoumaru took the offering and, again without really looking at anything just

staring off into the distance, wound the shiny pink silk around his neck and tied it off. All the while he looked as if he were on auto pilot whereas in fact he was considering what he was

doing. Is there truly any harm in this? It's not like anyone will see me…

With the ribbon around his neck he leaned nonchalantly against a tree and started off into space as he always did, as if nothing at all had happened. Rin gave a squeal of delight and

began dancing around in the grass singing to herself and giggling in the way all eight-year-olds do when they are pleased with themselves. Jaken took one look at his master ( he just

now left his ranting and realized what had taken place ) and screeched in disbelief, immediately interrogating Sesshoumaru as to what he was doing and why, to which the demon lord

responded by planting his foot firmly on Jaken's head.

"Shut up Jaken."
