A/N: Haven't been writing much, I know. I'm working on a longer multi chapter story, but I want to finish it before I publish. For this one I'm pretty sure the rating is right, but tell me if you think it should be changed.
He ran a hand down her side, feeling the tender warmth of her bare skin. With the tip of his index finger, he gently traced the outline of a blue green bruise just above her hip.
She sighed and closed her eyes. His hand abandoned the bruise, skimming up her side again to trace a thin pink scar on her shoulder. A chill raced through her body before she relaxed under his hand.
He trailed his fingertips over her neck, before moving them lower and laying his hand over a cigarette burn right above her nipple. He turned his hand so that he was cupping her breast and leaned forward to press his lips to the burn mark.
"Cal." She spoke softly, but firmly.
He raised his eyes to meet hers. "Did Alec do this to you?"
Gillian looked at him, letting a flash of her pain and agony show on her face. But then she glanced down and her face was blank once again. "I think of them as battle scars, as a reminder of everything that I've been through."
Cal ran his eyes over Gillian. She lay facing him on his bed, arm propping her up. Scars and bruises dotted her slim body.
"Yeah, I understand." And he did.
Cal laid a hand on her hip, again feeling the icy wave wash through her body. "Gillian." He waited for her to look at him before continuing. "Gill, I love you."
"I know." She rolled onto her back, resting her hands on her stomach. For a minute, she merely gazed at the plain white ceiling overhead. Cal watched her silently, studying her impassive face, her scarred, perfect body.
Gillian turned her head to look at him. Quietly she said, "I love you, too."
Cal nodded, knowing that no other response was required of him. He turned over to lie on his back beside her. After a moment, Gillian moved closer to him, resting her head on his chest and wrapping her arms around him. Cal pulled the sheets up over them, letting them settle around their bodies. He took a deep breath, inhaling the comforting smell of her vanilla shampoo.
Together the two of them simply lay there enveloped in silence, forgetting the troublesome outside world.
