Hi! So I know this is really short, but it's just a drabble! It takes place after the tomb is opened, and it's Damon's thoughts regarding Elena. As (I hope) you can tell, he's kind of in denial about his feeling for her! However, I do think that this would have initially been the reason that Damon was interested in Elena at all. It's based off of the first three sentences of Lust by aiscat93. That is an incredible story, and if you have not read it you should go and read it right now! Well, after you read this! Enjoy!
Disclaimer: I do not own Vampire Diaries, or anything involved with it. ...Shocker.
She was Katherine a century in the future. That was it. That was the only reason he stuck around in Mystic Falls; the only reason he needed to be around her. With Elena there he didn't have to wonder. He didn't have to suffer through the torture of the unknown. She could only answer small questions, but it was something. He didn't have to ponder what she would look like in this time period, or wonder if jeans would suit her. Then again, what wouldn't suit Katherine? Elena's mere presence softened the blow of losing Katherine: of being abandoned by her. Elena couldn't abandon him, not if he never committed to her. Not if he denied all the feelings welling up inside of him. He just had to stay under the pretence of making his brother miserable. Elena would never leave Stephan, and if he did the same, Elena would never leave him. He could steal her away, even if only for nothing more than a few moments, pretending that he had Katherine all to himself. Pretending that Katherine had decided he was enough for her. That was one thing that Elena and Katherine had in common. One Salvatore brother was never enough. Well, it might be for Elena, but he wasn't that brother. Neither one of the identical women would ever chose him, but he could at least make them contemplate it. And he would. He would try everything to make Elena want him, even if it was a doomed pursuit from the start. He would do anything for Elena, but not because he cared. He couldn't care; he was Damon Salvatore, and he felt nothing. No, he would do this because Elena should have been his. She should have been Katherine. She was what Katherine could have been. She was the Katherine he would have had, if she had only loved him enough to stay. However, that was the past, and now he would only focus on the future. His eternal future. Without Katherine. Elena wasn't the one he truly wanted, but for now, he would make do with what he had. Except that Elena wasn't exactly his. That could be a problem. But one that he would fix. He had to. His Katherine clone was all he had left.
So, there it is! What did you think? Please review and let me know! Good? Bad? Did I get Damon at all? I hope you liked it! Please review!
