Thanks to a kind reviewer lostmoonchild, I decided to do a story from the group's perspective of the impending final battle. My first fic, AND SO HE WAITED did the story from Naraku's standpoint.
*WITH FANFARE* AS USUAL I DO NOT OWN INUYASHA…..
The group glanced around nervously. "Soon" they all thought. "Soon the final battle would be fought, lives lost, revenge gotten, old wounds healed, wrongs made right. The beginning of the end." Finally, after three years, three long years on a road of hardship, grief and disappointment though sometimes sprinkled with joyous moments for the group the end was finally near. As the group sat around the fore that night they each thought of the reason they had joined this fight in the first place. InuYasha had promised vengeance for Kikyo and he intended to make good on that. No he no longer loved the dead miko but his sense of honor would not allow him to do otherwise. He knew that he could no longer go to Hell with her because he loved Kagome. He had every intention after the battle and the defeat of Naraku to ask Kagome to be his mate.
Kagome sat across the fire deep in thought. She knew that this battle would not be an easy one. Her main thoughts were focused what she would do after the jewel was completed. What would she wish on the jewel that would an untainted wish? Would the well close and she be dragged back to her own time never to see her beloved InuYasha again? Ah, InuYasha, the hanyou she loved with every fiber of her being. She wanted more than anything to stay and make a life with InuYasha, but did he want that with her? Did he still love Kikyo? Would she be forced to choose between his time and hers?
All these thoughts running rampant through her mind as she quietly stared into the soft glow of the fire.
Sango the young slayer was wrapped up in her own thoughts. She had to avenge her brother Kohaku and her village. She had nothing left, save her need for revenge on Naraku for all the pain he caused her. She had the monk Miroku, whom she cared for deeply. Perhaps after the battle he would stop his leching and court her properly….a girl could hope, right? She could only hope that Kohaku could be saved or at least properly put to rest. Trapped in her idle thoughts, she stroked her neko Kilala, who purred softly in her lap.
Miroku deep in thought as well had many questions. What would he do after the battle? Would his curse truly be gone? Would Sango see through his façade and know he wanted only her? Yes, the monk knew for a long time now that Sango was and would be the only woman for him. He was determined to show her that her had eyes only for her and perhaps would convince her to let him court her. He glanced over at the slayer and smiled softly to himself. Yes, he would show her.
Shippo, the youngest member of the ragtag group napped in the lap of Kagome, not worrying about anything around him. He knew that he was safe in the arms of Kagome and that no harm would befall him. His only wish was that his okaa-san be allowed to stay with him when the jewel was complete. He wanted that for himself, but he also wanted it for that baka Inuyasha so that he could finally the stubborn demon could tell Kagome how he felt. Yes, that is what he hoped. He always wanted parents after his own had passed away and Kagome and Inuyasha could give him that. Perhaps ,in the future some siblings as well.
As they all sat together around the fire, they knew that tomorrow they would begin the journey to end all journeys. The destruction of Naraku and new beginnings for them all. They even had enlisted the help of Sesshoumaru who had promised aid if needed.
They all looked up from the fire and smiled at each other. They would fight, conquer and be victorious…..
The Next Morning
The group packed up camp one final time as warriors and began their trek to their destiny….
