(I just wanted to let you all know that I am so sorry for taking so long to post this chapter. Let's just say life got in the way. This will possibly be the final chapter in this story. Hope you enjoy!)
Ethan had some difficulty wrapping his mind around what had happened between Gwen and Hank. Ethan then realized that Hank was not aware that he was going to be a father. Ethan made his way over to Hank's apartment to fill him in on the shocking news.
"Hank, I need to talk to you—it's of the utmost importance!" Ethan spoke loudly so Hank could hear him through the door. "It's about Gwen!"
Hank opened the door and let Ethan in. "So, tell me what's going on," Hank said.
"As you know, Gwen is pregnant, and she is in the psychiatric ward at Harmony Hospital," Ethan replied. "Well, it was discovered that she was further along than she let on. She's actually almost five months along, she's just not showing enough to tell. They did a DNA test and discovered that you are her baby's father."
Hank was beyond shocked! It was just then that the drunken one-night stand came back to him. "Ethan, I am so sorry man," Hank replied, guilt all over his face. "Gwen and I had a one-night stand back in July. That must be when her baby was conceived. I swear I didn't know. Gwen never said anything to me about even being pregnant. I found out when everyone else did."
"I believe you, Hank," Ethan replied, his voice laced with understanding. "Gwen kept you in the dark and passed her baby off as mine to keep Theresa and me apart. Hank, would you come with me to Harmony Hospital to visit Gwen?"
"You bet I will, Ethan!" Hank replied, anxious to know how Gwen and their baby were doing.
"Let's go, then," Ethan said, already on his way out the door.
They made their way to Harmony Hospital, and then on to the Psychiatric Ward. Dr. Ackland ensured them that Gwen and the baby were fine, and that Gwen had snapped out of the mental break she suffered the day before. Dr. Ackland informed them that he would be keeping Gwen another seventy-two hours for observation purposes, and that if she didn't display any further signs of psychosis, she could go home.
Ethan and Hank were very pleased to hear that Gwen and the baby were doing fine, and that Gwen was doing so well with her other issues.
"Can we go in and see her?" Hank asked.
"Of course you can," Dr. Ackland replied. "Just not too long, okay? Gwen needs her rest."
"Thanks, Doc!" Hank replied enthusiastically.
Ethan and Hank made their way into Gwen's room. Gwen was sitting in a chair and looking out the window. She looked over and saw the two men as they entered her room.
"Ethan, you came for me!" Gwen shouted excitedly, obviously mistaken.
"No, Gwen," Ethan began. "I brought Hank to see you so you could tell him the truth about the baby."
Gwen's eyes grew as big as saucers. She didn't think anyone would discover her baby's true paternity.
"The doctors determined that you are further along than you let on, Gwen," Hank said. "They did a DNA test to find out who your baby's real father is. I already know, but I would like to hear it from you, Gwen, if you don't mind."
"Okay, the baby is yours, Hank," Gwen replied, defeated again. "Ethan, I'm sorry I lied to you—I just couldn't bear to see you with Theresa, so I told you the baby was yours. I hope both of you can forgive me in time."
"Oh, I'm sure we can," Ethan replied. "I think you and Hank need some time to talk alone, so I'm going to go find Theresa and tell her the news."
"Ethan's right," Hank began, "we do have some things to talk about, Gwen. Ethan, we'll see you later, okay?"
"Sure thing," Ethan replied as he made his way out of Gwen's room to go the Bennett Bed and Breakfast where he and Theresa spent the previous night.
~Twenty minutes later, at the Bennett B&B~
"Ethan, you're back!" Theresa exclaimed excitedly. "Where did you go?"
"I went to take Hank to the hospital to see Gwen." Ethan replied. "Turns out the baby is his and not mine."
"So, you no longer have any ties or obligations to Gwen?" Theresa asked apprehensively.
"Nope! I'm a free man!" Ethan replied as his cell rang. "This is Ethan," he answered. "Wow, Hank, that is wonderful news! Theresa and I wish you two all the happiness in the world, man!...I will, and congratulations to both of you from both of us. Bye Hank!"
"Ethan, what is it?"
"Hank just told me that after talking things over with Gwen, they decided to get married," Ethan replied.
"What?! That's amazing!" Theresa exclaimed. "There really is nothing keeping us apart anymore!"
"Nope, there isn't," Ethan replied. "So what do you say, we get to planning our wedding?"
"I would love nothing more, Ethan," Theresa replied happily. "I love you, Ethan!"
"I love you too, Theresa," Ethan replied. "Always and forever."
