Dark Kingdom backing has revived the rail industry. Thousands of miles of new rail have been installed over the last twelve months, and thousands more will be laid over the next several years.

Rail transport costs, both cargo and passenger, have fallen drastically. DKG (Dark Kingdom Glasswerks) steam engines, which are nearly maintenance free and require no additional fuel, have become common. Costs are expected to fall further as rail and rolling stock are converted to the Dark Kingdom's 1.5 meter gauge, allowing both intercontinental and interplanetary shipment via the Dark Kingdom's transit gate system.

Rail improvements will continue at an accelerated pace for five more years, after which Dark Kingdom estimates say coverage will be `adequate'
