4A/N I DO NOT own NCIS. This story came to me while listening to my Ipod. It's based on a song by the same title. It's not that long but I had to get it out of my head. It's AU.
Tony sits on the couch in his and Kate's apartment. He sees her favorite hat hanging by the door and remembers when she first got it.
They were in Mexico on their honeymoon and they were walking around some outdoor shops when in started pouring down rain and the wind was blowing like crazy. She ran into a shop that sells hats and she saw this big floppy hat and bought it. It blocked the wind and the rain from her face. She wore it for the remainder of their honeymoon and every storm after they got back to DC.
He starts to think she can't be really gone, she would never leave that hat.
He walks down the hall and sees her shoes that she got last Christmas Eve,
They were in New York to visit her family for Christmas when Tony took her downtown to see all the lights and decorations. They walked past this vintage shoe store that was getting ready to close when she just stopped and told Tony she just had to have those shoes that were in the window. He said no at first, then she laughed and said "come on they're calling my name, you know you wanna buy them." He gave in and went in to buy her those shoes. She put them on right there on the street and threw the ones she had on at Tony. They continued there walk and he just stared at Kate in her new shoes and thought of how good they looked on her.
He walks into their room and sees the book she's been reading laying on her side of the bed with the bookmark he got her sticking out of the top.
It was their 2nd Anniversary and he wanted to get her something special but also something she could use everyday. He walks around the mall and sees this place that does engraving and he spots a silver bookmark that is in the shape of hearts joined together. He knows she'll love it so he gets it for her and has the guy engrave " For my love, our hearts forever together" He leaves to go home to his beautiful wife. The next morning she's still sleeping when he wakes so he creeps into the kitchen to make her breakfast. When he comes back she is awake holding a small box for him. He sets the food tray down and they exchange gifts. He opens his first and it's a silver pen engraved with the same thing he had engraved on her bookmark. When she opens her gift and sees that they had both thought the same she starts to cry and Tony is concerned. "what's wrong, don't you like it?" "I Love it, we were made for each other." They just lay in bed all day holding each other thinking of how blessed they are. He opens the book and notices that she only got to chapter 21.
He looks around the room and notices that so much of her remains and he thinks again that she can't be really gone. That was the last time Tony was in their apartment and the last time he saw all of Kate's belongings. He grabs the pen she got him and leaves.
