Pregnant. Both Lois and I looked at each other as if we couldn't believe our ears. Dr. Klein was brimming from ear to ear with a huge smile on his face. If I wasn't certain, I was almost sure he was happier than Lois and I were. We had told him our secret months ago, that I was in fact Superman and that we were hoping to have children. We had had to pry him off the floor. We had used the same presentation we'd used with Lois' father. Although, instead of leaving the room, I had spun in place in and out of the suit. He was a little bit more acceptable to the idea than Sam had been. Once the initial shock had worn off, he was all over the idea, working side by side with Sam to find a way for Lois to be able to get pregnant.
But it wasn't either of their efforts that allowed us to get pregnant. Oddly enough, it was a bout with red Kryptonite that brought my system down to be able to conceive with Lois. Neither one of us have any complaints about the way we were able to conceive. We were just elated to be able to get pregnant. And when Lois started having Superpowers again, both Sam and Dr. Klein laughed. It was Dr. Klein who suggested that Lois pick up her Ultra Woman boots again and start fighting side by side with Superman. It was Jimmy who asked Lois if she thought that Ultra Woman and Superman were together and that's when Lois and I decided to do the special on Ultra Woman and Superman "Tying the Knot" one month with their follow up special "And Baby Makes Three" the next month. It was perfect. The Daily Planet was at the top of the country's best-selling newspaper list. We were even offered a book deal, which we didn't pick up.
Why would we? We are journalists, after all. We can write our own novels. Lane and Kent were not only the number one news team in Metropolis, we were the number one news team across the nation. Everyone wanted us, but we turned down interviews. We couldn't just go on TV everywhere. There was a bigger truth to protect here. We had two superhero identities to protect here now, not just mine, plus we had the baby's life to protect now. We couldn't just go off on some whimsical adventure, risking exposure just because we were the hottest team sinceā¦ Bonnie and Clyde? Batman and Robin? Well, whoever it was, we were definitely the best. But it wasn't going to last long. Lois was only going to have her superpowers for as long as she was pregnant, which meant Ultra Woman was going to have to go back home and take their super child back with her, and Superman was going to have to stay behind in Metropolis.
