How could anyone be so cruel as to lock up these people just because they didn't fit into the perfect stereotype of the German race? These people committed no crime except to be Jewish or go against the Nazi ideology, and for that, the Nazis imprisoned them here and worked them till they were skin and bones.

Hell, I'm a bastard and I know I do and say stupid things, but even I could not imagine this, not even for my worst enemy or my wife, who in an impersonal letter just announced she was leaving me and taking everything. These men were separated from their wives, and Lord only knows where the children are. Based on what I've seen so far, it wouldn't surprise me if the children were dead.

I just finished talking to Dick, who said that the Russians had liberated a camp even bigger. This one had gas chambers for executing prisoners and ovens to cremate the bodies and remove their presence.

I'm wandering through the camp watching the cleanup and thinking about everything that has happened. I've also learned that Hitler has killed himself, but even that won't stop all the violence.

What the hell are we doing here? Why does it have to be us to free these people who should never have been here in the first place? It's a messed up world where these things can happen…
