I cannot believe it. Not McKay. Not the arrogant guy I knew. He was so self-obsessed he would not even step out of the way to let someone pass. There is no way. I cannot believe it. He never dirtied his hands if he could avoid it. He was all theory, not implementation. Certainly not working with anyone with an IQ around average if he could avoid it. This is the kind of guy who thought a degree was the most basic qualification available and ridiculously easy. He had no people skills. Now, I know a lot of scientists struggle with that kind of thing but McKay took awkward to a whole new level – he could have added that as another doctorate without breaking a sweat. So relationships with women were non-existent. They do not take kindly to somebody who tells them they should be honoured he is taking the time to talk to them. Especially when he then pontificates about his pet theory of the week and only deigns to answer their questions if they are intelligent enough to warrant his effort. As I said, the social skills of a toddler on his good days.

So I cannot believe it. I have sat and listened to the news coverage, I have read the papers and I have even trolled through the internet coverage. But, still, I am having trouble believing that Dr Rodney McKay, brilliant scientist but hopeless as a human being, could have been part of an expedition to another galaxy. Not just that, but part of a field unit exploring other worlds. And, if only half the hype can be believed, a hero who has saved countless lives. Not just saved lives from a distance by solving problems scientifically, but actually been in the thick of it, fighting the enemy – and an alien enemy at that. Risked his life for others – Rodney McKay risked his life for his team mates. And the pictures of them make it look like they were really mates. The antisocial physicist was part of a close knit team who risked their lives for each other and to save the galaxy. You can see why I am having difficulty getting my head around it all. Then, just when I was settling down, comes the weirdest piece of information ever. There was a picture of McKay and members of the team in the lab this morning. Johnson was showing off as usual and boasting about having seen Rodney at that farce of Tunney's. I ignored him as best I could until he claimed that one of the women in the photo was with McKay. Yes, 'with' as in 'in a relationship with'. Well, we all craned to see, expecting...well I am not sure what we were expecting, but that was certainly not it. Apparently she is a doctor –a medical doctor- and, according to Johnson, not only pretty hot but also pretty into McKay as well.

I still cannot believe it, Rodney McKay risking his life to save others and protect Earth. Living in the Pegasus galaxy with the hot doctor and a load of team mates. Not quite the unfit, nerdy, antisocial geek I knew.
