But love is blind, and lovers cannot see
The pretty follies that themselves commit.
William Shakespeare
Brittany isn't much of a doodler, but Santana consumes her mind all day, and her obsession spills onto the paper. Santana says they're pretty, but Brittany thinks Santana doesn't like them. She doesn't know why. But, yes, she does. She doesn't like them because Santana is straight. Or so she likes to tell herself.
Santana doesn't like Brittany like that. Absolutely, positively, not. Santana is straight. Santana likes to sleep with guys. That's what she tells herself every day. Brittany is a friend. Brittany is... Brittany is a friend with benefits. Sex is not dating. That's right. Santana was right.
Brittany loves silly things like love songs and looking at the clouds. Santana doesn't. But she sits through it anyway, because she likes B's innocence. She sings Brittany to sleep, and she smiles, they both smile. They stare at the polluted sky together, and Brittany laughs and points. Brittany doesn't just love love, she loves Santana.
Santana thinks Brittany is amusing. She laughs when Brittany laughs, and sometimes she cries when Brittany cries. Because she can't stand to see the tears fall. She catches them in her hand, and then she laughs. Because it's so surreal. Santana is not falling for a girl. That would be impossible. But the kisses beg to differ.
Brittany is falling head first for her forever friend. And she's loving every minute of it. She loves the cliches and she loves everything about Santana from her gentle curves to her soft streak in which Santana loves all the petty things she fantasises about. Love is not a term to be used lightly, and love is what she feels.
Santana accepts it begrudgingly. Maybe things will work out. Brittany is not the kind of girl to give up on promises, and when she gives Santana the ring pop, it's too much. Because they are both girls. Santana told herself she didn't like girls. Maybe it was time to rethink that.
