No Wishes Necessary

by Swellison

Jim entered the loft, spotting Sandburg on the living room couch. He was extracting an object from a cardboard box, the floor strewn with packaging materials. "Chief. What's that?"

"Naomi sent it from Riyadh. It's an ancient lamp, supposedly pre-1100's." Sandburg held the lamp, carefully rubbing it to expose the markings on its base.

"Making a wish?" Jim teased.

"No need to, I've got everything I need."

"You don't want more Sentinels to study?"

"A world populated with more Sentinels would be great." Blair turned towards Jim, suddenly serious. "But as for Sentinels and Guides, I've learned one-on-one works best."

A/N: Big apologies for not including a summary when I posted this. I thought more SPN fans were familiar with TS (The Sentinel).

For Supernatural fans: IMO The Sentinel was the last great TV partnership show before SPN. It aired on UPN 1996-1999. From the second season opening credits: "In the jungles of Peru the fight for survival heightened his senses. Now, Detective James Ellison is a sentinel in the fight for justice. Seeing before others see. Sensing what others can't. An ever-vigilant watchman in the war against crime." Blair Sandburg is graduate fellow and anthropologist whose specialty is ancient Sentinels. When he discovers that Jim Ellison is a modern-day Sentinel with all five hyperactive senses, they form an unlikely partnership that evolves into a solid friendship. Naomi is Blair's globe-trotting, free-spirited/flower child mother, who is a recurring character on the show.

For Sentinel fans: The E/O Drabble Challenge is a weekly Supernatural writing event. Since FF has not allowed the proper posting of Supernatural stories for the last week plus, the challenge this week was to write a drabble in another fandom. I returned to my Sentinel roots for my drabble. My other Sentinel stories are posted at Mackie's Idol Pursuits under Swellison.
